Shrimp and Bacon Burrito
Jack M.

I had the Bacon and Shrimp Burrito. It was a first time for me and it will certainly not be my last. The burrito came with a very good amount of succulent well seasoned shrimp, but the burrito did need more bacon. It was not as noticeable as the shrimp. However, it did not hurt the over all tasty quality of the burrito. But still....more bacon please. The toasted cheese inside the burrito was interesting and good. It actually had a good crunch and flavor. The handmade guacamole was fresh, the red chiles tasty, the citrus rice soft, the salsa fresca zesty, and the chipotle sauce was very good. All made for a tasty filling burrito. Rubio's around town are only offering to go and delivery via door dash.

Langostino bowl

My go-to spot whenever I'm on campus and forget my lunch at home. This is probably the most busy eatery on campus, yet the work the most efficiently and consistently. Like even when it's the lunch rush they get through the line quickly and get the food to everyone pretty quick. The workers here are super nice and always seem to be in a good mood whenever I go. The ancho citrus shrimp burrito is super tasty and filling. And the salsa I always get is in the bottles by the soda machine, which is a jalapeno citrus salsa. I have to say that's the best salsa they have, the actual salsa bar to me is a bit mediocre. I recently tried the langostino lobster bowl, and it is a bit on the pricey side since the bowl is mostly rice and not that much langostino. I think it needs some lemon and butter but maybe that is just a personal preference ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The chips that come with the burrito are always super crisp and salted perfectly. Every once in a while they run out of the jalapeno citrus salsa and it breaks my heart every time lol. Additionally the salsa bar can get a bit nasty considering how many college students stop by throughout the day. But other than that, this Rubios is good stuff.

Small California burrito for $10 definitely not worth it

Came in to try the new Cali burrito, area was clean and staff was productive and nice but damn for the price of $10 this burrito is TRASH it's literally the size of 3 flavor cups check images I will never come to Rubio's again.

Quality is the same but dare I say even better than the chula vista location! We ordered the following: -fish tacos (must order) -shrimp quesdilla (must order) -aguachile rojo (must order) -quesabirria taco I love that they don't overcompensate with batter when it comes to their fish tacos. You can actually taste the fish and everything about it is SO flavorful! Their shrimp quesadilla was also a surprise banger! Incredibly tasty and can last as 4 meals between 2 people, the portion is HUGE! Not too salty at all but so addictive. Lastly, their aguachile is a must! I tried this at their chula vista location and it's still fire! And ofc they give you complimentary consome! This spot is a hidden gem for sure!

I wasn't even planning on getting mariscos that day but it felt like a sign so I took it as a little treat. It's a food truck setup with folding tables and chairs and a pretty big parking lot since the plaza itself is kind of dead. Parking was easy and there was plenty of space. I walked up and they were doing construction on the tent right above where you order and it was really loud. I feel like that could've been done during closing because it disrupted the vibe. The area is already a little rough so it just made things feel a bit off. The lady working was super sweet. She took my order, you pay right after and they do accept tap to pay which I love because I don't carry cash. They take your name and call you when it's ready. I got mine to go, waited about 10 minutes, and everything came out pretty quick. They packaged everything really well too which I appreciated because aguachile can easily spill. For the tostada they gave two packs of saltines and three tostadas which felt like a good portion. They also had fresh salsas at the truck but I skipped them since my taco already came with sauce. I ordered a fish taco and an aguachile verde tostada. I went home excited to try everything but honestly it didn't really hit for me. The fish taco was a good size with a lot of cabbage and a white sauce, but the fish was a little too soft. I wish it had more crisp and overall the flavors just weren't memorable. It's about $3.70 so fair, just nothing standout. The aguachile verde was the weakest part. Some shrimp textures were off and a few had a strange aftertaste. I've had a lot of aguachile recently and this was probably the lowest quality. I will say they were generous with the avocado and the sauce itself had a nice spicy kick, it just didn't come together overall. There was also an earthy note from the seeds that was very prominent which I have never experienced in aguach For the price, I paid around $20 with tip for both which isn't bad for the portions. It satisfied the craving in the moment but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to come back to.

