If you've ever been to one of these types of places you've sort of been to em all. Your typical fried fish, wings, fries, two slices of bread and the "crack powder" sprinkled on top with a can of soda hood spots. This area is void of any places with unique restaurants or originality as it's standard fast food fare up and down fifth so I gave these folks a try. I've had em before back in the day and nothings changed. Standard fare that could be easily emulated at home but it's convenient and no frills and that's why it's called fast food. You go in, speak to a robotic personality having foreign worker, you pay, they make it, then boom bam boom you're out the door. Whelp....if the roach trap in the corner wasn't enough when I walked in last week , the grandfather of all roaches came to greet me as I waited on my food. After my greeting, I politely asked the guy who's there usually working the window for a refund. He asked why, I replied "I just seen something out here I shouldn't have seen" He didn't ask ANY questions or seemed concerned. I called to ask questions about the menu and location and to try to place an order. someone answered and hung up immediately. I assumed it was a glitchy phone so I called in a total of 8 times trying to place an order and they literally hung up on me all 8 times. They would answer each time and hang up on purpose. Their customer service was so terrible that I will never order from them. A good company that wants to last has great customer service and a part of having a business is answering the phone. The original plan was J Hot Fish down the street, but they were closed. I'm happy this place turned out so tasty. Everything was super flavorful and surprisingly crunchy in the styrofoam carryout it came in. I didn't know what I should order, so we ended up getting a couple combos and buffalo wings. I found it easier to order using the combo number, but regret not ordering okra or any other sides. The #3 is the tilapia and wing combo. The #8 is the tilapia and shrimp combo. Both combos come with fries and a soda. Super crunchy, well seasoned cornmeal coating made this better than other fried fish I've had. I prefer fried fish and chicken wings on the extra crispy and more cooked side since I just like the crunch. It took about 15 minutes after the order was placed, I could see how it could be a long wait if they're busy. Prob should call ahead to order takeout. read more

Stumbled upon Royal quickly after relocating to Columbus and have already been twice! If you're looking for good fried food (chicken, catfish and shrimp to be exact) then Royal has you covered. They also put the lemon pepper seasoning on the top which is probably my favorite part. Although the fries were cold and underwhelming, the other parts of my meal made up for it. So I have heard about this place on several occasions and I was in the neighborhood so I thought ill give them a try. I so wish I hadn't! I called ahead to place my order and I had questions (this my first time eatting here so I wanted to know a few things) but before I could ask the person on the phone he hung up on me. So I called back and told him he hung up on me and thats rude he apologize and took my order. He said 15 mins and hung up! I wait 15 mins and arrive to get my food and pay and no one is in the store! I end up waiting another 20 mins for my food. The employee was rude when he finally gave me my food. I asked for a bbq sauce and ketchup and he throw the bbq in the bag and shoved the bag through this little window. I just grabbed my food and left. My chicken tasted like fish! I bit one piece and instantly was pissed! I threw the rest of it in the trash! It came with fries and bread for 9.99! I wont be coming back. My husband and I were running errands and were hungry. Once that errand was complete he said I saw a little place down the street. My comment was, "Oh LORD!" We went down the street, stepped in and placed our order for a Number 4. We have a word for great food and good doesn't describe it. Fresh! Hot! Delicious! The whiting and the chicken were extraordinary! They sprinkled what I call "prairie dust" on the whole order including the fries. I wanted to sing it was so good. So I went back a second time about a week later because I wanted to share with my mom. Same delicious food and same service. Mom was also very impressed. Royal Fish is a great takeout in Columbus, OH. I'm not from there so I'm not sure which section of Ohio it is. The fish was crispy the shrimp was good and the fries slightly seasoned. Royal Fish, Shrimp, & Chicken was, about a month ago, added to Amazon Prime restaurants (although I haven't caught it when it's been an available restaurant to order from again). It was right when I was craving chicken. Which was quite evident based on the sheer amount of food that my partner and I ordered. We got several boxes of wings with fries and slaw. Baked beans, greens, mac and cheese, as well as potato salad. I seriously appreciated all of it. The wings were great with the seasoning and the amount of crispy. The fryer was at the right temp as none of them were burned or oil logged. The mac was