One of my go to lunch spots when working downtown. If you come here during lunch hour you will notice a long line and they have a few different lines depending on what you want from noodle soups, to fresh cooking and the regular ready made food. My personal favourite is their pad Thai which is cooked live in front of you. I don't think it's any true authentic pad Thai but it is delicious and hits the spot for me. This is a Panda Express type of restaurant in the food court. The first time I came here, I got the 2 item combo with soy sauce fried rice, Thai vegetables and black bean chicken. The food was very oily. A bit too oily for my taste. I suppose some people might like it though. On my second visit, I got the Build your own noodle bowl. The line is usually really long during lunchtime, so I'm glad this one time I was able to grab an early lunch to try this out. You mark on a little sheet of paper what kind of noodles, protein, soup, and toppings you want. I got egg noodles, chicken broth, mixed seafood, egg, bean sprouts, bok choy, green onions, and cilantro. The food was cute and tasted okay. I felt it was a little bit bland though. Ruby Thai appeared to be one of the most popular places in this 2nd floor food court at First Canadian Place. With a made to order Fresh Cooking Bar, it's no wonder why they had one of the longest lines. The process is simple. Grab one of their order forms, check off your desired base (rice or a choice of noodles), choose your protein (chicken, beef, BBQ pork, shrimps, or veggies), and your level of spice. Hand in your order to the cashier, pay, and wait a few minutes for your dish to be cooked. Although these dishes are made to order, it's cooked very quickly in front of you by expert chefs. The waiting time is very short. I ordered the Pad Thai noodles with Chicken and Spicy sauce. It was a little bit oversauced but tasted good, with the right amount of heat. It was obvious that they have regular repeat customers. A couple of them didn't even have to fill in the form. The staff knew exactly what they wanted. Ruby Thai is the busiest food joint in First Canadian Place during lunch rush for a good reason. Fresh made to order stir fried and soup noodle is a winner! At a reasonable price, you can get something right from the wok pipping hot, so hot and fresh! The option might be confusing for some but just get one of the order form and checked off what you want. This will make the flow and wait smoother and faster. Chicken Pad Thai ($9.38) was A OK. It was hot and spicy. A little heavy on the sauce but as food court food, it exceeded my expectation! Finally a good takeaway thai place in the path! And everybody knows this too, as it seems to be the most popular place in FCP at lunch time. If you order from the noodle bar, be prepared for long wait times (about ~10-15 mins) as there are only two chefs that cook your food made-to-order. I ordered the pad thai with shrimp (medium spiciness) and this dish definitely did not disappoint. The flavour of the sauce isn't too overpowering and there is a good ratio of sauce to noodles. What surprised me was the portion of shrimp. You get about 8-10 large shrimp - i'm talking JUMBO sized - with the shell and tails already peeled. There's nothing more annoying than picking off the shrimp shells already covered in sauce yourself, and they do a great job taking away this problem. TIP: Make sure you grab the peanut and lime containers by the cashier before you pick up your food - these are often missed and add so much flavour to the dish. Definitely coming back to curb my lunch time thai cravings, but will likely come earlier/later than the lunch hour to beat the lunch rush. read more

This place is super busy at lunch, as with any place downtown. The price and portions are the only good things really. I got a pad thai and it was too soggy and the flavour was a bit off. I like thai express much better but this isn't terrible for food court food. I probably won't be back since there are so many other options in the plaza and area. read more

I had the Beef Brisket with Shanghai noodles, soy sauce marinated boiled egg and the spicy beef broth. Very aromatic! The beef brisket was tenderly chewy and the broth wasn't overly-salty - did not have to drink copious of water post-meal. Nothing special about the Shanghai noodles, doe. First visit and was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the noodle soup where you can customize your meat/protein, you noodle type, and your soup base. My choice was beef, with rice noodles, and Malaysian laksa soup and it was delicious! The beef was tender and flavourful and the soup was aromatic had great depth of flavours. Reasonable price in financial district. Had hot soup egg noodles with beef brisket. I got the spicy flavoured soup option. They add either an egg or a piece of fried tofu (your choice). But since I was there late for lunch today, only tofu was left. They usually add some Shanghai bok Choi and some Cilantro. Today I didn't like the beef as it had "animal" smell if you know what I mean. I'll still go back though because they have lots of other options like stir fry on the spot or ready to eat combos. read more

