After moving from the East Coast to Seattle, I was worried about finding a barber I could trust again. In New York City I had the same barber for nearly six years. Jake has been that person for me here. In the eight years I have lived in Seattle, he has been my barber the entire time. His cuts are precise, consistent, and always excellent. Gave up on Rudy's for the same reasons as everyone else. Prices skyrocketed and no respect for scheduled appointments. I waited for 15 minutes after arriving 5 minutes early. I've seen the same guy for years. When I expressed frustration about waiting on a scheduled appointment, his response was "my watch battery died". Made an appointment for a trim and fade. From other locations I have visited, it seemed like this was a quality barbershop. I was early for my appointment as to be respectful of the barbers time. Once my appointment time came I saw that Charisse was still with another client. There was not an apologetic "oh I'm sorry I'm running behind" or anything of that matter. Sitting there for 5 mins, still there was no acknowledgment that I was there or even a simple "could we grab you some water while you wait". Ten minutes later, Charisse is still working on their client without any update. After FIFTEEN minutes, I decided that it would be best if I left and spent my money on a different barber and location. Obviously life happens and sometimes lateness happens too. But the lack of customer service left me with a sour taste. So yeah. Even with an appointment, be prepared to wait. read more

Well after decades of coming to Rudy's, this was my last time spending my money here. Apparently, Rudy's now has a fluctuating price based on the stylist that you get. This is only visible if you book via the website? If your cut takes 10 minutes or 10 hours, that is not taken into consideration. Wanna have your hair washed and blow dried or NOT? Also not taken into consideration for pricing. I have a card on file with Rudy's, so I didn't even see what they charged me until I looked at my bank statement. When I called to inquire about this new pricing and just to ask about why my cut was 49$, the person on the phone was combative and totally dismissive. I was then told that I'm the only one that is having this problem....Great customer service team! So yeah, for $49 for a 15 minute men's haircut and terrible customer service? I'll be going somewhere else in the future.... read more

Unfortunately I have tried Rudy's several times in the past couple years and continue to be disappointed with their customer service and inability to provide what they say they will. 10 years ago in cap hill it was great, friendly, good cuts, etc. I made an appointment to get my hair cut short, really short as I do in the summer, I already have a lot of anxiety around getting my hair cut. My hair has grown out and is shoulder length: they offer a short cut service and a long cut service. I looked all over their website to figure out which to select, and based on description chose short cut, because that's what I was getting. Showed up 10 minutes early, sat there. Got into the chair and showed my pictures and the stylist said hang on, walks away, then comes back and says they don't have time to do the cut and I could come back in 3 hours. Which of course I can't do. I don't understand 1) why it's not clear on the website? 2) why a place that takes walk ins can't fit in a haircut that has an appointment even if factors mean it will take extra 10 minutes? And so ends my last of 2-3 "appointments" over the past few years with Rudy's all of which have ended in tears for me, mostly because of the way I'm treated when I go there. (Wonder why I have haircut anxiety?) I hate how they acted like I'm stupid for booking the "wrong" cut when I'd spent a lot of time trying to figure out which one to book! Please fix the website, and make it super clear for others. And maybe don't treat people like inconveniences to be gotten rid of, because that's how I felt when I left. read more

I've been growing out my hair for a couple of years and needed to add some texture and get some basic hair care tips (never had long hair before). On the 1st visit, the stylist said that there was no point to adding any texture...I just needed to let it grow (note: I have thick, wavy hair). On the 2nd visit, I said the same thing to a different stylist--adding that i've had a problem with frizzy hair (I also shared what the 1st stylist said). She agreed that some texturing would help, but then she asked me if I played with my hair a lot, which felt like an odd question to ask a guy. I got a shampoo and rinse, which was great. After that, it felt like the usual "up sell" -- stating that I should buy the RUDY's brand shampoo and conditioner. And get this - she comes back with the hair cream and squeezes a huge amount in her hand, stating that I need the product too. At 20.00 a tube, it makes perfect sense that i'd use that amount in my hair everyday. In short, GUYS -- if you have low porosity (2B) thick hair like mine, and don't have time to mess with your hair in the morning - invest in a decent leave-in conditioner. I spent 9$ on a brand from Bartell's and it's done wonders for my hair. I'll get to the texturing eventually. :/ read more

I always do that and they're always 15+min late seeing me. 10 min into my wait someone came in without an appointment and got seen right away. They've raised their prices now too, way too expensive for a men's haircut that ranges in quality. Won't be back. read more

I happened to be dining at a sushi place and noticed Rudy's across the street from Arigato the restaurant. As I needed a haircut and it said it took walk ins, and after a short wait I was in the chair and soon a nice buzz cut and was out the door Returned at a later date and called for an appointment and Travis took great care of me And again at a later date made an appointment for Travis and again great service I am pretty low key and a haircut is a haircut but on all three visits most professional and asked a lot of questions on my desires For sure when in Seattle this Rudy's is my go to for a superb cut Thank you Jim at Maplelag in Minnesota read more

