I was reminded they give complementary ice cream and fruit at the end of the meal like most Chinese food sit in restaurants did if they didn't have dessert on the menu. We were stuffed from the delicious food we ate but looking forward to that slice of orange or taste of ice cream. We received 4 chocolate wontons and a 2009 dollar bill. I asked the waiter jokingly, " what happened? You don't like us? He said they don't give fruit anymore or ice cream since Covid. ( MEANWHILE) the table next to us and across from us got it. It doesn't get any better than Pearl East! I live in Howard Beach and wouldn't dream of having Chinese food anywhere else. The food is divine, the service unparalleled, the cost as reasonable as some takeout! How do they do it? We always start with an array of appetizers. Egg roll, rice paper shrimp rolls, pot stickers (pork dumplings), scallion pancake, Kani salad and wonton soup. Seems like a lot, but we can never choose just two, lol. Then the entree varies and it is tough to decide. Sliced white meat chicken in spicy chili sauce, shredded roast pork with vegetables, chicken chow mein, any fried rice, lobster with scallion and ginger or filet of beef with cumin are just a few of our favorites. So it's been a while and we decided to get lunch from Pearl East on Northern Blvd. We looked in the bag and the plastic containers were very small. The hot and sour soup was very very good, but the lunches ranging $17 to $21 are terribly overpriced for such small portions. There no eggroll included, those are $4.50 each. I eat at the Manhasset location occasionally-but parking there is terrible and that's what keeps me from going there. On this particular occasion I decided to order via Uber Eats and was not happy with my order. It was cold by the time it got to me. Here's what I was told by the driver - the order had been mistakenly picked up by another driver and he had to wait. When I called the restaurant to try and get the truth the gentleman answered the phone was evasive on what happened and when I questioned him further he got defensive and said that he wasn't there when "it happened" I still don't know what happened - did the wrong driver take the food and it had to be remade by restaurant and wait for another driver. OR was the food returned by the first driver to the restaurant and the second driver took the bag and delivered it to me, in which case I had multiple hands on my bag. Just to be safe - never ordering from that restaurant again and never using Uber Eats again - both places are equally at fault here. Went for an early dinner at Pearl East, highly recommended by our neighbors and they didn't disappoint. There is parking in front of the restaurant including 2 handicap slots, not sure if there is more parking in the back. The facade matches the Chinese Cuisine as advertised, the decor inside is beautiful, clean, classic and tasteful. PE has a comprehensive menu which includes Japanese Cuisine. Our dishes were delicious with a nice presentation. The service was "old school", we were greeted at the door and showed to our table; almost immediately a server came with tea, water, dried noodles and sauce. The Lychee Martini was very good. We came here after my grandmas unveiling. This restaurant is very special to our family since this was my grandmas favorite restaurant. She would order to her apartment, come and sit with friends, and her office would host holiday parties here. I want to give a big thank you to the owner here for always loving my grandma Cookie and taking care of her. The restaurant is upscale and beautiful. They did a great job decorating. The food here is great. They have sushi and Chinese food. Sushi is always fresh and delicious! The honey walnut shrimp was my grandmas favorite and it was great. Their entire menu is great. Pearl East was definitely a shocking pleasant surprise. We looked on Yelp for a restaurant to go eat at that was pretty local , we never heard about this location . When we arrived there was valet , which was great , then you enter and it was so beautiful. The front bar was busy , the hostess sat us immediately with our reservations on a Friday night and the food was phenomenal. We absolutely feel in love . Very unique dishes, my favorite Mango Chicken with honey walnuts and asparagus... simply outstanding. They also make a lot of their dishes gluten free as well. Egg rolls are pork and shrimp combined so beware if you are allergic to shrimp. The Ambience is beautiful and clean with white tablecloths as I looked in the dining area as I picked up my takeout. My family has been enjoying Pearls for probably more than 20 years ! It has been going less than perfect in the last few years.My brother and I went this evening and it was a zoo and everything about it was horrible. We ended up leaving in the middle of appetizer. When we