I made a reservation for Ruby Chow's based the reviews for my niece's birthday. Overall, we really enjoyed it. I had the purple rain, light and bubbly. My friend enjoyed her gingery King's Ransom. The menu is Chinese and Asian fusion, and a short list of sushi. Chinese is always meant to be shared. We had the miso truffle salmon and each of the steam buns to start. I thought the salmon was very good, I do not normally like capers, but liked the way they prepared them. The katsu was probably the best of the buns, nicely crispy. The tofu was good a well, with a nice kick, the young one in our group found it too spicy. I would not order the short rib again, it was fine, but I've had much better short rib. We then had the chicken satay, roti canai, and the miso cod. The chicken satay had good flavor, and paired well with the peanut sauce and pickles. I did find it a bit too fatty. The miso cod was perfectly cooked, and the flavor was just right. Note that it is a very small portion. The best dish was the roti, a yellow curry with chicken and veggies with two flaky peice of roti. So good. The star of the meal though was the mango sticky rice, with sorbet and small bits of mochi. This is one of the best versions I've ever had. Do not miss this dessert! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The issue I had with our visit is we, a group of three, were seated by the door, which was also near the kitchen door. I went here on my first date with my current girlfriend! I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed this place for dinner! We made a dinner reservation for two seats at the bar. I actually got a text about 30 mins before our reservation that our table is ready, which worked out perfectly because we were just waiting around anyway. We were seated right away upon checking in. Our server/bartender greeted us right away and informed us of they still have happy hour until 7 pm. We grabbed a few items from their happy hour menu - bang bang shrimp (only 3 pieces for $8 but they were nice big pieces) and purple sweet potato fries (my favorite of the night. Battered with tempura, covered with salty and was so good)! We ordered additional items - calamari (it was nicely cooked and soft), katsu bun (my hubby's favorite as the bun was soft and the pork was thinly pounded and crispy from the breading, pork kimchi fried rice (I opted for no egg. Had tons of pork pieces but really no kimchi flavor and was definitely on the sweeter side) and green beans (nicely cooked with bits of char with a sweet sauce). Their must-get drink though is the Thai tea martini! And for dessert we ordered additional items mango sticky rice. Ordered takeout and it was very solid. I ordered roti ($5), basil chicken and green beans ($13). The green beans were great but I do think that $13 is a bit much for green beans. The basil chicken was above average a little bit dry but the flavor was pretty good. The roti was good but again $5 for the portion size is a bit much. I have been wanting to try this place for years, and I'm so glad I made it here! I'll go through each dish because we ate a LOT and some things were better than others. My Thai tea martini was phenomenal, one of the best cocktails I've had. Highlights for food were lobster fried rice, walnut shrimp, and the purple potato fries (can't remember the exact name). Katsu bao (4/5): good seasoning, fluffy bun, could use a bit more slaw/crunch Maitake mushroom (5/5): crispy and fried but not greasy, good serving size and well seasoned Scallops (3/5): three scallops that are over salted and nondescript sauce/mushrooms Squash soup: (4/5) corn soup was out. Super creamy and savory with some nice crunch from nuts and a tinge of acid. Shaking beef (3.5/5): it's literally just a deconstructed burger. The meat is nice but the rest of it is just straight up unseasoned raw lettuce, onion, and tomato. Mango sticky rice (5/5): probably the best thing I've had here so far. With my boyfriend on a Monday night, it was just the two of us and there was no wait. We ordered a couple of items and they came out pretty fast. I really like the fried oysters. They were really lightly breaded and the sauce was unique. They had a lot of unique cocktails. I ordered the one with gin and butterfly, and it was light and refreshing. We were a party of 8 people! The wait time was a bit long but they were able to accommodate our party in a small setting since all of the tables would normally seat about 2 people. I didn't take any pictures of the food because I was pretty hungry but we had the basil chicken, Roti Canai, Brussel sprouts, Szechuan green beans, & I believe the shaking beef! All the dishes were very good my favorites were the beef, green beans and the basil chicken! Came here for dinner with colleagues and I was visiting atlanta. It is asian style tapas and I was shocked with how good it was! We came at 5:30 on a tuesday wit a reservation and it was pretty empty, but slowly started to get busy during normal dinner time hours (6-7pm). The Katsu bao and the maitake mushrooms are a MUST get. Everything else was solid as well but that katsu was cooked to perfection. One thing I will say though is that even for tapas, the price is pretty expensive for the quantity you get. I was most disappointed in the shaking beef, being 18 dollars and getting about 10 pieces of beef that couldn't be more than 3-4oz all together. The service was great though and i liked the ambiance of the restaurant. I definitely would come again to try other dishes if I am ever back in atlanta, i just wish the prices were a little bit more affordable. read more

