Im not exactly sure what's going on with this Rubios but genuinely some of the worst food I've had in a while. I got a double protein bowl and the rice was severely undercooked and the avocado was inedible because it was so hard. When I let the store know they said they could replace the slices of avocado but they would also be hard for the replacement, I was pretty shocked they knew the avocado slices were already hard and were still willingly putting them on customer's plates. The restaurant made me a new bowl of citrus rice which was equally crunchy and hard as the first so I think it's safe to say the rice was just cooked poorly. I ended up throwing both servings of rice into the garbage with only a nibble eaten of each because it was just some of the worst rice I've ever had. I was super bummed. I really wanted to come enjoy the ambience of La Jolla here because the outdoor seats are really pretty with the skyline and rocks around but I was so disappointed I have to admit that I am going to skip this Rubios and opt for another. I go to several Rubios in San Diego and this definitely had the worst food by far. I will definitely go to a more reliable location next time read more

Rubio's is always solid and consistent, and this La Jolla spot near the hospital is no exception. My go-to is the two fish taco plate which is simple, fresh, and always good. We grabbed a couple of beers too, and I've gotta say the chipotle salsa here is the best part of the salsa bar. On the flip side, I'm not a fan of the bathroom setup (though it was clean), and the parking lot is kind of a nightmare. I've been going to Rubio's since I attended SDSU, when they used to actually dip the fish in batter in the restaurant before frying it. I used to love how the fish would come out in all these crazy shapes thanks to the batter solidifying in the oil at odd times... those days are gone. The food now is OK, it hits the spot when you "need it." but man, this particular location needs Rubio's HQ to help out! They are constantly busy, which is why HQ probably kept it open while it shut down 50+ other locations in Cali. But the kitchen is tiny, preparers look beat, and the pickup shelf is open for anyone to take someone else's order (on the account of the counter person being slammed). That's what supposedly happened to my order, even though the Rubio's app said the order was "in progress" 20 minutes after the promised time. The person in charge never found my order so she had the preparers make another order: 2x salmon tacos and 1 fish taco especial. Now about 35 minutes after the promised time I walk out with my order and drive home. I down the two salmon tacos with green sauce... so good. Then I get to my fish taco especial... and something is missing... there's no guacamole or cheese. It's a regular fish taco. Out of principle, I had to take/drive it back and if you know the parking lot this Rubio's is at, it's a royal pain to park. I mean REALLY bad around mealtimes and after work thanks to Whole Foods. I get back to the restaurant and I see the two mgrs that helped/apologized to me 20 min ago in front having a meeting with some higher ups. One caught my eye and said he'd be right in. I showed him the taco vs. my order. He took it back and gave me 3 coupons for any taco on the menu for free in a future visit. Then he came back with two fresh fish taco especials. Guess I cannot complain too much. (But messing up orders and giving away free "make goods" often will not help a bankrupt company such as Rubio's). One of the best things about Rubio's that the pandemic took away is the salsa bar. Well, the salsa bar at this location is back!!! It was actually pretty exciting to see that. Honestly, a salsa bar makes almost anything taste better. The portion sizes seem larger than before the pandemic too, which is nice. I ordered a California chicken burrito. It was pretty good but it also made me remember why I rarely eat Rubios - the food is incredibly salty, so is the salsa. My burrito had 2,400 mg of sodium, more than the daily recommended intake. I only ate a third of it and still felt like I just swallowed a bunch of saltwater in the ocean. Honestly the burrito would have tasted better if it weren't so salty. Please take note Rubios: you don't need to use all that sodium to make your food taste good. read more

Food is served fast and the atmosphere is spacious with an outdoor seating and a self serve area with different salsa choices. As for the food, I had the Atlantic Salmon Burrito, Cilantro Lime Quinoa Bowl, and the Mexican Street Corn with Tortilla Chips. I've been to this Rubio's off and on for years but due to the coronavirus pandemic I've not been to La Jolla for 18 months. Today we needed a quick bite on the way to Oceanside that was right off the freeway and Rubio's sounded great with plenty of parking on the weekends. We used the app on the way here. The good was ready just a little after we arrived. I did decide to order a small Mexican street corn and a drink to go with our fish tacos. The young man that took my order was very welcoming and helpful. The fish tacos are tasty and crisp. The sides are exactly what we wanted. Delicious as expected. I got the Mexican street corn bowl and it was prepared exactly how I ordered and tasted great. I actually had a coupon since I signed up for the rewards program, so I would recommend signing up if you frequent Rubio's often. Rubios's is one of my favorite places to grab a quick meal but for some unknown reason, this location takes the longest to fill our order even when there is hardly anyone there. We have been here a few times and each time, the wait time to get our food seems longer than at other locations. And most of the time the food is decent. The carne asada steak, sour cream, lettuce, guac and french fries filling, in a soft-tortilla wrap were hearty and filling and a treat to my taste buds! The steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful. There's a good amount of outdoor seating here. My one grievance is the indoor ordering and pickup area is a bit tight, I wanted to back out of the line at one point but there was no space for it. My last day in town before I leave to Greece, decided to stop by my favorite spot , Rubios. I ordered chips and guacamole, like I usually do. To my horror , this is what I open the box to, a plethora of broken down tortilla chips, and not to mention the guacamole was very salty. Tasted like you swallowed some seawater type salty. They also withdrew the taquitos from their menu, once I told my daughter she broke down, as it is her favorite thing on the menu. Rubio's need to get it together asap, the customers deserve better.