came in the hostess asked if we would eat fast? I have never imagined. One app came out but not the other . When we asked the waiter was just so rude! All I can say is they need competition! Dish after dish of deliciousness came out I cannot even pronounce half of them, but they were completely authentic and full of flavor. I stopped by here before so this is an overdue review. I decided to grab a bite to eat here for lunch. I was kind of unsure of what I wanted to order, a lot of Chinese restaurants including here do not give descriptions of menu items and I don't particularly like some vegetables that are in some dishes. I ended up with Chicken and Broccoli and I asked for spicy garlic sauce. I started off with hot and sour soup and an egg roll. The egg roll was good but a little bit oily. The hot and sour soup was piping hot (almost burnt my mouth lol). It was very good and full of black mushrooms. The chicken and broccoli was not my favorite-the sauce wasn't even really a sauce, more like a glaze and not spicy at all. Fortunately the soup and egg roll plus the complimentary noodles filled me up so I didn't feel too guilty leaving a little of my food leftover. Service was very good and the hostess greeting me was very friendly and checked up on me to see how my meal was. If I'm in the area I may stop by again but try something else. read more

We decided to go back to Pearl East about 3 years ago, and live with the gentlemen up front, waiters are much better these days. The food is still the best Chinese around but the prices are now more than sky high. It is like going to a fine French Restaurant with a bill to match. I can't believe I forgot to post this review earlier. So ok, let's try again. We came here with Mommy, my mother-in-law, on Christmas. The restaurant is big, beautiful, and practices social distancing, and very clean. We had Philip as our waiter. We ordered hot and sour soup and wonton soup to start. The hot and sour soup was delicious. Mommy and I enjoyed it. Hubby enjoyed his wonton soup. I tried some, and that was very good too. For the entree, we ordered a snapper that came creatively and served with bok choy. I asked for sauce on the side. The dish was perfect. We also ordered sizzling oriental mish. This sizzling dish was excellent. It includes lobster tail, jumbo shrimp, and some vegetables. Another great dish was barbecued jumbo shrimp. It had great taste in it. I loved all three dishes. First time here in 20 yrs but based on the rave reviews on the Tri-State restaurant site on Facebook we decided to try Pearl's again. Honestly for Cantonese food I had a hard time choosing an entree. Server also brought out skinny dipping noodles until I asked for the wide crispy ones. I made up my own dish which totally confused my server -- shrimp with baby eggplant in black bean sauce. Also I do not like sitting in the lap of other diners, very tight spacing for the 2 of us. Hubby liked his chicken chow fun but the chicken pieces were very small and almost invisible. My family and I came here after hearing good reviews and knowing the restaurant's reputation. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. When we walked in, the greeting was unusually cold and not welcoming. There were noodles on the table with duck sauce, mustard, and hot tea. The waiter was attentive throughout the meal. We started with edamame, which is hard to get wrong, and it was as expected so it was good. For entrees, we tried the chicken and broccoli, which was alright - the chicken was so thin that the texture felt a bit off and needed salt. The General Tso's chicken, while it was good it only had one pepper and was not spicy like expected and even asked for it spicy. The orange beef was the 2nd red flag. The steak was tender but it didn't taste how it should not like anything we ever had, an odd flavor, and didn't even taste like meat. Everyone at the table tried it and we all agreed that it was unsettling enough for us to send it back. The manager or owner approached us to ask about the issue, but the interaction came across as a bit confrontational even if it was unintentional, it did make us uncomfortable. I stopped by here for a meal with some friends before we pressed on to pick someone else up. Decent lunch menu and quick service as well.

First off, there was no bathroom and they were sending people to a room at an hourly hotel. The had no security at the bathroom and nothing to dry hands with. I assume this was a health ode violation on so many levels but most importantly, if you were handicapped you would not be able to use the bathroom. Second, the waiters kept stock their fingers in the food when serving. So much so that when they brought over duck sauce and mustard the finger went in the duck sausage and then dropped into the mustard. All and all horrific customer service. read more