That small act made a big impression. Now, the food--wow. Every single dish blew us away. We wrapped it up with mango sticky rice that was the perfect balance of sweet and satisfying. Just a heads-up: it's small plate (tapas-style), so plan to order a few! Tried Ruby Chows on a whim last night.... I keep passing by wondering what's behind those heavy red curtains. Inside was reminiscent of an old Chinese restaurant. But make no mistake it did not feel old. It felt, seductive, sexy. The atmosphere felt sexy and relaxed at the same time. People gathered there after work, casual birthday celebration and date night. My friend and I had the pow pow shrimp which was my favorite. Onions fried down in a red chilli sauce. The seafood dip was delicious also. My friend had the Cacio E Pepe with the pork cutlet. Located in midtown near Ponce, the vibe is modern, moody, and buzzing -- perfect for a night out with friends or a date spot that doesn't take itself too seriously. We had reservations so we were promptly seated (albeit right behind the curtain to the door). Our server gave us the menu, and brought us some water till we made up our minds. I chose to keep it a libation free night. For the food we opted to try a few things (given its tapas style menu and portions I'd recommend trying to bunch of items). We got the katsu bun, which came out hot, pillowy, and stuffed with crispy, juicy pork -- solid way to kick things off. The shoyu tomago (marinated soft-boiled egg) was simple but packed with umami. It's a hit if you like the little details done right. We also got the roti canai - the roti was flaky and buttery, and the curry dip had just enough heat to keep things interesting. Probably my favorite bite of the night -- comforting and bold at the same time. We also ordered the pow pow shrimp, which i gobbled down in a jiffy! Crunchy, saucy, and addictive. For the dessert, we opted for the Thai tea creme brûlée (I think). That was the only thing I felt that I should have subbed with the Panna cotta. But overall the food was a hit. It's not too often I am able to say with full confidence I have a favorite restaurant. Ruby Chow, Brian and Keanna, more than delivered to make me feel as though I have found my new favorite. The menu was overwhelming in the best way. You simply just have to order it all, or come often. We ended up ordering from each section with great recommendations from Keanna. For the cocktail selection, Brian himself creates them and you can tell he is truly gifted when it comes to the perfect balance of the cocktails we tried. He was even kind enough to create a special one for us that included lychee, need I say more? This was a birthday celebration with a friend and honestly the perfect place for a celebration. From the moment we were seated, which by the way the upstairs is SO cute, to the birthday card at my place setting. Inside, the restaurant has an amazing vibe, with its red-toned interior and close-quarter seating creating an intimate, personal setting. It's an easy pick if you're looking for a nice dinner, especially for a special occasion. The food absolutely lives up to, if not surpasses, the ambiance. I ordered a few dishes--the baked seafood dip, walnut shrimp, shaking beef, duck dumplings, and pork kimchi, but the standout of the evening was a pleasant surprise: the roti canai. I got the dumplings, they were great, a good blend of flavors and not too mushy. The calarmi was just okay to me, it wasn't chewy, but it tasted too much like jalepeno for my liking. Lastly, the lobster fried rice was just... fine. It's very rich and mushy, the first bite or so is good and after that it's almost inedible. I had an amazing time last night with the girls. We celebrated a friend's birthday and everything we ordered was amazing. On a Tuesday night, the restaurant wasn't packed. We were able to snag last minute reservations for a group of 6 and were seated on the back side of the restaurant. Our server was attentive and made sure that our party knew when the kitchen was closing so that we could put in everything we wanted to order. Personally, I started the night off with the Purple Rain (Ruby Chows take on a French 75). It was a perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. I liked it so much that I ordered another before the night ended. For