    House Special Coconut Chicken Combo
    Janice C.

We had this coconut chicken soup dinner many times and love it so much. Service is good and it's nice to have some home cooking food around in the neighborhood.

I love hot pot and couldn't to try! When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was sat. I was served by a nice man. I had: House Special Coconut chicken combo Steamed egg with shrimp baby shrimp egg fried rice The food was good just needed a bit of salt. I really liked the house special with the ramen! All in all it was a good experience.

Came here for the chicken pot. First the place has a very nice ambiance. Can tell the owner put a lot of effort. Ordered the melon chicken pot, the soup was very good. Did not have a heavy MSG taste. The chicken is meant to be eaten on the side with their sauces. Can mix and match. Then after the soup comes the hotpot to finish. Overall good dining experience.

Finally got to try the original spot and I could definitely taste the difference. The quality is superior...chicken was fresh and tender, marinated perfectly to balance the sweetness of the fresh coconut broth they used. This is such a clean and healthy alternative to your usual hot pot spots with the oily broths. Would come back to this one over and over again. The service here was also exceptional. The waiters were super friendly and attentive to all my annoying requests. The owner also happened to be there and he was super friendly to all the customers.

I love the pepper, young chicken soup base. Chicken is so fresh and tender. I used to go to the one on Main Street, but it burned down. So glad I found this place which in fact is the original owner

I ordered take out from here and I was surprised at how how good the hotpot was. They're known for their coconut chicken hotpot but we decided to get the chicken and intestine soup base. Everything was packaged really well and they definitely gave plenty of soup, with lots of chicken and intestines in every container. There was also some raw vegetables for you to add to your own pot when you heat it up but those were just basic vegetables. We could've also added additional ingredients that we wanted in our hotpot / that would've been packaged separately for that hotpot experience but we just chose not to for take out. Definitely would have added additional items if we were dining in though. The chicken and intestine soup base was surprisingly good, especially since I'm not a big fan of intestine soups cause it can sometimes be funky. This broth was very rich and hearty and the intestines weren't funky at all. There was also so much meat, like I mentioned above. We also got the Hainanese chicken that I found to be just okay. Meat was decently tender but there wasn't much flavor. I only stepped in briefly to pick up my order and inside was small but still had lots of seating. Everything was nice and clean and properly placed on the tables. They also gave a bunch of sauces with our take out which I'm sure would've been what they offered if you dined in. The spicy sauce in particular was delicious.

Lobster- Ginger scallion sauce on bed of Ho Fun

This place is great. The staff is very helpful and nice. We loved the decor and the place setting was lovely. Really loved each table had a pot of Ginger scallion sauce, soy sauce and red sauce. This place is outside of Flushing Chinese enclave. It's located in Little Neck. It's small but very nicely appointed. We were interested in the Coconut Chicken hotpot but it's too hot to eat. We ordered the black bean spare rib claypot rice, lobster in ginger scallion sauce, chicken with Ginger scallion sauce, cloud ear cucumber cold appetizer and greens with garlic. Everything was delicious. The lobster was meaty and in a bed on a bed of Ho Fun ( rice noodles) the chicken was cooked perfectly and tender. The cloud ear and cucumber was a great palate cleanser and appetizer. The claypot rice was so good with the crispy bottom that got a splash of the table soy sauce and spare ribs was flavorful and tender. Ample for 4 people with the other dishes. I will need to come again with some people to try out the hotpot and some other dishes. I want to try the hainan chicken too. A definite revisit.

This place is a gem! I'm so happy they opened this location! I was sad when the one on Main Street closed down due to a fire but the chef came to this location! The service was great and the coconut chicken was so juicy and tender. My dad is from Hainan so I can say the taste is definitely authentic. They even have clay pot rice! The casserole was very flavorful too. This is going to be our new spot from now on! I highly recommend this place. Definitely try their coconut dessert ~ to die for!

