Came out with the family to celebrate my father's good news. First impression as it was our first time here was the staff was pretty friendly and it looked clean. I ordered the New York steak medium well with rice pilaf and a salad with ranch. My food also came with corn and 2 onion rings. I received my steak and it was medium rare, I decided to just eat it. The steak was okay, the rice was disgusting, it was not rice pilaf at all. It was some sort of orange rice that was lacking flavor and tasted rubbery. The corn was your basic corn no flavor. The onion rings were just okay. The salad was extremely watered down, you couldn't even taste the ranch as it was drowned in water. The only thing I liked from this place was the banana shake and the service. I do not see us returning to this place as we were very let down.

This restaurant has been around for 33 years. It's historical in Whittier, Ca. They make homemade traditional food from scratch. I ordered the chicken and waffle breakfast for my first time with egg whites and it was good. The pancakes were soft and fluffy with good flavor. The chicken was moist and crunchy and the eggs were good. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere gives you a 1950's style with cool artifacts. I will be a returning customer. Note: They have daily specials and they are open 6am till 1030pm. Prices are very economical and you get huge quantities of food.

It has been some time being away from Jack's Restaurant and was able to make some yesterday around 12:30pm. Its always busy but especially on a Sunday had to wait about 30 minutes. Got a booth and again they provide great food. I ordered the wonderful Blueberry Pancakes which are always good but this particular batch was amazing with plenty of blueberries baked inside the pancakes. Great service and food makes for a great combination.

Parking kinda limited. Bathroom very clean. Place very clean staff very friendly. They have limited drinks beer and wine. Plenty of items to order. Love you can have breakfast anytime. Had the dinner special which was the top sirloin, green beans, baked potato, cheese bread. Had the vegetable beef soup wow loved this whole meal. Add strawberry cheesecake ice cream it was awesome. This place gets five stars. It's worth checking out when you're with your in Whittier.

Country Fried steak. I definitely recommend.

The dish didn't quite meet my expectations. The flavors felt a bit unbalanced. It was prepared well, but it lacked depth. The execution was solid, though the taste was underwhelming. The service was quite slow and felt a bit unorganized. It wasn't very clear where customers were supposed to sit, which made the experience somewhat confusing. After being seated, it also took a while before my order was taken. The space feels somewhat dated, and a more streamlined décor could really enhance the overall atmosphere.

I've decided to take up visiting diners once a week on Saturdays on my mini moto and Jack's Whittier was the first one on my list! Hopefully not the last as I look to continue my own little Saturday tradition. Anyway, I'm a sucker for old architecture from the older days. The buildings, the decor, the vibe - it all has so much more character compared to what we have today. That's what drew me here to begin with. More importantly, the food was good. I ordered a Denver omelette and thankfully I was able to substitute some items for a few slices of tomatoes and iceberg lettuce (doing a low-carb thing right now). The omelette was cooked just right. Not rubbery, not dry, and not under. Not going to lie though, I wish I wasn't on a diet because I absolutely love greasy diner food and I'm certain they would have not disappointed. Service was really friendly and the food came out quick! I got the best seat in house too since I wanted to dine at the countertop. I got a nice little backdrop for my photos too. Hoping to come back in the near future NOT on a diet to experience deliciousness.

Originally opened in 1933 I drove from West LA specifically for this diner and I'm very happy that I did so. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County and next on the list was Jack's. I was excited to try it based on how many decades it's been open and also just from the pictures I could tell this sort of architecture and vibe that I want to see for a diner breakfast. They have a parking lot attached with free parking and even though it was crowded we were able to be seated after about a 5 min wait. Our server was extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. The interior looks like a true LA retro diner with the Googie architecture and plenty of booth and counter seating. Since it was opened prior to the 1950s, it doesn't have the rock 'n' roll theme which I was glad to see since a lot of the newer diners copy that 1950s aesthetic. They have a very large menu so it was hard to choose what I wanted to order but I settled on the Steak Skillet because I'd read a lot of great reviews about it. I will say that it is very good and the steak is very tender and flavorful. They don't skimp on the portion sizes and overall I was very happy with the dish. We also ordered some bakery items and everything was very tasty and made us want to visit again soon. I would definitely recommend to any fan of diners or to anyone in the area searching for a great breakfast or lunch option.

Menu was varied and interesting with some specialties, sandwiches, and salmon. Prices were fair for these times. I had the strawberry goat cheese salad and the baked dinner rolls with sweet butter. Service was friendly, helpful, and efficient. This is a tiny gem in Uptown. They've been open about a year. I hope people will discover and enjoy it like we did. But I've learned that if I order my steaks rare or even blue rare at a place not known for their steaks, it comes out to the desired medium rare I wanted all along. Such was the case tonight. I asked for rare but it came out closer to medium rare--maybe even dipping into medium. No big whoop. The baseball steak was still juicy and delicious. The fries were still great shoestring. And I can live with a chimichurri sauce instead of the preferable hollandaise or bearnaise these usually come with. I just wish I could actually ask for a medium rare and get medium at a food joint other than where it costs me $60 or $70 a cut. The service was good. She was pleasant and quick on her feet. The ambience was good. It was a quaint space and had a lot of charm. I can't say it was too full but I attribute that more to the day being full of sporting events like the World Cup and some silly NBA thing than an actually critique of the restaurant. Subsequently, I found this a good place for dinner but not superb and I found myself wondering when the next like fate might bring me here.

You walk in, and you order at the counter. From there, they will tell you where to sit, and then they bring out the food to you. I don't love the concept, because you're not really given time to study the menu and decide on what you want. Luckily, we already knew what we wanted for our entrees, but didn't really get the chance to review beverages or sides, so we went without either. We ordered the chicken and waffles, and the breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito was fine, and was a generous size; the salsa that came with it just tasted like a chipotle cholula. The chicken and waffles really did blow me away though. The chicken strips were so flavorful, and worked with both the syrup and the white gravy that they provide; only downside was that the chicken was a little stringy and chewy for my taste. When you are sat down, they bring you a bottle of water so that you can pour yourself the water. After that, no one really checks in on you. Which is a bit of an issue, since we did run out of water by the time we were done with the food. And if you wanted to order more food afterwards, you're kind of out of luck. And you tip at the counter before you even sit down? Just a bit illogical from a consumer perspective. Maybe it's because I came a little earlier in the morning, but it was pretty quiet atmosphere, in a good way. It had enough people where it wasn't an awkward silence, but not so loud that you'd have to raise your voice to communicate across the table. My biggest issue is with the prices here. $17 for a burrito, $19 for the chicken and waffles. And this is before tax/tip, for an establishment where their only job is to bring you the food, without really checking up on you afterwards. Menu prices just seemed a little steep, considering that they're not operating with the same amount of service as a full sit-down restaurant experience. I'd come back, but I'd have to be seriously craving the food before willingly paying these prices again.
