I was bopping around Japantown and decided to pop in here for a quick pick me up. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk and almond syrup and a breakfast sausage and potato galette. I loved the amount of seating here inside and out. The staff was friendly and got my order out lickety split. I did knocked off a star because the latte was really good but I definitely should have gone with another syrup because I couldn't really taste it. I was also excited for the galette but was a little disappointed because the breakfast sausage and potatoes a bit too dry for me. I'd definitely come back again though cause there is more I'd like to try!!

It's been a while since I've visited Roy's but it's still such a cute coffee spot in San Jose. On Saturday afternoon, it was so lively and there were lots of locals shopping and walking their dogs in the Jtown area, and also stopping for coffee at Roy's. They have the holiday decor up, and holiday drinks are out. They have some indoor tables, but it's mostly outdoor seating. Roy's used to be a gas station in the early 1900's, and I think it's really cool that they still have some of the original antiques from the location's history (like photos of the old gas station, it's Coke vending machine from the 1950's). Love places like this with history in San Jose. Their service is quite fast. Only reason I didn't give 5-stars is because the parking situation is difficult sometimes. There's only street parking and it gets crowded on weekends. Will be back again though!

Was just average for me. I got a hot specialty coffee but wasn't hot enough and needed to be stronger. Overall it was ok. Cute inside and is a Japantown staple.

Roy's is a cute little coffee shop in San Jose. It's definitely got a upscale, converted gas station vibe that is really interesting. Pretty solid amount of outdoor seating, and a solid selection of food and drink options. I'm always a sucker for a Mexican mocha, and they had a spiced mocha that scratched that itch. It actually had a kick, which most places shy away from. But the real star of the show was the Korean garlic bun. It was not at all what I was expecting. Very strong savory flavors with the garlic and cheese on top, but the inside had a sweet cream. It was delicious. I've never had a sweet and savory combination like that before. Highly recommend!

Roy's Station Coffee & Tea located on the corner of 5th & Jackson Ave. They offer outside patio seating and inside seating with A/C. The staff are super nice and friendly. The decor is simplistic but has that homey feel. They even have a working glass bottle soda machine. One unisex restroom with code. I ordered a Dirty Chai (chai + espresso). It was good.

Roy's Station is a great coffee shop to enjoy a drink and meet with people. I'm not a coffee drinker so I order their teas, and I've been happy with all of them. (I've had the kouberry herbal iced tea and peach apricot tea, and I enjoyed them all.) Their pastries are tasty too. I especially dig the history behind this spot, and there are some relics of the past on display inside, including one of the original gas pumps and a fully functional classic Coca-Cola dispenser. I hope that more people will forgo their Starbucks and Peet's fixes to come enjoy their coffee and tea in this local shop that has a great atmosphere and enjoyable drinks and bites.

Cool spot they have a lot unique decor, it does get packed but its not too bad. I grabbed a coffee it was good, not the best but also not the worst. I didn't get a chance to try the pastries but they looked very tempting behind the glass. Be prepared to wait on the weekends but for its location and uniqueness its worth the wait.

Roy's is a go-to coffee spot in Japantown for those in the community. They have a consistent menu and usually have at least a few tables of guests either studying/working or chatting at both their indoor and outdoor seating. My favorite drink is their Spiced Mocha, which they decorated with a dusting of cocoa powder in various holiday-themed shapes. While the coffee here is good, I almost enjoy the vibes more. Anyone visiting for the first time can tell that Roy's is a staple "third place" in Japantown and serves as a gathering spot for people of all different ages and groups.

Great place for coffee and pastries for a quick breakfast. Service was quick. Hubby liked the coffee. Place was really busy and they do allow for pets as they had seating in the outside patio. Both my husband and I got two different drinks but they tasted similar and as they were both served in the same way, not sure which was which. lol.

Roy's serves very good coffee in the heart of San Jose Japantown. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and there's a good variety of drinks. Every time I wait for my drink, I enjoy looking at the wall celebrating Roy and his family's legacy. I love supporting local businesses that have been serving the community for decades. Hats off to Mr. Roy and his family!

Iced Dirty Chai & Coco Bee Latte

I'm sure this is a one-off experience, but still pretty disappointing... We were driving through Japantown and saw a bunch of people sitting outside this coffee shop. It looked so nice, so after we got our poke we headed over for some much needed coffee. We ordered a Dirty Chai and tried their Coco Bee Latte, one of their specials for the month. Here's where the experience turned south: they had a young kid helping out (which I think is great btw), but she dropped the dirty chai on the floor. When I picked it up from the counter, there was a long awkward pause (I think the barista was hoping I didn't see her drop it) and with a lot of hesitation, they said "so you want us to make you a new one?" I politely said yes and no worries cause I didn't want her to feel bad, but after some reflection, I wondered why wouldn't that be the default solution? Then the coco bee latte came out and it's a hot drink? If my memory serves me right, the description says something about "cold brew latte," which makes me think that this would be an iced drink? (It's not). Cutting to the chase, the dirty chai was sour and the coco bee latte was extremely sweet. So overall, not a great experience. I did see some other reviews about the service and totally understand the frustration. I mean it was ME saying "no worries" even when they didn't apologize and hesitated to rectify the situation. Total: ~$15 with tip

San Jose Japantown is a lovely area, I've admired their restaurants and shops but haven't really taken a deep dive of historic spots. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking. Plenty of parking but it can get busy. Seating: Inside and outside seating. Room for 40 people or so. Good for small groups or individual. Vibes: Japantown is a pretty charming place. A lot of local shops and eateries. The spot itself is pretty charming. You get the historic feelings of a gas station but the modern feelings from its current design. I enjoy the lite rock music in the back. Good place to catch up with a friend or get some solo work done. FOOD: Sencha (Recommend) Served hot and as advertised - a little grassy, some sweetness, and oceanic tones. I morever felt the Earthiness like all most green teas are. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Got my order pretty quickly. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Good selections, pleasant drink, and great experience. I felt like I was immersed in Japantown by hanging out in this area journaling and observing the interactions of people. There may be your chain coffee shops but this one stands out with its specialized drinks and great service. Best wishes to the Murotsune family! Until next time. #RepresentASIAN TIPS: *They serve some lite brekkie and baked goods (while supplies last)

Seriously enjoying my iced vanilla coffee from Roy's at the Japantown farmers market. Nothing beats enjoying the warm sunshine, live music, and people watching on a Sunday morning. Love this community and the wonderful coffee joy that Roy sprinkles on our community!

Occasionally burnt espresso but I love them too much to mind. I am a matcha snob to say the LEAST. Hands down best coffee shop matcha in the Bay Area. The classic iced matcha latte with honey is grassy and earthy and creamy and a little sweet. The iced banana pudding matcha latte had people lined up around the corner for months when it came out. It is deliciously worth the wait. Best banana cold foam in my opinion because it's made with actual bananas instead of flavoring so it's much more mellow. The double matcha they had for awhile is also awesome. Banana cold foam also goes great on an espresso latte. Now they let you add whichever cold foam you like to whatever drink which is great. Basically you can't go wrong. They are always changing up the menu for the new season and have lots of unique drinks on their menu. Not much seating inside at this location. The winchester Blvd one has more if that's what you're looking for. Their pastries are also all yummy and they sell their matcha powder for $60 for 100g which is a GREAT price for a great matcha. There's metered parking along Second and William street and it wasn't hard to find a spot. I love coming to academic and trying their new drinks, so I'll definitely be back.
