I always come to this Rubios location and the food here is consistently delicious! The restaurant is always kept tidy and orderly and the staff is always helpful and quick with my order!

The Taco Tuesday special is really good. However it's only three types on special, Chicken, Steak and Original Fish. You can order a Fish Especial with guacamole and pico sauce for 29 cent more. However my experience was it has a much smaller piece of fish on it. That's the Especial on the right. Really disappointed with this. I have to say the regular fish tacos are really good.

Coho salmon burrito with fresh greens

I was hungry so I wanted something quick. I also was craving salmon. I like burritos. Boom. Rubio's fit the bill for lunch. Their salmon burrito is made with wild Coho (Silver) salmon which was even better since I tend to like wild salmon over the farm raised stuff. It wasn't too busy here around lunchtime on a weekday. Perhaps it was because it's fall break here apparently so there was no lunchtime rush of students. It's been forever since I had something at Rubio's but the menu is pretty much the same, with various seafood options and chicken for your taco, burrito, bowl or quesadilla. I got my order to go. While you wait for your meal there's a nice little salsa bar with various spice levels and a few different salsas in a bottle. I got a little of the mild, hot, and jalapeno citrus salsas. Something I wasn't aware of until I glanced more closely at the menu was that if your meal comes with a side, you have the option of either chips or fresh greens. The cashier neglected to ask me and inputted chips as my side. Hey, I want my greens! It was an easy enough fix though but in the future if the cashiers could ask which side you want instead of automatically assuming you want chips it would clear up any further adjustments in orders. The salmon burrito was as expected. I liked the salmon, and in general I like burritos. Do I like both together? Hm, still not sure about that one, or at least I'm not sure about the version they serve here. The filling consisted mainly of rice, a little bit of cabbage, and a decent amount of guac stuffed to the edge of the burrito. The fresh greens were, well, fresh greens. It was a simple pile of lettuce with a small container of citrusy dressing. Theoretically it's a healthier option than getting the chips and the dressing tasted alright. The cost? Around $10. I wasn't a big fan of the burrito but maybe I'll try one of their tacos next time!

I ordered the Mahi Mahi Street Corn Bowl, it was delicious! The service was fast and restaurant was clean. Overall 5 stars!

Spice level was medium and went with the 88 Special seasoning (a combination of cajun, garlic butter, and lemon pepper) - AMAZING flavor!! Perhaps my favorite aspect was that their seasonings were not overly salty - I feel that most other seafood boil restaurants just include way too much salt in their seasonings... but at Pier 88, you can really indulge without feeling like you're going to end up with high blood pressure! Extras included corn, sausage, and potatoes... and those were all delicious as well! I couldn't have been happier with this meal... so I will definitely return again soon! This place looked like it did a good seafood boil and was located near where our hotel was. Upon entering we were greeted and sat right away. He ordered a shrimp basket while I ordered my usual snow crab. Heads up, all the supplies will be brought in the bottom of the discard bucket like gloves, lemons, and crab crackers. I wasn't aware of this, and placed all the discarded items on top of it while eating bareheaded as I didn't see supplies, and no one was around to ask. Usually places will bring on the side, and I wish I was told that in advance when it was brought to the table. It made for quite the mess, but if we return I'll know for next time. Once our server returned to check in after 10+ minutes that's when we were advised, and I adjusted though I had put my boil bag in there so most had been soiled. As for the food, he liked his shrimp while I thought the crab was okay in flavor/spice. It didn't really standout out like other places I've been to recently, but overall I would return if I was in the area.

Now the drinks are another thing I ordered the Two by the sea, oh, for a weekday afternoon that drink was SMOOTH! Going to def the dinner service sometime for sure! I couldn't even get them to soften in the soup. I had to scoop them out. I know they didn't cook the oyster crackers, but maybe pop open a bag every once in a while and test them. Main dish, my favorite, was the Sauteed N'Awlins BBQ Shrimp. I've been getting this dish for years. This time, the shrimp seemed maybe a little overcooked, or something. The meat of the shrimp was becoming a little stringy, but they were still very tender. So, I still enjoyed it. This has always been our choice for a birthday meal, either mine or another family member's. We NEVER tell the staff because we don't want an embarrassing fuss. This year, I had read online that they don't do singing here. So, I mentioned it was my birthday, and I got a free Butter Cake for dessert--another old favorite. Service was top-notch, as always.