food, I ordered the walnut shrimp (not pictured), shoyu tomago, shaking beef, roasted bone marrow (not pictured), Szechuan green beans (not pictured), & the spicy pork noodle. Ruby Chow's host must've committed it to memory when he trained for his job. I've been here plenty of times before and never had this experience. Came in to celebrate my friend's birthday. There were three of us and they directed us to a two top with an extra place setting. I could already tell that by the time we got our drinks and water cups, we'd have no room for our food and we planned on ordering a lot. It was still early in the night so there were a lot of vacant tables. Went back to the host to see if we could get moved to a bigger table to accommodate all of our dishes. He hemmed and hawed and finally sat us in what seems like the only four top in the entire restaurant besides the outdoors. We waited for about ten minutes before our server approached us profusely apologizing and hoping we hadn't waited long. She said that no one had let her know that she had us as a table. I've worked for seven years as a hostess and it was clear to me that this was a way of getting back at us for having the audacity to ask for a different table. Okay. Server was great. Food and drinks were great. But the person who is in charge of first impressions to diners with his unbothered Gen Z stare was not. A wonderful date night that made me fall in love with many dishes. We ate so much food I literally felt stuffed. Ever been to a place where EVERYTHING had its own unique twist and taste and immaculately tasty? This is the air Spot for that. It was EXTREMELY comforting to enjoy how dim the lights were while chatting and listening to the lightly playing music. It was relaxing in every aspect. They have upstairs as well for seating hut we opted for downstairs. I can't begin to explain just how good the food here is. I even tried a beer that's limited and imported. I'm a brew head so it was nice to be able to try something that I've never had before there. Parking was right behind the restaurant in a garage, but there is an opening that you can walk right through to get to ruby chows. Would I go again? YES. Was it a great experience? Ruby Chow's is an Asian fusion spot located in the heart of Atlanta. The interior is giving very much quirky and luxurious? There are a lot of dark reds and velvety items inside; the booths are like red couches that still have plastic on them while their back wall of the bar is filled with a lot of Buddha statues. It definitely seems like a date night spot due to the more intimate ambiance inside. My friend and I arrived a little after it opened on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy. We did not have reservations, but the hosts were able to seat us at the bar (the seats at the bar are fairly close to one another so be prepared for that, but otherwise I felt okay about the space I had between the people next to me). The service was good; the bartender was friendly and made lively conversation with a couple sitting next to me and the food came out incredibly quick which was fantastic. A lot of items on their menu are tapas so they are small plates that are shareable for 2-3 people each. My friend and I ordered the Roti Canai, Pow Pow Shrimp, Szechuan Green Beans, Cacio e Pepe, Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Tea Martini, and The Lychee. As far as drinks go, my friend thought the Thai Tea Martini tasted too much like Thai tea while The Lychee was a fairly sweet drink, but it did have somewhat of a bitter aftertaste to it. As for the food... it was exquisite!!! The Szechuan Green Beans were pretty good, there was a nice glaze coating them that was not too strong or weak. I think the green beans tasted better at the bottom where they got the chance to soak up the glaze. I loved the Roti Canai! It was a bit oily, but I forgot about the oiliness once I dipped it into the curry, which was extremely savory (there were carrots, potatoes, and chicken). I think my favorite dish was the Pow Pow Shrimp that was essentially fried shrimp covered in a lemongrass flavor. It was incredibly tasty! The Cacio e Pepe tasted like how it should... I was unable to taste the Asian flavors in that dish, though, as it had Szechuan pepper but that did not make a big difference. It was still creamy and yummy! I think my least favorite dish was the Mango Sticky Rice. The rice and mangoes on their own were great, but this dessert also comes with a mango ice cream or sorbet which was sweet and overpowered the dish as a whole. Overall, I had a pleasant time at Ruby Chow's! It seems that making reservations is the moves. I will say that the food is definitely on the pricier side, especially being small plates... but it was all really good. read more

First time trying this place. Food and drinks were soo good. We picked 5 or 6 items for 2 people. The drinks specifically were so yummy. We had the lychee and Thai tea martini.
