These guys are great! We moved into a 65 year old house with two fireplaces that hadn't seen a fire in 20+ years. We had no idea if they worked or not so we called Royal Chimney Sweeps. They showed up on time, explained everything they were going to do, how much everything would cost and how long it would take - there were no surprises. They even offered to replace the rusted out water heater vent on the roof. They have to come back because one chimney needs extensive repair (which we kinda figured) but Armond explained the pricing and the labor involved to fix it and it seemed more than fair. We recently moved into a townhouse in Pasadena with a wood burning fireplace. And in an abundance of safety wanted to have the chimney cleaned before we used it for the first time. They came out, were extremely professional, laid out all of their tools on special blankets on the living room floor so as not to scratch the wood. The whole process took about an hour. I read all the great reviews and hoped this would work for me, too. I called a little less than two weeks ago and left a voicemail message. Armand returned our call in a timely manner, took my address, and made an appointment. I wrote the date and time in my calendar. I waited 3 hours after the appointed time. Called Armand to see what happened. He said he had no appointment written down and did not service my city, which is right in the middle of the map on yelp. I am disappointed that I have waited two weeks to be told he didn't remember the appointment. My suggestion is to call him the day after making the appointment to make sure he wrote it down. read more

Armand and his colleague came to my house to fix my log lighter. I tried for hours to install a new one and just couldn't get it right. They came to my house on time and did such a professional job of getting it installed. Came out and finished the job in an hour. Also gave us many tips on using our fireplace properly, which was very useful. There is a standard $250 fee for apartments/condo, so be prepared for the higher fee. They showed up right on the time they said they would on a Saturday morning. We haven't had the chimney swept for a very long time so I was expecting a 'cartoon like' black dust cloud to appear but it would be worth the piece of mind knowing it would be clean and no fire hazard. But no!! They kept it super clean! Clearly had the chimney cleaning process under control knew what he was doing. Before leaving we got advice on how to start and manage the fire to avoid smoke in the house. Armon and his associate were fantastic! My fireplace has not been used since the dawn of time. I think Armon even found a fossil somewhere in there... So, what did Armon and his associate do? They fixed my cracked chimney (they showed me proof with pictures); installed a 'custom' gas lighter to fit beneath the new grate I already purchased (I was afraid I might blow up the house with the lighter, but it's just like having a 'fireplace stove'); installed a chimney cap; fixed the flue handle in my chimney, cleaned out the whole chimney, and, best of all, cleaned up after themselves. Armon even had me add up the fees to make sure everything was accurate. He's honest, conscientious, and does solid work. So give him a call already!! And, remember, this is the busiest time of year for these guys, so give them a chance to get back to you if you leave them a message. They're often on call and work all day. Royal was the first company I called for chimney sweep and fireplace burner kit installation and going forward, they will be my go-to guys for chimney service. Armand and Harry arrived promptly and initially inspected the condition of my fireplace and chimney. They clearly communicated the work that was required to achieve a functional fireplace. All details were explained very well and I was given an invoice that consisted of labor and materials breakdown. Their quote was very reasonable. Our roofing is a high pitched gable so extra safety and effort was needed to perform the sweep and install cap and damper. Harry carried it out and I am impressed with the results. It turned out that the fireplace gas line was not connected to the natural gas source. They fixed that and replaced the gas valve floor plate and key. They even installed a safety shutoff valve and access panel behind the chimney inside the garage in order to simplify servicing in the future. They installed a vented gas log set in my fireplace and it looks outstanding. Royal C.S. are professional, know their craft well, give attention to detail and do quality and clean work. Since us LA people can't handle when the temperature drops below 70 degrees, my fireplace has been in constant use for the past month or so. What a pleasure it is to give Armand and Danny five stars. When we spoke on the phone, I warned Armand that my situation was dire,that I didn't know what to do next and all solutions were on the table. Upon arrival he sent Danny onto the roof to take pictures of the crown and came inside and with hands on hips took a look at the chaos and disarray that was my gas fireplace. After a thoughtful pause he said, "The person who installed this really didn't know what they were doing. I can fix it, I'll make it look nice and I smell gas." Explaining what needed to happen, he provided me a written estimate then left to get materials. In the course of the repair, he found the the unsuitable assemblage of the gas log kit components, a number of risky short cuts that had been taken by the original installer, and the gas leak! He fixed the leak, installed the components needed to make the start up easier so now there is no more big WHOOSH!!! and made the fireplace sparkle with embers and glass. So a flagstone fireplace I was getting ready to paint white is getting a second chance. read more

I've lived in my apartment for about 17 years and used the fireplace regularly but as far as I know, it's never been professionally cleaned. I deluded myself into believing that burning those creosote removing logs once a season would do it! Finally, the last two times I lit a fire, smoke was coming inside and set off the carbon monitors, so I thought something may have been stuck inside. I asked everyone I knew with a fireplace and my friend said they had used Royal, and while other chimney specialists had told them it would cost $10G to fix a crack in her fireplace box, Armin of Royal Sweeps told them of a cement for lthat would be good enough to use the fireplace and it worked. So Royal sounded reputable. Armin had to google the satellite view of my place before he committed because he said they have a standard $250 for condos, townhomes and apartments, but my semi-detached 50's cottage was single story and the fireplace is a foot from the driveway, so access isn't a problem. Even though he was busy and I was trying to squeeze them in last minute, he agreed to come the next day. He was even a bit early for his own appt. window. Armin was really nice. He and his assistant inspected and cleaned the chimney quickly with no mess. They were extremely efficient, quick, and totally reasonable. Armin also understood about my indoor cats (no open doors), which I appreciated. He made suggestions about using the gas to heat up the fireplace box prior to lighting the logs and discouraged my Duraflame habit. I dislike gas and don't use it. Besides, some previous shoddy workers hired by the landlord had globbed the gas key hole with glue way deep inside, and the key wouldn't fit, as I explained. Armin cleaned out the glue, realized the earlier workers used the wrong size key and swapped my key for the right size for free. Now I have gas too! My chimney cap had disappeared when the building was painted some months before, which is a real problem with the rains we'd been having, and Armin recommended a new cap. I had time to google the average price on that vs. what he was asking, and since he had one in the truck to fit and he wasn't asking a big markup, I had him istall it. Everything was done is about an hour. The total, with cleaning, was just over $200, but he also gave me an estimate on further critical work needed to avoid further water damage: flashing and chunks of brickwork were missing, as was a big piece of the chimney crown. His estimate was acceptable to my landlords, who asked me to hire Royal to do the remainder of the work. read more

They did the appointment on the weekend, and they worked around my schedule. Armand was the sweep and he was professional and efficient. It was great.
