This is now our favorite Thai restaurant. The new location looks much nicer. It has been too long since we last visited this place. We went the other night and had: - Soft spring rolls with shrimp - Pad prik king (this has been a "go to" from the first time I tried it) - Pad gra tiem prik thai* * - It's a good thing they have a menu online, because I never would have gotten that right otherwise I don't know what they did in that kitchen that night, but I swear this was the best version of these dishes I have ever had. Every bite was amazing. Not only was it better than what I have had elsewhere, it was better than I had ever had at this place. And I eat a lot of Thai food at a lot of Thai restaurants, because I love Thai food. Papaya salad was probably the best thing that came to our table that day. Their signature duck roll was WEIRD. Like a failed attempt at sprucing up Peking duck. The batter/tortilla/whatever it was they used to wrap the duck was soggy, making the texture of the roll pretty strange. Also ordered pad see ew, which is pretty basic and safe, but was the worst dish we got. All I could taste was soy sauce. Ruang Thai is amazing. The owners are friendly and very attentive. It's a family-run place and a small business. They really know how to please their customers. You will find many regulars here. The food is also great with so many different kinds of spicy curries. It'll take you a while to try all of them, but when you do, it's great to know which curry you're in the mood for on that particular day. The noodle dishes are always fresh and much less greasy compared to other Thai restaurants. They also have delicious entrees with great tasting flavors on all meats and appetizers. We came here a few weeks ago when our first option in the area turned out to be closed. We had been wanting to check out Ruang Thai for some time since it had high reviews on Yelp. We ended up rather disappointed with our meal. Nothing was wrong with it -- we just thought it would be better. We started off with some duck rolls that were nothing really special -- in fact the duck seemed a little dry. Very cute restaurant. Service can be bit slow since it's a married couple who own the place, take orders, and wait on the tables. But they are very accommodating if you are willing to be patient and just get their attention with a hand wave. The food was very good. If you like spicy, they will make it VERY SPICY so be warned. Yum! Yum! Yum!!!! Finally a good Thai place! After spending a few hours at the casino, my sisters and I decided to randomly pick a Thai place on the way down (based on yelp reviews of course ;) Ruang Thai it was! I'm glad we decided to eat here. We were all hungry and ordered a lot of food. We started off with the veggie egg rolls, shrimp in a blanket, and tom yum goong. It's hard to mess up veggie egg rolls and fried shrimp in a blanket, so those were standard and good. The tom yum we all enjoyed, but felt like it could have used a little bit more kaffir lime leave/lemon grass flavor. Still, it was delicious! It had just the right amount of spice to it as well! (we asked for 3 stars on all our dishes) Since we didn't want to overdo it on the entrees, we split 3 entrees. Laab Gai, probably the best laab dish I've ever had at any Thai joint Pad Kee Mao, not greasy, full of flavor as well. Noodles were cooked perfectly! Thai Beef Salad, yum! yum! yum! I was skeptical cause the beef was 'stir fried' and not 'grilled', but it still was one of the best I've had! My only complaint is that the portions were a little on the small side. Still, I'd rather have great tasting food in a smaller portion then a plate full of nasty! I'll def be taking my hubby to come try their food next time! Ruang is a place I want to give 5 stars to badly. The food and service were both excellent when I went for a friend's birthday dinner. However, there is a certain "essence" missing from this place. More on that after we talk about less metaphysical qualities (joking). The food leans heavily traditional with a touch of modern flare. We started with the spring rolls, which seemed a bit dry for my taste. However, the sauce was clearly homemade and brought the rolls to life. For my entree, I ordered the Mussaman curry at 3 out of 5 on the spice-o-rometer. Looking back, I want to suggest to the owners that we change "3" to "Ass-scorchingly spicy." Perhaps I'm a glutton for punishment, though, because I loved every bite of it. The consistency was perfect and the beef cooked perfectly for curry. It's also worth noting their Thai tea is absolutely delicious and worth the price (around $3-3.25). The glass is huge and the ratio of coconut milk is perfect. All in all, I feel this restaurant lacks a certain "uniqueness" that doesn't warrant a 5th star. I found nothing negative, but I feel like there are better options closer to me, taking away that much-needed "fifth star" influence. read more

