This review is purely for their sandwiches --- the chicken avocado sandwich has the tiniest sliver of chicken in between 2 fat slices of bread. A good sandwich has the right proportion of bread to filling, this one is skewed on the bread heavy side, leaving one feeling quite bloated. It definitely didn't used to be like this but is consistent as of lately, and I have been coming here for 6 years, since I work down the street. I would suggest the veggie go Greek pita, or the chicken fuego sandwich, you get a little more for your money and better filling to bread ratio! read more

I've been twice. It's a 4min walk from my work so I figured I'd try it out. My first time I went in and tried out their blend vanilla latte and a coffee cake and the total was almost $10bucks which blew my mind. Don't get me wrong the drink and coffee was delicious but gezzz super pricey. So I told myself I won't waste my money. My second time, I wanted the blended drink again, hehehe...and decided to try out the roasted chicken and avocado sandwich, looked yummy. I looked at the photos previous helpers posted and the sandwich on the menu said $7.50 so I figured, not bad for lunch. I go in ordered the sandwich and of course the yummy expensive blended vanilla latte and some chips. The total came out to be $17bucks?!?!?! I mean, it's good but really not worth it. I came back to the break room to eat my sandwich and you'll see why I'm upset. For a sandwich that cost me $10bucks you would think it'd have a good portion of chicken, but nope half of my sandwich there wasn't even much...Anyway, I wish the blended latte wasn't so expensive because it's yummy. It was 9:15, you'd thank considering there were only three customers in the place (me being one of the three). I could get a BLT in a reasonable amount of time. I just went into Ruby's for the first time in forever and it's going to be awhile before I go back. The food was fine, I got a croissant sandwich $6.85 (comes with 2 items and I got egg & bacon) and a small mocha with vanilla which must have been over $8 because the total was $15.45. That's absurd! This experience is a shame because it's nice having a cafe in the neighborhood and Thomas, who has been working there forever, is a ray of sunshine. The space is hip and trendy and the servers/cashier was nice. Place was empty when I got there at 11 am. I went here to pick up a vegetarian sandwich since all my coworkers were hyping this place up. PLEASE do not get the grilled eggplant and artichoke. I swear I hear them use the microwave not long after ordering. Gordon Ramsey will be disappointed. The "French panini" was soggy on the inside and dry and tough on the outside and not served hot (just warm) . Overall, overpriced microwaved sandwich. Absolutely love this spot!!! All of the staff are SUPER friendly and the food is great!!! I usually just get an iced latte with oat milk and it is delicious every time. My pup likes to come here too because they give dog treats - he likes to carry his all the way home (nearly 1 mile walk) I was chatting with (i believe it is the manager, super sweet older gentleman) and he hands me a couple of more bones and says just in case he drops that one on the way home. I dunno about you but any place that is super kind to my dog, has a special place in my heart. My partner and I have gotten sandwiches from them a few times before, too. My favorite is the chicken pesto on a croissant add bacon and avo. literally a giant portion good for 2 people or lunch and a midday snack. Today, I ordered the lox bagel with cream cheese for pick-up and and then I was told it was $12.75. But for a bagel with a skimpy amount of Lox and 6 thick slices of tomato, slimy red onions, and questionable capers--the price is very questionable. It came with a slightly brown lettuce leaf that is supposed to accompany the "dish." Seriously, $12.75 for an edible bagel with tomato?1?! It was a bagel with TOMATO and a hint of cream cheese and lox. I can get better and cheaper lox bagels in the surrounding area. Hence, San Francisco even has cheaper lox bagels with a reasonable amount of lox. TOMATO BAGEL WITH A HINT OF LOX. When I ask for lox and a bagel I expect it to be worth every one of my dimes and to satisfy and delight me in every way. I have given this place multiple chances and thought that it was an "OK" place to go to get myself out of the office. I've been here a few times over the year. This morning I popped in and it was too lovely not to give it the 5 stars it deserves. Foremost, the people. Xitlalt (apologies in advance if i messed up the spelling) and Tomas are rock stars. Friendly, great service, and responsive to special requests. It doesn't get any better than that! I could go on about the double espresso, the breakfast sandwiches and the 'to go' special order, but really, just get yourself over there and experience it yourself. I frequent this cafe for lunch since it is near my office and everyone here is Stellar! and the food is Stellar! I just came back from a team lunch, we sat in the cafe today rather then grabbing and going. I had the asaragus soup and garden salad - both so yummy! This place is soup, salad or sandwhich and they have daily specials. Service was quick and super friendly, as usual! (we beat the lunch rush by a couple minutes.) We run down here all the time for latte's too when in dier need of caffiene fixes. The focaccia (sp?) bread is a solid choice and the chicken was nice, tender and smack full of flavor. Just like my love, baby. And, to reference Tanisha's review again, she didn't get any dessert. I had some kind of blueberry coffee cake and it was really, really good. And I'm definitely going back to get one of those white chocolate chip cookies. read more

I just started working in E-Ville so I'm not that sure what's available to me yet. Ruby's had always been a drive-by for me..that mysterious place that is never open when I seem to be hungry in the area. Now that my man can meet me for lunch we decided to give it a try. I feel bad, there weren't that many veggie options outside of a few salads, and yes, if you don't like Greek, then you're out of luck. Although, I'm one who could probably exist on potato chips and smoothies alone. I do not recommend that though. I had the chicken breast on focaccia with avocado spread. I have to say, it was the softest yummiest bread and most moist meat (say that 3x fast) I've had in a while. I won't say I'll never go back, since I would want to try the salad and other sammiches. I go to Ruby's frequently because I live close by and it's one of the few options available. Their menu has grown over time and is pretty good now. When I have time to get breakfast at Ruby's it's always a great start to the day. However the service is pretty much awful. There's a woman at the register most every time I go. She does not smile or even speak. I say hello and thank her when she hands me my change and she just stares away in silence. Bread sandwich? uh-uh. I've given this place many, many tries, since I work a couple blocks away. Today's sandwich 'inspired' me to leave some feedback. Sure, it sort of got under my skin when they started charging for substitutions (hold the tomato, add onion (80¢?!)), but the sandwiches here have been hit or miss. Today's regular menu chicken sammy on Foccacia (I asked to sub for sourdough - and paid for it) not only had tomatoes, but was by and far a bunch of bread. For a tidy $8.30. Maybe it's inflation, but the value just isn't there. This area in Emeryville needs a half-way decent deli badly, and unfortunately, this place isn't even close. read more
