Crabcake platter and Mitch's Blonde - everything was great!
    Vivian H.

Mitch's Seafood is one of my favorite places in all of San Diego! This place is popular and for good reason. I had been volunteering all morning at SD International Triathlon and was pretty hungry when I arrived here at around 11am. Place was already filled with people! You know its good thats why people already here! Line wasnt too long yet and I got to the register quickly. Greeted by a nice cashier and ordered the crab cake platter and a Mitch's Blonde. You order your food, take a number, pick up your beer at the counter and then go find a seat and they bring the food to you. I often sit outside so I can enjoy the view and soak in the sunshine and see all the shore birds. I am told the gulls love the crabcake the best! Food is always on point here, beer was solid (not my favorite but it worked). Service always good here. Definitely Ill be back again and again and again! You should come here too! You wont be disappointed.

Portions are huge especially the sampler platter which had so so many fries, shrimp, fish, crab cake, and calamari. My favorite on the platter was the shrimp it was big and flavorful! We also tried the poutine fries with crab and wowzas! That crab is goood. Next time I come I would love to try the sandwiches or tacos, it looked so good. Id you sit outside tho, beware. While it has an amazing view, the seagulls stalk you till they find an opening and will steal your food.

Always a mystery when I'm in town. Everything is good, literally can't go wrong with any choice. Service is so friendly and efficient with as busy as they get. Watch out for seagulls when ordering crab cakes and sitting outside. Always love love love this little place.

Fresh seafood, great prices, and fast services! On our recent visit to San Diego, Mitch's came highly recommended and we made it one of our "must-try" restaurant. The restaurant is located near the water and is highly popular among tourists and locals. There is a decent size paid parking lot at the back, but finding a spot may be tough. Taking Uber may be a better option. When we arrived, the restaurant had a line but was moving quickly. The menu was written on the board and customers ordered at the counter. Water was self served and waiters would bring out your food when ready. Both indoor and outdoor dining areas were available. For dinner, I had the seafood stew for $31, which had ample seafood in a flavorful tomato based broth. A warm baguette was served on the side. My husband had the fish and chips for $14. He said the fried fish was slightly soggy, but he enjoyed his meal. Overall, the restaurant felt authentic and the food was of solid quality. The prices here are unbeatable with the fresh ingredients and serving sizes. Can't wait to return to try other dishes. Highly recommend!

Went to Mitch's for my birthday dinner whilst on vacation. We arrived via Uber at 6 PM and it was about 3/4 full. My wife ordered the Steamers plus a wine whilst I got the Seafood Platter and a beer. It came to $72.45 plus tip. The ordering process is to order at the counter and then find a seat. Your food is then delivered to your 'table'. There are 3 tables, three booths and a plethora of counter-type seats, which is what we chose, for the view of the harbor. Our meal came in about 10-12 mins. The steamers came with a garlicky, oniony white wine broth and a 5" chunk of a baguette. I only tasted the broth but it was excellent. My platter came loaded with fries, lots of fried calamari, a 4-ounce portion of fish, three very large breaded shrimp and a huge crab cake. There were no negative takes on my meal and the highlights were the fish and crab cake. The fish was lightly battered and was perfectly cooked. The crab cake had a great crust on each side and was 1 1/2" thick, with great crab flavor. There's a big chance we will be returning next year.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Great views and great tacos! My main cravings in SD have been tacos and seafood so Mitch's hit the spot for me. Service was wonderful as the person taking our order kindly helped us identify low mercury seafood options due to my pregnancy. We ordered a variety of fish and seafood tacos, but the standout was the octopus taco. It was better than Oscar's bc of the charred flavor and crispiness in texture. The crab cakes were really good too, so much so that we ordered seconds and thirds! ;) Sitting outside was nice because gorgeous weather outside, but the seagulls try to steal your crab cakes so need to eat quickly. Views are beautiful though so for me it was worth the minor inconvenience. Parking can be tricky because you have to prepay in the lot and wait in line, but my husband took care of that with ease. We'd def come back for the octopus tacos and crab cakes. Next time, we'll try their soups and sandwiches too!

Mitch's Seafood is a San Diego MUST! It's really hard to beat enjoying ultra-fresh seafood in the fresh ocean air. If you're lucky, you'll catch some seal or sea lion action! Tip: if you're sitting at a corner edge outside, be on the lookout for thieving sea gulls! Worth it every time.

Was in San Diego and only had free time to go to one spot for lunch - Mitch's was close to our hotel. Arrived at 1pm on Sunday and the line was out the door almost to the street. We had to leave by 2pm and already had a backup plan to take our food to go. But the line moved fast and we were actually out but 2pm. The line never got shorter and we were worried we might not find seats but they have their timing right. Get your seat after you order and have a number - by the time you order, people would have left and seats are available. They will also ask you to leave if you take seats without a number. Food was good & really fresh. Wanted to get oysters but had a wedding to go to so didn't risk it but saw many ppl ordered it. Had the octopus taco and grilled shrimp platter with limeade. Hubby had the fish & chips with iced tea. Portions were just right. I thought the shrimp could use a bit more seasoning. Loved their coleslaw that had cilantro fir a bit of a twist. Read previous reviews about sitting outside to be wary of seagulls but they had these rubber-ended wire things on the roof that worked great to keep thdm away so we could eat & enjoy the view!

