Not my first pic for fast casual Mexican in San Diego but in a pinch it does the trick I got the California bowl and I actually thought it was a very good value for the cost. It was hearty and flavorful and adding on the shrimp only cost $2. The girl at the front counter was super nice and very patient with me being indecisive. I had an offer of two bowls for $20 So I decided to treat myself and not have to cook dinners for two nights. They have new macro bowls with lots of protein so I tried the macro bowl with steak option and they had a double portion of steak brown rice, black beans, some nice cream, sauces and lots of smashed guacamole. It was very filling And I enjoyed it the second night. The first day I had the Mexican street corn bowl and I decided to opt for the mahi-mahi for the protein and it had citrus rice and black beans and avocado, and the corn mix was pretty spicy, but I liked it. I ordered everything for pick up and they added the salsa and the cilantro and onion mixes that I chose and my order was ready to pick up within 10 minutes. Thank you Rubio's for the nice two for $20 deal. I appreciate being given a treat like that. The employees were great and the restaurant was clean and there's plenty of parking right off of Rosecrans before you get to the freeway. read more

Continues to be a 5 star experience, the last review I had for this place was 4 years ago and today I just want to say thank you. I have been having a hard couple of weeks and today I decided I'd get lunch at Rubios since it was a Tuesday, I placed my order online. I chose a shrimp and steak rice bowl and chose my side salsas and waited for the allocated order time. The parking here is always a little rough but with some patience I got into my spot, spoke to the rep and picked up my order. Seriously everyone here is so nice, from the cashier to the manager every was so kind and I just needed the kindness. They really have upped up the food, my shrimps were tender and not over cooked and the steak was still so juicy, marinated really well and super tender and definitely worth it. It was so filling and for the cost it's super fair, I could only eat half so the rest is definitely my lunch for the next day. read more

I think Rubio's fish tacos are always solid! I ordered the fish taco especial (two taco plate). The fish tacos were great, soft tortillas, crispy battered fish, and fresh guac and cabbage. I also love that it comes with tortilla chips and beans (topped with melted cheese). Their salsa bar is also a nice touch where they have mild, medium, and hot salsa, lemon wedges, and onions + cilantro. Food comes out pretty quickly. I enjoyed the Original Fish Taco Especial, where "Especial" means they add guacamole and cheese to the tacos. The fish is nice and crispy! The tortilla and sauce are delicious! Been going to this Rubio's in the Sports Arena area for years and years and sorry to say but the food quality and customer service has slowly gotten worse and worse. Today I ordered two fish taco special, the tortillas were hard, so obviously old. I had waited at least 15 plus minutes for my meal and I was in a rush but I wanted to make sure the manager knew. Usually you'd think the manager would give you a free meal card for next time, nope, not Jason. He seemed so disinterested like I was bothering him. Funny thing is I've noticed Jason over the last many times I've been and the dude is always in the parking lot smoking his cigarettes like a chimney. You can smell it on his clothes. Again I don't ask for much, but it took forever for a simple order, the tortillas were old should have been thrown out, and when I told Jason he could care less and smells like a pack of cigarettes. Is this how Rubio's treats long time customers? Someone at corporate has to decide how they want to go about running this store. Won't be going back. See ya! read more

I really enjoyed the fish tacos which I'm sorry my were a really good size, crispy, and hot. I think that' Point Loma store has way better fish tacos on the mission valley store. Since I went on a Tuesday, fish, tacos were on special. The price got raised from $2 to $2.25 for the original fish taco but still a really good deal. For the kids meal side dish, the fries are too thick and too much potato, says my daughter. We had issues with a wrong order but it was fixed. We stopped by this restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. I got the mexican street corn bowl and my friend got the burrito. While the food was getting ready, we grabbed all the different salsas from the salsa station. We particularly loved the tomatillo green salsa. It was not too spicy and had the right flavor. They had a good range of salsa with varying degree of spice level. I did avoid cheese in my bowl to make it extra healthy. When we got our food, we were blown away by how amazing the food tasted. The mexican street corn bowl had the right balance of veggies, corn, rice, guac and cream. The burrito was big and packed with veggies. I would highly recommend this restaurant! We've had tacos at a different Rubios location once before and we didn't like them at all. Decided to give this rubios one more try since we got a coupon in the mail. We've come back on 2 separate occasions now because we actually like it. My husband got the burrito especial twice and enjoyed it both times. I've had the al pastor bowl and Mexican street corn bowl. It's been years since I have been at this location and man was it busy on a Tuesday! Most people are just standing around inside waiting for their meal that was ordered through the app or over the phone. However, those people are blocking the way for people who want to order in store. The employees ask the people who have ordered to stand off to the side but as more people come in, no one listens. I think this could be better managed by a "stand outside and we'll bring the food out" type of system, especially with covid still around. The self serve salsa bar is now just everything packed and ready behind the counter. There's some indoor seating but also outdoor seating, taking up a few parking spots. I got the 2 fish taco plate for their taco Tuesday deal and paid little over $6 when originally it's about $2 more. Took a star off because (in addition to the crowded room) I specifically asked for rice and beans and still got chips.