super creamy and the potato salad was made in the shop. Greens were good (although, I wished that I got more than just the small). The baked beans weren't quite cooked all the way. But you know what, that shows me that they are cooking beans from dried at RFS&C and I appreciate the hell out of that. Oh, and when I saw that there were sweet potato pies that could be ordered for dessert... I added two. This North Carolinian LOVES sweet potato pie. They were delicious especially when warmed up! On the slaw, being a southerner sometimes I taste slaw here in Ohio and I think, "what the hell is this'. But in this case, I found myself thinking, 'Damn, this would pair well with all sorts of fried fish'. It was a slightly sweet, finely chopped Mayo with a splash of vinegar slaw (for any slaw connoisseurs). Guess I know what I am getting next time we order! On a side note, we did have to heat up the sides when we got them. But you know what, so what? It didn't inconvenience us any and they were ready in no time. Royal Fish and Chicken has been a great find since moving to Columbus. Some people may be scared because it's not the nicest looking neighborhood, but those restaurants be the best. As the name indicates they're best known for their fish and chicken, but the menu has so much more to offer like Gyros and pizza puffs. Grubhub shares in the reason this place only got two stars from me. And since I primarily use Yelp to order food delivered to my hotel room when I'm out on the road delivery is going to factor into the overall score. The food I got was, okay. Perch is a great little fish and although this order was VERY late getting to my room it was still a little warm and very good. My order was for the large perch dinner, slaw, fries and a Dr Pepper. I got the fish, a double order or slaw and the Grubhub driver drank my Dr Pepper (no, really he did). If the order hadn't been screwed up and included fries it would have reflected much differently. I like good slaw and this was very much good slaw. But if you place a food order, the easiest part of the process is getting the right thing to the right plate. The difficulty should lie in the preparation and cooking. Let's talk about Grubhub a little. When my meal was obviously running late I called the restaurant and they knew nothing of my order. Said nothing had been picked up by Grubhub. Also said, they've never gotten an order from Yelp. So, be cautious when using this app. My meal was indeed very late and I got a phone call from a Chicago number and a dude that spoke very broken English and I gathered he was trying to tell me the driver was at the hotel but he couldn't find me. My question is why wasn't the driver calling me? This phone relay seemed ridiculous when we all have cell phones. So I go to the front desk and there's the driver and my food. When I say, "hey, I'm Scott" he points at my food sitting on the counter and walks out. I pick up my bag and grab the Dr Pepper sitting beside it.......... and it's almost completely drank. WTF?!?!?! He just helps himself to my beverage? In closing, this food is okay. In the restaurant and in person it might be a completely different experience. When you can complain to the guy behind the counter that your sides are incorrect. And there's no middle man to slurp down your soft drink. But if you're hungry and have a certain expectation about the food you want delivered to your hotel room be forewarned. You might not want to use Grubhub. Nestled in what some would consider not "the best" neighborhood, Royal Fish & Chicken has undoubtedly the best fried seafood that I've had since moving here to Columbus from Louisiana. And back home, we take our seafood seriously! All plates are made to order with a wonderful "secret" seasoning sprinkled abundantly throughout that makes the entire meal AMAZING! We both had the tilapia and wings combo and both items were very tasty. Some of the best fried chicken and fried fish I have had in a long time. Not very greasy at all and very tender. The froes were just okay and left me wishing I had tried the coke slaw! The tarter, cocktail and hot sauce were all served in packets this my score of four stars. I found this place a few weeks ago. They were the only one open on a holiday. I've been a few times. They have a variety of food that they carry, mostly different versions of fried chicken and seafood. They also say they make pizza but the couple times I've been there I've never seen it ordered. I normally just just chicken wings from here when I'm craving them. It's quick if you order ahead. When I've gone to pick up food before there have been people waiting for awhile if they preferred when they got there. They are also open pretty late. I'm not a fan of the "antrax" that everyone loves so much, so I make sure they don't put it on there. People say the customer service is bad, but I always tip on carry out, as I have done here and I've never had an issue with the customer service. Very good food. We had the the 4 piece chicken wings with 8 shrimp meal. Chicken and shrimp nicely fried and seasoned. You want a little razzle dazzle add some of their special seasoning to it.
