Rudy's in downtown Monrovia is definitely a good place to chill during Happy Hour after a long day of work. Their drinks are strong and the people who works there are very friendly. They have a lot of food options with prices that won't put a dent in your wallet. Not too much of a modern place but feels very homey when you walk in. Tacos are about $3 each on Taco Tuesday and their Margaritas are about $14. They are always busy and appears to be a local favorite. Worth a try if you are nearby.

My dad and me stopped by for lunch. This place is amazing. The food, service and ambiance is perfect. The food is authentic and is that place you would want to continue to comeback to. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly and helpful in answering our questions. I cannot wait to comeback and try their chile Colorado burrito. It's a must try place. Thank you for the lovely dinning experience.

We haven't been here in a long time, but stopped in after the farmers market. Staff is fantastic and service is quick! Great place overall. Food was quick to come out, but temperature wise wasn't warm/hot. Ordered enchiladas and sauce wasn't too favorable, possibly since food wasn't hot, cheese inside didn't properly melt. Great music in the restaurant.

Rudy's Mexican Food is one of the many restaurants located on Myrtle Ave in Old Town Monrovia. Though it was relatively busy on Saturday afternoon, seating was fast and service was good. The taco plate was a fair price and came with an overabundance of guacamole! It was a bit difficult to eat the tacos due to how much food was placed inside (a rather good problem to have). Beans and rice were okay as well without strong flavors. Overall, a solid Mexican restaurant.

I am writing this review because I see potential in Rudy's and want to see it succeed, even though I know it's been around for years. To be honest, we haven't stopped in recently because of the sub-par reviews. However, yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and we decided to give it a try. The Good: While the interior itself is a bit old school, the atmosphere was lively and the place was relatively packed. We were seated quickly and greeted warmly (albeit quickly) by the gentleman taking our drink order. The chips and salsa were delicious. The Not-So-Good: While the service was relatively quick and the servers were pleasant, almost everything about the service seemed transactional. Once we got our main server, everything almost seemed TOO quick (that said, we still left a nearly 30% tip because that's just how we roll). So one star off for lack of service. The other star comes off because the food was quite bland. We all had tacos (asada, pastor & chicken) but everything was missing flavor. Bottom Line: Rudy's is in a prime location right off of Myrtle. It could quite literally be the best Mexican joint in town if their servers were a bit more personable and the food had more flavor.

I had not been here in years but decided to grab lunch with a friend. The place is pretty big so we walked right in and sat down. I didn't realize they even have a small bar at the back of the restaurant which was pretty cool. We both tried the hot seafood salad which was a generous portion but so good we each finished up our plates. It has shrimp, fish, and scallops over salad and you can pick your dressing. It was very fresh and refreshing. Their table chips and salsa were very good as well. I would definitely go back and explore more items on their menu.

Always stop in when I'm in the area. Can't go wrong no matter what you order. Old staple to my childhood and young adulthood.

    Uncooked enchilada chicken

Just like their service, Rudy's took a long time to respond to my review. Clearly from Rudy's response to me, it seems like Rudy will not hold themselves accountable for their poor customer service and food quality the day we came despite the images provided that CLEARLY shows undercooked chicken, and despite their response saying they take our feedback seriously. If you want to go to a family owned café/restaurant with excellent service and great quality food, Cafe de Olla is down the street. Throwing a dirty fork on the table when calling out undercooked food isn't "handling the situation as best as possible". Whatever. This was 5 months ago. This comment wouldn't even exist if the lady that served us didn't make a fuss, and if they just took our food back and fixed it. Make sure to double check your food before eating it, wherever you go.

I tried the western burger, the Swiss burger, chicken and waffles, onion rings, and fries. The burger is one of the best I've had with a grilled brioche bun that is slightly crunchy on the bottom but so spongy and chewy on top. It perfectly complements the perfectly cooked wagyu patty. The chicken and waffles is almost too much to eat in 1 sitting. They also don't drown it in syrup. They drizzle just enough to flavor it but not drown it and make the waffle soggy. But the best thing is the tempura onion rings. They are huge and super crunchy but not greasy. I love them the best. Their fries aren't bad either and I hardly eat carbs. Parking is easy enough a block or so away, but finding a close spot is usually hit or miss on Myrtle due to how many restaurants are concentrated in a five block space. I went alone for a quick lunch. Service was exceptionally friendly and generally attentive, though it was a bit of a drag getting my bill settled as the lone server kept getting distracted by other tables and customers. Well, I got the State burger with no pickles and no thousand island sauce. I added bacon for $2.00 and swapped out the potato chips for fries for $1.50. It's happy hour all day until dinner, so the burger was discounted from $16 to $12, which is a good deal. The burger tasted great. The fries were good. The freshness of the lettuce and tomato on the burger actually stood out. I never realized how often you get slightly wilting lettuce at other places until I bit into this super fresh, crisp lettuce. I know that's a weird thing to mention, but it stood out. The only complaint I actually had was the amount of meat used in the burger patty. I think it's very small. They also sell a double smash burger, and I almost felt like this was a smash burger, cause the patty is so thin. It's not, but it's a disappointingly small amount of meat. Still, if you want drinks, it's a lovely looking bar. As I said, service is great. And I will come back for the burger. It's good and cheap, though I would gladly pay five dollars more for more meat. This time the burger was all I tried, but I can recommend. Give it a try for their all afternoon happy hour and the drinks.

We sat at a table by the front window facing the main drag. The area definitely has an old town feel with many restaurants and shops up and down the street. There is also a park right across the street. There is plenty of parking around the corner on the street and in a nearby lot. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. We had one more round of drinks and I had the Billionaire cocktail (Old Forrester 100 proof bourbon, lemon, house made grenadine, absinthe, $16). This was excellent. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. I ordered crisp pork belly tacos which was quite interesting. I never had crispy/crunchy meat in a taco before which was different haha. The flavor was good although the meat was quite chewy and hard. The chips and dips were good and the veggies and sauce on the tacos were great as well! I believe if I have chosen another protein, I would have enjoyed the tacos more. My friend ordered a salad and she really enjoyed her meal. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area :)

We got the kids meal, which came with only 4 pieces, and I'd be interested to return for the full adult portion. Also a 5-star experience was the Fried cauliflower appetizer. It had just the right amount of crispiness, without any blackening, and the garlic/parsley/lemon juice combo worked well. The juice was sucked into all the crevices, and overall it was light. I think I could have eaten two portions myself and called it a satisfying meal. I did dip in some tzatziki, which worked great too! Lastly the Chicken shawarma was a 4-star dish. Still delicious and I'd get it again, but it was slightly salty from the marinade and added sauce. I was expecting this to be wrapped up, but it was more an open-face naan with the chicken covering the top. Rice pilaf was savory, I'd rather not know just how many calories are included, the rice was still moist even after reheating the next day.
