Dianna's Bakery Cafe and Deli transforms itself twice a month for afternoon tea service from 2-4 pm for $30 per person. Reservations can easily be made by texting and prepaying for your party in advance. The pre fixe menu is on par with other quality tea rooms in the Bay Area and beyond. Allergies taken into account when reservations are made. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Guests are spread out and separated by goods for sale (think handmade items, food products, etc.) displayed on shelves and racks throughout the seating area. The service is attentive yet relaxed. The loose leaf tea was perfectly steeped and patrons were given the opportunity to choose another tea selection after the first pot if desired. Honey and cream were also offered upon request. The sandwiches were fresh and flavorful. The petite desserts were perfect. The homemade "clotted cream" was the best that I have had in the area (which is difficult to do here in the U.S.). Butter was also offered upon request. The 2 hour seating was more than ample and I appreciated the time to catch up with my friend. We never felt rushed. My only suggestion would be a more generously sized scone and for the scone to be served warm. I also loved that they came around at the end with a thank you - very thoughtful and unexpected. Unmetered street parking. ADA accessible with single parking spot across the street. Private parties of 10+ guests welcome. 100% will be back! I wanted to try something new and I chose Diana's based on the photos on their site. I thought the Bourbon Bread pudding was delicious. Not too sweet, just right. I chose to warm it up and it's decadent. The pecan bar was great and also not too sweet. Just right. I expected it to be sweetener for some reason. The cannoli was disappointing. It's just not tasty, quite bland. I took one bite and I was done. So I don't personally recommend it. I ordered an Italian cookie but it was substituted by a shortbread cookie which was actually very good, buttery (not pictured). I think it's hit or miss with this place if ordered via online. Our sandwich was good although not what we ordered. We ordered roast beef and provolone on wheat. Right after we ordered, a woman came in with a baby and took a while buying whatever she got. Then our sandwich was ready, but when we got home and opened it, it was on toasted rye. It was still good. I assumed she got distracted by the other customer and forgot what bread we ordered. A bit disappointed since reading most reviews it seemed like it would be a nice experience. We walked in the 'store' side and immediately started gathering interesting items we wanted to try. I picked a small box of 'fudge' and was excited to try. When we got back to our hotel I unwrapped the box and bit into a very dry and crumbly mess. No flavor and seemed old. I've never had crumbly fudge. Somewhat expensive too so paying for something not edible was very disappointing. The bakery side, there was a woman there that didn't seem very customer service oriented. It almost felt like she didn't want us in there. We chose to ignore it since everyone has bad days, we didn't take it personally. We did order a few croissants to go and a couple of breakfast sandwiches to eat there and they were tasty. It was OK ... I don't know if I would come here again though. The coffee unfortunately did not taste good... kind of tasted spicy ( I ordered a vanilla latte )... There's a large selection of foods but maybe a little too much... the items we got were ok, but to be honest, if there would be a Pete's Coffee, I would rather go there, than here. The pastries seemed a little doughy ... The person who was working was perfectly fine and nice though... just seems like this place needs a little reworking/perfecting. Maybe less items and focus on making the core items amazing, rather than offering too many mediocre items. My first time here and I like the size of the bakery. It is divided into two parts: one side with pastries, baked goodies, and food + tea and the other side are products you can buy from a basket of pasta ingredients to peppermint bark. As to the food I ordered, the sandwich was okay. My egg kept sliding and it became a mess (which I dislike) but that's just me. It also had no seasoning but it's a plus for those watching their sodium intake. The Zucchini bread was also a first bite for me and the flavors are there but the bread seemed drier than what I had imagined but at least the slice is thick. The tea was really hot but it was great especially since It was 48 degrees in Benicia. Overall, the service was nice (especially when you're first when it opens) and is a great spot for all your breakfast and brunch desires. Super cute place. I was walking down the street looking for where I could plug in my laptop and do some work and saw Dianna's. I was surprised at the reviews, which I honestly didn't read through since I was here and had ordered already. I only had tea and a treat, but the service was good. The server was very pleasant and helpful. The place was clean and quiet, nice art on the walls. I really like how the dining room is seperate from where you order. Awesome place! We