Update! They just started serving Boba! I can not wait to get home from work today to get another one. It's not like a regular boba tea place with dozens of choices. Since it's a new thing, they only have about 8-10 flavors. I tried honeydew and my daughter had the taro. We requested the drinks be made with green tea, otherwise they're not. It's a whipped frozen drink. I gotta say, their boba is tasty, not mushy or bland like the boba can be at Quickly's locations. Their coffee is also still just as excellent as always. And if they know you, and you have a usual order (like what you get every morning on your way to work), they will have your order ready for you by the time you get to the front of the line. read more

Coffee and snack review only. The sweet sweet roaster in the middle of the room adds a star! Coffee was strong and clearly fresh roasted. Described as a medium-dark roast, which was accurate. Protein power par and apricot bars were both very good. Would like to come back and try their food. A few surprising negatives: -Barista did not know anything about the house made roasted coffee such as varietal or flavor profile. Did not appear to be a coffee expert -Only one type of coffee available for drinks which is shocking given that there is a huge roaster onsite and clearly multiple bags of green -No pour over or french press or Chemex preparation, just pumped from the carafe and only one available I hope I am wrong about most of the above. Maybe a Saturday afternoon is just an off time. Strange to have a roaster and feel like a limited onsite coffee experience. read more

Rrags is the best coffee shop in Benicia. One day my anti-starbucks friend Hobo took my to this place and I've been going ever since. After coming to Rrags I vowed that I would never step into another Starbucks ever again. The coffee here is about 1000x better and the staff is very friendly. They have a very wide range of different flavors and I usually go with an iced latte or mocha. I've never tried their sandwiches but I will be sure to do so in the near future and update my review. read more

Wanted to try this place out, super busy when we got there. But The gentleman taking the orders were super fast. Everywhere I go I always order three shots of espresso over ice, for some reason a lot of coffee places get confused when I order that. This guy knew exactly what I want wanted and completely understood. I even joked with him telling him about other places I've been to out here I get super confused by it such a simple drink. The people that go in there are definitely regulars you can tell by the vibe especially when they're all staring at you like whose this newbie??? My espresso was absolutely delicious perfect! Black and white mocha that we got was also super good. I'm giving three stars just based on the barista who made the drinks. I noticed a lot of people were drinking out of a glass cups and I realized the gentleman didn't ask me if I wanted it for here or to go, so I asked the girl making the drinks if you haven't made the drinks yet can you please put them in for here cups? Since we were sitting there there was no point and using plastic. That seems like a simple question. But apparently it was not. The lady right away looks super confused and gave me quite a bit of attitude. She said " i'm sorry you're asking for it in a glass cup??" With so much attitude. I said "only if you haven't already made the drinks and put it into a plastic if you could just put it into a glass instead that be great." Absolutely blown away by me asking this she hands me my three shots over ice and said "well it's already made for you" I said "that's fine thank you can you put the other one that you're making right now into a glass?" She looks completely lost like a deer in headlights... She said "no one has ever asked us to put iced drinks into a glass cup before.... " At this point I just laughed and said thank you very much have a great day. As I looked around and saw multiple people drinking out of glass cups... And I see a stack sitting right on top of her bar... Maybe she's new? Maybe she wasn't the one who made these other peoples drinks? I'm not really sure but that was the most strangest encounter with a barista I've had. read more