I really liked this Barbershop. Its a unisex place so anyone can go there for haircuts. I got mine done from Patty and she did an amazing job. It's very difficult to find a good haircut salon in the US that offers good prices as well so this place won it! I have long hair, and was pretty nervous to get a haircut initially. I was able to get a reservation the same day with Brad, and he told me he had been working at this same shop for 22 years! Brad did an awesome job. I showed him a picture of the style I wanted, and he was easily able to mimic the look. Glad I went here, and plan to come back for my next hair cut! You can book your appointment online, and you choose long vs short hair. My long hair cut was ~$60, first time people can get 15% too. There are tiers for haircuts, so there are less expensive options available too. I was glad I could get a haircut so quickly on such short notice, I think I may have been lucky but either way definitely coming back again. read more

Sophie is the BEST!! She works super well with fine hair, always has a smile on her face, and brightens my day every time I see her. I've tried out a couple other hair cutters in the area over the years, but I always come back to her: she's efficient with her time, delicate with hair, and willing to give input where desired. This shop itself is super fun as well; the collage always keeps me entertained and the politics are great. 2 stars only because there is one person there who consistently does a good job. However I was in recently and saw someone new due to my usual barber not being in (and Rudy's not telling me this until I arrived) and I got the absolute worst haircut of my life. I showed a picture and explained what I wanted, and she immediately cut off 9 months of hair growth down to an inch. This was the first cut she made, so my hair was ruined instantly. I had been growing it out for a slightly longer style and now need to start from scratch. It looked so bad I had to buzz my head at home the next day because I have a wedding to attend, work, etc, and couldn't walk around looking like that. When she was done she didn't even show me the cut with a mirror or ask how it was, nothing. Absolutely abysmal experience and I may not even return to see my usual person after this. read more

I just recently had a baby and I was planning a fun brunch with my boyfriend for our 5 year anniversary. I decided to go get a haircut early Sunday morning so my hair can look cute for brunch. My appointment was at 9 AM and I arrived at 9:03. I was not welcomed, but met with attitude at the front desk. I said I had a 9 am with Keli And the person looked at their watch and said I made it within their five minute grace period and that she could still see me. My appointment was for 9 AM. I got there at 9:03. So I sat in her chair and she gave me a haircut. After about 30 minutes or so, she ushered me out of her chair. I said oh is that it? And she says yes. My hair was still wet and extremely frizzy. I asked about drying and styling my hair and she told me she didn't have time. I left the salon with dry frizzy tangled hair and had to go home and finish it myself. I ended up missing my reservations. I called the salon to speak to a manager and was told they were not available. I left a message with someone and was told that the manager would reach out to me and they have not. Not only do they give terrible service but they don't care that they give terrible service. I will never go to a Rudy's again. read more

Took a friend to get a haircut. Chose Rudy's because it's close to his assisted living facility on Phinney. He's 99 y/o, a gentleman, and a WWII veteran. His hair wasn't long but he likes to keep it clean cut. I asked the female barber if she could cut a military regulation haircut ( some might call skin fade, low fade, low reg amongst other names). She seemed insulted that I would ask such a question. But in my opinion, women are sometimes less proficient with clippers. And I would describe the shop as sorta "hipster" and not exactly "military". Got a 10-15 minute clipper cut that would be laughed at by a military barber. But the price.........$52.00 !? Is that really what a civilian (senior, veteran) haircut should cost? Of course we won't go back. read more

Sofie is one of the best stylists I've ever had. People on here complaining about their grace period and showing up late are both rude and entitled. Clearly they've never worked in the service industry before and expect the world to revolve around them. I showed the stylist Young a photo of what we were looking for. She NAILED it, and it was WAY better suited for my son's hair texture and style. I have gone to Rudy's on and off for years now. I've mostly been quite satisfied. Today was different. I usually go to Brad who is good, but wasn't there when I could go in this time. Instead I went to Heather. She was incredibly rude. Like I never write reviews but decided to do it today kind of rude. The whole experience was hostile. I've never experienced that from a person cutting my hair before. While I was in the chair I was thinking "maybe she's just really good at cutting hair so I'll be happy and that's what I came in for anyway." Nope. Not good. Worst cut I've had in Seattle. So Rudy's is Rudy's. It may not be the best haircut of your life but it's mostly serviceable and the people are usually very nice and welcoming and often I'm surprised by the quality. Been a customer since the first location opened in '93 on Capitol Hill. I even got tattooed there ... I have patronized locations in LA, etc as well. Today I walked into the location on Phinney Ridge and was told I needed an appointment - even though it says on a sign painted on the front window that you can walk in .... so made an appointment for later in the day, which after my mom got sick, I was not able to make. I called a couple of hours before the appointment to let them know and got a lecture from the person who answered the phone about it. Man, NEVER going back to this place. All the vibe and love is gone from Rudys. Call me a grumpy old man, but the world is changing for the worse, and this is a great example of that. read more

