Half a mile or so South of the Christ statue is Ruben's. Three of us arrived around 4pm for an early dinner. After a couple of margaritas and small talk we ordered. I ordered the surf and turf. With chicken. My mom ordered the cheese enchiladas with sides of rice and beans. Now usually I won't comment on the beans, but the cup of refríes beans were hot, Fresh, and tasted homemade! Juan the waiter was attentive and polite. After bringing our drinks, he didn't hurry us too order. Which we appreciated. We've been to Ruben's several times. This was our first time at the new location which is beautiful and very clean. You can tell they care and are very invested. Even the bathrooms are very nice. The service is great. Very attentive wait staff, they certainly don't rush you. We were there for breakfast. Our group has eggs Benedict, juevos rancheros and the machaca. All of them were very good! The homemade tortillas are incredible!! They are serving steaming hot and fresh. The salsa, chips and pick are delicious as well. 4 entree's, Bloody Mary, coke and 2 coffees was about $30 total US. We will definitely be back and excited to see what else they are working on as they are still improving on this location. read more

any restaurant with mediocre food must do all they can to have their hospitality be at it's best. up to being taken to ruben's restaurant, hopitality from a street taco shop to fine dining has been excellent. one of the charms of mexico is not being rushed to eat your food and mentioning if you are done eating that there are others waiting to be seated. mind you, ruben's is a buffet, all you can eat, bottomless mimosas. as we were finishing and with us just receiving another round of mimosas, bottomless mind you, the owner came to us asking us if we were done as there were other guests waiting. we were appalled by the owner telling there are other guests waiting to eat when we were only there 35 - 40 minutes!! i saw nothing posted stating, there was a time limit on their buffet and their "bottomless" mimosas. it doesn't get better. when i made the comment that i've never had this happen to me in mexico, he went to the owner and kindly asked if he would step aside away from the other guests to speak with him. the owher said you can say whatever you want right where we are at. as my frined began to kindly explain how embarassed he was by his comment, the owner's voice escaluated. the owner motioned to grab my friend's arm. at this time, both voices escaluated to the other guests hearing them. as my friend was leaving, one of hte guests told my friend he was right and that she has seen the owner behave like this to other guests. why would anyone witnessing this would want to ever go back to a meiocre restaurant with an owner treating their guests like this? for those people that value yelp reviews, i can assure you, i will not ever go to ruben's restaurant at: carretera libre tijuana-ensenada km 43.5 camino vecinal el pescador, 22711 primo tapia, b.c., mexico. i encourage anyone having similar issues to write a review of this place! btw. the servers and staff were fine to us. read more

Ruben is a hard working, honest business owner and always makes you feel welcome. I initial started conning for brunch at his previous location. They are very generous with the champagne! While here on vacation we had the good fortune to meet Ruben himself who was very friendly and helpful. We sat outside and met some of the friendly local stray dogs....very cute. Coconut shrimp was awesome and it seemed every dish we ordered was creative and well cooked. Ruben recommended a fishing trip to us and kindly set it up for us as well, after our trip for a little money we brought him our fresh caught fish and he made fresh ceviche for us as we waited in the bar area drinking beers. I went with family on Saturday, April 7 and it was a disaster. After ordering food and waiting 20 minutes I was told they were out of the steak ( ribeye) I ordered. Infact they were out of all steaks except one. So I got the one they had. 10 minutes after that the waiter brought us wrong salad cause they were out of the one we ordered. We decided to get soup instead. 10 minutes longer waiting for soup, waiter said " be careful it's hot". Instead of hot the soup was COLD. So cold the cheese would not melt. When the dinner arrived, my steak " well done" was " rare". Everyone at the tables food was uncooked including fried fish. To make things even worse, I am allergic to shrimp. I ordered a steak and started to have an allergic reaction as if I had eaten shrimp. I am sure somewhere in the kitchen my steak was cross contaminated with shrimp. The waiter realized at the end of our meal he forgot to bring one meal and brought it when we were leaving and disgusted. And yes we were charged for it. We complained to manager and he apologized with dessert and 10% off meal. We could not stay to enjoy dessert because I needed to find a pharmacy for Benadryl. The meals not cooked should have been refunded completely. The meal he forgot about he should have just kept it and taken off bill. If waiter checked on table he would have realized a meal was missing. Then the cashier wanted to charge additional for using credit card for this disaster of a meal. We will never return to this restaurant and will be an advocate to keep our family and friends away. Shortly after arriving home we all were in bathroom. The night was horrible and that's putting it lightly. My best advice and summary of review? STAY AWAY!!! read more

