I love Rubio's. I go at least once a week so I spend quite a bit of $$ in various locations. This is by far the WORST one I been to! Every time I go, something is messed up or missing! Tonight I ordered the nachos, with shrimp & rice instead of beans... i ordered ahead of time, said the wait would be 10 mins. I go to Walmart real quick, totaling about 15 mins and go grab my food. I get there and still had to wait at least 10 mins before getting my food. I ordered a side of Chipotle White Sauce, that they charged me EXTRA for and only filled halfway. I finally get home and open my box, (mind you I live 3 mins away, literally) & couldn't do anything but shake my head in disappointment. I was starvingggg and excited for these! They're one of my fave/go-to items. And I was completely disappointed I didn't even want to eat. They were so sloppy, COLD & stale. There was NO rice on my nachos like I ordered. I worked a full day and was too tired to take them back, otherwise I would've. I didn't even want them. The shrimp was burnt!! Over cooked!!! And only about 4 on the entire thing. Half the guac & sour cream wasn't even on the nachos!! But in the paper they put the nachos on.... they were stale chips and seemed like they had been sitting there, tho they said they weren't ready yet... I am sooo annoyed I wasted money here. And the workers open the food to double check and they thought that looked like something someone would wanna eat???????? I could've spent my money somewhere else with a better meal. read more

The Grossmont Center Rubio's is my favorite, although admittedly, I have not visited every location in the county (And have no plans to do so!). The restaurant was exceptionally clean, about half its capacity occupied by happy diners. My wife and I ordered almost immediately after entering. Nachos and a fish taco today. Both items were up to Rubio's high standards, and both were delicious. The salsa bar is one of the best in town. The food was delivered to our table. The generous portion of nachos was served on wax paper, backed by a hard plate, and metal silverware was provided. Personally, I don't miss plastic plates and utensils one bit. They are still available for To Go orders, of course. This location give its diners a spectacular view: The parking lot. No problem, I was ogling my nachos, anyway. Fortunately, dogs are limited to the smallish outdoor patio area. It was a good, satisfying lunch, with two soft drinks, costing about $13. I'm a fan. read more

Yikes, worst customer service ever. Stood in line while the cashier ignored us working on a previous transaction. No acknowledgement, no "be with in a sec." And after she finishes up the receipt from the order she runs outside. If the register messed up I get it, but at least be courteous to your other customers. Wow, I've eaten at a lot of Rubio's but I've never eaten at a bad one until now. This one looks old and uncared for. It needs to be cleaned, painted, and updated. My dinner looked like it was thrown together in under 60 seconds (mainly because it was!) and both the shrimp and the guacamole on my entree were old. What a disappointment! Two stars bc I still enjoyed my salad but deduction due to it was made incorrectly and I had to drive back 15 minutes to get it corrected. The people working were very nonchalant about the inconvenience when I called and only said "oh ok are you able to come back? .... ok see you then." I received no apology. ordered 2 impossible grilled tacos online to pick up. got home and opened my order to only to find bacon wrapped all over my, what should be, VEGETARIAN tacos. it should be obvious not to add meat to a meat free taco i called and got a refund and tried telling them to talk to their cooks that this is a horrible mix up to have happening and was pretty much brushed off as saying it doesn't normally happen and that they're sorry. at least i got my money back. so warning to any vegetarians or vegans looking to try the new impossible meat at rubios- please double and triple check your food before you start eating, i almost didn't notice the bacon mistaking it for chilis/peppers. read more

I am a loyal Rubios customer at other locations. At the Grossmont Center store today, I had the worst overall restaurant experience in as far back as I can remember. The beer battered fish tacos and beer battered fish burrito all contained overcooked/burnt/hard fish and were completely inedible. And to top it off, I ordered and paid for an extra side of beans (on the receipt) but it wasn't included in my to-go order and I did not notice until I was home. Ordered lunch for our office online, website said it would take approximately 30 min for them to deliver food. Our office is right across the street, and it took them 1 hour to deliver the food. Once food was delivered we realized that the food was not fresh. It was cold and guacamole was literally black !!!! We called them and spoke to manager. She literally argued with our Doctor in the phone for over 5 minutes about how the food is made fresh, and that we were wrong about it!!!!! Terrible customer service, and terrible food ! read more