This is my favorite restaurant! I visit here at least twice per month. Price is fair and I highly recommend their lunch special! Food is good and service is awesome! The best of this restaurant is that I don't feel uncomfortable (thirsty or sleepy) as I always do in other Thai restaurant. They provide many choices for Thai curry. Green curry is good and I would recommend this dish if my friends having no idea which dish they should try first. Sweet reminder: Gang Pah curry is REALLY spicy. Besides curry, their entrees are also great. I tried Pad Bai Ka Pow, Pad Woonsen, and Pad Ta Krai. Spicy or Not-spicy versions of Pad Woonsen are both tasty! Their house spicy sauce is really worth trying. But don't add too much of it. It's not that spicy at first but VERY spicy in the end. (lol) And their Duck Roll (appetizer) is really good! These rolls taste best while they are still hot. Fried Banana and Sticky Rice are delicious! Well, I'd better stop here and leave some surprises for you to discover. :) read more

This is my go-to Thai restaurant in Plano. Their food is really fresh and prepared to your liking. Spice levels are on point, so I usually request one spicy entree and one less spicy, for a balance. The owners are a family run business and very friendly. I like they they offer a variety of Thai dishes that are somewhat unique (mainly seafood) along with traditional entrees. I have yet to have a meal that I didn't like. My favorite entrees so far, are their pad Thai, because the flavors are well balanced and not overly sweet, their larb gai salad, and any of the curries. i am going to go out on a limb and say this is the best thai i have found in the DFW area thus far. it isn't the best i've had, but the best i've had here. the owners are friendly. i give 5 stars for customer service. the food is actually pretty good, too. the lunch specials have a nice variety and are priced well. tom yum is my fave thai soup. i get it whenever i eat thai. i am used to it containing lemongrass, ginger root, cilantro, etc. it just so happened that my lunch meal came with tom yum soup today at ruang thai. although it was a different variation than what I am used to, it was very good. very flavorful. it did not contain lemongrass or ginger root, but it had a great flavor and the portion was appropriate to accompany the lunch dish that i ordered. 4 stars on the soup. i ordered the thai fried rice. i LOVE thai fried rice. i ordered it level 4 out of 5 spicy because i prefer spicy food, especially thai. my only disappointment with this place is that it wasn't spicy at all, although I had ordered it very spicy. the rice was good though. it had a great taste, texture and flavor, it just lacked what i was seeking and that was the level of spiciness. next time i will have to reiterate how spicy i want it before they send my order to the kitchen. so, 4 stars on the dish. the atmosphere is quaint. definitely not fancy, but definitely not a hole in the wall either. the ambiance is calming and comfortable and clean. all of which are appreciated as a consumer. the sodas are canned sodas. i am assuming they don't have a fountain. at least they are decent enough to not bring the can to the table. as a result of the canned soda shenanigans, refills are not free. 1.50 per serving, which i am assuming is a result of it being from a can and not a fountain. i paid $3 for (2) cans of dr. pepper, which was a little nerve-wrecking since i am conservative and since i know i could probably get a 6 pack for the same price. i'm not complaining though. i realize that businesses have to do what they have to do :-) the spring rolls are great too. 5 stars on those as well and on the sweet and sour sauce that accompanies them. i actually can't wait to go back! read more

We were in the area so we decided to check out this place on a rainy afternoon. Because of the rainy cold weather, there were plenty of seats for us. We sat down and we were greeted by several friendly people. A menu was given to each of us and behold, I didn't understand the differences between the majority of the lunch menu. That's a good thing because to me, that sounded legit. Just because I eat a lot of Thai food doesn't mean I am anywhere fully equipped with knowledge about their cuisines. Anyways, I ended up ordering one of their spicy curry dishes with tofu as my meat. It tasted delicious! It wasn't too coconut-y and there was a right amount of tofu/veggies on there. I love spicy food to death. I love it even more when a "4" is actually spicy and not the whimpy-kind-of-spicy. Good thing I did not order a 5 because my tongue would have caught on fire. We also ordered Thai tea and that was very good (as in not too bitter or sweet). Overall, great attentive service with wonderful food! read more

