My husband ordered Mongolian beef and gave it 8 out of 10. I think the only drawback is that it can be loud in there because of all the hard surfaces, and the high ceilings. (4/26/25 Update): I came here with my family who had a party room reserved for a birthday party. The room was nicely decorated and had a private bathrrom. There was big screen tv and karaoke setup. That was about it for the positives. Most of us showed up around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. The parking lot was pretty empty in front of Canton House. I looked over into the parking lot of Gohan Buffet and it was super packed vs Canton. We got the Family Dinner ($600) which feeds up to 10 people. We got 2 of them because we had around 20 people. The dinner comes with 10 dishes. 1. FISH MAW CRAB MEAT SEAFOOD SOUP 2. HONG KONG STYLE TWIN LIVE LOBSTERS 3. FOUR SEASONS APPETIZER PLATTER 4. WALNUT SHRIMP WITH FRESH FRUIT 5. The walnut shrimp dish tasted like the honey shrimp from the low budget Chinese buffets. Dungeness crab was nicely decorated but didn't taste good. Peking duck wasn't bad but the portion was too small. It didn't help people in my party was grabbing big portions and being selfish. The sea bass was very good and I loved the crunchy ness to it. The snow peas dish was not very desirable as I had no clue what was inside. The fried rice was garbage as I tasted better fried rice from Panda Express. It had tiny shrimp bits like from low budget shrimp pieces from Krogers. Let's get to the table service part. One of the females had a real nasty attitude and didn't seem like they were too happy to be here. We finished eating and ate our cake. We wanted to have alittle fun with the karaoke but apparently the staff members kept coming in to "check" on us every 5 minutes. They weren't there to check on us as it felt like they were trying to rush us out so they can clean up. One employee even had the nerve to say, isn't it getting dark out? I was highly insulted by this. Affer spending approximately over $1700 at Canton House, I expected alittle more nicer hospitality. And from looking at their regular dining area, which maybe had only 4-5 tables with customers seat. They can use our business as the food here sucks. We arrived around 11am on a Sunday with cart dim sum service on our minds. Plenty of parking and this venue is huge. Very banquet hall vibe that serves as a restaurant... Staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to ensure that our pescatarian selections found us. Very clean, bright, and plenty of large parties there. Dim sum was good if not finessed with care. Shrimp and chive dumplings were more like blintzes than crafted dumplings. Tasty never the less. Menu is easy to decipher with pricing associated with letters next to the items. Fried whole eggplant was large and tasty. Shrimp shu mai were ok, shrimp and chive were my favorites. The "donut" dumpling was not to our liking, tasteless crunchy cardboard. It was removed from the bill without issues. Egg custard was a first and we enjoyed the slightly sweet treat. I had so much high expectations for Canton House. We went here for dinner. They also offered dimsum at all hours but it takes bit longer to make. We ordered family style dinner including steamed sea bass, peking duck 2 courses, wonton soup, salt egg yolk shrimp, salted egg yolk spare ribs, yeah we love salted egg yolk stuff haha, and snow pea with crabmeats, panfried noodles, and stir fry steak in red wine sauce. Everything was salty except the steamed sea bass and the duck. I have no idea what the chef was smoking. My first real dim sum experience in Atlanta, and had a great meal. Newly built, I picked it out of the few choices because it looked super clean, and it was. Beautiful decor, easily can hold a nice wedding reception. The food was delicious. Mainly shrimp dishes, all of them good. Regular har gao, the bigger ones on flat sheets I don't know the name, shrimp and chives dumplings, all delicious. Strangely missing from their carts was shu Mai. I was too pull to special order it. We did special order the chicken chow fun (hit!) And taro buns (not a hit). I don't like that they charge you per person for hot tea even if only one person drinks it, and when the bill came the Chinese broccoli turned out to be 9.95, more than any of the dumpling dishes. For broccoli and sauce. Head scratch. I would come again, order the shu Mai, and skip the broccoli and tea, and would be a happy diner. read more

It's pretty busy, and I'm not sure if it's because of the holiday season or if they get this much business normally for their dim sum. It's a big space that fits many people, so it's good for families. They even have private rooms if that's preferable for bigger groups. We were a group of 7, and someone had arrived earlier to start our wait for a table. By the time we were seated, we were asked and served tea pretty quickly and could start ordering food. For the most part, we did get food from the carts and only ordered a beef chow fun, which was pretty good though heavy on the onion for some. The dim sum was ok. Steamed items like ha gao and siu mai were as expected. It would be strange, and bad, if they messed up on either of them. The lo mai fan (sticky rice) and beef tripe were pretty good as well. The