    Great quality beef

Excellent hot pot place in Little Neck and this is *not* those usual AYCE hot pot. Coconut chicken hot pot is their specialty and it's a must try. They cut open fresh young coconuts at your table to make the hot pot soup, not the MSG soup base. All fresh ingredients, the chicken is really tender and all veggies are fresh. The house special combo comes with noodles also. You can add other items a la crate, which we did the beef and fried beancurd roll. Beef is great quality. Don't leave without trying the ginger sauce (one of the 3 condiments on table)! Staff were attentive. They answered our questions about the menu, refilled our tea and water from time to time. Nice place for a relaxed hearty meal. Definitely will come back to try their other hot pots, herbal chicken and papaya fish maw chicken (this is a delicacy).

Coconut chicken hot pot seems to be increasing in popularity and this place might have the best version that I've tried. Located on a small storefront in the heart of Little Neck, we walked by a few times but never indulged. Finally we went in and I'm glad we did. This place only serves mostly chicken dishes and the coconut chicken hot pot is the main attraction. They use fresh marinated chicken and cook it in coconut water. It sounds strange but its incredibly refreshing. The chicken comes out tender and sweet. You also get a bunch of the regular veggie add ons and other choices a la carte if you want. Default size is a pot for 2 which runs about 70 bucks (more than enough to eat). The hainan chicken here is also incredible. It's tender, juicy and this place has some of the best condiments for chicken I've had. Ginger scallion in oil, roasted chilis in oil, sweet soy sauce and chili sauce in vinegar are all on the table and incredibly fresh. Combining them all together makes the best dipping sauce ever. The coconut pudding is a perfect way to end the meal. Service here is excellent. The staff here is friendly and knows how to serve this meal properly to make sure you enjoy the food as the chef intended. Hard to find a fault here, will be a regular.

I love the herbal chicken hot pot. Would return just for this. I also ordered hainan chicken and silkie chicken soup to go. The soup was okay. And the hainan chicken was average would order ago but not the silkie soup. Staff was very attentive and nice and the restaurant was cozy and clean. I love the trio sauce.

A new hot pot and Chinese cuisine spot in Little Neck. Upon entering, it's very clean and organized looking. Tables are a little tight on the two seaters given so much surface space is wasted with too much on the tables. There was also a carafe of lemon and cucumber water, served room temp, already on the table. Didn't like that it was not iced. Who knows how long it was sitting there! A trio of sauces, a bowl and saucer, as well as a soup spoon. Plus a square hot pot plate smack in the middle of the table. Really no room for much else. And I disliked the cheap napkins offered. They spent so much on creating this stylish table but cheap napkins. Eek. You order on your tables' designated ipad and be sure to click "send to kitchen" after adding things to your cart. Otherwise the order never makes it to the kitchen. Wait staff was on hand if you needed assistance and to bring you items. There's a call button on the iPad when you need them. Our food came quickly but I can't say that that was a good thing. Tells me way too many things were pre-made and kind of just sitting in the kitchen. My friend and I ordered two items to share, for lunch. - First was the half order of Hainan chicken. Sadly, nothing to write about that's positive. The chicken was uneven in temperature, cold on some pieces and room temperature on others. It also didn't come with rice and I saw no option for Hainan rice on the side - it just wasn't on the menu. Sad. - Second, we ordered the beef over rice. That came out much later so we knew it was going to be hot. It was white rice served with tender pieces of beef, Chinese baby mushrooms and two sprigs of Chinese broccoli. The bowl was so small, it was meant for one. But the disappointment lies with the flavor. Beef was so tender but under seasoned. The mushrooms had more flavor. And no sauce... Not even a drizzle. Luckily there were sauces on the table to save this dish. Those sauces included: ginger and garlic oil, soy sauce, a sweet red chili, and a green spicy pepper with oil. I sampled all and preferred the sweet chili or the ginger. Overall, table was too tight and while the chairs were comfortable, there were slats on the floor to prevent you from moving the seat much. Little frustrating but it's probably because of the wiring needed for the hot plate. At any rate, not recommending.

