Visited this spot while driving back from the desert around 9:00pm on Saturday March 18, 2017. We were greeted by a male employee who took our order in a professional, polite, friendly, and enthusiastic manner. He was receptive and knowledgable about the dietary limitations we had about dairy, informed us of the ingredients and choices we had and made the appropriate adjustments. He was also very attentive. He noticed I was using multiple small cups to collect salsa and offered me the bigger size salsa cups. When he brought us our food at the table he was genuinely smiling and it put us in a great mood. Another employee who took our dishes away was also very polite, efficient, and smiley. Both of us were so pleased and surprised at the excellent customer service at this Rubio's branch. Be very careful if you decide to eat here. A year ago my Mother and her husband were in town and wanted to get something to eat on our way home from my daughters softball game. I could not stop going on to my mom about how good and fresh Rubio's is and that she would love it too. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with no sauce with side of lettuce and tomatoes. After receiving my food I started to eat thinking this will be another great burrito like all the other Rubio's locations I have eaten at. I was half way through my burrito and bit down on something hard and I spit it out and it was an acrylic nail it was so disgusting. I wanted to vomit immediately I was in shock. My family quit eating their food right away and I went up to the lady working and showed her and said that she should get rid of the whole batch of beans and she said yes we are right now. Right!! I make homemade beans and know how long it takes to make beans it's not instant. My mom asked for the managers phone number and they gave her the owners phone number which we left multiple messages on the voicemail not once did we receive a call back. I will never go back to this location and would not recommend going to it either. Rubio's is "famous" for their fish tacos. I admit I've been a bit skeptical about the whole idea of "fish tacos", despite the obvious double entendre there. But today, the wife and I were hungry for something a little different and we were poking around downtown Redlands and then realized something that clenched our decision. And I tried their 3 Fish Tacos lunch special. Lightly breaded Alaskan Pollock with shredded lettuce and their white sauce and one lime wedge for each one on a warm flour tortilla.. Mmmmmmm they were good! Couple that with some warm tortilla chips and their salsa bar and we were set. The fish tacos were actually very good, and the wifey liked the Enchiladas. (A quick note before starting this review- the "fish tacos" mentioned in the following review are indeed in reference only to FOOD despite the double entendre these words invoke....now pick up your mind from the gutter and proceed.) Rubios, synonymous for fish tacos, has staked its claim here in Redlands for some time now and does not seem to be showing any signs of losing momentum. They offer up their famous fish tacos along w/ a bevy of other Mexican food such as burritos, tacos, and the like offered up in different variations. I have watched this location grow in patronage over the years and the local Chipotle across the way does not seem to do it any harm. The restaurant is decently sized and staff is pleasant and courteous. I've tried the fish tacos here and they are fantastic. The cabbage, the sauce- it all compliments the fish w/ the slightly crisp exterior. The shrimp and Mahi Mahi tacos are tasty as well, but the classic fish version is still my favorite. Carne asada burrito is quite good, but I prefer the shrimp burrito the best. Churros are tasty as well and are always welcomed as a nice epilogue to a meal. The salsa bar is always clean and refreshed promptly and the restaurant has never been left unclean or appeared dirty any time I have visited. The salsa bar contains limes, lemons, onions and cilantro in addition to their salsas: MILD- a basic, light red sauce. For the average folk VERDE- a basic green salsa CHIPOTLE- my personal favorite, a richer, thicker, darker, more flavorful version of their mild sauce JALAPENO CITRUS- a new addition, this green sauce is probably my second favorite. It has some good citrus zest notes coupled w/ a tad of spicy flavor DIABLO- another new addition, this thick red sauce is pretty much just hot for the sake of being hot. It has a decent flavor and is not very "extreme"...mostly seems like its there for show. Little things I like- *Their Fish Taco Tuesdays. Come in on Tuesday after 2pm (I believe) for their original fish tacos (flour or corn tortilla) priced at only $1.50 (I remember back in the day when they were a dollar...then a buck and a quarter...such is economic "progress".) *On the bottom of every receipt (that I have gotten) they invite u to take their survey and they'll reward ur hard work and feedback on ur next visit w/ a free large beverage *Speaking of beverages, this is the only restaurant so far I have ever seen that offers Vanilla Coke at the soda fountain. That ALONE gets them some b-b-bonus points in my book *Sign up for their "Beach Club" email list and you'll receive news, offers, invites to special tastings of new menu items, and a coupon for a free meal on ur birthday. Best of all is u don't have to print out their emails to receive the discounts, simply show the cashier the screen off ur mobile device when ordering Little things I don't like as much- *They pulled the Choco Tacos off the dessert menu :( *Once I was shorted a few bucks back in my change *They can get pretty busy (especially on Tue nights) and wait times can b longer and bothersome For me, Rubio's shining positives greatly outweigh the minor inconveniences. I have been going to this Rubio's for many years and have always found it to be a good experience. I must admit that I miss their big aquariums with the exotic fish. Most recently I came to one of their Original Fish Taco Tuesday for $1.50 after 2:30p.m. I loved their Original Fish Taco for many reasons. The ingredients are fresh, the fish was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside; their special sauce was sour enough, and the cabbage was finely chopped yet crunchy. Kaitlyn deserves some recognition. It was such a nice welcome to Rubio's (for our first time ). We went ahead and ordered California bowls with shrimp which were delicious ! Kaitlyn was also so sweet when I asked her if they could remake my brothers bowl bc he doesn't eat veggies and there was lettuce in it (too much for me to pick out). Mhhhmmm I absolutely love this place. I am currently a college student attending chico state up north and the Mexican food is no bueno. When I get into town this is one of the first places I stop by. Rubio"s is notoriously known for their fish tacos, however they have many other things on their menu that are fantastic. Right now they currently have a special called the costal trio which is amazing, as well as their cabo plate. Atmosphere is great as well. Definitely recommend this place to everyone! read more

Have gone in the past. Really liked the salads. Though today the to go container had little to no cabbage and chicken. Told the cashier and instead of adding the appropriate cabbage she added romaine lettuce (thought romaine was also recalled). She also just sprinkled it on the top of the cabbage. When I asked for the appropriate cabbage she gave me one of those looks and made another one. What's up with Rubio's? We used to really enjoy going there. The wait was so long, people were leaving. Restaurant wasn't very clean, and restrooms were worse. We ordered tacos, a burrito and a bowl. The bowl was so awful, I couldn't eat it, and had to send it back - the fish was raw inside and tasted "skunky". The tortilla on the burrito was clearly quite old. The tacos were edible, barely, but everything was seriously over-salted and over-saturated with sauce.
