Ordered takeout sushi from here the other day and really thought the display of the sushi in the takeout box was efficient and the miso soup I had also ordered was very warm even after a 30 minute traffic drive. Thought that it was nice that I had received more pieces than I thought I would. The only thing I would say takes away a star for this review is the fact that I didn't sit in the restaurant as take away was my first experience with Ru San's. Will reevaluate when I do! Ru Sam's never disappoints! The sushi bar is the focal point when you walk into the restaurant and it wraps around both sides. I'd personally recommend looking at the menu prior to going because they have so many options it's a bit overwhelming. I got three rolls and one of them was suggested by the waitress. This was the perfect amount of food with different flavors in each role. The only reason this is getting a 4/5 is because one of my rolls had soft shell crab and it wasn't good at all. Ru San's is amazing - the sushi was so fresh and flavorful, the service and people were great and the ambiance is perfect for what I would want in a sushi place. Looking at the menu, my only disappointment was that I wasn't going to be able to eat more. I ended up going with: Hamachi Jalapeño Sashimi - love yellowtail so this was a no brainer - delicious just as it is Back Shrimp Killer Roll - a meal in itself and so good. I'd never seen a roll topped with whole baby shrimp but it worked amazingly. Chipotle Roll - perfect amount of spice and taste Rainbow Roll - the best way to try all of their types of fish, could just taste the freshness and probably one of the best Rainbows I've ever had. This is my favorite sushi spot in Charlotte! I loved all of the rolls I got and would get them again. Highly recommend: Gladiator Roll, Summer Mango Roll, Rich & Famous Roll, Salmon & Avocado Roll. I'm pretty picky with my rolls (don't like anything fried, cream cheese, eel or soft-shell crab) but they have so many different rolls to choose from so I'm a happy camper. Doesn't look like it would exceed my expectations from the outside, but the appearance proved me wrong in no time. I came to RuSan's 2 weeks ago on a Monday night after travelling back from a wedding I had attended in my hometown. My fiance and I were exhausted and had no energy to cook something at home so decided to eat a quick meal somewhere. Vegetarian sushi is my go to when it comes to comfort food so RuSan's was the best option for us that night. We arrived about 30 mins before closing but were seated quickly and received our food quickly too. I had ordered one of their signature veggie rolls (can't remember the name) but it had sweet potato, avocado, and cream cheese in the roll. We also ordered an edamame with spicy seasoning on the side. The salt for the edamame came on the side too which I wasn't used to. I prefer it already on the beans so that it soaks in a bit by the time it gets to me. Everything was delicious though & we were stuffed beyond happiness. Definitely recommend for good sushi and apps! And definitely recommend for vegetarians like me! read more

Came here on a recommendation and didn't have a reservation. Called in advance and was told 15-20 min wait for a walk in party of 2 on a Wednesday evening. Unfortunately after waiting 30 Min we decided to order to go. We were told it'd still take another 30 min for them to make the sushi so we said ok. Waited over an hour from when we placed the order to get it. Saw tables who were sat after we placed the order eat and leave while we were waiting. They must put all take out orders at the bottom of the list. Unfortunately lost our business because of this experience and now we are eating sushi in our car. I know everyone's under staffed right now and they seemed slammed, but it's a bad business practice to say something will be ready in 30 min then have us wait over double that amount of time. read more

This might be my favorite sushi restaurant in NC. It is super affordable with great quality fish! This is a popular place, so the wait for a table can be a while. Luckily, We got there before the rush and only waited 15 minutes for a table. Our server was great and attentive. We ordered 2 specialty rolls (both amazing, see pictures), 6 pieces of nigiri, and 2 toro hand rolls (to die for). The server had to ask the sushi chefs if we could get toro hand rolls (likely due to availability and cost), but I am so glad they were able to make it for us. Our total was only $60! I came to Ru Sans once before and got the lunch buffet. It was ok, but not great. Not good enough for me to want to come back. Then some friends told us we were doing it wrong and needed to order off the menu (go figure, buffet sushi isn't the best). We came back with them to give it another try and let them order for us. A few of the rolls I think we got were the Ultimate Tuna Roll, Green Dragon Roll, Atomic Salmon Roll, BBQ Steak Roll. There were definitely a couple more that we got, but since we didn't order, I can't remember what they were. We loved all of them. My favorites were probably the Green Dragon Roll and the Ultimate Tuna Roll. We also got the Curry Rice appetizer which was really good. Overall I think this was some of the best sushi you can get in Charlotte for the price. It was about $20 each and we left stuffed. I've only eaten takeout from Ru San's but the sushi is always fresh and tasty. This place is pretty busy every time I pick up my food so I'd expect a typical wait time if I were dining in. Because of this, I always make sure to call ahead for takeout, about 15-20 min or 40 min for busy weekends. Prices are standard for good sushi and we always love how fresh it tastes. I wouldn't recommend getting anything fried for takeout since we made this mistake and the styrofoam was pretty much melted in multiple spots. I guess that's a sign that the food is always packaged quickly & ahead of the estimated wait. Definitely looking forward to finally dining in one night, hopefully when it's not too busy or crowded. read more

Came here for Friday lunch and we got seated right away. They have some good lunch specials but I had to get the sushi. Highly recommend the twice cooked salmon roll, it's probably one of my all time favorite sushi rolls ever. The cooked sushi on the top of the roll was so crunchy yet tender and it just seemed to melt in my mouth. Also pair it with spicy mayo, so good! The Queen City roll was also great though, love the cream cheese in there. The service was great, wait time for food wasn't too bad, and food quality was amazing. Thankfully yesterday when my friend were in the area and starving - she said, hey, let's go to Ru San's! We shared the pork dumplings and Kiss on Fire Roll. Delicious! Recently, my wife and I joined the bloggers known as Scallion Pancake to a sushi lunch at Ru San's. On their podcast, Scallion Pancake mentioned that they highly recommend Ru San's because they are the best value in Charlotte. Respecting their opinion, we let them choose our rolls. We ordered the Ultimate Tuna Roll, Green Dragon Roll, Atomic Salmon Roll, BBQ Steak Roll, and the Chipotle Roll. All of them were excellent and well worth the price. Update: Okay, so the unapologetically slow service played a significant component in my previous review. For the food itself, I have to give 5-stars. Definitely go with delivery/take-out for this place to avoid a fatal fate. I love how Ru Sans is allergy-friendly, and has yet to mess up my order. I'm pesca-vegan, so I don't do dairy or eggs, and have never received either in my order. Yay for extensive delivery options. I ordered the Shrimp Tempera Roll, Exotic Roll and Miso Soup and it was around $20. The shrimp tempura roll was good- but nothing crazy. I was not a huge fan of the exotic roll. The sauce on it made the shrimp tempura soggy. Other than that, everything was good and pretty reasonably priced for sushi. The restaurant has an industrial look to it, with lots of concrete. Most of the seating are either booths up against one wall and stools at the sushi bar. There were TVs showcasing sports, and the music was of the loud club variety. I think they're trying for a hip atmosphere, but I found it all quite cold and odd. Service was fairly attentive. Food came out a bit slow. The husband and I split the fried brussels sprouts, chirashi bowl, and Girlfriend roll. The brussels sprouts was a pretty large portion. The chirashi bowl is an excellent deal and perfect for sharing if you want to try a variety of sashimi but don't want the gigantic boat. Most of the fish was fresh, but a few items, including the fish roe, were less so. The girlfriend roll was decent. I should've asked to hold off on the eel sauce, which made the roll much sweeter. read more
