Wow! This was my first time experiencing authentic dim sum and it was amazing. When you first walk in, you notice the beautiful decor with high ceilings filled with sculpted chandeliers. Staff is very friendly and helpful if you have any questions. There is a lot of seating so this is great for small and large crowds. It can be a little overwhelming with how fast staff comes around with carts of food choices but man everything I had was delicious. My eyes were bigger than my stomach! My family always makes a point to come here when visiting Atlanta. They have dim sum as well as larger dishes you can order off their menu. I love their beef chow fun and their vegetables with lotus root. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous and feels very banquet-esque, with super high ceilings and elaborate chandeliers. A true Dim Sum experience from beginning to end. You can order off the menu or from the carts. We did both. The carts were rolling throughout our entire meal. We got some of the dim sum staple: a Pot of hot Jasmine Tea, Taro Dumplings, Shrimp and Chive Dumplings, Shumai, Pork Spareribs, BBQ Pork Buns, Chicken Feet, Clams, Egg Drop Soup, Fried Dumplings and Mochi!! It is a pretty space with all of the basics for Dim Sum. That said, it is pricey by most any standards. My go to in Chicago Triple Crown is for sure cheaper than this place. Jing Fong in NYC is likely at a similar price point as this place, but it has seemingly far more variety, and perhaps even fresher product. I know there are fancy chandeliers here and there is cost for that, but its not my priority as a dim sum customer. Over the past 15 years in ATL the two places that I have LOVED the dim sum was the original Royal China with the dilapidated parking lot on Chamblee Dunwoody Road, and I believe the name was Golden House in Duluth. Both of which were very high quality at reasonable prices. I mean I have been to Tin Lung Heen 3 times in HK for Michelin level 102nd floor dim sum, and there I totally enjoy a long meal of decadence. In the US my focus is more on the food. The new and improved Royal China does not fit that bill. read more

This is the spot for dim sum on the weekends. Even on the weekends when the tables are full, the restaurants runs efficiently, with little steamer carts darting back and forth , from table to table, filling tables with fresh dim sum. The dining space is cavernous, and tables are generously spaced apart, and the high ceilings seems to take all the stress away from a dining in a very crowded restaurant. You see all the people, but you just don't feel them over your shoulders. Its nice feeling, to take in the frenzy, but still feel far away. The service is great. This is a well run operation. They turn tables and handle the diner traffic like a italian opera house. After registration, and when your number is up, a host will magically appear and guide you to your table. And within seconds, your waiter will magically appear, with menus and take your drink order. The handover from host to waiter is silent and seamless. Once your tea order is confirmed, the carts will circle your table. Make eye contact, and they'll zip over like an F1 pit stop. The talking is kept to a minimum.,.. summon the cart with a head nod, point to a dish to pick from the cart, scissor fingers to signal to cut the dim sum, and if you been in enough tea houses, you'll know to prop open the tea pot's lid when you want a tea refill. In dim sum houses, there are no published prices on the cart. Every dish is coded, S, M, or L. Prices range from 5 - 7ish. Nobody really cares about the prices, or the code. Folks are more concerned with finding their favorite and the new/novel dim sum. The dim sum is fresh. They feature all the favorites, and their har gow, and siew mai, is the best in ATL. The best thing about dim sum is exploring new things. See that new dish on the cart... well.. get it. Its 3 pieces, if you don;t like it.. its not a big loss. So explore, get a thing or 2... try it.. be delighted with the new flavors. At my table... the conversation around new items is simple.... What is it?.... I don't know.... Let's get it... Came here today for Dim Sum. Walked in at noon. Was wondering why everyone is wearing winter jackets. I sat down and it was actually freezing. The food we ordered was cold. It might be hot from the kitchen but by the time it gets to the dining area, it's cold. The only thing hot was the tea. And egg tart which was good because that just exited the oven. We ordered $181 worth of dim sum and curry noodles with pork and shrimp. Pork is hella dry. And a few shrimp. Missing red bell peppers and Sprouts. I have been to this place several times since its opening, it's the signature dim sum place in Atlanta. There are plenty space for parking, dining room is huge with beautiful chandeliers. We came for brunch, we were seated with first batch of crowds. Table service was courteous. As usual we started with chrysanthemum tea with sugar aside, then the carts started coming over. We picked : clams, beef offal stew, clams, beef tripe, chicken feet, beef ribs, fried shrimp balls, etc., we ordered dry fried beef rice noodles as filler. All dishes were delicious, the food quality was good and consistent. The only difference I noticed at the end is price hike, usually we had average $20/person including tips in this place, now it's over $30/person, of course we could have less dishes as we wanted, but we want to satisfy our stomach as priority. Although I've been to Royal China for dim sum, and I know that's what they're most known for dining in, my review won't be based on the dim sum. I