What can I say - I love my Rrags. Im a regular there - they roast their own coffee, tons of locals hang out here. Its a great place to take my nephew, or meet up with my mom and sister. Great prices on drinks - large menu - the owners are usually around and working the counter or roasting the coffee. They remember your name, know your drink, ask you how your family is - or the new job, etc. Very clean. EXCELLENT place for a Chinese Chicken Salad or a fresh made sandwich - no frills here, just great tuna fish, deli meats and chicken salad on daily fresh bread. THEY SERVE NOAHS BAGELS - which I love! I always use Yelp for recommendations on ANYTHING. So I felt somewhat obligated to contribute and be a part of something that I constantly use. The first establishment that came to my mind to write a review on was Rrags. If you are looking for a nice local coffee shop, stop looking because you found it here. I have found my favorite coffee drink here.. so far. It's called Black and White Mocha and it is delicious!! It gives me that "aaAAaahh" feeling every time. I don't get anything else from here but this. My wife likes their Chai and the Mexican Chocolate. They have an abundant amount of choices of coffees and teas to choose from. The owners are very friendly. My wife and I have been coming here, although not as often as we would like, for years when we lived in the Bay Area. We moved to Las Vegas and whenever we come and visit the Bay, I always make sure that we stop by Rrags. Every time we do visit, the owner always remembers us and asks how everything is with us. Him and his wife are both very nice people and very inviting. If there is any negative comments I have about this place is that they don't always have the chocolate croissant that I like to have with my coffee. Yes, this is a great coffee shop. I gave them a good review before. The coffee is good and strong. They have their own roaster. The desserts are awesome. Right now they have a "Dianna's Delectables" Pumpkin Pie which is simply amazing. Not too sweet, a wonderful pecan topping, and served with whipped cream. It is very refined. The portion is generous. But the most important thing I have to add is that the wifi internet is the fastest I have ever seen in any cafe anywhere. Speedtest gives them eight to ten MBPS. You won't find that in any $tarbux. This is a great family run coffee shop. The espresso is very high quality and very potent. They offer milk alternatives such as almond and soy. They have great pastries as well as egg sandwiches in the morning as well as lunch sandwiches. There's a steady set of regular locals that come here daily for their morning coffee and socialization. However what pushes them to 5 stars is the service. I only drop by 1-2 times per week in my way to work. However I still receive amazing service as if I came in every day. Not only do they know my order, they start making it before I even order it. So on busy mornings when there's a line, by the time I order and pay for my latte, it's being placed on the counter for me. They do have good coffee drinks... BUTT this is about the AMAZINGG chinese chicken salad they have. They have a Chinese Chicken Salad for only 4.95!! Now I love chin chix salads, I probably eat one a day. The dressing they use is just too yummy :) I found out it is made by the owners wife. It is a simple salad, but very good for the money. Try it! I recently discovered Rrags and it quickly became my favorite coffee shop in the Benicia area. It is a nice little place with a good selection of beverages, including a variety of teas. The beverages I've tried were very good. The food is good, too, though not outstanding. But I don't go to cafes for the food. They roast beans right in the middle of the cafe. I suppose this could be a turn off to some, as it can be a bit loud; however, I loved this. It really adds to the atmosphere and provides a very nice aroma while they are roasting the beans. I only found two downsides to Rrags, which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. First, each time I have been in there seems to be a customer or two who are very loud. Of course, the business cannot be responsible for this. Each time it was a business person that seemed to want everyone to know how important he was (not impressive). Its a bit unfair to make down a business by its customers, but it did damper my experience a bit. Second, the wifi is difficult to manage. I have a Mac and was not able to get on the internet with my Mac or my iPhone. You can get a little slip with a username and password that lasts for 3 hours. If you are there longer, they will give you another one. If they had a better system for wifi, I would probably give a 5 star rating even with the annoying customers. I am just not interested in spending time trying to figure out how to use the free wifi at a cafe. read more

Love Rrags!! So far I've tried the Thai Iced Tea (authentic n so yummy), recently I had the "Royal Special" which is a Mexican Mocha with white chocolate and I have to say IT IS AMAZING!!! The flavors in that is so DELISH!!! Not sweetend up n can't taste the actually coffee like the big name guys all over Benicia! I gave 4 stars bc every time I order a tuna sandwich with sprouts I prefer it laid on top of the tuna instead of mixed in the tuna.. This is your typical no frills neighborhood coffee shop which marries a coffee shop with a bagel shop. It does have a huge coffee roaster in the middle of the shop, labeled The San Franciscan. A quick research revealed that The San Franciscan is a line of commercial coffee roasters with capacities to ground coffee beans weighing 1, 6, 25, and 75 pounds. The antique-looking coffee roaster, which is huge, and I presume to be the 75-pound roaster, occupies a good portion of the central part of the shop with black metal grill/fence around, and bags of coffee beans next to it. Tables and chairs in this coffeeshop are wooden brown. Staff are quick and efficient, not particularly friendly; they are more business-like than friendly. You approach the counter, she looks at you and asks, What would you like?, you pay up, and on to the next customer she serves. No small talk, no smiles. There is free wifi and at least ten power outlets for customers to charge their laptops, which makes this a good spot to work off from. read more