chicken feet was bright red and alright in flavor. It was a little sweet, and I would've liked a stronger black bean taste and some spice. From there, the rest of their dim sum offerings that we got weren't great. All their fried items were cold. Makes sense because the carts make their rounds, but we weren't pleased with other items being cold like lo bak go (turnip cake). If you want to try dim sum, it's not a bad experience to have it here, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I may get same or better if I tried somewhere else. Located in Duluth, it offers ample parking. The restaurant is spacious, featuring modern decor that's both stylish and inviting. I was seated quickly since I arrived right when they opened, but the food carts started coming out slowly. We ordered a variety of traditional dishes: shrimp shu mai, shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, shrimp rice rolls, and shrimp paste rolls with crab claw. The shrimp shu mai had a tender wrapper but lacked the flavor punch I expected. The shrimp dumplings were delicate, with good flavor. The chicken feet were cooked well and taste good. The shrimp rice rolls were soft and slightly chewy, but again, they didn't quite reach the level of the original location. Finally, the shrimp paste rolls in crab claw were kinda soft rather than crispy. Overall, the food was just okay. Canton House hosted our group holiday party. Beautiful banquet hall and restaurant with high tech audio visual equipment to make any party extra special. Best of all, Peter snd Kam were so attentive and caring to make sure we had a great experience! Service was on point. The dim sum here is very disappointing. First of all, you can tell this place isn't authentic as very few of the servers speak Mandarin or Cantonese. The dim sum portions are very small, the taste is below par, and the service is very slow. The biggest thing for us is that they tried to overcharge us. Rather than charging us for 5 teas, they charged us for 5 large dim sums, an overcharge of around $25. Also, the overcharged us for the seafood pan fried noodle. Online, the menu says it's $17, but we were charged $19. Highly recommend you stay away from this place. If you want the cart experience, go to East Pearl down the street. If you want the best dim sum, go to great wall supermarket and order from best bbq in the food court. There was nothing redeeming about this place. Short version: Canton House serves good dim sum in Duluth. It's worth visiting. I'd be happy to come back here. That said, I think the dim sum at Royal China is better, but your experience could be different. Long version: This review is for Canton House's second location on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, "Canton House Restaurant & Event Hall." It opened in May 2024. Canton House's original location is on Buford Highway in Chamblee. The business started in 1994. It's family owned and operated. For those unfamiliar, Canton House has been a staple for dim sum and Chinese (Cantonese) food in metro Atlanta for decades. The Buford Highway location has been popular among the local Asian community and beyond for a long time. Canton House is known not only for its food, but also as a wedding/event venue. I went to a wedding reception at Canton House Chamblee in 2014. It was really cramped. Canton House Duluth is completely different. It's a lot bigger and much nicer. They won't have that problem here. Canton House joined Happy Valley and Royal China as Chinese and dim sum restaurants from the Buford Highway area to: (1) open in and/or relocate to Gwinnett County and (2) expand into bigger spaces designed for handling large events. Canton House Duluth is a lot like Royal China in both its large size and grandiose appearance. Think fancy, shiny hotel ballrooms with high ceilings, ornate chandeliers, banquet-style seating (lots of round tables with Lazy Susans), formally-dressed servers, and elegant style and decor. This location has a totally different look and feel than Chamblee, which is more like a traditional Chinese restaurant. During our visit, dim sum prices were as follows: Small plates: $4.75 each Medium plates: $5.75 each Large plates: $6.00, $8.00, or $9.00 each We showed up around 1:30pm on a Sunday and all the push carts were still out. I've observed peak dim sum hours in metro Atlanta to be around 11:00am to 1:00pm on weekends. We stayed until about 3:00pm. By that time, some of the carts had disappeared. However, many items could still be requested. We were seated immediately upon arrival. There was no wait like I'd seen in pictures online. In fact, the huge dining room was over half empty. The atmosphere would've been better if it was busier. We were swarmed with carts and served right away. Good service. Below is a list of what five of us got. The only item we wouldn't get again is the mango stuffed mochi. While the consistency of the mochi was good, the flavor wasn't appetizing. I think the filling was mango puree. On the other hand, the coconut mochi, filled with coconut cream, was quite yummy. Everyone enjoyed the congee. My favorite items were the egg tarts, steamed and baked barbecue pork buns, beef tripe (not the "soup," but the smaller version), pork spare ribs, beef short ribs, and steamed rice