think their dim sum is comparable to any other dim sum place in Georgia. Nothing special. They're really all the same. However, as a wedding venue, this is the best it gets in Georgia for a big Asian style wedding. I had no doubt in my mind that Royal China was where I wanted to book for my reception. I didn't even consider other places. The food (which is also just as good if you come here for dinner) can't be beat. Their only other real competition is Happy Valley. I've been told their food can be a hit or miss though; however, in the past year, I've been to Royal China 7 times for weddings, and only 1 of the times, I was disappointed with the food and confused what went wrong. Following that visit, I booked my dinner tasting for my reception, and I mentioned that the last visit, the food was very disappointing. They made sure to include extra dishes for me to try even though those dishes wouldn't be served for my wedding. I was impressed by every single dish that night. And on my wedding, the food was just as good, and actually the best I've ever had at Royal China- this opinion was widespread among my guest as well. In addition, once you plan a wedding through here, they'll remember you forever. I'm always recognized right away when I come back to Royal China, even for other people's weddings. There were some hiccups along the way while I was planning my wedding, and the manager made sure to make up for it in every way possible- including a complimentary dinner for myself and my family and excluding certain fees for us on our reception bill. My favorite personal dish here is the fried chilean sea bass. If cooked properly, you won't want to waste a single bite of it. Somehow, there's the perfect among of crunchy from the fried outside skin, but once you bite into the inside, the fish is soft and juicy. Be sure to also dip the fish in the sauce it comes with or drizzle the sauce over your rice. It has such amazing flavor. Their soft shelled crab is another one of my favorites. It looks very questionable if you've never had soft shelled crab before, but it actually is very soft and easy to eat. I like to dip it in the chili oil. Every part of it is edible. Other dishes include a seafood shrimp and scallop with birds nest, fried shrimp/crab claws, lobster claws, filet mignon, fried rice, soup, and a papaya salad, and more. All these dishes are also offered for normal dinner service. I do think a little bit more food could be offered per dish, but I think the portion size is actually pretty routine among other restaurants. Royal China likely is the priciest you'll find area this area, but you're definitely paying for quality here. Not to mention, the restaurant itself is beautiful, clean, and spacious. You wouldn't guess it from the outside, but just wait until you come inside. Plus, parking is ample. read more

Atlanta does not have a good dim sum place but Royal China is actually one of the better ones. Royal China used to located in Doraville and although the place looked ran down, I miss the it being so much closer than Duluth. The new location is next to Costco on Duluth on exit 103. My husband and friend were craving dim sum so we decided to make the visit out. From the outside, it looked empty behind the tinted doors but once you go in, there were masses of people waiting. We got our wait number from the hostess but she couldn't tell us how long the wait was so we counted the number of group in front of us and went to grab a snack for an hour and came back and they had still not called us. Once seated, it was little past 2PM and their dim sum ends at 3PM. We were waiting for 20 minutes and no server came up to us and there were no dim sum carts around. As soon as one came out, we had to hunt them down but they were going to the bigger groups first and once they got to us, there was little to none left. When we finally had a chance to talk to a server, we asked for a dimsum menu so that we can to get specific ones since they seemed to be not doing the carts but they told us that there was not a dimsum menu. We literally had ONE dimsum tray between the 3 of us for the longest time and was about to leave like the table next to us until this nice little lady was so nice enough to tell us that she would put in the order for the items that she was holding for the other table. In the end, we did end up content on food but the experience was horrid. Why open a grand new place if you cannot maintain the cleanliness. Other than the chandeliers, the floor, bathroom, cloths on table and chairs were already looking like the location in Doraville when they had it and this was only open for couple years, not to mention it was closed for the most part during Covid. Management needs better organization such as waiting system where they at least display the number somewhere so people know which number is being called or call back system to your phone number. Also, a dimsum menu so that people are not leaving upset. If your dim sum hours are up to 3PM, at least have full carts go around or allow for tables to order the specific dimsums. As for the food, I do think the dimsum menu expanded just by what we were able to grab and the quality of the food was better but I don't know if I have enough time or patience for another experience like this. read more