Thought I'd give it a try, but regretted my decision the second I sat down. This salon has high end salon prices without the high end experience. The staff was friendly, I was surprised they decided to work at such a run down place. The robe they gave me to wear during my color had pieces of someone else's hair all over it. The sink they washed my hair in lost all the water pressure anytime someone else used another sink. The hair drying kept popping out of the outlet while she was drying my hair. The bathroom was so small my legs pushed up against the wall when sitting down, and the bathroom sink looked like it gets cleaned once a month. They make you pay for water, and there are no magazines. my experience was everything but relaxing, I won't be back. read more

Brutal haircut by Sophie today. We had a nice conversation about what I wanted with my hair - a pretty standard men's cut, with the caveat that she do a low fade and leave weight on the sides or else the hair just sticks straight out. I'm not sure why we had that conversation because with my back to the mirror she took that fade right to the top with zero weight on the sides and now I'm looking forward to 3 weeks of my hair sticking straight out off the side of my head. Man I used to love coming here. I need a haircut badly. Early this week I made a nine am appointment for a cut. At 8:56 this morning, as I was parking at the salon (I drive here from Lynnwood), they called me to say my stylist had called in sick and the soonest they could see me was 2:30. Which isn't going to work for me, so I just get to stay shaggy :( Over the years I've had dozens of haircuts here, but they've lost my business. It's a total nightmare to get in at all, which is why I made an appointment. To my way of thinking, at a place like this an appointment should be at least somewhat honored. Took my kids to get haircuts. Cuts were ok but I'm not super impressed. The worst part is that the stylists wouldn't dry my kids hair completely! I was told that the haircuts I paid a lot for only included a "rough dry." That means they leave the hair 20% wet! And if you want your kids to walk out with fully dry hair (and to be able to see if the cut was done right) I'd have to pay $20 extra for EACH KID! The hidden fee for fully drying your hair is part of a new trend. Watch out if you are a new client to this place or any hair salon. ASK before you go what the full cost of a cut is and whether it includes completely drying the hair. I can't believe a professional stylist would want their name attached to half assed haircuts and deceptive sales tactics. Don't go here unless you're comfortable pushing back against BS upcharges. read more

I made appointments here for my child and I after calling around town looking for a place that 1) was enforcing universal masking for both staff and customers, and 2) could schedule my kiddo and I for haircuts at the same time. As we are both on immunosuppressants, we have been staying home during the pandemic and I'd been cutting both our hair for the last 17 months, so this was a big deal.The person scheduling was clear that it was for both of us -- she even explicitly said she was scheduling us for 4pm because that was when there was space in the schedule for one short hair cut and one medium length hair cut at the same time. When we got there and checked in, I was also clear that I was checking both of us in, and gave both names. They called my child first, and I originally assumed that whoever was scheduled to cut my hair was just running a few minutes behind. It wasn't until 10 minutes into my child's haircut that they admitted that there had been some kind of mixup and that they didn't have anyone to cut my hair at all, nor could they work me in. If they'd told me that upfront, we would have just rescheduled a time for both of us and walked out, but now I needed to hang out and wait and not get my hair cut -- or if only one of us could have a haircut, I would have had it be me, since cutting my own hair is harder. There was one stylist who had finished up cutting someone's hair a few minutes after we got there and then wandered around chatting with folks for the whole time my child was getting a haircut, making me wonder if perhaps someone had decided to use my appointment slot as a break without letting me know ahead of time. Truthfully, I would not have paid these prices for a haircut for just a five year-old -- the cost would have been worth it only because we would both be getting cuts at the same time, minimizing total exposure risks. I asked for contact info for the manager, and the desk staff person originally said he would get that to me before we left, but then said he would have the manager contact me instead -- which of course never happened. The stylist who cut my child's hair was nice and did a good job, but I can't imagine going back after all that. read more

I've gone here 3 different times, each with a pain point. The first time, my appointment was rescheduled without them contacting me. I was squeezed in and rushed through my haircut. Even though the experience was rushed, I thought I would give it another try since I liked the way the person cut my hair. When I arrived the second time, I found out that the person no longer worked there and was given to someone else. The experience was better and the haircut was still pretty good, so I decided to give it another go...third time's a charm, right? Nope. Again, I was not notified when there was a change to my appointment. I had booked with the same person from the second haircut, and come to find out she's a manager. So I was pretty upset when I find out that she wasn't in and no one called me to reschedule my appointment. So again, I was squeezed in and rushed. I've now seen 3 different barbers on 3 separate occasions. Each time, I've had to explain how I want my hair cut and not getting any sort of consistency. If I wanted this type of service, I would go to Supercuts and pay a lot less. read more

She has been working with me for a long time and has seen me try short, clean, and simple cuts, to my longer curly hair style I have now. Kyrsha is so fun to talk to and is a great listener. Amazing experience. I was welcomed and seated right away (I had an appointment). My stylist, Keli, took her time getting to know me, what I wanted, and what I was worried about. She took the cut slow (it was a big change), and paused to answer my questions or concerns multiple times. After the cut she showed me how to style it!
