Honestly, when it comes to German restaurants in the city, three come to mind as the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Black Forest, Zum Stammtisch, and Schnitzel Haus. Then you have the pope, which I think is Heidelberg, and the jester, Radegast. Then you have this place, where does it fit? I am not sure, I cannot place it anywhere. Maybe writing it out, I will have an answer by the end of this review. I like that the service is exceptional and I received everything I ordered without waiting too long. The pretzel is ginormous and the Currywurst is a solid appetizer, but when it comes to schnitzel, how do you not have a veal schnitzel? Only chicken and pork. I told my server I was disappointed not to see a veal schnitzel on the menu (he agreed and said he gets that complaint often). Chicken and pork are okay, but if you want the real deal, go with veal. Yes, that rhyme was 100% intentional. The wursts are tasty, two to an order. I got the Käsekrainer and it is delicious with a nice smoky flavor, but would have liked a little more cheese to balance out the smokiness. The potato salad and red cabbage are nice add-ons to make the dish colorful and offer a good off-shoot from the red meat. I cannot speak for the sauerkraut, since I do not eat sauerkraut. As for the dessert, I got the strudel. The apples are chunky and have good taste. It is a little dry, but this is where ordering the ice cream comes into play. Ordering the ice cream gives it better texture and flavor. Without it, it is essentially apple pie without the pie crust and just snappy apples. So after all that, does this restaurant have a place in the higher echelon of German restaurants in New York? More or less, it can find a home, if you are reasonable and understand what you are getting into, but while it is certainly not a pagan, it certainly does not deserve to be reduced to peasantry. read more

Reichenbach is a great destination for groups large and small. If you're with 20 people, I recommend making reservations. Not beer obsessed (*raises hand*)? They've got a full bar. I do enjoy a solid good ol German bier and pub so we can hear for an early weekend dinner around 5pm. It was actually relatively empty so definitely didn't have to grab a reservation. The gentleman who was our waiter was friendly though one item from our order was forgotten until we checked in on it later down. The food was alright - we ordered sausages and pretzels which came with sauerkraut. While the pretzel was fine the sausages were just ok. I can confirm the beer was enjoyed and they probably helped me enjoy the overall time a little more. The place itself is cute with German inspired aesthetic. Solid experience at this German beer hall in Midtown Manhattan! My daughter and I both had the sauerbraten, and some potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. The food was delicious. We were missing RH touuugh and had to visit last night around 10PM. Our friendly waitress provided quick and friendly service, the inside had a lively vibe. Ordered the Bratfisch Schnitzel (still the only German-style spot in I've seen it at in Manhattan) w/ 2 sides. The must haves are still the Gurkensalat (cucumber salad) + the kartoffelsalat (potato salad) instead of fries. BF gets the vegan wurst plate with red cabbage and sauerkraut. Love both of those too but the sauerkraut my family has made was better. This one needs more tanginess/sourness. Pretzel app with their pungent dijon mustard hits the spot. Dinner plates are a bit expensive imo ($28 for mine and $24 for his) for how small the sides are but with the Midtown location, it makes sense. The drinks menu is fabulous -- tons of German classic beers, fun cocktails and mocktails, German wines, and a mix of German and American hard liquors. They have a lot of tvs, including a huge screen in the back which we watched a football game on and essentially got a private viewing experience since it wasn't busy back there. I wanna reiterate from my past review; this is theee perfect place to hang out with a large group while grabbing drinks and catching a game. The beers range from small to a huge glass BOOT. Despite the fact that I can see the soda gun behind the bar with a club soda button I was told that my only option was to order a can of club soda, which I'm sure was double the cost of a simple Coca-Cola or other soda. Came here on a Saturday afternoon around 3-4pm with a group of friends post lunch . A perfect place to have a beer or two ( or more ) and spend of the afternoon where you do feel like you're celebrating Oktoberfest in Germany, well decorated and the staff were also dressed in lederhosen ( females ). When we first got there, the place was super full , might be a brunch spot . It started to dissipate around 5 but a new slew came in around 7ish . Overall a fun place ,centrally located in midtown , close to major points of interest ( Empire State , subways , Bryant park , etc). Each time, we tried a new brewski and enjoyed the delicious food. One night, we tried the brotzeit charcuterie plate. Though the vegetables were a bit excessive with the sour, we loved the rye bread with meats and cheeses as we enjoyed our lagers. On another evening, we tried the potato pancakes and gurkensalat. Both were perfect, especially the little bit of applesauce to top off the potato pancakes. As a tourist, I appreciated how Reichenbach did the job of providing tasty food with a unique entertainment experience.