I've been coming to Rrags since my high school days when I would pick up a bagel w/cream cheese, chips and a sprite for lunch. I wasn't much of a coffee drinker then, but still loved walking into Rrags and being greeted by pretty much everyone. Rrags is the epitome of a local hangout. On any given morning this is where the locals (who tell the BEST stories) are. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff remembers you and will get orders going for the regulars before they are even at the counter. And if you're not a regular, they make it a point to try and get to know you. Not only is the service and atmosphere awesome, but the coffee, pastries, smoothies, and food are all yummy! If I am in Benicia and in need of a caffeine hit, this is where I go. I think anyone who grew up in Benicia will and should favor this place over SBX. This place has been around for forever. And those of us old enough to remember, this place started out 1/4 of their current size back in the 00's. You can still see the glass pastry case they still use for their yummy goods. At Rrags they really care about their customers and really aim to please with their food, drinks, service, and ambiance. I love the idea of being able to walk into a place and feel like a community. 1 word - Fantasic! Being a long time coffee drinker, I've refined my coffee tastebuds through the likes of Peets, Blue Bottle, Espresso Vivace (Seattle) and many other fine coffee roasters. I have to tell you that I was shocked and amazed when I first tasted the house blend from Rags... Wow! I won't bother trying to describe all of the flavor notes, but I will tell u that it's an amazing roast that you will get hooked on quickly. It's officially our everyday coffee at home. The cutest little cafe ever. The best Lox bagels around literally. The fact that you can come in and order any kind of fresh coffee and you get it in a couple days for pick up is just simply amazing. Every person who works here goes above and beyond with their customer service. I feel welcomed as soon as I step through the front door and that's what really matters. The works making sure the customers feel important. And that is exactly why I keep coming to this little, yet huge place. I'm a fan of this place for a couple of reasons 1) the iced tea was good 2) the smell of the coffee machine roaster in the middle of the cafe was AMAZING 3) the bread the chicken salad sandwich was on was really good and finally 4) the owner was super sweet I didn't have a chance to personally speak with him, but I slyly observed as he chatting with a little girl and her mom. He was just so sweet with her and even gave her a little bag of coffee he was freshly roasting to give to her mom as a sample. This is my coffee go to place in Benicia. I lived in Benicia for 6 years and found this little place. I was also on the Human Service Board for the city and the owner of Raggs was so generous with his donations in support of the city. I'm a Peets coffee drinker and I have to say Raggs rivals Peets. Free wi-fi, outlets for laptops, clean bathroom, and owners are friendly. Also, if I heard correctly, it is a 15 years family owned establishment. The downside is that it closes at 6pm Mon-Sat so it's good if you want to come during the day, leave when it closes to go get dinner, then relocate to a different study spot. The wi-fi tends to connect and disconnect but it's ok for me since I should be studying anyways. Tip: bring headphones. There's seems to be a couple of high school girls that work here and I'd rather not listen to their conversations. Additionally, their coffee is strong and fresh as they roast their coffee in the middle of the cafe. Their sandwiches are of a good proportion if you are trying to be healthy and don't want to overeat. I'd say come support this local cafe over the Starbucks in the same plaza. I've gone to this coffee shop off and on for many, many years, and the service has ALWAYS been hit or miss. I've been there a couple of times a week over the past few months and sadly nothing has changed. One day I get my coffee and bagel in a timely manner, and the next time, three people had received their orders before me so I had to go to the counter to ask where my order was. "Sorry, we will get right to it, and thanks for your patience." Twenty minutes is just ridiculous, and did I have a choice? They simply forgot to make my order! One time recently the owner noticed I had been waiting too long and came over to me to get my order number. Again, they forgot to make it. Why can't they get it together?