noodle rolls with beef. I also liked the egg white and milk pudding. My wife's favorites were the pork pot stickers, turnip cake, and taro dumplings. The beef tripe "soup" was unique and not bad. It was filled with so many different organs that not even the staff could tell me what everything was. The lotus leaf rice and chicken feet, generally two of my favorite dim sum items, were just OK. The lotus leaf rice was too dense and sticky (perhaps it sat out too long) and the chicken feet were a bit on the chewy side. I didn't see douhua -- soft tofu served with sweet ginger syrup. Side note: This shopping center, Pleasant Hill Square, has changed a lot. Gone are big-box stores Staples, JCPenney, Old Navy, Toys"R"Us, and Barnes & Noble. I dined at Canton House on Sunday, November 3, 2024 shortly after they opened. I was impressed by the overall aesthetics and size of the restaurant upon walking through the grandiose lobby area. Everything looked so clean and shiny. There was the large main dining area where I was seated, but there were also smaller private dining rooms available for private events if anyone is looking for a place to host any event (parties, wedding receptions, anniversaries, etc). The lighting however is all white LEDs, which made the restaurant feel like a hospital or school. The dim sum was pretty good. The carts did take a while to come out because I was seated within a couple minutes after opening. But all the staple dim sum dishes that I expected did come out. As far as taste and overall presentation goes, I think they were better than the first location. I would expect the food quality to be better because of how new this restaurant is. The shrimp dumplings and fried shrimp balls were my favorites and tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Everything from the steam cart tasted good. I think the service was nice, but could be more attentive. It took a while for waters to get refilled and to get the check and pay. However, I did appreciate how the hostess spread everyone out across the large dining space so it didn't feel like we were all in one space. Overall, this is such a big improvement to the first Canton House in terms of dim sum quality and dining experience. The dim sum ladies don't circle as efficiently as the other location. You have to come early and be assertive if you want them to come. So you might as well get up and go get them. I came by with my family on a Monday afternoon having low expectations and not expecting cart service thinking we'd have to order by menu because like I said... it was a Monday afternoon. However, we were excited to see upon walking in that they did still have carts going around with dim sum! We were immediately seated at a table with plenty of space for our family. A high chair was promptly set up for my son, and when one of the employees saw me struggling to figure out the straps, he came over and assisted me in addition to giving me a child's plate and utensils without me even having to request it. He also asked if I'd like a child's water cup, which I declined because we already brought a sippy cup. This is not the service I'm typically used to getting dining out with a small toddler. As soon as we sat down, carts were immediately brought to our table, and we had food instantly. Honestly, it was so fast that the food was already on the table while I was figuring out the high chair. They were so attentive to the pace we were eating that every time we were low or out, carts would appear again. They gave us menus as well without us having to ask in case we wanted to order anything extra. I'm guessing because it was a Monday afternoon, what was on the carts was limited. I've never been to this new location before, but my husband had gone with friends the day prior (Sunday brunch- the true time to go for dim sum), and he told me they did have more options then. This was no surprise to me, and I have no complaints though because it's what I expected coming on a Monday afternoon. Whenever there wasn't something on the cart, I'd ask by showing a picture, and they'd tell me they would get it for me. They would cook several and add it to the carts, and before putting those dishes on the cart, they brought it to us personally first and asked how many we'd like of each. I was very impressed with the service and attentiveness. Taste and price are comparable to the other local dim sum places. But for this good of service, I'd likely frequent here as opposed to somewhere else from now on! Awesome banquet dinner. The restaurant is fairly new. Everything was clean bright and looking good. Restrooms were immaculately cleaned now for the food. It was your typical banquet dinner in which we ordered 12 courses so it was two hours of straight eating. We had soup, duck, beef, lobster, vegetables, fried rice, shrimp, calamari, and dessert. Every course was really, really good. The calamari was a little bit below par. The pieces were a bit small and fried a little bit too much. However, the rest of the food was exceptionally good. The stand out is the Peking duck that is just simply awesome. The meat was cooked with preserved veggies, which is not prepared in a way that I've had before before but it worked really well. The flavor so it just simply awesome And was just an