We stopped by Rudy's Hot Dog during our recent trip to this area. Obviously they serve hot dogs but they also serve, sandwiches, sides, as well as some breakfast items. I went with the namesake hot dog with chili, cheese, and mustard. The hot dog was pretty big and really tasty as was the chili which was nice and meaty. I got an order of nachos which while a very basic variation with just the chips and nacho cheese on top was very tasty. The service was excellent as they were fast and got us what we exactly what we ordered. All in all this was a really good and inexpensive lunch during our trip. read more

I prefer the Rudy's on Glendale. My husband and I ordered 5 dogs, an onion ring and fry. The guy making our food looked unwashed, like he just rolled out of bed. Greasy unkempt hair. The hot dog buns were so stale they crunched when I chewed it. The sides were 100% dbl dipped in the fryer. The onion rings were so Greasy I couldn't eat them and the fries were dry. Like you bit into them and there was no moisture. Waste of money. None of it was good. Also the ketchup bottles were disgustingly caked at the top with ketchup and the bottles themselves were incredibly greasy. We were there early in the day. The filth was definitely not from that day meaning these things aren't getting wiped down daily which is foul. Whoever manages this restaurant should be fired. read more

Walked in and waited several minutes to be acknowledged despite being "first" in line. That should have been the first clue to how this was going to go. Ordered and was given two hotdogs and a fry. All the remaining items were going to be fried or made (an omelette) and out later. Waited with those three items and to order a drink for what seemed like quite a long time. The fella working the register left when we arrived there and began making food. A lady stood waiting on a carry out order (in front of us) and when the register worker handed her the food she said "it's not right". Ordered 2 hotdogs and 2 onion rings, we waited 20 minutes for one order of onion rings and we never got the second! The young man working the register didn't communicate our order to anyone, I got a chocolate shake and a while later the team leader told me they can't make one, even though we were already charged for it. My first time visiting was today. I would never go back. I bought a gyro and fries. Priced over 7 dollars. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. There's hardly any meat. It's the wrong cut of veggies. The fries were Luke warm. It's not like they were crowded. They had time to make my first visit magical. I even had to wait awhile for the food. They put no effort into this b.s they served me. I've lived in the Toledo area for over a year now, but for whatever reason I haven't visited the Rudy's hotdog just down the road. I wanted a burger on this hot summer day, but I was tired of going to mediocre fast food chains that litter airport highway. I wish I would've gone sooner. Ordered a cheeseburger with everything on it and onion rings to go. Much better than any burger you can get from the nearby chains. Perfectly cooked, slightly sweet bun, lovely melted American cheese. Think of the best McDonalds cheeseburger you've had, but actually made well. Reminds me of Swensons and Sky-Way drive in restaurants from back home. Total was $5 for just these two things, but that's fine with me - it's going to a local chain of restaurants, and the quality was superior to the others in the area. The short bit of service I experienced was definitely better than the poorly trained and understaffed chain fast food in the area. Despite previous reviews, I found the place clean. No glaringly dirty conditions, at least. Definitely will have to return someday and try their famous chili dogs and breakfast. 4 stars for what I experienced today, and one left to give if everything else they offer holds up once I try it. read more

Good prices, I liked the chili dog my partner did not but it's a matter of taste. I enjoyed the chili sauce but we both thought the shredded cheese was a bit limp. Some liquid cheese such as I had on the Mac n cheese would be better. Speaking of which the Mac n cheese was pretty good the pasta seemed fresh. She did not enjoy the fried mushrooms very much said maybe they were fried at too high a temperature. We also tried some breakfast because they serve it all day. For $5 I would have liked a 3rd slice of French toast, but it was pretty tasty. She got the $6.50 special and it was impressive. I thought the sausage links were delicious. We were also pleased they knew how to properly make eggs fried hard. That is a difficult thing to get right. She also enjoyed the hashbrowns. This was the second time that I've had major problems at this Rudy's. I took orders from all the family and Grandkids, and had it all written down. After about 25 minutes the cashier noticed that I was still standing there, he found that they just put the bag on a shelf with other orders. It was cold by then .I spent about $40 for my order. When I got it home, it was missing 3 coney cheese dogs. Too far away to go back. Half of all those young kids working there didn't seem to know what they were doing. I won't be going back. read more

