One of the last places at South Coast Plaza where you can buy a comfort food at a decent price. I always like to stop here with my boyfriend for their classic smoothies when we are exiting the mall. Portions at ruby's are always big. One dislike is that shrimp/fish sticks tend to have the same taste. I think they may be fried in the same oil and prepped the same way. You can order one or the other but they both come with tartar sauce, so if you had to choose one, get the most price effective one. These can be shared easily. read more

Heard that Ruby's had good burgers. It's a diner style cafe. I ordered the BLTA and my husband got the patty melt. The food came out quick and this was by far the best bacon lettuce tomato avocado sandwich I've had in awhile. It was on a Parmesan crusted sourdough bread with mayo. The avocado was fresh and the bacon was thick and plentiful. The French fries tasted delicious as well. Rubys diner exceeded my expectations and am happy to have eaten here. read more

This was my first time coming to this location. This is located inside of south coast plaza mall. I honestly love their guacamole burger HANDS DOWN. Their fries are delicious and great seasoning. Their guacamole is delicious pack with tons of flavors. The service was fast & server was really nice and friendly. We recently visited this location on October 28th with our grand children. It was a wonderful experience. Nataly E. was our server and she was pleasant and helpful. The children enjoyed the cardboard cars. Both thoroughly enjoyed their meals also! Mac Cheese with apple slices and a hot dog with apple slices. We shared a Turkey Club sandwich. It was tasty and half a sandwich each was more than enough food. Nice that it is carved turkey breast meat and NOT a deli meat. We have been going to this location for many years and it never disappoints. Clean, good food, and lovely service. We would visit more often, if it wasn't so far from home. I love Ruby's Diner. It brings back memories of when I was raising my children in Tustin CA. When my husband was gone for dinner we would go. I also use to take my husband's parents to the one that used to to be in Anaheim Hills CA. Although they are few and far between I make use to stop at the Ruby's still remaining. During this summer I enjoyed a wonderful classic hamburger lunch in South Laguna, CA and yesterday another yummy lunch at your cute place in Costa Mesa at the Crystal Court Mall. I have not been to a Ruby's for quite some time as the one closest to me closed on the Huntington Beach pier! I was at south coast and needed to wait an hour for a phone repair at Apple in the evening, so decided to stop by at Ruby's for dinner w/ my dad. The place was surprisingly filled on a random Tuesday night at 7pm. We got a table right away. Hostess and server were friendly. My chicken tender meal was more expensive than I remember ($14 or so) but it was also a lot bigger than I remember.....5 chicken tenders, fries and came with cole slaw as well. I could not even finish this meal, so for the price it isn't bad. You might be able to share this meal between two kids or adults. I like how they serve breakfast all day, and my dad ordered their corn beef hash dish. This was also a larger portion that my dad enjoyed. Two meals + 1 soda was $31. Not the cheapest, but also felt nice to have a sit down casual dinner at the mall. Not all of these restaurants survive being in an indoor space, like south coast, but I'm glad Ruby's is still here! The food is great and reasonably priced. We are a bit sad they took away the endless fries but no big deal as the portion sizes were still reasonable. The reason for the 2 star review is because of our obnoxious, impatient and condescending waiter tonight, Juan G. We were guided to our seats and before we had time to put our stuff down, we were handed menus and immediately asked us if we were ready to order. Please keep in mind we were not given the chance to open the menus yet so we politely asked him to allow us a few minutes to look and if he could kindly get us a couple of waters for the table. He comes back 30 seconds later with the water and impatiently asked us if we were ready to order now. We then politely told him again to please allow us a few minutes to look through the menu. He then comes back and takes our order and throughout this process he repeatedly cuts us off mid sentence only to get our order wrong when we asked him to repeat it. Our food arrives and within 10 minutes of eating (my partner and I were only half way through our food) he hands us our check and sardonically thanks us for dining with them today. At this stage my partner and I no longer felt welcomed so we quickly finished the rest of our food and paid the bill. When he came back with the receipt, he throws the folder pad right onto the table, grabs our baskets, and in a patronizing tone, bids us a goodbye. The restaurant was not at full capacity and there was no line for him to behave in this type of manner. My partner and I never feel entitled to receiving superior customer service at any restaurant but we firmly believe there has to be a certain level of professionalism and respect carried out in these environments. We still love coming to Rubys but if we see that our server is a Juan G again, we will be politely requesting a swap as we will not be tolerating this behavior again. read more

Unfortunately not the same anymore. This store is no longer Corporate owned, it's independently owned, which means there's allowance for deviation from the regular menu items. Overall the menu is smaller. They no longer have the classic beignets, instead they have sweet cheese beignets. The cinnamon roll french toast seems like they've sourced a different kind of cinnamon roll for it. I've yet to try other breakfast items to see if they're the same or not. What has happened to this place ? Have been going here since it opened. Today we ordered 2 Super Burgers, as always, but it was tasteless meat on burnt sourdough. They remade it for us but wasn't any better. Mint "Malt" lacked malt and mint flavor. Very disappointing. read more

10/24/2024 4:00pm I will never come back to this place ever. First off extremely slow service. It's never crowded, but you sit there forever waiting for the server to come. Our server only took our order and we waited 15 mins after getting food so I can ask for a ranch: That's the only thing she did. Someone else brought our drinks and food. Waited 30 mins for the bill. The bill was $50 dollars, I put $70 in and said I'm paying cash so just give me the change. 20+ mins went by not a single employee came by, the server was gone and I didn't even see her. I guess she thinks she automatically gets to keep all the change which is a $20 tip for doing almost nothing???? Wow. Won't be back. Kinda scummy thing to do. read more