explosion in your mouth of flavor. Well done the dessert was quite unique. It was mango pudding with tapioca. What a great way to finish the meal although the banquet took about two hours to eat all the courses. A common problem is running out of space on the lazy susan to put dishes, but the servers were attentive to gradually transferring dishes to smaller plates to make more space. The servers were also super helpful when it came to packing our food to-go. The food itself was decent - coming from Houston my Chinese food standards are just really high, but for what you can find in Atlanta, it is very solid! This is one of my cousins favorite dim sum place. We were there on a Sunday. We were visiting from Los Angeles and our cousins wanted us to try this restaurant. The OG Canton House is on Buford Highway, and when we heard that there was this location, we wanted to check it out. Unbeknownst to us, they were still technically in a soft opening when Mother's Day rolled around. When 10 AM rolled around, there was already a line out the door waiting for them to open. They didn't let anyone in when opening hour came around because it seemed like they didn't have enough workers there yet! After around 10:30 they started letting people in. And it was wild. I think they still have a lot of things to work out before it's running super smoothly. The one thing I noticed where we sat was we were in the middle. The Dim Sum carts went around the room, but never came to the middle! I think it's partially because there wasn't enough space but also I blame how busy it was. I think they forgot about the people in the middle of the dining hall. We had to pretty much flag someone down to place an order of what we wanted. The food was pretty good. I'm not really a dim sum connoisseur, but from what I thought it wasn't bad. I saw some items that was unexpected such as the Thai Tea and bobas rolling around on the carts. I didn't get the chance to try it though because we were forgotten and by that point we were about to leave. I would say to come on a weekday if possible so it's not too busy. I can see that this location is going to be really busy especially with all the parking and how convenient it is to get here. Finally I guess the biggest question is: "Can they compete with Royal China down the street?" At this current point, probably not. TL;DR - Not worth the wait. The interior is grand and well-lit. That's about all the positive I have for this place. The food is on the salty end. You get dishes similar to those of other Dim Sum places. They also serve drinks on a cart, like coffee, soy milk, and Thai tea. We got a Chicken Shu Mai, and it was not well done. Their service is on par with other Dim Sum places. They probably have a lot of kinks they are sorting out since they are newly opened. The OG Canton House on BuHi has been on our dim sum rotation for years now. So when this location finally opened we were excited to try it. We came here on Mother's day weekend for dim sum. They recently opened and it was clear that they were still figuring things out. The line started 15 min before opening and they weren't letting people in until almost 10:30 (30 min past opening). The seats and tables were really close to each other. I was consistently bumped by someone's chair at the adjacent table. The carts barely had space to go through and mainly went around the sides, so we missed a lot of carts (eg milk tea cart, egg tarts cart). Overall, the food was similar to other dim sum experiences in Atlanta. We will try the regular menu next. There is plenty of parking. read more

The soup dumplings were less flavorful as Trader Joe's. All the fried stuff needed the assistance of soy sauce to give some sort of tongue hit. The fried rice was expensive for so little uniqueness. Canton House Chamblee used to be our go to Dim Sum restaurant when in Atlanta. Since we started stopping in Duluth instead, we've been going to Royal China. Canton House Duluth hasn't open yet. We've enjoyed our Dim Sum brunches at RC. We decided to give CHD since we enjoyed the one in Chamblee. Of course we have to compare our experience to RC. We were at the restaurant at 10am like we normally do but unlike at RC, there were no other diners. People didn't start trickling in till almost after 10:30am. We were promptly seated and were served our oolong tea which was delicious. We thought better than RC. We did have to wait for a while before we saw the first cart. Maybe that's why other diners come later. Although slow coming, everything that we had was piping hot which we liked. Service wise, CHD is nowhere at RC's level. At RC, the servers are really quick to remove any empty steam baskets/dishes but at CHD, they weren't as quick. The servers were very friendly when they did come round though. Finally, the bill... we normally have the same items at Dim Sum so we were very surprised that the bill was a good $15 less than RC! I haven't been too many dim sum restaurants but I have been to a few and the dim sum here has always been amazing. I tried some of the dishes off the menu too such as a fried rice and a beef noodle and it was great! Service was great and the music was nice. The food was ok for me. But compare to other places, it's not worth the money. Most of the food are mushy and plain. The chicken feet is usually my favorite but I couldn't finish it and little more salty and oily than other places. The service is really good, all the staffs are nice and welcoming! My family tried Canton House for the first time this weekend. It was referred to me my a friend who knew I wanted traditional Chinese food. Salt and pepper lobster was delicious and not too expensive. My son who is 1.5 years loved the jellyfish. The pan fried noodles were spot on if you want the San Francisco style crispy noodles. The spicy wontons on the appetizer page were like DTF if you enjoy those. Yes, going back for sure. read more