I had to lower my review on this visit. Rudy's is one of our favorite places to stop for breakfast and my husband loves their chili and chili dogs. I stopped last Wednesday night about 7:30 pm and was the only one in line at the time. After finally getting the attention of a young man I placed an order for 9 chili dogs, 1 quart of chili and 2 orders of fries to go. I asked if I could please have the chili in a separate bag and he said everything should fit okay. Well, in between doing the chili dogs while going over to the carry out window and having a young lady wrap the buns over there, the order was completed with the 9 chili dogs squashed wrapped loosely on top of the quart of chili that had a lid not tightly fitted. Then he looked at the young lady and said it still needs fries and she opened the freezer, took a bag of fries out and threw a couple handfuls in. I said, no thank you. I'll just forego the fries since everything would be cold by the time I arrived home. Needless to say, I am rarely disappointed however the chili spilled and soaked the buns so everything was ruined. I've seen the signs, I read about it in the Toledo City paper, I've heard about it, so I finally decided to try it. This location is actually right across the street from my house, and I guess it was just one of those places I never thought of visiting. I walked in the door and could smell good food in the air. Not good food as in a five-star dining experience, but good food in the sense that I was going to get a solid meal. When I was greeted at the counter, I had no clue what I wanted. I merely mentioned that it was the first time I was going there, and the guy working said - "Chili dog. You have to get the chili dog." I didn't think twice, I did what the man said. I ordered three of them (as per his recommendation). When asking about toppings and such - I just told him to put on what most people get. He said the meal would fill me up, and boy, did it. I finished eating about 40 minutes ago and I think I'm slowly starting to feel it - but what did I expect after eating three chili dogs in a single sitting? I'm not complaining, I'm merely just saying. Overall, the place is pretty legit. I don't think I would eat three again, but I would go back for a dog in the future. Oh Rudy's, how I miss you. My mom lives near this location, and whenever I visit the Toledo area, I have to eat here. I love their coney dogs, but where they really kill it is the chili mac. Toledo absolutely perfected coney dogs and chili mac. A few other Rust Belt cities can "compete," but they can't compete on Toledo's level. This was our first time at Rudys....it was Wednesday, 3-11-20 at 11:46am, before 'lunch rush'. My son-in-law and I decided on Chilimac for lunch. Wrong! We both ordered SMALL orders of Chilimac, one with beans/onions, one without. One small soda and one beer. ALL THE THE PRICE OF $18.50!!! Since this is a "cafeteria' style restaurant, we had it all placed on one tray. We took it to our table. 1. My Chilimac had NO chili sauce or ANY sauce on it. 2. The "Mac",also known as 'pasta', was chopped up and WAS NOT DRAINED, so there was ALOT of water in the plate. 3.The 'meat' was DRIED UP and I had to ask the cashier for ketchup since condiments are not kept on the tables. I put the ketchup on the 'meat' but it didn't make a difference. INEDIBLE! 4. The 'cheese' was shredded yellow and dried and was not even melted the way it should have been. After the first two tries at eating it, I should have asked for a refund, but I AM NOT GOING BACK to ANY Rudys'. I'll stick with Steak n'Shake as they have the BEST ChiliMac. I loved Rudy's when they had a store years ago in Bowling Green so stopping through the drive-up window is a stop on memory lane. The hot dogs were totally unremarkable. I think if I bought a cheap pack of hotdogs at Kroger's they would have the same flavor. Fries were only ok and the chili sauce wasn't much to write home about. This is my second visit here. The first time I came here I was here for breakfast. I ordered the breakfast special and a hot chocolate. The breakfast special was well worth it, big portions for a small price. I was so full I didn't even need to eat lunch that day. Not only was it cheap but it tasted very good. On the other hand the hot chocolate wasn't too great. Tasted more like hot water then hot chocolate. My second visit was today for dinner and I decided to order the Rudy-burger and a side of fries. For those who are unfamiliar with a Rudy-burger, it's a hamburger with chili on it. My first impression when seeing the burger was "where is the chili"? I opened it up and there was barely and chili on it. They might as well just call this a regular hamburger. Not only was there any chili but the size of the patty was so small and thin. It reminded me of a regular hamburger from McDonald's. The taste was okay but nothing special. The fries were typical. The next time I'm craving a burger I probably will not be going here. If your ever in California or Nevada I strongly suggest you visit a Tommy's Original Hamburger. This is a real chili burger. read more