My friend never received his meal! So three in our party of four ate, and the fourth had to come home to heat up leftovers. That was a big bummer. He ordered the beef, shrimp, and chicken skewers and the waiter brought a plate of mixed beef, shrimp and onion stew -- no skewers. We asked what the dish was and they said it was the fajitas (although it didn't look like any fajitas I have ever had). We sent it back and then waited... and waited... and waited. The rest of us finished our meals and were still waiting. We ordered a new round of drinks, asked about the skewers, and waited. Finally, my friend walked up to the kitchen to see the orders up. They said it would be ready "soon." We didn't wait any longer -- we paid the bill and left. There were only three other tables filled and some people at the bar. It wasn't busy. No one ever came to ask us if we wanted more drinks -- we had to waive them down. I'm not planning to return and I don't recommend that you go here. Went to Rubens for my birthday. 4 people in our party had the best ceasar salad prepared at the table. We all agreed it was the best we had ever had I had the flank steak served with fresh vegetables. The serving was substantial and prepared to my order. The meat was tender and juicy. One of us had the BBC ribs. Very tender an well prepared. A chili relleno was also ordered and was very good. The salsa was excellent. A little bite and fresh I would definitely recommend this new and modern restaurant with an excellent and courteous wait staff. read more

TOURIST TRAP! Our driver took us here when we wanted to see the fight and we knew right away that it was a tourist trap as everyone there were tourists. Drinks were over priced from the regular prices we had been spending and the liquor was watered down. Had dinner last night. The stuffed shrimp was the best we have ever had. Four adults and our 8 year old had the fresh catch halibut, the stuffed shrimp, oysters rockafeller, all wonderful. Even the kids meal of chicken fingers was real food. So we decided to go,back and try the breakfast buffet. Our visitors wanted to see the ocean so The owner Ruben had the staff set us up on the future dining area on the roof. He had the staff set up our table and chairs, and even had the concrete floor mopped! The brunch buffet was an excellent assortment of Mexican dishes. I was surprised and the assortment and the fresh taste even though they were served on a buffet. Staff checked on us regularly, even though they haven't had to serve that area yet. We were well pleased both Saturday evening and Sunday brunch. read more

we have been loyal customers for 20 years. Tonight was an insult and we wont be back. If you are having a private event YOU NEED TO CLOSE THE RESTAURANT. If you advertise happy hour drinks you cant expect people to know if the wine is poured from a jug or a bottle to get the discount. We sat in the bar because we wanted a more casual experience (and to watch the UFC fight), but they had the same menu there. We ordered the cowboy steaks (ribeye) which were delicious and cooked perfectly medium rare. I had the black bean soup which was really flavorful but not very hot - just warm. Overall, the rest of the food was hot, fresh, and the steamed vegetables were not overcooked but tasty and firm. Came here for my birthday dinner. Food and drinks take forever to come. My boyfriend ordered lobster and it was undercooked in the middle. We sent the plate back twice and it still came back undercook. There were six of us ordering food and lots of drink from them. They charged us for the lobster anyway which they shouldn't. It was never edible. When my friends wanted to speak to the manager there was none and the waiters accused my friends of trying to start a fight. By the way we are middle age group of professionals. I did not want to cause a scene on my birthday so we paid FULL PRICE for the bill. In their defense they did brought out a small SHORT glass of margarita on ice to make up for the lobster plate. Once we got the food...... after waiting a good hour after ordering..... My filet was very good. Mine was the only meal that came as ordered and will executed. The service was bad and they weren't busy so there wasn't much of an excuse that makes sense. I doubt we'll come back. We were a party of 11 with 3 kids. My girlfriend had a salad and lobster bisque which were both very tasty. My only grievance was how long it took to get our food - maybe 30 minutes. This is in our opinion the best restaurant to eat at in Puerto Nuevo. The setting is clean and the staff are all courteous and accommodating. The Ceasars Salad which is prepared fresh at your table is outstanding. I am a lobster bisque fan and Ruben's makes the best that I have ever tasted. It is more like a large lobster bisque pot pie with a delicious crust on top. The menu ranged mainly from steaks to seafood at very reasonable prices. My wife had a ribeye steak cooked to perfection that she said was the best she ever had. I had the Vera Cruz filet of fish that was moist and flakey with each bite. We were so pleased with the meal and the service that we wanted to come back the next day (Sunday) for brunch but it was already completely full and no tables were available. We highly recommend eating at Ruben's whenever you are in or near Puerto Nuevo. read more