Ruang was very good.....certainly not WRONG. First impression-this place is nice. Like super fancy upper end Thai, tablecloths, fancy plates and all. This is a nice spot for a first date, anniversary or reunion...not to grub down and fill up at the trough. Beautiful interior even! The duck roll appetizer was flippin' amazing. Crispy, toasty, yummmmyyumms yum. The food was delish--wife had Panang (3 out of 5 heat) and she is still cooking on the inside the next day. It was very tastey! I had the Thai basil fried chicken stuff. It was delightful--crispy and served with rice. Kinda straight forward-no sauce or anything, so I ordered some steamed veggies too. All very good, clean, well executed. I would give it five stars.....except the HIGH prices and the SMALLLLLLLLLL portions. I say this being a tubby Texan, but damn....I left hungry. $48 bucks after tip. Again-this would have been fine, but I just needed fuel before going out for cocktails. I'm not a cheap ass, but don't normally go high roller. Was it worth it? Maybe..I'm not sure though. Did we receive great service? Heck yes. Was the food great? Yes! Was I full or satisfied when I left...sadly NO. It's BYOB so maybe a beer would have helped. Magnificent food! Beware of the spice levels if you are faint of heart. Green curry is on the soupier side, but the flavor is delightful. Pad Se Ew is prepared perfectly. Gai grob horapa is pretty spectacular. Customer service was amazing. I will mention that it was nearly empty so they gave us tremendous and personal attention. Didn't know this place even existed thanks to my wonderful guy who has discovered this place. We ordered the duck rolls as appetizer which was delicious, the bread rolled around the duck was chewy and soft, and the shallot hidden inside was a wonderful surprise. We got the papaya salad with the salt crab flavor, the pad eew mao with chicken, and this dish that almost looked like fried chicken with fried basil and fresh basil leaves (Sorry couldn't remember the name). The fried chicken was supposed to be the least spiciest, but after tasting the papaya salad, it has set the tone of spicy-ness. Therefore it made the fried chicken spicier than what it is supposed to be lol. The venue was heavily decorated with Buddha statues and vintage pictures of relatives of the owners I believe. The decor helped to hide any potential looking tacky furnitures. All in all it was a great experience and do not mind coming back. read more

The only thing that made me kind of mad was that it was closed on July 5th randomly so just make sure the place is open before you come here. Went here last Friday with a girl that can handle spices, well at least we thought so. We got the 4 spice level and had one curry (pork & shrimp) and she ordered the rice noodle with chicken. I really think the Thai food at this place is pretty comparable to what I get in a decent quality restaurant in Thailand. They put a little too much vegetables for me and would have preferred more protein but otherwise the flavors were spot on. I will definitely come back. It is close, reasonably priced and the flavors and quality are very authentic, especially for Plano or Dallas where authenticity can be hard to find. read more

This is our "go to" Thai place. We've tried a few others over the last 4 years n this one is the Best By Far! The duck rolls are amazing, we get them EVERY time! We've tried many different dishes and the food is always fresh, perfectly spiced and delicious. The service is great! The owner, very sweet lady, gives us fresh bird peppers, sliced Thai peppers & minced Thai peppers w/garlic to go with our meals. She's always friendly, accommodating and happy to see us. It's nice to be treated as a valued customer! Our food always comes out quickly and the entire restaurant is VERY clean! They also consistently have one of the cleanest ladies rooms of all the Plano restaurants we've been too. read more

It's a little more expensive than other Thai food in North Dallas, but that doesn't mean you're getting more or better food than anywhere else. The appetizers were good, although paying $6.50 for 3 eggrolls is aggravating in its own way, alongside similarly overpriced fried tofu. Took about 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive, and it sure wasn't worth the wait. Disgusting watered down curry and average pad thai, with a miserable serving size for $13 bistro food. Aside from the prepostrous wait times, they never refilled water or brought us the check. Certainly it was a bit busy (a little over half the tables filled) that day, but failing at everything that makes a restaurant, with no redeeming qualities, is absolutely inexcusible. read more
