Fireplace: Majestic Jade 42 in direct vent gas This year using the remote, the fireplace wouldn't turn on the vent system and fireplace. Called several companies who said they would not service and found one who charged me $250 to diagnosis the problem and said I needed a new control module and wanted to charge me $2200 with no guarantees that would solve the problem. I was like dude.. the fireplace itself is $3000... why am I not getting a brand new fireplace then... I asked them to itemize the estimate ... no response. So I called up Harry at Royal Fireplace the day after Thanksgiving and he immediately referred me to Juan. Juan came over the next day and he immediately diagnosed the problem as a faulty remote. He had a new one with him and used it to continue to troubleshoot and make sure the fireplace and venting system were working properly. He checked the wiring, the venting to the outside and the venting system under the house. He cleaned everything. And all that was $450 including the new remote. Highly recommend!! read more

My contractor bought an outdoor gas fireplace through this company. The fireplace failed within 2 years, which isn't the reason for the poor review. I tried calling this company to find someone who could service the fireplace, figure out why it wasn't working and fix. They gave me some other guy's number, who won't pick up or return any calls or voicemails. They say they have no other service technician that they work with. For a company where we spent several thousands of dollars on a gas fireplace box with, the customer service was abysmal. No intent to help or support getting the unit serviced. If you are a homeowner, I would recommend steering clear of this company. If you are a contractor, on behalf of your clients, I would recommend not working with this company. read more

We visited Royal Fireplace based on the reviews in Yelp and were not disappointed. We wanted to convert to a gas fireplace and Harry was very helpful with suggestions without being pushy. We purchased the system with remote and a mantel. We chose the following weekend for installation. The day of installation Armik arrived on schedule. He cleaned the firebox, installed the gas unit while taking time to thoroughly explain lighting the unit and using the remote. He then install the new mantel. When you go to purchase they are very nice and helpful. He stated someone would come out and measure. I had measurements and photos. They of course ask for a deposit. Then it doesn't take two weeks, they don't call. You have to call to get a delivery date, though they said they would call in two weeks. They called 30 minutes before coming to install. It doesn't fit well. Installer becomes impatient, he says no one is going to check the fireplace screen that closely. They called me to collect the rest of the money, I told him I wasn't happy with the fireplace screen. Paying over $1000 for a screen that doesn't fit well, it's ridiculous. But of course he didn't offer to fix it. He just wanted the money. Paid him, would never recommend this place. read more

Great Service, Great Prices! We went to Royal Fireplace yesterday and met Harry, the owner. He was very knowledgeable, kind, and caring, while he helped us choose the right log set for our fireplace. We had been to a few other places, and were told that the installation would take 1-4 weeks, so when Harry said he could send his brother-in-law Armik to install it the next day we bought the chosen set immediatly. Armik came this morning to install the set, and he was wonderful. He has been doing this for over 20 years, so in less than an hour we had our beautiful new fireplace set working and warming our family room. They're not licensed or insured for rooftop work so they can't actually inspect your chimney cap or perform exterior repairs even though they'll tell you on the phone they can. Basically, they can paint your fireplace black again or hardsell you new ceramic logs. And they want you to pay a fee to come out and tell you that. Complete clowns. read more

Unbelievable unprofessional service by Mike. I was charged $4500 for the fireplace and during installation Mike failed to cover the area with plastic sheeting and got black paint all over the stone fireplace and on our brand new floor. He told me to clean it up with soap and water myself(!). It won't come off and now the floor and stone fireplace are stained. Also refused to install the valve covers on the floor as agreed in the scope of work. Mike also made us carry all the logs and equipment downstairs which he should have done himself. Mike charged me $50 cash for a couple of gas valve keys which are only a few dollars at Home Depot. To add insult to injury the pilot stopped working after less than two weeks and our contractor spent half a day trying to re-light it. Mike finally agreed after an hour on the phone that something is wrong with it. So the fancy fireplace is now completely unusable. Mikes response was "it's not my fault....". It is his fault. Stunning incompetence and sloppiness followed by childish excuses. Avoid Royal Fireplace in Pasadena like the plague unless you want to get ripped off and have your house destroyed. When I walked in I was delighted to discover they had the part I was looking for, a 12 inch Blue Flame Gas Valve Key. The prior two hardware stores I visited only had 8 inch and my current key was broken. I showed it to the fellow behind the counter and smiled when he showed me he had the replacement. He told me it was $30. I told him that seemed like a lot, but he said that was the price so I paid it, otherwise our fireplace wouldn't work. When I later searched the item online, I saw it as low as $10 and as high as $16. I don't mind a neighborhood boutique taking a bit more margin for convenience - that's why I support small local shops - but 3x the low and 2x the high price isn't a great way to win a customer. I guess he could tell I was a fish out of water for the moment. Instead of making me a customer for life by solving my problem, he got this review. I hope the extra margin was worth it. read more

