I go hear to sell coins. I am not a numismatist. My Mom had saved silver coins and old coins since I was a kid. When those coins became mine I decided to sell some. I needed a place I could trust to give me the best advice on what to sell and what might be better kept for a better price later or might be something to pass along as inheritance to my kids. I chose Royal Coins. Why? 1) Mom and pop spot 2) Not huge and impersonal. There's just a couple guys up front who sit down with you and gently handle your loot. 3) They show you all the exchange rates for the silver I am selling. Even tell me when that price is up or down for that day and why. 4) They will pay me in cash or check. 5) It feels safe and friendly. There are a lot of coin buyers in town. You can even sell them online. But I am not sending my coins away in the mail and waiting for some check to show up. I want to go in and sit across from someone who has done this for more than a couple months. I like being able to pull right up to the front of the store and being rung in at the door. I like knowing that they treat me like I am buying or selling millions in coinage. Sometimes all it takes is just treating people like they matter that make them bring their business back. This place used to be a fair and honest place to do business with but ever since the young men who took over the jobs of the older men who used to work at Royal Coin is not the same. Honestly today I tried to sell back a few coins that I bought from them a few years back and the young men working there offered me only face value for coins I paid much more for. Shop around and check prices with other stores. I've sold coins to them in the past and felt what they paid me was a bit low, but fair. In the past, I never got a great vibe when I was there, maybe because I'm a woman and they could take advantage of my naïveté. Yesterday I brought in gold to sell, and their offer was 30% lower than Jonathan's Fine Jewelry. It was so much lower that I was stunned, and asked him to run his calculations again. Then he went and had the manager confirm his offer and he said it was a good offer for me. Not so much! I won't be back. Reducing the pay out by that much is too greedy. I won't do business with anyone that is trying to take advantage of me as the customer. I realize they need to make a profit, but their offer was a rip off. read more

This place offered me the most money for my coins. I went to every coin shop in Houston. Some shops were low ball'ers, some just rude, but Royal Coins was friendly, honest and up front. They did not pressure me at all to sell. Anyhow, I did sell my coins to them and while I was there I found out they also bought used jewelry. I went home and gathered up some old gold and silver jewelry that was just collecting dust and brought it Royal Coins. They tested and weighed my jewelry in front of me and offered a cash price. Horrible customer service! As a loyal customer of over 20 years I cannot believe the recent treatment I received. A couple weeks ago, I asked to look through 90% silver to buy some old halves (sliders). The clerk said it was against store policy to let me look through them because someone in the past had stolen a couple. I reminded him that I have been a long time customer and assured him that I would not steal from him . He agreed to let me look them over and purchase some. Mind you, these are worn out coins worth a bit more than melt. We're not talking gold or rare coins. This past weekend (4/27/13), I went back to buy more and apparently ran into what I presume to be the head guy / owner. When I asked if I could look at the 90% coins again, he flatly refused stating company policy and that someone had stolen from him. I told him that I was not going to steal from him, but he again said "NO". He added, "if we lose 2 or 3 customers over this policy, that's ok". At that point, I decided after 20+ years, Royal Coins and I would NEVER again do business.
