Rudy's a local institution across from our high school in West Garden Grove and near the Knott exit at the Garden Grove Freeway. The food is amazing. We gobbled up our tacos, beans and rice before we remembered to take a photo. I was raised on Mexican food and super picky. This is the real deal and authentic. The best part of this restaurant are the owners who pride themselves in supporting and serving our high school kids our booster groups, and are an important part of our West Garden Grove. They have fun activities as well, including an upcoming art night. If you want some delicious Mexican food to sit in or take out, this is the place to go. *Note: this restaurant was recently evacuated due to the chemical. Before they evacuated, they were worried about the elders unable to evacuate in our community, served our first responders & helped in anyway they could before shutting down. I live close to Rudy's and decided to give them a try recently -- and I'm glad I did. From the first bite, you can tell their food is different from the typical Mexican spots around town. The flavors really stand out in a good way. Their fish burritos are honestly the best I've had -- fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Today I tried their breakfast burritos for the first time, and once again, the taste was unique and really satisfying. Everything feels thoughtfully made, not just thrown together. Haven't been here for awhile and was craving for some tacos. Was closed by so stop by and since it's Tuesday, it's $1.75/taco (I believed) so got 3 beef & 3 pork & M horchata. With tax and tip = $17. The place is run by a nice, friendly couple. Plenty of parking and clean place with plenty of seats inside. Menu is great and the foods are good too. I came here for a late dinner based on the Yelp reviews. They had a special on Monday's for burritos so I ran with it. It was huge. Probably a good 4-5lbs. I was looking for street tacos and found Rudy's on Yelp, even though we've driven by the strip mall where it's located many times. We were greeted by the cashier when we walked in, and he answered our questions about the menu. We ordered: - 3 Street Taco Combo - carnitas, carne asada and chorizo. They come with cilantro, onions and salsa. If you don't like spice, be sure to get the salsas on the side. The chorizo was particularly spicy. Rice and beans were good but nothing special. I prefer less whole beans in my refried beans. - Quesadilla with Chicken and a side of beans. It's served with guacamole and sour cream. Teen said it was alright. - Torta with Carne Asada. It was heavy! Definitely stuffed with meat, beans, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, guacamole and pico de gallo. Meat was a little chewy but had good flavor. There's a salsa bar that also has picked veggies. Love the pickled carrots! If you dine in they provide chips and salsa upon request. The dining room is big with ample seating. Albondigas soup- Bland, watery broth and too many veggies that didn't belong in the soup!! I have had this soup Homemade by Hispanics friends, eaten in many different Mexican restaurants, made myself from a recipe and this was worst I have ever eaten/tasted!!!!! Their version is a watery tomato broth that needed salt & spices!!! I have NEVER had cabbage, diced avocado, tomatoes and zucchini in the soup!! I added cumin. Salt & Pepper and only ate half a bowl, threw the rest away, the meatballs were a good size, didn't care for the texture/ flavor! Street Tacos: First time going and our order was INCORRECT!!! I wanted to give this place a try since it had such amazing reviews but I want to be as honest as possible. The food came out warm. Are tacos not suppose to be hot when served? I got 7 tacos total a mixture of carne asada, al pastor, lengua, and carnitas. Carnitas was by far the best taco there but as for the others. The carne asada was just a bit overly salty for my liking. It would've tasted better if it was hot. The al pastor was really salty and just drenched in sauce. I'm not entirely sure if that's how it's suppose to be served but I was sad I couldn't finish it. Lengua was okay too. Again prob could be better hot Overall it was okay. I have been jonesing for tacos for a week now... I decided that today would be the day that I take life by the horns and Mexican food by the tortilla! I had to have something with some stinky breath fresh onions! Asking around the office, everyone recommended Rudy's for quality of food and proximity to the dungeon where we work! I am so picky I could not bring myself to pay nearly $2 per street tacos and I was right for just getting 1 to try - not much in there, great flavor but not much else. If they were $1 it would be more worth it. Now, where this tale gets tasty is the Torta that I ordered. I got a Carne Asada torta. It arrived to my table tucked into its yellow paper blanket like a toddler at nap time! The bread was thankfully not toasted. It was soft and pillowy just how I like it! I couldn't tell you everything that was in it as it all kinda mushed together but man was it GOOOOOOOOOOD!!! I could probably eat that sandwich every day for lunch! Lots of chopped up Carne Asada, a clean well rounded flavor... It was also huge! the Torta is a meal in itself and you will not be disappointed! Looking forward to trying more dishes! The lady taking orders was very nice, the location was clean, I wasn't a fan of the political news nonsense blasting on one of the TV's - TV's in a place like this is pointless, throw on some latin music to transport me to Mexico in my dining experience..., also the parking lot is tiny!! I wanted to check this place out because of the good reviews. I got 2 burritos to go. I wanted chicken asado... but was given carne asada. My bad for not checking. But husband didn't like it. Said it was too spicy and that was all he tasted. The meat wasn't the best quality according to him. I got the fish burrito. It was grilled fish. Had lettuce instead of cabbage which was different. While I do love spicy food, spicy was pretty much all I taste too. Couldn't taste any other flavors. All the condiments on the side was nice. I love salsa and pickled chilis. Burritos are big. I came in for Taco Tuesday and got some Carne Asada, Pollo, and Al Pastor Tacos. The tacos full of meat, but the flavor was a little bland. I couldn't taste the difference in the meats. I'd be open to trying other items on the menu or coming if I just wanted some Mexican food that was super local, but I'd probably recommend a few other places in the area for street tacos. read more