Parking is metered so be aware of the limited at lunch time. Ordering is quick but the food delivery is a bit slow. I ordered the crab cakes and clam chowder. A little disorder but quickly addressed when the chowder was delivered later. Overall crab cakes had a bit too much breading and on the saltier side. Clam chowder I can taste more cream than the clams. I dock a point due to service because the servers started clearing plates when we were still enjoying our food. Seems a bit a way to rush us so they can sit others down but still a courtesy gesture or a word of what you were doing instead of just grabbing the plates and giving people the eye. Overall you are sitting by the pier and docks of ships and give the beach restaurant vibes but the food is alright and subpar. Expected when you are in this tourist area.

I was really excited about trying this spot because it came recommended. Mitch's is a on the pier seafood shack. There's a minimal wait but, ordering goes smoothly. There is seating on the premises. While here I had the clams, avocado toast and shrimp tacos. The running theme in all the food, zero seasoning. Though the portions were nice, the food was bland. Additionally my clams tasted like someone just threw a 20oz of beer in them and let them simmer. I saved my clams for later and did reheat them with some butter and a little seasoning, it did the trick. Overall I think this is a one and done visit for me. But one persons under seasoned is another persons just right.

Crab cakes were bomb, but the seagulls really go after you aggressively if you sit outside. Every few minutes they try to take another shot at steeling your food, so I def recommend sitting inside or taking out. The fries were average. Good beer selection, though 9/10 bucks like many other places. The line can also get ridiculous after 5. 3 to 4 stars.

Came in today because I've heard they have some of the best fish and chips in the area . They seem to have a good menu with a good variety . I'll start with the good things . The ceviche was soooo good , as well as the elote they served . I was surprised to see elote on the menu at a seafood place but it was amazing . My daughter and I love us some fish and chips and we are completely disappointed. They have no crunch and are so soggy . Literally pick it up and it just falls apart . 20$ for 3 pieces and fries and I feel like I just wasted 40 bucks . I didn't even finish it all because it's just a mushy mess . Unfortunately I won't be back for fish and chips , I was hoping the hype was real and I was left not impressed at all. Parking starts at 5$ for 2 hours so be prepared for that as well :)

Ask the Community - Mitch's Seafood

Are there gluten-free, vegan, and other dietary restriction options?

Nothing in their menu claims to be explicitly gluten free. Vegan is highly unlikely as this is a seafood restaurant on the docks. Thus, their menu showcases seafood (meat). I would recommend confirming with staff before you order if the grilled…

    Yes, but limited seating

When is a good time and day time to go to Mitch's? Today, Friday 11/4 we arrived there at 2PM. The line was out the door. At 3 after we ate at Point Loma Seafood, it seemed much less crowded. What are good days and times to go to Mitch's. Thx

Do you have Taco Tuesday specials?

    No response!

Yes for a standard size chair. It's outside chairs along the railing and the boats right there to view. No tables just bar stools.

Does Mitch's Seafood have a military discount?

    No they do not.

Do they still accept the restaurant.com certificates? Tried calling but couldn't understand the person and hung up on me.

And this review is after that experience, so we can compare and contrast things like pricing and quality. When you come here you must bring a loaded wallet. To try a sour beer or any of their Russian River beers, (which was a surprise to us that there even was beer coming out of Russian River, a place I love for wine) .... is $19 for a bottle. And if you've never tried a sour beer and no one likes it, there are no returns. You pay your money and you take your chances. They are creative at The Joint. I mean an eel roll with macadamia nuts is a brilliant twist on sushi. The second thing we try is their soft shell crab roll. Delicious. Everyone at the table 'seconds' these comments. I ask someone on the way in, seated at a table eating sushi if it is good. He says: "I'll let you know". Later, he comes back to our table to let me yes! It's really good". So is this a good place to go for Sushi? The answer is yes. Is it a little confusing as an asian fusion place to have so many diverse choices? The answer is yes, but I also admit I do like all the options. Again, they call their Happy Hour food 'Tapas'. Is that Spanish, or is it just me? Japanese fried chicken or an arugula salad or oysters? lol Your taste buds must travel all over the place and that's hard on the palate and my headspace of 'what am I eating'? Is it overpriced? The answer is yes! And if I'm being honest, it surprises me that no one else on yelp is mentioning this. If money is not an issue and you want good sushi, our group recommends trying The Joint. Just don't count on happy hour having happy prices. $4 for an oyster is not happy! It's regular priced. Maybe even over priced for a happy hour menu where oysters come in at $1 and $2 for happy hour. And today, they are all out of oysters. lol We usually just tell you what to order when you go to a restaurant. This is the first time we have felt the need to let you know what you're in for, price wise. Sorry to the wonderful staff and great chef. No idea why they need to represent themselves as 'happy hour noon - 6pm every day', leading me to believe there is good pricing. But it's not my zoo, not my monkeys.