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS…read more El Tataki Sushi Fusion 1410 E Southern Ave Tempe, 85282 I must confess I have never been to a Japanese Mexican restaurant in all my travels. Mexican food is almost unheard of in Japan and Japanese food is almost unheard of in Mexico, but here it is folks. Companion and I went for lunch and ended up eating supper there. I began by ordering edamame with garlic. I loved it. Edamame is one of my favorite snacks and I had never had it with garlic on it before. A nice twist on a favorite food. Companion ordered a vegetable tempura while I ordered a shrimp tempura. Whoever did the frying certainly knows their art, as all of the tempura was absolutely fried to perfection. The veggies were al dente and the shrimp were large (about 3 inches long) and very tender. Most shrimp tempura in other places is overcooked and the meat is much tougher. The plates came with a number of onion rings on them and once again, they were perfectly cooked. Companion also ordered pork gyozas. They were perfectly cooked as well. I wanted to try something from the sushi bar, so I ordered Unagi (eel nigiri). They were perfectly made with the proper amount of eel sauce on it along with ginger and wasabi on the side. Portion size was good and flavor was excellent. In Japan when the brutal heat of summer comes it is often said, "Doyo no Ushi no Hi" which means have you had your eels today. With this being the second day of summer, it was certainly appropriate to order them today. We also ordered fried rice and that was the only part of the meal that neither of us enjoyed. The rice just didn't have the right flavor or texture. After each of us had some we left the rest. Finally, it was dessert time. Also time for something that neither of us had ever had before - Fried Cheesecake. Our waitress Ximena brought out a huge, towering chunk of Cheesecake which was surrounded by whipped cream and had chocolate sauce and strawberry all over it. Wow! If you go there this is an absolute must to order. Probably several thousand calories, but who's counting? It was outstanding. This was a thoroughly enjoyable meal which because of portion size we could not finish. The place is immaculate and the music and lighting are most suited to the younger crowd. Date night perhaps? 5 stars

It has only been open for about 3 weeks at this time. Companion and I decided to have lunch there. It is a spacious restaurant with both covered outside eating and non covered outside eating areas as well as the inside space. First thing that was noticed was that it was spotlessly clean. While the menu has a part of it dedicated to Japanese food and another pard dedicated to Mexican food, we were there to have the Cajun food. Companion ordered the Jambalaya. A rather large bowl of excellent Jambalaya that had andouille sausage and shrimp in it along with a portion of excellently seasoned rice with onions and peppers. Companion loved the dish but was unable to finish the portion. For myself, I ordered Shrimp and Grits. I was given a choice of grilled shrimp or fried shrimp, and regular grits or cheese grits. I ordered the grilled shrimp and the cheese grits. It came in the same size bowl as companions. This was by far the best shrimp and grits I have ever had in this state. Perfectly grilled shrimp, and real, not instant cheese grits. Also in this were slices of andouille sausage that very definitely was not made in this state. When I inquired about the food, the chef informed me that the ingredients come from back east and were brought in fresh. For dessert, we each had fresh made beignets covered in powdered sugar and piping hot. They came with a small order of caramel sauce that could also be put on them. Companion actually embarrassed me by licking the cup that the sauce came in till it was as clean as new! I consider this to be one of the best lunches I have had in years, and will definitely be returning for more of their excellent food. 5 Stars

TUNA MELT- it's refreshing to have a tuna sandwich that is not canned tuna. There is a chimichiri sauce that you can get to drizzle on it that really gives a depth of flavor. The bread was a nice sourdough that was not just a cheap white bread and did not get soggy. However, with my sandwich, the bread was burnt so that bitterness ruined the flavor of the delicate fish. My pictures shows a few burnt spots, but on the bottom side was way more burnt and it was like they put the most burnt side on the bottom to hide it and hope I didn't notice. I did not appreciate this. CLAM CHOWDER- creamy and more on the fluid consistency, being made with fresh clams makes the difference. Not the best chowder i've had, but was pretty decent. The fish variety can vary with seasons, but it is nice to get different choices throughout the year. There were only a couple of tables being served, yet our drinks were never refilled, our table wasn't bused, and our rice never arrived with our hot pot soups even after our server asked if we wanted it. It seemed to be forgotten. What really stood out was that we ended up eating dessert with a table full of dirty dishes still sitting in front of us and empty drinks that had not been refilled. I also noticed that the table next to us appeared to receive much more attentive service. Their drinks were refilled, their dishes were cleared promptly, and staff regularly checked on them to see if they needed anything. In comparison, our table received very little attention. I don't know why there was such a difference in service. It left me wondering whether we were being treated differently, though I can't say for certain.