I stopped by on Saturday around 5pm and there were no cars in the parking lot or drive thru. I should've taken this as a sign. I ordered 3 dogs and a fry. My daughter ordered 2 dogs and fried mushrooms. The dogs were the only thing good. My fries were cold, unsalted and seemed like they were left over from lunch. My daughters mushrooms about the size of a dime and there were only about 6 of them. We also ordered strawberry lemonades to drink. No lemonade at all and barely any strawberry flavor. I just went to Rudy's again yesterday and was reflecting on how freaking awesome my lunch was. Then I looked at my previous Yelp review, and I'm trying to remember what I was thinking only giving them 3 stars. I mean, sure, the overall experience might be a 3-star if you include every item on the menu, but I'm not coming here for the overall experience or the grilled cheese sandwiches. You come to Rudy's for chili dogs, chili fries, bowls of chili, and really anything else with "chili" in the name. If you get THOSE items, it is 5-stars any day of the week. So, yeah, I'm revising my previous rating. These are my favorite chili dogs anywhere. For me, the chili sauce is better than Packo's hands down. See my previous review for my love of the hot dog chili sauce. The buns are oh-so-perfectly steamed, and while the regular dogs are tasty, you have the option of going with the bigger, all-beef dog if you want. I also had the actual chili yesterday. BEST. CHILI. EVER. Seriously. Just get it. The flavor is unsurpassed. I'll stand by my previous review and say that if you get a hamburger and fries, you'll get a perfectly acceptable 3-star ("A-OK") experience. However, today I'm making the stand and saying, do yourself a favor, get some chili action in whatever form you choose, and you will be treating yourself to a 5-star meal. RUDY'S is my favorite place for chili dogs in Toledo, BUT today we made the mistake of going to the one on Airport Highway and not my usual on Monroe St. The kids working on this Saturday afternoon just didn't care. The mozzarella sticks were over cooked to the point of the cheese all running out, leaving a hollow tube of breading. YUCK! The wrong soup was served up, but we caught this quickly. And the Rudy Burger was cooked to the point of resembling a hockey puck, only much thinner. My KING DOGS were fine, but you can't really f"up a hot dog. All in all, family was not happy. And you know what they say, if Momma ain't happy, nobody is happy. But the kids goofing off behind the counter were happy! Aarrrgh! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Last week I called to let them know there was a hair in my food. I was told by the OWNER, who was also cooking, that there is nothing wrong with hair being in food, it carries no bacteria, and I should have picked it out and eaten my food. He said the Health Dept also told him there's no problem with them getting hair in the food they serve. He also told me there was no way the hair came from them because he has short hair. Not even a chance it came from one of the female workers who had long brown hair working that day... Mind you, the hair was embedded in melted cheese and potatoes, not even just laying on top. Stay as far away from this rudy's location as you can! Someone will get sick or ill from eating there! They had cieling tiles pulled pack and were installing a camera while i was goimg through the drive thu and the counters were littered with ceiling tile debris ans insulation, nothing was covered up! I asked the person at the counter if he was going to clean the counter and I didn't want my food on it, his answer was "it is wrapped and ok". They then brought my hot dogs and wrapped them right next to that mess on the wax paper right next to the counter that he wiped the ceiling items off off, it had the same particles that the counter had on it. I asked him if the paper was changed before they were wrapped and he said no, the paper is right next to the counter! He had to know that ceiling material was on the paper! At that point I asked for new dogs not to be wrapped in that area and I said sorry but I don't want to eat insulation.... He was not too nice but had the dogs re-made. Shouldn't food prep areas be covered while work is being done on the building? I am so upset about this I actually threw the second set of 3 dogs away not knowing what was on them, I can only imagine what they did to them while I was not looking after the attitude that I received. I have been a loyal customer of rudy's for years but for years but the lack of concern or basic hygiene by this location will not make me come back to Rudy's again. I love Rudy's! I've worked close to Rudy's for several years and it is a frequent lunch spot. From chicken sandwichs, gyros, to chili dogs, to breakfast I have never had a bad meal. My favorite thing to get is a greek salad with gyro meat. read more

Went to this Rudy's today for a quick bite. Never again! We ordered 4 chili dogs with everything. The girl making the hot dogs grabbed a dog that was clearly charred black on the bottom and put it on the bun. When I said I did not want that dog, she promptly threw it in the garbage, but she thought it was good enough for me to eat?. HMM? The steamer was obviously not working as the buns were hard as a rock. Finally, when she put the sauce on, there was about 25% of the sauce you normally get on a Rudy dog.