Was disappointed with my meal. Shrimp was way overcooked- almost burnt and had very fishy smell. After We ate one piece we decided it would be smarter to stop- so there goes that. Rice was way to crunchy- probably the bottom of the tray. Also had Cali burrito, What should be seasoned regular fries looked like steak fries- my guess is they ran out and went to a local shop to buy whatever they had, but we the customer suffer when you make changes like that- prefer you would just say it is not available rather than make me spend $10 to have to open my burrito and pull out fries and eat what became a quesadilla. Well here I am again...disappointed and writing another review on Yelp. I think about the life decisions that have led me to this review and I can't say I have any regrets besides ordering from here. I came to Rubios after wanting some Mexican spice for the evening. It was between this and Taco Bell and last time, it gave me the runs...if you catch my drift so I decided to go with the latter. I ordered a fish taco, 2 shrimp tacos, and 4 chicken quesadillas. I waited and played some sudoku, brushed up on my Spanish on Duolingo, and played Thumb Wars with myself while waiting for my Mexican cuisine. Finally I get my "comida", and it's completely wrong! 1 chicken quesadilla 3 regular quesadillas and 3 other regular tacos. I almost got so distraught I wanted to shit myself. Why.Must.This.Always.Happen.To.Me. So before losing my "caca", I walked in and explained to the workers that my order was wrong. They apologized and took my order back to fix it. No harm done right? I get my food back and check and the quesadillas that were wrong were just clearly opened and stuffed with burnt chicken. I understand it's fast food but this quality is just plain rude! Burnt chicken with my "queso" is NO BUENO! My heart is broken and my trust is no longer there for Rubios. It had been so long since I had eaten at a Rubio's. It took me a minute to make up my mind. Once I ordered and took my first bite I actually said out loud, why don't I come here more often? The food is so fresh and light tasting, the fresh salsa bar a huge plus. I ordered the fish burrito and the flavors blend together so well, it is almost as good as eating the fish tacos from my favorite Abuelita in San Felipe. The menu has evolved quite a bit and I was really happy to see some gourmet and vegetarian items on it. I usually love Rubio's. Been going for years. I ordered a salad with extras making it over $12. But it was dry...I needed more ranch. They said that that was the amount they give and I'd have to pay for more. Seriously??? They offered me 1oz. But that was not gonna be enough. Was another .46 cents (if that) not worth it to make your salad palatable to your customer. Little own the rude service. I've never ever not been given more dressing on a salad when needed. I was discriminated against and my civil rights were violated yesterday, 2/2/22, at 4:30 pm. Against California Dept. of Public Health guidelines about mask exemptions (https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/guidance-for-face-coverings.aspx), I was denied service for not wearing a mask. I clearly said "I am exempt" and was told by all three women at the counter that they would not take my order. I informed them that they were breaking the law by enforcing an unlawful mandate and they said they were just doing their jobs. I told them that that excuse would not hold up in a court of law. I repeated the statement that they were breaking the law and they said that it was their store policy. A store policy cannot usurp State and Federal Law. See CA Civil Code 51, US Title II and Title III of Civil Rights Act of 1964, CA Business and Professions Code § 16721, practicing medicine without a license by requiring masks: CA Penal Code § 2052, false imprisonment: Penal Code § 236PC, and others. According to Black's Law Dictionary, "three things are necessary to create a mandate. First, that there should exist something which should be the matter of the contract; secondly, that it should be done gratuitously; and thirdly, that the parties should voluntarily intend to enter into the contract." A mandate is not a law and, therefore, not enforceable without the consent of both parties. I do not consent, therefore there is no mandate. My friend and I ended up walking two doors down to Panda Express, were greeted warmly by the staff, and enjoyed a nice meal. I encourage customers to boycott any business that enforces these draconian mandates. When we stop consenting, these mandates will end. read more

The Rubios in Rancho San Diego is much better (except that one no longer serves the Green Tea or Stevia which I loved--if it did, I'd go there more often). The Rubios in Grossmont served up a COLD chicken bowl with rice. Inedible, threw it away so I wouldn't get sick. Most of the Rubios in San Diego are great, but I'd avoid the one in Grossmont. read more

Went to Rubio's for a family dinner while we were down visiting family. We had been here before for the infamous taco Tuesday dinner. We we're horribly disappointed with the cleanliness inside the restaurant. There was food and napkins all over the floor, the salsa bar had salsa and napkins stuck all over it and the trash was overflowing. For a "Taco Tuesday" we've seen it MUCH busier and MUCH cleaner. All of the workers were young and standing around chatting behind the register instead of cleaning anything up. We had to wipe down our own table, and then one of us had to use the restroom. The bathroom was beyond disgusting. When our food came we had a small black hair on one of our taco plates. There were other customeds also complaining and asking for a refund over poor quality over cooked food, and lack of service/cleanliness. Very disappointed & will not return. This Rubio's location is the convenient to my house, it is located in the Grossmont Center. They have a patio facing the street (so you can people watch) and are able to bring your dog to lunch/dinner. The service is always outstanding when I come here and the establishment is always clean! I went here today for lunch and the food is super yummy. You get a lot for what you pay for. I got an Enchilada and a Fish Taco with the sides of black beans, rice, and chips all for $6.39. The meal was so big, it was like a meal for two. The interior of the restaurant is also really beautiful, as if one was in Mexico, which is always a plus. They have great fried fish fillets, and for the non-seafood lovers their Chicken/Carne Burrito Especial hit the spot. Classics like the fish taco and the fish burrito have some great flavor topped off by a yummy special sauce. They fry their fish to perfection. It's crisp, flaky and melts in your mouth every time. They also have an excellent salsa bar which includes mild, verde, chipotle, and picante hot sauce. Also diced onions and cilantro, jalapenos, and limes are available. Their salsa is so good I sometimes drink it. For some reason every time I get a gift card to this place I jump up and down like a little kid. I do wish they found a way to streamline their menu and lower prices. We're in a recession. We all can't come to Rubios on Tuesdays, nah mean? read more