So we decided to come here on Father's Day. The other Dim Sum place was packed! Was a little hesitant because of the reviews and the fact that they just open not too long ago. Glad we came!! Place was nice!! Service from the front to the back was attentive and very friendly. We order a lot of different dim sums everything was hot and delicious! Went today to celebrate Mother's Day. We do know that it's their first week and a lot of things are still settling down, but here are some brief thoughts of how we think about today's meal, and hope they will improve soon! First of all...the food they taste...plain. Salt and pepper calamari doesn't have salt and pepper seasoning on it. The food overall lacks flavor and overcooked even for the dim sum as well. On top of that the waiting time for the food are really long. We waited over an hour for 7 dishes to arrive and at the end, we were told that one of our dishes was sold out and unable to make it. the rice... is heartbreaking to see the rice was overly moist to the point it became mochi and porridge-like. Hope they can fix the issue soon. the good thing is their drinks taste great! Especially the Vietnamese coffee flavor is really strong! They are low on staff right now and heard rumors about people waiting for 3-4 hours just to have lunch here. I'll give it a try again someday when they settle and hope the review will change! read more

We went early on a Saturday and everything was wonderful. So glad we tried this location vs driving all the way to Chamblee. I grew up in Chamblee so I'm usually partial to Buford hwy but this is a great option in Duluth! The place is huge and bright. The service was quick and friendly. Every dim sum dish we had was wonderful. The private dining rooms look so nice for parties. We will be back! read more

Canton house is huge and quite visually appealing. I was there for a birthday event from start to finish. Everything we ate was pretty average to subpar. Anything fried was cold and not even close to being crispy. Service was amazing. From the attention to details setting the tables up, bringing things out promptly, and overall interactions. Ice bucket made water marks? Wiped up immediately. Kids playing and making an escape, they watched and smiled. The space was spacious enough for the event without being crowded or feeling so empty. Be careful of your belonging though, because even though the event was still happening and more than half of the guest still present, they ended up throwing my clothing away that I had on the seat. I'd hope they'd clean what was needed and left it on the empty table or on the side just in case but no. read more

Lovely ambience, absolutely wonderful staff members, and seriously delicious Korean food. The lady who was repairing our food at the table continuously included my daughter in conversations about her singing career and relocating into Atlanta. My daughter wants to go back simply because she made my daughter feel included. The food was delicious, drinks were fantastic and we definitely plan on coming back. read more

Normally I always give high rating to the places I went. I was having breakfast on Sunday. The tables are so close and there is not enough space. The service was not satisfactory and ding sum are hot tasty, maybe from frozen stuff. I would not recommend this place for weekend breakfast. read more

First time here at canton house. I came here Sunday afternoon with some friends about 1:25 pm. We were seated quick by the hostess then a few carts came by and we picked a few items. Nobody came to take our drink orders, we asked a waitress that was walking by if can get some water for everyone, she said ok. 10 mins passed still no water. We tried to flag down another waiter and he looked at us and walked away. Another man who I think was the manager came and took out drink orders and promised us that our drinks and hot tea will come out at the same time. 5 mins go by and we received the tea. It's about 1:45 now and still no water. We had about 6 items on the table that we picked a little while ago, the same dessert cart came by 3 times nothing else. It's 2:00 pm Now and still no water. I ate one piece of chicken feet and 1 shumai, we decided to leave so we paid and left. three staff members did apologize but we were annoyed at this point. Drink orders should've been taken at the start. it was pretty slow at the time also, Good Service is what brings me back to a restaurant and canton house did not have it on this day. I'll probably just stick with east pearl maybe I'll give canton house another try some day. But it's a for me. It should not take 45 mins to bring water. read more
