Ruby Thai appeared to be one of the most popular places in this 2nd floor food court at First Canadian Place. With a made to order Fresh Cooking Bar, it's no wonder why they had one of the longest lines. The process is simple. Grab one of their order forms, check off your desired base (rice or a choice of noodles), choose your protein (chicken, beef, BBQ pork, shrimps, or veggies), and your level of spice. Hand in your order to the cashier, pay, and wait a few minutes for your dish to be cooked. Although these dishes are made to order, it's cooked very quickly in front of you by expert chefs. The waiting time is very short. I ordered the Pad Thai noodles with Chicken and Spicy sauce. It was a little bit oversauced but tasted good, with the right amount of heat. It was obvious that they have regular repeat customers. A couple of them didn't even have to fill in the form. The staff knew exactly what they wanted. They also have a hot table with premade foods and different choices. It's easy to see why this place is so popular.

Ruby Thai is the busiest food joint in First Canadian Place during lunch rush for a good reason. Fresh made to order stir fried and soup noodle is a winner! At a reasonable price, you can get something right from the wok pipping hot, so hot and fresh! The option might be confusing for some but just get one of the order form and checked off what you want. This will make the flow and wait smoother and faster. Chicken Pad Thai ($9.38) was A OK. It was hot and spicy. A little heavy on the sauce but as food court food, it exceeded my expectation! BTW, there are 3 lines: one for soup, one for stir fried and one for hot table. Think what you feel like eating before lining up!

This place is super busy at lunch, as with any place downtown. The price and portions are the only good things really. I got a pad thai and it was too soggy and the flavour was a bit off. I like thai express much better but this isn't terrible for food court food. I probably won't be back since there are so many other options in the plaza and area.

Beef brisket with Shanghai noodles w/ boiled egg in a spicy broth

Welcome to Ruby Thai. There are three lines that move concurrently. The left is for made-to-order noodle soup, middle is for prepared Chinese food, and I will figure out the right one in due time. I had the Beef Brisket with Shanghai noodles, soy sauce marinated boiled egg and the spicy beef broth. Very aromatic! The beef brisket was tenderly chewy and the broth wasn't overly-salty - did not have to drink copious of water post-meal. Nothing special about the Shanghai noodles, doe. Good amount of toppings (veggies + meat). Pretty good for $7.90. For reference, the nutritional information can be found here: http://irg168.com/rubythai.html

Soup with rice noodles, beef, Malaysian laksa base - delicious and only $8.23!

First visit and was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the noodle soup where you can customize your meat/protein, you noodle type, and your soup base. My choice was beef, with rice noodles, and Malaysian laksa soup and it was delicious! The beef was tender and flavourful and the soup was aromatic had great depth of flavours. The dish is nicely garnished with bean sprouts, bok choy and tofu. Will definitely return to get my Asian curry soup flavour fix! Highly recommended for $8.23 (tax included)!

One of the busiest places in FCP food court. The lines may have insanely long, but they go by pretty quickly (the noodles line up). For around $8-$9, you can get a custom bowl of hearty noodle soup, whether you want tom yum, Laksa or spicy. You also get a choice of different types of noodles.

Why are there French fries in my noodle soup?!!!

The menu had several vegetarian/vegan options plus all other options. I ordered online and it was ready when we got there. I asked for some bowls and cutlery and got some. Yummy Thai food with fresh ingredients…read more For two people we got the papaya salad w/dried shrimp, Khao Soi w/shrimp, and pad gra prow w/crispy pork. We ordered medium spicy for the papaya salad and it only had a slight kick. I wished the salad portion was more as it was gone pretty quickly. It comes with shrimp chips, pork rinds, and 2 small bundles of rice noodles. The dried shrimp in the salad was very chewy though, which made it a bit less enjoyable. I ended up picking them all out. We ordered spicy for the pad gra prow but it wasn't spicy at all. I think you can ask for the Thai chilis/ Thai chili fish sauce thing on the side but we decided we were fine with no spicy. Unfortunately the crispy pork was not crispy at all and was also very chewy. Overall it was still delicious! The Khao soi mightve honestly been the least favorite, but it was still good. It is on the sweeter side. The egg noodles were cooked al dente and had a nice chew. Sometimes when I get Khao soi it ends up being too heavy or creamy, but the curry for this one was thinner and easy to eat. The shrimp was the best part - super fresh and bouncy. In the end I thought the portions and quality were good. The service was also super nice, and it was impressive to see our waitress cover so many tables. The restrooms were also clean.

I'm definitely coming back here!…read more We ordered the Tapioca dumplings, the beef messemen curry, and the mango and purple sticky rice. Wow! It was all so tasty. The tapioca dumplings are unlike anything I've tasted before. They serve it with a side of lettuce, mint and peanuts. I liked the dumplings better without the sides they served! The lettuce and other add ons dim the flavors of the dumplings. So I prefer just eating the dumplings straight on. The Messemen curry was so flavorful and the beef was so tender! I'm a big fan. If you're a fan of Thai curries then you'll definitely like this! The Mango purple sticky rice dessert was also really tasty! It had a tasty coconut sorbet and it all went really well together. Service was good, food came out quickly, vibes were good. No complaints here!

Unfortunately, the day took an unexpected turn when I had to go to the hospital, and for a while I thought I wouldn't make it at all. As a testament to both the kindness of my friends and the exceptional staff at Lao Lao, they were able to accommodate us even though I arrived nearly two hours late on a busy Saturday evening. Originally, our table was only reserved until 8:00 p.m.--the exact time I finally arrived. Thankfully, with the help of our incredible server, Savanna N., everything worked out. Her professionalism, warmth, and willingness to help truly made the evening possible. More than anything, I hoped the wait would be worthwhile for my friends, who were visiting for the first time. I'm happy to say they absolutely loved it--especially the outstanding hospitality and customer service. A huge thank you to Savanna and the entire team for making us feel so welcome. As for the food, every dish was delicious. Nothing disappointed. The papaya salad was such a hit that we ordered it twice. The Beef Massaman Curry, Crispy Lao Spiced Chips, Banana Leaf Steamed Fish, and the seasonal Vermicelli Noodle in Chicken Coconut Red Curry were all exceptional. Although it had been about a year since my last visit, I was delighted to see that Lao Lao remains consistently excellent in its food, quality, and service. Bravo!

The drunken noodles had a perfect blend of spices just like Hometown and we will definitely go back to try this and the rest of the stuff on the menu again. The service was amazing, we were greeted by the host with a warm welcome, and the waiter was also very kind. It is a true authentic Thai restaurant and the food and flavors are expected and reflect from the culture. Ambience is just like the islands of why the title of the name is there and the decorations are amazing. Let's talk about dessert, the pandan toast was out of this world. I eat pad Thai in every city I visit and this may be the best yet since I first had pad Thai in college many many years ago. Been chasing that epic pad Thai for years and think I finally found it. Amazing depth of flavor. Partner got the Islamic noodles, which he thought were excellent as well, rich flavor and very well made. Would happily eat again. The only issue I had which made me knock off a star is that the glass and silverware had an odd scent, like the smell your glasses have if there's food stuck in your dishwasher filter -- if you know that scent you know what I mean. Just smelled funky and honestly the smell was ruining the taste (smell and taste are so closely linked) so I drank out of my own water bottle I had brought and grabbed a plastic fork to eat with which did solve the issue but still...less than ideal