It's easily missed if you don't pay attention. There wasn't much pedestrian traffic either. Business is mainly depends on spread of words from returning customers. Right opposite from the cafe is Jmart Chinese grocery store which is convenient. Cafe closes 6 pm daily. Self service. No tips needed. Service: wait staff was very friendly. Food time was quick. Owners stopped by the table and started conversation. It was karaoke time when we walked in. Food: - their milk tea was highly recommended to us. So four of us tried the hot and cold milk tea and hot milk tea / coffee combo. All of them were very rich in flavor and smooth, exactly what a milk tea should be. $4.75 for a 12 oz hot milk tea is reasonable. - French toast with peanut butter: Love the syrup that it came with. It has a distinct refreshing flavor with delighted sweetness. Definitely different from other syrup from other places which is just pure sweetness. Owner told us the syrup was imported from England. Highly recommended! - turnip, fish ball, rice roll: 3 in one bowl. Portion is enough to share - scallion chicken: It was recommended to me also. It was indeed very tender and flavorful. $24 for half a chicken with one quart of soup. Conclusion: will definitely return. Even just stopping by to pick up a flavorful milk tea which is cheaper than a sugary bubble tea.

OK, I'm finally ready to give my review!…read more I moved to Little Neck earlier this year and have been coming to Marathon Cafe pretty often. I was ready to give it 5 stars after my first few visits, but I wanted to try as many dishes as possible before rushing a review. After several visits, I'd confidently give it 4.5 stars. Here's everything I've tried and what I'd recommend: Beef Macaroni with Egg: A million times YES!!! Believe the hype because it's every bit as good as everyone says! It's the ultimate comfort food. The cellentani pasta is an elite choice, cooked perfectly al dente and coated in a sweet, thick, tangy tomato sauce that's flavorful without being overly acidic. This is an absolute must order! Creamed Corn with Fried Fish: Don't knock it until you try it! The creamed corn is thick, smooth, and naturally sweet, while the fish is perfectly crispy without being overcooked. It sounds like an unusual combination, but somehow it works incredibly well together. Tom Yum Seafood Noodle Soup: The broth is tangy, slightly sweet, and very comforting. I personally would've liked it a bit spicier, but it was still delicious. It also comes with large shrimps and mussels. Rice Rolls with Fish Balls & Turnip: A Cantonese staple done right! The rice rolls are soft and bouncy, served with the perfect balance of peanut sauce and hoisin. The turnip is tender, and everything comes together really well. Bolo Yau (Pineapple Bun with Butter): The pineapple bun is warm, fluffy, and flaky. Honestly, it's delicious even on its own. The thick slab of butter melts quickly, which makes it a little too oily... Drinks: The iced Hong Kong milk tea and the red bean ice are classic Cantonese staples. You really can't come here without ordering one. What I wasn't crazy about: Lava French Toast: Too crunchy and slightly burnt. It tasted over caramelized, with just too much going on. Not for me! Thick Egg & Spam Sandwich: Nothing special. It was pretty bland, and honestly, it's something you could easily make at home. Not worth the $7. Scallion Chicken over Rice: I don't really understand the hype for this one... The poached chicken itself was a little bland and could've used a little more salt. The ginger scallion sauce usually makes this dish, but here it did the opposite. The scallions were chopped too thick instead of finely minced, so all I tasted was scallion, nothing else. :/ Fried Pork Chop & Cheese with Curry Sauce: It was just OK. I wasn't a fan of the curry sauce. What I would recommend instead is ordering the fried pork chop on the side with their pepper sauce. I paired them together myself, and it was much better! For now, I've tried everything that was on my list, but I'll definitely keep coming back for my favorites. One thing I really appreciate is how consistent they've been with every visit. The portions are generous for the price, and overall it's a place I'd highly recommend if you're looking for solid Hong Kong style comfort food.