Came here for the Sunday dimsum brunch with the fam. The parking lot is big and shared by multiple businesses. We arrived around 12:30 pm and the parking lot was almost full. The hostess won't seat you unless your entire party is present. Although they were busy, our party of 4.5 were greeted and seated right away. Like most Yelpers have already mentioned, the space is beautiful! The chandeliers are stunning and the dining room is massive. Great for events. The carts started coming as soon as we sat down. We had the classics: siumai pork dumplings, BBQ pork buns, har gow, chicken feet, sticky rice and more! We also tried some others we've never had before. I was really looking forward to eating hā chéung (rice noodle rolls with shrimp), but they only had the beef. Har gow (shrimp dumpling) is one of my favorite dim sum dishes and we only got to order one container before they ran out for a while. We were almost done with brunch by the time they came out with more. Nonetheless, the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. An escalation happened between another party which rattled everyone and injured one child. The staff was quick to respond. Once we sat down, we immediately were served with multiple carts stopping by. The tea was great, and they were pretty quick to refill. They had all the classics: har gow, siu mai, rice rolls, tofu skin rolls, hot oil. It was great. They also had the sweet silken tofu in ginger syrup, which was light, hot, and sweet (but never cloying). I've had dim sum before but never like this. First you walk into a huge convention hall style seating. The inside was very unique with very nice decor hanging from the ceiling. Food was great. I've had dim sum before but does not compare to Royal China. Food was very fresh and well seasoned. A large variety of options were carted around to try and really liked them all. The egg tart was amazing; warm, fresh, and perfect flaky crust. We also ordered from the menu and had the lobster which was cooked with green onions, shaved ginger, and whole garlic. This is the best dim-sum restaurant I have been to in the Atlanta metro. You know it's legit when you walk in and it is a banquet hall with incredibly high ceilings. And when the carts are rolling around, and other patrons are loudly conversing while eating good food. I went here twice with my ex boyfriend and made him a fan, haha. As someone who lived in China for 12 years, it is very hard to please my palate in terms of Chinese cuisine. Going to dim-sum fulfills an occasional craving, and Royal China is the best place for that. I would recommend going early to avoid waiting. I never tried a dish I did not like here. I used to go to their location in chamblee but this was my first time trying the new location The eggplant garlic sauce was good but it was super sweet, not much garlic flavor and way too much oil in the sauce. You definitely need to eat this with rice and maybe a tums Dim sum was mostly good especially the shrimp rice noodle. They don't put fried onions on it anymore or at least not by default but I liked it better without anyway We got some chive and shrimp dumplings which were excellent. The hao gao is great too. Dumplings are a normal size, filling has visible meat in it. My favorite was the shrimp and chive and then hao gao. The shumai was ok today... Something in it had a weird crunchy texture. We tried custard buns today and those were good, not too sweet but enough filling inside My mom got the congee and it came with some toppings but not very much seasoning so she had to add soy sauce for flavor Large dim sum is ~$8.25/ea and I'm not sure what counts as large but basically we ordered Pork bun Custard bun Shrimp noodle Hao gao Tea x2 Congee Eggplant garlic sauce Shu mai Shrimp and chive Black Sesame ball Pork dumpling (I'm not sure what it was ) We ate 3/4 of the dumplings & 1 of each bun & have most of the eggplant left ~$80 before tip and Id say we ordered enough for 3 because the leftovers will be my husband's dinner... The restaurant was busy but not overly so, even then, the service was a bit spotty and inattentive. There was some inconsistency to the food, such as the egg custard tarts which were way too greasy. Royal China is a very fancy dim sum place and its price reflects it, but if you're craving dim sum, this is one of the places in Atlanta area to be. It's the type that wheels food around for you in carts so you can pick and choose what you'd like to eat. When you're done eating, go up to the front to pay. There is plentiful free parking in the lot as it's shared with a lot of other stores, but don't expect a close spot. You'll want to walk all the way to the front waitress and get a number to be called. For my party of 2, we were given a 40 minute wait. There was seating to wait around or you can stand outside. We waited only 10 minutes before we were called to our table. Our server initially was very slow getting our water and tea. A table sat after us got their water and hot tea before we did and had to flag down someone else. The food quality here was great and all the food was hot! We ordered so much between us and all of it was great. Only thing I didn't care for was the tripe as it was way too gingery with no other flavor. Some of what we ordered: - Shrimp Rice Rolls - Pork Rice Rolls - Char Siu - Shumai - Fish Curry Balls - Curry Squid - Some type of veggie - Tripe - Pork Hock For our small table, the servers didn't come by to clear our table hardly at all so we didn't have much room and stacked as much as we could. Snow pea leaves had that fiery flavor too, which is awesome. The most dishes are priced to ratio for them to pay off the beautiful chandeliers and jade wall decos. On the other note, the dim sum offered is, generic and nothing worthy of sending that telegram. Just a fancier setting a group may enjoy. Uno star minus for pretty crappy steamed rice quality - the to-goed rice got pretty funky with feet smell a day later.
