Bert did an amazing job earlier this year sealing all the cracks in our 50+ year old brick front porch. Before we worked with Bert, this was a huge issue every time it rained, as water would sleep through the cracks into the crawlspace below. Other contractors wanted us to redo the entire porch, but Bert suggested a more conservative option of redoing only the really bad areas and touching up the rest. He and his crew were super careful to make sure dust didn't get into the house, covering all the windows and porch with plastic before they got to work. Bert also fixed another part of our brick pathway that was sunk lower than the ground level and made it look good as new. During the last few rains, we haven't seen any water seeping below and the porch looks much better aesthetically as well. We needed to have the bricks on our patio removed and relaid to direct water away from the house. We also wanted to extend some steps from a walkway down to the back patio. We got three bids for this work. Bert was one of two that were reasonable (the third was almost twice the amount). But, more importantly, Bert seemed really interested and came up with good suggestions for both jobs. We are so happy that we hired him for this work. He hand-laid each brick in our patio, raising it and directing water toward a drain. He also created a beautiful path down from our walkway. Bert did fabulous work for us - so easy to recommend him! We asked him to build a backyard retaining wall with a pile of old, large, and very unevenly-sized cobblestones we already had. He did beautiful work, measuring each stone to line up attractive rows, and taking some on-the-fly design tweaks from us. Hired Bert to repair the some cracked mortar in the exterior brick staircase at the front of my house. He did excellent work, was easy to work with, reliable, diligent. He tried hard to diagnose where the water was getting in and then when he came to repair the mortar, he prepared the site well by removing the old mortar. He even went back to Home Depot to try to find a better match for the color. After I paid him, he even came back another day to clean up a little better. Bert is a superior mason and a consummate professional. His assignment was to place a stone veneer over cinder block and over part of the bottom of our home as part of an exterior facelift. Like others have said, he was incredibly reliable and actually came out to give me an estimate on my project within 24 hours of my calling him. Bert came when he said he would be there and was absolutely meticulous with his work. I cannot believe he was able to achieve what he did when applying the veneer. His detail work around corners, on our front post, and for a 5" strip of wood that required him to install around a faucet, was unbelievable. I'll be supplementing this review with some photos, but the house looks better than it ever has and a huge part of that was Bert's unbelievable work. What a great job! From start to finish, this was a great experience. Bert responded quickly to my first email, and was able to drop by a day or two later to talk to me about what I wanted to accomplish to clean up the look and usability of my tiny Mission front yard area. in addition to two really great looking areas of new brickwork, he offered services I didn't expect, and all of it turned out exactly as I had hoped. Bert repaved our large driveway that had been severely compromised by roots from an adjacent tree. He was very knowledgeable and extremely easy to work with. He was open to suggestions. During the course of the preparatory work, we noted our concerns with the drainage in one area of low spot. He collaborated with us to improve a pre-existing condition without a nickel-and-diming mentality. He also threw in a favor by agreeing to repair a small patch of brick that had settled which wasn't part of the original scope of work. We couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. After our planters were further destroyed by the weight of scaffold our building struggled to find a mason to fix the boxes (job was too small, contractors referred out, etc). After months of embarrassment, we discovered Bert of Rozafa Masonry. From initial contact to Project was only 3 weeks and Bert was punctual, communicative, and detail oriented. He was able to evaluate the project two days after calling and started the project 2 weeks later. He noted that the commercially available bricks (currently available) aren't the same size as the other (read 80+years) bricks on our building (like 1/8") and apologized that the bricks wouldn't be exact (I can't tell)!! Given the complexity of the angles (lots of different cuts bc of the bricks have to slope with the driveway), it took Bert 1.5days instead of 1 day. He worked 9-5 (I swear he didn't stop), and came back the next am at 9am to complete the job. It's incredible to find someone who is meticulous about their work (you can see how the painters didn't bother painting below the pile of bricks so touch ups are needed), honest, has a great eye, affordable and available. read more

BERT IS THE BEST!!! Bert did a whole brick job up my lengthy driveway. He completed the brick posts for a gate and then did the retaining wall for the plants to make it look so neat. Bert then completed a small area I intend to use for a small vegetable garden. He showed up on time, worked in all sorts of conditions--even pouring rain, he completed the job in a timely manner and then HE LEFT THE PLACE SPOTLESS. It was a big job that took a while because after he did the bricks for the gate, I needed to get the iron work done before he could come back.