Ordered a flat rice noodle with tofu and braised beef in clear soup. Not bad for fast food, and did its role (fill my starving stomach) fairly well. Obviously not an authentic Thai restaurant given that its employees spoke Cantonese, but it was decent. read more

Similar to Thai Express, the pad thai and pad sew is fried up in a wok when you order. They also offer made-to-order noodle soups and a more Manchu Wok-esque scoop and serve combo menu on the other side. However the line-ups were confusing since they had 2 to 3 different line-ups going at once for the different options. During the lunchtime rush it took 15 minutes before they even got around to making my order. They also managed to confuse my order (probably because it was so loud and everybody was shouting when I was trying to give my order), giving me rice instead of noodles. On the bright side, they were willing to fix their mistake and made me another pad thai right away. Overall this might be a good place during off-peak hours, but I would avoid the hectic lunch rush. EDIT: I came here when the rush wasn't as crazy and it was totally fine. Got a noodle soup with beef brisket instead and it was alright. Choice of noodles (egg noodle, rice noodle, vermicelli thick/thin) , soup base (clear, spicy, tom yum, laksa, guilin) and meat (beef brisket, chicken, char siu, wonton, etc.) I'm impressed with the variety & quality. I always get the beef brisket - it's so soft and tender!! The BBQ Chicken is amazing as well, full of flavour and not dry at all. It also comes with choice of egg or tofu. The food court really misses a pho place. Ruby thai noodles are ok but really not anywhere close to "good". Their soup base which is the main part does taste much. There is no hoison sauce or spicy sauce on the side to make it up either. I still go there since I dont know any better alternatives but it doesn't taste too great. read more

First visit was disappointing. I ordered a veggie combo for 7.56 inclusive of tax. The noodles were good, not over-salted. The green beans were tasty. The disappointment came from the eggplant. The lines for the custom ordered soup or noodle dishes are absolute bedlam - had no idea where to line up and where to order and there are at least ten other people at lunch who also are just as confused. Ordered from the pre-made bar a few times. Really good Manchu-wok/Szechuan style food. Ordered from the soup bar once, not overly impressed. My friend ended up with food poisoning that afternoon. I thought it would be fun to try a new place and Ruby Thai looked promising. I bought a 2-item meal and it was pretty tasty. When I was almost done my meal I chewed something extremely hard and sharp. I took it out of my mouth and it was a sharp black shard. it looked like it came off of a wok or pan. My friends convinced me to complain which I hate doing, so I brought it by to let them know. The woman there proceeded to laugh and said "you basically finished". And I told her that I can't choose when I chew on metal in my food. She said it came off the black takeout container. I told her try to bend it, that is not plastic. She kept laughing and said "so you want more food?". I said no and you wouldn't be laughing if I had swallowed that. She then went to the cash register, gave me a refund (for a 1 piece meal, not 2) and shooed me off. Needless to say I will never visit this restaurant again and advise anyone who values their health to do the same. read more

If I could give it ZERO stars I would. Efficient staff but I paid $8.91 for a shrimp wonton soup that only had TWO wontons in it. Broth had too much lemongrass in it and was so strong in lemon flavour that it was inedible. Went back to complain and they didn't do anything. read more

So I really like the noodle soup at this place . Mostly the Tom Yum but I have to say that the service here is terrible there is this lady who works at the noodle soup place the (First Lady in line)who is always yelling at you. There is a line of about 3 of them managing that station and they are all yelling questions at you all at the same time asking what meat , veggies , drink all at the same time. I know they want to be fast but that's ridiculous . The service is very off putting, the food is decent but the service is what gives them a 3 star only . read more
