Can't show off my nails because of the incision :/ The woman who did my nails was so sweet, and I had a great experience at the salon. Mixed feelings about this place, but it's convenient because they accept walk-ins and I'd probably return, but my first experience honestly wasn't ideal. TL;DR: Had extremely rude interaction with and bad nails done by the manager, Anna, but I think other nail artists are fine. Terry was super good with shaping nails/builder gel structure & the two other nail artists who fixed the polish coats were also great. Long version: I booked on a Saturday with Terry, ended up being 30 mins late due to traffic, so I totally understand the appointment was a bit rushed. But how my nails looked after was actually so bad--nail polish was lumpy and differing levels of sheer, edges were super messy and nowhere near the cuticle (also had to pay $10 extra for a cuticle trim...), and Terry told me she didn't have time to fix my nails until later on. I think that's somewhat understandable, but I obviously have my own things to do, and I don't think it's reasonable to ask someone to come back in 2 hours to fix nails. I'd much rather just have someone else fix them. Anyways, I really felt worse and worse about how the nails looked because I feel like the price was honestly pretty hefty--$75 for single-color builder gel refill--and my nails were genuinely the worst they've ever looked. They also wouldn't let me test different colors on my nails. So, I called and asked to have my nails completely fixed, and the manager, Anna, on the phone was quite rude. She basically just said, "Well, we can't see your nails so I can't say if we can fix it or how long it will take, but you can come back in 15 minutes." I went back, had to wait probably 20-25 minutes in the salon, and then the manager started fixing my nails. I have multiple issues with how she did this. First, she was super rough and also just essentially condescending to me, saying "That's just how nails are done; they can't put the polish further back to the cuticle" (my nails looked like 10+ days grown out even though I had them done less than an hour ago at that point). She also said the sheer/opaque issue was because of the polish color I chose (Terry explicitly told me that color was not sheer). The manager did an even worse job of painting my nails than before and got mad that I wanted to look at how the coat looked before putting it under UV--at which point it would obviously be unfixable. She told me very rudely, "All nail polishes look like that after one coat; this isn't going to work out because you're already looking at your nails and unsatisfied" (I literally didn't even say anything about the coat), "and I know you're going to write a bad review, so do you want me to refund you the cost of the polish?" (which literally would barely make a dent in my total--and why would I want to have scuffed nails after paying so much and wasting so much time???). Then she basically said, "Yeah, no, you can't do this color. Obviously, you don't like it." Okay, why would I pick it then? And if you offer it as a color, you should be able to paint even coats of it. Anyways, at this point another employee was like, "Let me try to help fix it." She painted the first coat so much more evenly, which I think further proves that the manager was just trying to gaslight me and rush me out, and I was super satisfied with how it ended up turning out. I will say at this point I probably wasted 3.5 hours just getting my nails done that day. She was also super sweet because I literally started tearing up from frustration from dealing with the manager, and at the end she asked if I wanted a hug. I wish I got her name, but she was amazing. A week later, one of my thumbs chipped. I came back and had it fixed pretty quickly by someone else who was also very sweet and much more capable than the manager. I think because of the two better experiences I had, I would come back--but if it had just been the manager treating me like that and fixing my nails so badly, I 100% would've rated 0 stars and never even thought about coming back. Vibe of the place, I mean it's not like a high end spa, it's pretty in and out, lots of people on Fri/Sat, smell of gel polish/acrylic pretty strong, pretty loud. read more

I've been going to Ruby's for years since they're very close to Northeastern and participate in fundraisers with clubs there. All the ladies are so sweet and it always feels good when they remember your name. My dip lasts 3-4 weeks and they take a few bucks off if you pay with cash + don't usually charge extra for one added tip or detail like other places do. I highly suggest the techs that have been working there a while compared to the newer ones. Some names are Kelly, Kim, Anna, and Nun. This place is incredible. The employees are so nice and attentive and focused on giving you an enjoyable experience. I got a gel manicure and gel pedicure. My biggest anxiety was getting a pedicure because I admittedly have a strong aversion to people touching my feet, but the tech who worked with me was gentle and patient with me during the process. They also had massage chairs and a nice bath to soak feet in, and they give you a nice scrub and lotion rubdown before and after. I used to come here every 2-3 weeks for almost a year. They were always reasonably priced for a decent manicure. I took a break from getting my nails done for my nail health and recently started coming back and my experience has been terrible. They got new polish sets that are terrible quality. My gel nails used to last three weeks, and my recent gel manicure started lifting in less than a week. I also got a regular polish pedicure that chipped the next day. It was also very hot inside and lots of flies so it wasn't a very relaxing experience. This used to be my go to, hidden gem spot, but unfortunately I will no longer be coming back. read more