THE BAD: Low quality subcontractor work (3,000 dollars and over 2 months left us with a sub standard tile job, a hastily installed mantel, broken hardwood floors and busted plaster walls) I did ask Harry for 500 dollars off the bill for the damage, to which he did comply. We first stopped in to buy a chimney cap to keep the rain out and purchased one for a reasonable price. The salesman showed me how to install it. While we were there we looked around the shop and noticed the gas log sets. One display was burning and it really looked real and felt warm. I've never been a fan of gas logs but this one looked very realistic. A few months later on a rainy day with no dry firewood we went back to look at the gas log displays. The salesman was helpful and we showed him a photo of our fireplace and he looked at the measurements and showed us which ones would fit. We had a discount card we received in the mail which he honored. We made our purchase and the owner said he have it installed by tonight! The installer came over a few hours later, in the rain, and an hour later we were sitting by our new warm gas log fire. No more wet firewood, smoke, sparks. However, I was extremely disappointed because we had agreed they would clean out the fireplace before installation as it was filthy with construction dust. I made it clear to Harry that I was very concerned about toxic dust and showed him photos to indicate how dirty it was. But when his brother-in-law arrived to do the work he knew nothing about a need for cleaning and asked to borrow my vacuum! Uh, NO. Bad Repair Experience! 3 yrs ago these guys got my gas logs working again ... but it felt awkward because the family was arguing about whether to repair or replace the part. Eventually they got it fixed. Fast forward 3 years: My pilot light suddenly died recently and I phoned SoCal Gas Co. He said "need new thermocouple". OK, so I called Royal again and they eagerly came out and reached the same conclusion. Armik left saying they would order the part and get back to me. A week and a half later I phoned to see where things were, and Harry now says he can't get the part, but refers me to the distributer. I talk to the distributer -- who was very helpful about educating me on gas log fireplaces -- and he said the part IS available, so I go back to Harry thinking there was some confusion. My Friday message was ignored, but I caught him on Monday and he basically admitted they did not "want" to fix it. Wow. Telling me that 2 weeks earlier would have saved a lot of MY time and energy. Again, I come away feeling that they are very unprofessional regarding repairs. This was the nutshell story, all the minor irritation along the way would be to much to report. The distributor has referred me to another resource, so I'm hoping for better luck. What Harry doesn't know, is I am actually considering replacing the unit. Came here to get some wood logs for my fireplace. I also asked harry the owner if he can install fireplace glass doors on my two fireplaces. He told me he would come on sunday to measure. So Sunday comes and I waited for a few hours from the time he told me he would come. I tried calling on sunday and he does not answer the phone. I called again on monday and finally he anwers the phone. Asked him what happen and he said he forgot. Then I asked him if there is another time he could come and he told me he would call me and that was back in November. I still have not received a phone call from him. never knew there were stores dedicated to fireplaces... that is until we needed to babyproof the house and finally decided to get a door for our fireplace - nobody wants a baby-que!! i knew our opening was not a standard size so did a little online research. there wasnt much and i had too many questions, so i gave royal fireplace a visit. harry was really helpful and gave us several options. his prices were way better than what i found online for custom doors. he personally did all the measurements. it took a few weeks to come in, but it was worth it. i asked him why the fireplace wasnt emitting much heat - turns out it was just a wood starter burner, not an actual gas fireplace burner, so had him swap that out too. now it looks great and actually provides warmth! read more