stopped here for lunch after exploring the capital and historical house across the street and were so surprised she had so many vegan and vegetarian options. Coffee and tea as well as pastries and baked goods all made fresh by her. Sandwiches and salads were fresh and delicious we were able to Sid outside with our dog and enjoy everything we bought. Passing through Benicia on a Monday at lunch time we were looking for someplace new to eat (one or two of our normal choices are closed Mondays). We spied Dianna's Bakery on the corner as we were driving past - it was open and serving lunch: perfect! They have a self-serve model: you order in the back - food, drinks, bakery items - and they bring it out to you. There is a decently large seating area in the front of the bakery. They serve breakfast all day, so we ordered a couple quiches: the Bacon Cheese and Pesto Chicken with hashbrowns on the side. My wife ordered a Café Au Lait, and I had to try their Iced Mocha Almond Rocha coffee. The drinks came first and both were quite good, especially mine. They bring out the lunch and you get your own cutlery from a self-serve station in the corner of the dining room. The quiche was excellent, especially the Pesto Chicken. We also had one of their pastries for dessert and it was out of this world - this place can bake! What a gem this Bakery/cafe is! We were searching for cannolis for a Godfather movie night when we discovered Dianna's Bakery cafe and deli. The selection of bakery goods is almost overwhelming. Everything looked amazing but we had ordered 8 Cannoli. We bought a grab and go salad and 2 burgers. The food was lovingly made and tasted fresh and comforting. Last night we had guests and the cannolis were a huge hit! I really wanted to buy some cinnamon rolls so I'll be going back soon! There is also a terrific assortment of other natural goods and a grill that's open from 11am to noon. If you're anywhere near Benicia give this place a try. read more

We ordered two Burrata sandwiches from Dianna's Cafe. The pictures on the menu looked delicious but when we received the sandwiches, the sandwiches didn't look anything like the picture. The bread was different, the taste was bland, no flavor. In order to eat the sandwiches, we had to add condiments, seasonings and green and still couldn't eat the sandwich. The bread was spongy, not good. I also ordered a cinnamon roll for $5, we only received half of the cinnamon roll ?? I definitely will not be returning. After we paid for our order she told my husband she wanted us to wait outside and she would bring us our food. When I heard her say that I immediately wanted to cancel our order. There were people behind us so I didn't. I did however pay attention to her not ask the other customers to wait outside. This women is racist. I've been here a couple of times over the past couple of years and I have mixed feelings. I will say that I WANT to love this place! The marketplace and pantry item selection is fantastic--pastas, sauces, jams, olive oil/vinegar, a small selection of produce, eggs/milk, cheeses etc. Everything is displayed beautifully and it's really quite charming. There's a separate section of house-made items where the register is. And the selection is great there too--but unfortunately it all sounds and looks much better than it tastes. The pastries are completely tasteless and have not been fresh during either of my visits. It seems that many people have given the same feedback over the years. My opinion is that they're just doing too much and need to hone in on what they're great at. If they had their market/pantry items and focused on perfecting a few house-made menu items I feel like it would really help them to stand out, especially on a street with such wonderful competing cafes and bakeries. I would also add that friendly, engaging, welcoming staff is something this establishment could do more with. Taking pride in your business and appreciation for your customers goes a long way in my opinion! I wish they'd consider reviews like this and make a few changes. Yummy yum yum on a cold dreary day. We just moved to Benicia and we're looking for a breakfast spot to kick off the weekend. Got some take out from Dianna's and couldn't be happier. They have them in this glass display and when you see them you just want to have them. We stopped here to get something sweet, so I got the chocolate cupcake. The topping was good but the cake part of it was a little dry. Not moist at all. But, I gave them 4 stars because the staff were super friendly and the place looked so clean. The people were nice, and the food had potential, but there were some serious flaws. - Heard multiple customers complain about wrong orders - Plates were coming out as-ready without sides - Waited over half an hour for eggs and a sandwich - Hot turkey sandwich showed up cold and super sloppy. - Avocado and lettuce were browned - Hashbrowns were burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. - Bread was homemade and quite good, but did not make up for the rest of the quality. The "avocado toast" was literally one piece of toast with avocado and tomato slices so thick you couldn't even pick