Returned today for a dip powder first try! I think I'll be coming back, they look really good imo! I'm in love with dip powder and how my nails look. I've never gotten dip powder anywhere else, but for $35 I cannot complain. My friends have all gushed how perfect my nails look lol My nail tech was so nice to always ask me if I was okay with the nail shape. I always thought I'm not picky but actually I am, and I asked him to make the oval shape a bit pointier and he was very accommodating and took his time to make sure they were all even and looked the same. My only concern was the cuticle care was done completely dry and I'm sure there's a reason behind it, but it felt a bit harrowing on my poor cuticles. It wasn't painful, just felt uncomfortable. I love this spot! You can't call ahead and make a reservation, but every time I have come in, I've only had to wait at most 30-45 minutes with most of the time the wait being around 15-20 minutes when there's a lot of NEU students around, especially on a Friday. Any person you go to here does a great job of a gel manicure ($27) and pedicure ($28). When you pay cash, they give you a little card that they stamp and after your 5th visit, you get $10 off. So it's definitely worth it to pay cash (you can leave a tip by Venmo-ing them as well!) They have a huge selection of gel polish colors (with matching regular colors on the wall for your feet indicated by a sticker). They always take their time with the manicures, do 3 gel coats when I ask, and make sure that the pedicure isn't rushed. Everything is clean and they use one-time sandals, one-time plastic bags, and one-time toe separators/buffers. I've seen about 3-4 different people there, but the guy (I forgot his name) is my favorite! Definitely check this place out if you're looking for a new nail salon. read more

I came here on my half-day at around 12:30 and only waited 15 minutes! The ladies here are very nice and work diligently. It was my first time getting a dip manicure, as I've always chosen gel. This is my 4th time there. The guy there is the best. The older lady is the worst and that's who I got. Several of my lines aren't clean. And I'm pretty mad about my thumb. Originally the base line was super crooked and I asked her to fix it. When she was fixing it, she put an air bubble on the nail. I had to ask her to fix that too, but she made a very apparent line on my nail. Then, she left my at the air drying place and went to go help another customer. Came here in pinch last Friday for a powder dip, pedi, eyebrow wax and lash extensions. Ladies when you choose to spend that much money at a place you expect a certain level of service. Now to be fair it was Friday and not just any Friday but the one before Valentine's Day. Room for improvement: I called ahead after seeing a promotion on their website for lash extensions. I spoke to Kelly who told me coming in at 3 would be fine and asked that I bring cash for the lashes as she would be the person performing that service. What I didn't know was, they don't accept appointments. When I got in I was told to sign my name in a book and list the services I wanted and essentially wait in line. I waited for an hour!!! I started looking up other salons to go to by the time I was called. That whole hour I never saw Kelly, I was told she was doing someone else's lashes. By the time one of the staff came to start my pedi they asked me to confirm my name and services in the book and it had been scratched out. That could have contributed to my long wait idk. My first time coming here was this past Sunday. I really wanted my nails done over the weekend and my usual spot is closed on Sunday's. I could only get my nails done this week if I went somewhere that was open on Sunday's. After some research via Yelp I found this place. There was definitely nothing glamorous about the place but when I came in I was immediately greeted and given a wait time. I patiently waited my turn. I only had to wait about 10 minutes and I was put in a chair. The girl who helped me was polite and at the end she informed me of their rewards program and gave me a card. After 5 visits of spending "x" amount of money you get $10 off. I don't get my nails done all the time but I know I'd probably be back 5 times to get the reward. A full set costs $10 more than my regular spot and the salon is an extra 10-15 minute walk but it's worth it. They had about 5 workers and I didn't feel the work was rushed despite the other customers waiting. I took off a star because my nail tech kept getting up and going into some back room and coming back. Then Jeepers Creepers was on (not the best choice) and she kept stopping to look at it. Also, behind my index finger she let some acrylic dry up without filing and evening it out with the electric file so it snags my hair which is irritating. However, I was getting annoyed with my old nail spot so I'd give this place another chance. My nails look good and now I know what to watch out for. No complaints about pedicures; if you're wearing boots they will wrap your feet so the polish doesn't chip which is a nice gesture. I typically bring my own polish for pedis though, because I feel like their collection isn't that updated. edit: I stopped coming here for eyebrow waxes because regardless of who was doing them, they would always make comments about my eyebrow shape and ask what I did to my eyebrows, which I would 1) be offended by and 2) respond to by saying that the only people waxing my eyebrows were their employees so... On a good note! What I really come here for are the gel manicures because the combination of quality and price is something I haven't been able to find elsewhere in the city. Megan especially is an amazing nail tech! I've gotten designs here before as well and the extra charge for them is so much more reasonable than other salons I've been to (no extra charge for basic accents or one accent nail, which is a major score in my eyes since I've paid up to an additional $20 for manis with accent nails, negative space, etc. elsewhere) My gel manicures often last upwards of 2 full weeks; once, I broke a nail about an hour after I came in for a gel and they fixed it, filed it down and completely repainted it on the spot for no charge! There's a bit of a wait, but they try really hard to minimize the wait. The workers here are amazing! They're efficient and full of energy, but they also take their time to be careful. They're all so sweet and caring. My nails look the best they ever have (and for only $20 for a gel color change? Cheapest I've ever encountered, especially for the quality). This place is great for the budget-conscious. The only thing was that the smell of acetone is really concentrated in the tiny room, especially because there's very little ventilation in the summer time. I can't really blame them. I had a dip removal and gel manicure done yesterday and Trang did an amazing job. The dip manicure I'd gotten done elsewhere was horrible and started lifting after a week, so I was desperate to get them fixed and Trang was extremely patient with getting the dip off and did a perfect application of the gel.
