Ordered on line food was not ready for an hour. Left out side order of salad and dressing. Ordered fish and chips and they didn't give me French fries. Ordered garden scramble and they forgot to put in spinach. Got to Rubies 10 minutes later than what app said it would be ready which was supposed to be 4:57 pm. When I tried to pick up order at 5:10 lady manager told me food wasn't ready and it would be 15- 20 more minutes because she just received order. Which was not true. I ordered good at 4:45 pm. Why lie to me? I waited for an hour. I see the manager lady walking in back eating soft serve ice cream out of a cup while working and the restaurant is really busy. I finally went to front to- go desk and asked where my food was because there was a few take out boxes by desk. He checked and half of my order was there and he went to check on rest of order. When he came back I checked my order and it was missing side salad and French fries in my fish and chips. Worst service I've ever come across at a restaurant. There are too many workers standing around and is managed terrible. I will never go back there to eat. Oh, by the way tonight was supposed to be a fundraiser for Elementary school in Whittier and they didnt even ask for 20 per cent flyer. Finally was able to try this place. My son's school has fundraisers here and I always see their ads on Facebook. Went in about 1:30 on a Wednesday. Everyone was very friendly. Started out with some fried calamari. They were delicious. Even my extremely picky 10 year old loved them. I ordered the cod sandwich. It came with a good amount of fries. I got full from the fries and calamari so I took my sandwich home. I ate it about 7pm and it was so delicious. Super soft bun. I can only imagine how it would have tasted when it was warm. Warm or cold, I would definitely have it again. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich. He had onion rIngs instead of fries and a side salad. He also took his sandwich home. He ended up eating his the next day and loved it. My son had the Mac and Cheese with fries. He ate every last bite. He never likes it at restaurants but he loved theirs. We definitely will be back. I ordered delivery. I got two burgers,a tuna melt, fish and chips, clam chowder and strawberry shake. The food was delivered at my doorstep. The shake had the straw and a spoon stuck inside the cup with the straw left uncovered. It was not even in a bag. The clam chowder was so thick ; it looks like days old. The fish was tough and it was undercooked. I had to heat it up in the oven so I could bite into it. I was so disappointed. Most of the fish and chips and the clam chowder ended up in the garbage. I was afraid to even eat/drink the shake because I wasn't sure if it was safe to eat . I love Ruby's Diner a 50s classic diner that take you back to good old days I recommend their milkshakes

This was my first time every eating at a Ruby's Diner, walked in was greeted and sat immediatly at a table. Server was quick and friendly. Food was delicious awesome flavors and cooked to perfection. Shakes were probably the best part of the food, great value for what you pay no need to ask for a refill on a shake. Server was attentive to any concerns. My sister and I frequent Ruby's once or twice a week because they are PERFECT in the way they prepare their food and their overall great customer service and friendliness always makes for an awesome, family-oriented atmosphere there. The servers are always polite and courteous. Especially NIK. Out of all the places I've dined at, NIK is by far the coolest server my sister & I have experienced. NIK, just like the other servers, will answer any questions about the menu and are very thorough with making sure your drinks are refilled. And making sure the diners are enjoying their meals. Our server was Melissa. I don't know if she's new or is just a bad server but I will never be returning to this Rubys. I should have gone to Red Robin. I ordered a burger & the only modifications I made was no sauce & to change the type of cheese (Swiss to American). My burger came out with Swiss cheese & with a ton of Rubys sauce. I told my server and they changed the buns to get the sauce off but there was still sauce on my lettuce but apparently that wasn't important because it was left on... and they switched the cheese but when my burger was brought out, the American cheese was cold & hard. I asked Melissa if there was a way to please have my cheese be melted a little bit so it wasn't hard and guess what she did? She put my ENTIRE burger in the microwave! Haha! Seriously I'm not lying I wish I was making this up! My tomatoes were soggy, burger fallen apart & it was just so bad & she had the nerve to ask if that was better! Haha! I told her no to just please take it back because at this point, the rest of my group had finished eating. She didn't seem to even care! Wow! I asked for a manager & she was no where to be found until after we paid. Yes that's right she never took the burger off the bill...We still left a tip but man I hope they read these reviews because I will never be back and believe me when I say this is my brothers favorite burger chain so it's tough to avoid it but red robin is closer to home anyway! We took our mom here for Mother's Day because my brothers and I did not make reservations, Ruby's was mom's idea and a great one since we only had to wait for 2 minutes to get seated, which is unheard of on Mother's Day. My mom had the BLTA (has avocado!), my older brother had the steak and mashed potatoes (had a bite of the potatoes and they were delicious!) and my younger bro and I had the hamburgers that came with UNLIMITED FRIES!! UNLIMITED! For a small price they will add some toppings to your fries like garlic of blue cheese. read more

decent place for breakfast with decent service. i had the deluxe corned beef hash and eggs with their "famous RubySpuds" and toast. the corned beef hash was pretty greasy which i guess is why i was pretty good, you can't really mess up eggs and they were pretty good and the spuds were probably the best part of the meal. overall this place was just your standard coffee shop and there was nothing really special about this place that would make me eat here over carrows or cocos unless i woke up one day and was really craving a restaurant with a theme. read more