My mother loved Anthony's, and because of the many memories we shared there, I chose this restaurant for a meaningful family celebration. Unfortunately, what should have been a beautiful afternoon became a very disappointing dining experience. Our reservation was for a party of 12, and everyone arrived on time. We were seated at Table 161 in Shawna's section. Before our visit, I requested separate checks for each family and was assured this would be handled. When Shawna came to our table, I confirmed the request again. Although she said she had not been informed, she agreed to separate the checks. We experienced delays from the start. Another server took our drink orders because we had been waiting so long, and we were told there had been a shift change. Shawna was friendly and pleasant, but the service overall declined quickly. Our appetizers took about 45 minutes to arrive, and the soup was delayed an additional 15 minutes. Our dinner orders were not taken until after 4:30 p.m. The food quality was also disappointing. Some dishes were overly greasy, one meal was sent back, and a salad was incomplete. After such a long wait, the food did not meet expectations. After dinner, Shawna kindly brought out a dessert we had brought to celebrate my mother's birthday, which we appreciated. However, after dessert, we waited a long time for our checks. We watched other tables come, eat, pay, and leave while we remained waiting. When Shawna returned, she presented one bill totaling over $500 instead of separate checks. When we reminded her, she attempted to divide the bill, but the checks were inaccurate. By this point, it was around 6:00 p.m., and we had been there nearly three hours. The situation became stressful as we tried to sort out the billing issues. Since I was not prepared to cover the entire bill, we spent additional time trying to correct the errors. Watching other guests come and go while we remained waiting added to the frustration. Eventually, I spoke with the manager, who was kind and professional. She attempted to help resolve the issue and later offered a discount. While I appreciated her efforts, the checks were still incorrect, and we ultimately decided to pay and leave rather than continue the process. Even after the adjustment, we paid over $400 for an experience that left us disappointed. This review took time to write because I wanted to be fair. I understand that restaurants get busy and mistakes happen, but spending nearly three hours at dinner with delays, food issues, and billing problems was frustrating. Additionally, as a Black family and the only Black guests in the building, the overall experience made us feel as though we may have been treated differently, which added to our discomfort. What should have been a joyful celebration turned into a stressful experience. My mother's birthday should have been remembered for family and love, not service issues. We left Anthony's at 6:30 p.m. I hope the restaurant reviews what happened and improves, as long-time customers deserve better.

I wanted to find a sit down spot that could deliver that same citrusy, flavor packed experience and this place was everything. We came in pretty close to closing without realizing, and I hate doing that because I know how it feels working in food service, but the staff still maintained such a great attitude. We were told to seat ourselves and while the inside was way too hot to sit comfortably, the outdoor patio was perfect. Our server brought out water and menus almost immediately and even after realizing they closed at 8pm, we never felt rushed at all. The menu is full of mariscos classics like ceviches, aguachiles, tostadas, and larger plates. Prices range from affordable to a little higher, but the portions definitely reflect that. My husband and I both got tostadas to start. I got the La Special and he got the aguachile tostada, and thinking the portions would be small, we also ordered carne asada fries and a California burrito... which we definitely didn't need... BUTT I am glad we got them because YUM! The tostadas were a 100/10. The portions alone felt more than an appetizer/snack. The La Special was loaded with raw shrimp, cooked shrimp, and octopus, all super fresh with great texture. I just wish there was a little more avocado. The aguachile had that perfect citrusy, spicy kick that makes it addicting. Incredible, and I mean it. Our server also brought out a variety of sauces like chipotle crema, green salsa, red salsa, and sour cream. I added some chipotle sauce to the carne asada fries, which already came with guac and sour cream, and it took it to another level. The portion was huge, especially compared to places charging $20+ for fries. These were around $15 and came with crispy fries, flavorful meat, and a good amount of cheese. The California burrito was $12.99 and really filling with carne asada, fries, and cheese. The tortilla was soft but held everything together well and it hit exactly how a California burrito should. I seriously left with no complaints. The service was amazing, the food exceeded expectations, and this is definitely going into our regular rotation.