up the toast due to the weight. The caramalized onion egg sandwich was just an English muffin egg sandwich with some grilled onions on top, and a tiny portion of the stringiest, saddest hash browns I have ever seen. In the hopes of supporting local businesses, my daughter and I tried lunch here for the first time. This place MAY get to a three-star, but will never get to five stars. It's unfortunate. The lack of perspective about the customer experience will keep this at a two or below. We arrived and waited to be acknowledged. We were seated "anywhere we liked" since there was only one other party and they were outside. The plastic table cloths were thinner than a disposable covering you'd use at a kids' birthday party in the park. After another wait, we received our drinks and our order was taken. Wait... the drinks... a Vanilla Italian Soda that looked like it was made with soda, creamer, and flavoring? And the iced tea... how old was it? I chose the "Warm Grilled Chicken" Salad. My daughter had a BLT with fries. After 40 minutes our food came out. My Warm Grilled Chicken over the bed of lettuce was exceptionally tough and dry. They had a decent dill dressing on the salad which I used to moisten the chicken. I would have said something, but our waitress disappeared. I did notice a guy with an apron in the adjoining bakery area adjusting the food, touching his face, wiping his nose, and adjusting the food... No sign of our waitress... I used the salad dressing for the chicken. I ate it all because I was hungry. When the waitress came back and noticed my plate essentially empty, she made a comment about me not liking it at all... Usually that's a funny comment. This time, I had to point out that it was true. Because of dipping blood sugar and the fact that it took 40 minutes for the food to be delivered, I couldn't afford to send it back. I told her that it seemed like they pre-cooked the chicken and then decided to warm it and lay it over lettuce. Doing that only serves to dry it out further. I suggested that if that was the case, they might want to reheat it in some juice/sauce to keep it hydrated and moist. The BLT was good, though. I had a bite of my daughter's sandwich and, though salty, it was good. The waitress took my comments to the owner. I saw them discussing something, including my bill, I assume, in the bakery area. The waitress returned and told me that I was right. That's how they prepared it and that in the future they'll do it differently. I asked the waitress if that was the owner. She said yes, it was Dianna. Ahhhhh Dianna... you had an opportunity to engage with a customer. You had an opportunity to show you cared. You had an opportunity to appreciate that someone was disappointed and to note that it mattered to you. Instead, there was a simple notation on the bill that about $2 had been taken off. That was around 20% of my order. Not off the bill. The salad wasn't taken off the bill. Even a whopping 10% could have been taken off the bill with an apology. Instead, it seemed arbitrary. And again, a huge customer service miss. I wanted to like this place. I believe in second chances, so I'll be back in a few months. It is possible if they show that they still don't care, this place won't exist when I decide to swing back by. Action steps - 1) Focus On The Customer EXPERIENCE - what are we seeing, hearing, tasting... and how do we feel when we come in? 2) Focus on Quality - are you really giving the kind of dish that you're completely proud of? 3) Be brave and talk to your customers. Learn from them. There are a number of one-star reviews... they're not being mean, they're being informational. What can you learn or... does it even matter to you to get better? Maybe a two-star or even a three-star review is your goal. If that's the case, then go for it. read more

It was during the morning time when I decided to Check this place out. I was helped by a Caucasian woman with short black hair, she was possibly in her 50's, and average height. The place had 3 people total when I came in. It was not busy at all. I walk in and smile and there was no "Hello", or "How can I help you?". This woman behind the register just stared at me with no smile, and no words. I still order breakfast and coffee to give this place my business. All I ordered was queche and coffee. Which means the coffee is already made, and the queche just needed to be microwaved. I then seat myself in the dining area. .. After 30 minutes of waiting, I walk to register to see if may be my purchase was just sitting there. NOPE... The woman who took my order was chatting with someone. After standing in front of her and who she was conversing with for over 4 minutes, It was pretty apparent she was ignoring me. I had an appointment in SF in 40 mins and informed her I was now in a rush. She gave me a look like I was rude for interrupting her conversation. It was after that when she threw what I ordered in the microwave. After an additional 15 minutes, she brought out my food. And it was cold. Customer service was awful here. Food served cold. No apologies. Zero consideration for communicated schedules. I can't help but feel discriminated against.
