Growing up, I've always noticed Roy's but never went inside. I finally decided to give it a try since I've been on a coffee kick lately. The baristas were super nice, especially the soft-spoken employee who took my order. A rush had came in right before I ordered, but my drink was ready in no time. My favorite coffee to order is an iced americano, and this time was no different. I enjoyed the americano here. Not bitter at all. I also liked how much seating there is outside. It's been awhile/few years since I've visited Roy's Station Coffee & Teas in Japantown. If you like good vibes, busy atmosphere, popular spots filled with customers, and great over the counter customer service, then this is the place for you. It's always busy inside, so expect lines and often crowds. There's a few tables and chairs inside, but the spacious outdoor patio area is the best, especially because you can get a very good dose of sunshine outside. I had a $5.50 small cup iced plain coffee with a $5 pan au chocolat/chocolate croissant. In my opinion, it wasn't the best tasting nor best texture. The chocolate croissant bread shrunk into a flatter version after it was warmed up and it was the oiliest one I've ever had. Limited pastries are basics. Beverage options are ok. This is a good spot for casual meetups and convenience though. If you walk or bike or live nearby in the area, this type coffee tea spot is for you. It's just always popular and busy daily. I think what they have going works for them but their coffee program could use some new inspiration and improvement for the coffee drinker that likes to try exciting new coffees and drinks. I was bopping around Japantown and decided to pop in here for a quick pick me up. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk and almond syrup and a breakfast sausage and potato galette. I loved the amount of seating here inside and out. The staff was friendly and got my order out lickety split. I did knocked off a star because the latte was really good but I definitely should have gone with another syrup because I couldn't really taste it. I was also excited for the galette but was a little disappointed because the breakfast sausage and potatoes a bit too dry for me. It's been a while since I've visited Roy's but it's still such a cute coffee spot in San Jose. On Saturday afternoon, it was so lively and there were lots of locals shopping and walking their dogs in the Jtown area, and also stopping for coffee at Roy's. They have the holiday decor up, and holiday drinks are out. They have some indoor tables, but it's mostly outdoor seating. Roy's used to be a gas station in the early 1900's, and I think it's really cool that they still have some of the original antiques from the location's history (like photos of the old gas station, it's Coke vending machine from the 1950's). Love places like this with history in San Jose. Their service is quite fast. Only reason I didn't give 5-stars is because the parking situation is difficult sometimes. Pretty solid amount of outdoor seating, and a solid selection of food and drink options. I'm always a sucker for a Mexican mocha, and they had a spiced mocha that scratched that itch. It actually had a kick, which most places shy away from. But the real star of the show was the Korean garlic bun. It was not at all what I was expecting. Very strong savory flavors with the garlic and cheese on top, but the inside had a sweet cream. It was delicious. I've never had a sweet and savory combination like that before. Roy's Station is a great coffee shop to enjoy a drink and meet with people. I'm not a coffee drinker so I order their teas, and I've been happy with all of them. (I've had the kouberry herbal iced tea and peach apricot tea, and I enjoyed them all.) Their pastries are tasty too. I especially dig the history behind this spot, and there are some relics of the past on display inside, including one of the original gas pumps and a fully functional classic Coca-Cola dispenser. I'm sure this is a one-off experience, but still pretty disappointing... We were driving through Japantown and saw a bunch of people sitting outside this coffee shop. It looked so nice, so after we got our poke we headed over for some much needed coffee. We ordered a Dirty Chai and tried their Coco Bee Latte, one of their specials for the month. Here's where the experience turned south: they had a young kid helping out (which I think is great btw), but she dropped the dirty chai on the floor. When I picked it up from the counter, there was a long awkward pause (I think the barista was hoping I didn't see her drop it) and with a lot of hesitation, they said "so you want us to make you a new one?" I politely said yes and no worries cause I didn't want her to feel bad, but after some reflection, I wondered why wouldn't that be the default solution? Then the coco bee latte came out and it's a hot drink? If my memory serves me right, the description says something about "cold brew latte," which makes me think that this would be an iced drink? (It's not). Cutting to the chase, the dirty chai was sour and the coco bee latte was extremely sweet. So overall, not a great experience. Finally I got the chance to try Roy's and it didn't disappoint. From the outside looking in, Roy's has the best location. Situated in the corner lot in the heart of Japan Town, across from the Buddhist temple, Roy's has a cute outdoor seating area with ample spaces. In a sunny day like today, you can see people hanging out here with friends and pets, having a sip of coffee while catching up or doing their homework. Parking is a bit tricky as it's Japan town. But if you're willing to walk a bit, there're always street parkings 1 or 2 blocks away. One step inside Roy's and you'll be taken back to older historic times. Roy's so charming with two corner big window, classic coke dispensing machine and a red brick wall with arts and plants donning it. The delicious coffee smell mixed with yummy pastries welcomed me and made me feel immediately at home. The line was a bit long but it moved fast. I order Green Tea Latte on their special menu. My drink came out fast. I really enjoyed how light and smooth it was! The latte left a lovely aftertaste and I grew more and more in love with every sip. I've seen Roy's in Japantown for years but I finally stopped by for the first time several weeks ago and ordered the iced matcha latte. I was pretty disappointed since the matcha taste was pretty weak and watered down, and the drink was overly milky. If I come back in the future, I don't think I would get the matcha latte as you can get better drinks elsewhere though I'd be open to trying another drink in the menu. I won a gift card for Roy's from an auction in Japantown earlier this year and I finally had an opportunity to use it today. I wasn't too impressed with their coffee, unfortunately. I had a spiced mocha which the barista recommended and it was served lukewarm and a bit too spicy for me. It gave me heartburn and I couldn't finish it. Another spot I tried to find my favorite coffee place is Roy's Station. Trying to find a well balanced coffee place has been an adventure. Here are my thoughts. Mostly I saw that it was from Zannattos. Nothing wrong with that actually because I like Zannattos food. Their sandwiches are always YUM! They also had other items like a croissant and the usual pastries. I wanted to order one, but I totally forgot it when it came time for me to order. The drinks I ordered was from the barista special. I ordered the SJ Taiko Tropic Thunder and Maggie's Mocha Toffee. I thought the mocha toffee was delicious. Though I should've ordered it as an iced drink but I spaced out and forgot to mention it. It wasn't bad hot anyways. It had a perfect balanced between sweet and bitter. You can taste the sweet chocolate and the bits of toffee with ever sip. Ambiance: Cute design and brings me back to a car hop kind era. They didn't quite have a lot of decorations going on, but some aesthetics in the right places.