My mothers day experience yesterday was not well. Will I go back, maybe. . . but right now I am currently boycotting my return here. When we arrived it was not as packed as restaurants normally are on mothers day, but it quickly filled up. I ordered the deluxe corned beef and hash breakfast. I had it before and loved it. Today, the potatoes had not seasoning and was missing the onions and bell peppers that it normally has. If that wasn't enough, when I opened the jelly, there was mold in it. I informed our waitress, whom I believe was the manager and she said she would look into it. Mind you this was after switching from a sick waiter whose eyes were red, nose had post nasal drip, and my mother pointed this out to him so we requested a new waiter/waitress. Needless to say, one of my favorite places to go is now one of my least favorites which was disappointing. I do believe they were just overwhelmed from the crowd on mothers day. Ruby's Diner - Corned beef hash breakfast - Diners Near Me - Whittier, California

Came for a daddy daughter date with my youngest. The initial service was good, but as our meal progressed it became lacking. Our waitress was kind, don't get me wrong...I think there were just too many tables under her care because it is a weeknight. As far as the food is concerned, my dish: Santa Fe burger, I subbed the Parmesan sourdough bread for the bun. The lettuce on my burger was disgusting though. It was wilted/old. I'm not sure if they assembled the burger and then toasted the sourdough...perhaps the heat from the grill destroyed my lettuce? I don't know...I had to remove the lettuce though because it wasn't edible. Fries were fine, the rest of the burger was average. My daughters plate: Shrimp and chips. The shrimp were tasty, although the coloring of the breading was dark, as if they had been burnt. Not a deal killer, but I expect better for a $14 plate. The cole slaw was average. Fries again, were fine. The highlight of our meal was we split a strawberry shake...good shake, the best part though...a straw like a boba straw... It was big around, made it easy to drink the shake! Cool! Overall, experience needs to be better. Not sure I want to return. May take the extra drive to Rocky Cola in uptown for our 50's diner experience next time. read more

My boyfriend got a $25 giftcard for this place so we decided to check it out. Inside the decorations were cute .the food was expensive nothing under $10. The gift card didn't even cover half our bill. Everyone at out table couldn't eat our fries they were way too salty. I told the waitress but she just said sorry about that . Had dinner here the other night for their 31st Anniversary. They were offering their new hamburger and fries for $3.10 for the 31st Anniversary. Today I ordered the apple pecan Salad without the chicken. It was ok, a little sparse on the apple and pecans. When the bill came we were charged for coffee and drinks that we didn't order and there was no discount for not getting the chicken on the salad. I had gotten this discount in other Ruby locations. We were told there was no discount. So we asked to have the chicken added to my take home box. We were told they'd have to cook it. We won't be back. Disappointed!! Went in on a Friday morning waited over 20 minutes for a table there was literally 7 tables available ( I counted) in the dining area. Only 2 tables occupied in the patio I asked if we could be seated outside and hostesses ( who is horrible & rude) informed me there was "No tables available ". Really!!! We waited about 15 mins until we were greeted by our server who apologized for being short staffed & took our order at once: 4 meals 2 appetizers 2 shakes & waters. 15min later we received our waters & shakes. During our wait we saw many frustrated people get specific things or ask questions at the counter. 45 min later we get most of our order from the hostess & mentioned we still were missing our buffalo wings. She said she'd check. We were missing utensils so my husband walked up to the counter to get them. So food was good but the atmosphere was not due to the situation. We finish our food & no buffalo wings in sight. We finally flagged our busy waiter & tell him we never got our wings to which he replied "I'm sorry about that, I'll make sure to remove it from your bill." I was there probably during Christmas over 6 months ago and I had coffee and I had a glass of soda. My glass had lipstick on it and my coffee glass had lipstick too. I brought it to the attention of the waitress and she kind of just laughed and said they're washed in the machine and the Machine doesn't always get the lipstick stains . She said unless there's somebody there watching dishes and cup1s getting washed sometimes that happens. At the end I thought you would take it off my bill and she did not I have to request for her to take it off my bill. The food is always good I cannot complain. I have not been there since. Ruby's now has GLUTEN FREE buns as an option! They use Udi brand, which is probably the best mass produced gluten free bakery right now. It's not as good as non-gluten-free bun of course, but it's not bad. read more

Granted, the food is not four stars, but so often, aren't we looking for the experience? My kids love Ruby's for the shakes and 50s diner feel, but I love this location for the great experience. We celebrated my 9 year old's birthday there with friends. I called ahead to ask if I could bring a cake and use candles. When we got there, they had set up a large booth with balloons, took the cake I brought in and stored it in the fridge, then brought it out lit and all the wait staff came to sing for him. They brought plates and a server and offered to help. Mind you, we hadn't planned a party there, we were just showing up for dinner and they went way beyond the extra mile!
