One of the most genuine mechanics in the area! I don't know much about cars and mine isn't anything special -- just a Honda Insight I try to maintain as best as I can. I actually found Escutia's shop because I live around the corner, but I've known about it since I was younger. A fond memory I have is when I brought my bike there to pump air into my tires, and they did it for free -- no hesitation, just kindness. Fast forward to now, I needed a regular oil change and tire rotation. They gave me a great price, and the owner didn't try to upsell or overcharge me. I also voiced my concern about an AC issue, and he was kind enough to give me an honest advice -- he told me to go directly to Honda. I did, and thanks to his him, Honda fixed it for free! That kind of honesty is rare. He's upfront about what he can do, doesn't waste your time, and runs a very efficient, trustworthy shop. My battery died unexpectedly 8 miles from home, and thankfully, I was near a relative's house who helped me jump-start my car just enough to get it to a shop. At 4:50 PM on a Friday, I called, and a young woman answered the phone with such warmth and honesty. She wasn't sure how much they could do so close to closing, but she was still incredibly friendly and helpful. Had the front and brakes for my Audi done here and didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. A few short weeks later, my oil light came on. Called the night before and was told to be here before 5pm. if I couldn't be here at 9am. Called to let them know I was running a little late on a Friday afternoon at 3:30pm l, go figure (Dumbarton Bridge sucks). They were a bit behind schedule and asked if I could come on Monday. So during the pandemic, one of my vehicles needed service. I have a regular auto repair spot that I've been patronizing over the past 3 years. But since I often need an Uber during these repairs, and not sure how reliable Uber would be under those times, I found another mechanic a little closer to home, in case I needed to walk. Enter Escutia's. Yes, I did get service here. Yes it was a very fair price without any suspicious upsells. Yes, after when the work was performed, all the work seemed correct and solid. So why the just 'ok' rating then? Well it was everything in-between that made it not so smooth, a bit inconveniencing actually. First visit: To inquire for a diagnosis or to make an appointment to do so. Was told to comeback in 5 days because they were loaded with work. Fine, I totally understand, I just want to place my spot in line. 2nd visit: Still busy, just finishing up the initial work from a week ago. Told me to come back the following morning. Ok, will do. So a big factor in all this so far is this place is tiny. Like can only work on 2 cars in their bay and maybe 1-2 outdoors in their front yard. Zero car storage, so if your car can't be serviced that day, they won't try and keep it there, because the neighborhood isn't the safest to keep a car outdoors. 3rd visit: So after work (I get off pretty early in the mornings) I go down and finally was able to get a diagnosis. Pretty simple job, except they have to wait for a part to get delivered. So I leave it there, walk home (2 miles away) and was told it would be ready in about 5 hours. 4th visit: So time to retrieve the car, I call first to make sure the car was ready, since I was walking there. No answer. I risk it anyway and just walk. Thank goodness the car was ready, but now the owner (who I've dealt with the whole time) is no longer there. So it was basically just pay and leave. So for a fairly basic repair, it took me 4 visits and 7 days to resolve this issue. Not something I would want to do again, despite the fair and solid work. I will also confirm that the owner is another asset to the experience here. He is calm, clear and honest. But if you don't get a hold of him, than anything else could happen. The other shop people are not people persons, very brusque and cold. So that's my honest experience here, do what you want with it. read more

I have been a customer of Escutia's Auto Repair since 2021 and they had been doing an excellent job taking care of maintenance and repairs for my 1999 Lexus ES 300 and Toyota Sienna. The owner Gabe is very courteous and professional, and most important of all a very trustworthy and honest mechanics. I can always rely and trust him to take care of my car's problems and he will always take the time to explain the issue and work done. Customers can trust that he only charge for necessary work and at reasonable price. I have had a few fixes done for my old car in the past and has always been happy about my experience every time. Most recently I took the car in for an oil change, and to also diagnoise a gear shift engine stall problem right after cold start in the morning. However as the issue isn't reproducible onsite (since it only happen once during the morning), he had to make an assessment based on experience and expertise. He was kind enough to clean the IAC valve and increased the RPM setting for me (without a charge) to see if that resolve the symptom. And sure enough he was spot on identifying the cause and the car is definitely doing much better now. I am sure other mechanics would have charged the customer for the work done despite not being able to confirm the fix onsite. read more
