Rudy's Mexican Food is one of the many restaurants located on Myrtle Ave in Old Town Monrovia. Though it was relatively busy on Saturday afternoon, seating was fast and service was good. The taco plate was a fair price and came with an overabundance of guacamole! It was a bit difficult to eat the tacos due to how much food was placed inside (a rather good problem to have). Beans and rice were okay as well without strong flavors. Overall, a solid Mexican restaurant.

I am writing this review because I see potential in Rudy's and want to see it succeed, even though I know it's been around for years. To be honest, we haven't stopped in recently because of the sub-par reviews. However, yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and we decided to give it a try. The Good: While the interior itself is a bit old school, the atmosphere was lively and the place was relatively packed. We were seated quickly and greeted warmly (albeit quickly) by the gentleman taking our drink order. The chips and salsa were delicious. The Not-So-Good: While the service was relatively quick and the servers were pleasant, almost everything about the service seemed transactional. Once we got our main server, everything almost seemed TOO quick (that said, we still left a nearly 30% tip because that's just how we roll). So one star off for lack of service. The other star comes off because the food was quite bland. We all had tacos (asada, pastor & chicken) but everything was missing flavor. Bottom Line: Rudy's is in a prime location right off of Myrtle. It could quite literally be the best Mexican joint in town if their servers were a bit more personable and the food had more flavor.

Always stop in when I'm in the area. Can't go wrong no matter what you order. Old staple to my childhood and young adulthood.

Hot Seafood Salad

I had not been here in years but decided to grab lunch with a friend. The place is pretty big so we walked right in and sat down. I didn't realize they even have a small bar at the back of the restaurant which was pretty cool. We both tried the hot seafood salad which was a generous portion but so good we each finished up our plates. It has shrimp, fish, and scallops over salad and you can pick your dressing. It was very fresh and refreshing. Their table chips and salsa were very good as well. I would definitely go back and explore more items on their menu.

Uncooked enchilada chicken

Just like their service, Rudy's took a long time to respond to my review. Clearly from Rudy's response to me, it seems like Rudy will not hold themselves accountable for their poor customer service and food quality the day we came despite the images provided that CLEARLY shows undercooked chicken, and despite their response saying they take our feedback seriously. If you want to go to a family owned café/restaurant with excellent service and great quality food, Cafe de Olla is down the street. Throwing a dirty fork on the table when calling out undercooked food isn't "handling the situation as best as possible". Whatever. This was 5 months ago. This comment wouldn't even exist if the lady that served us didn't make a fuss, and if they just took our food back and fixed it. Make sure to double check your food before eating it, wherever you go.

Great place to eat. Very good ambiance. The waiter was very helpful. We had a burrito and a combination with a taco and a tamale. The Pasión Fruit Margarita was a success

Nice location in Old Town Monrovia

Have visited here a few times over the years - the food is consistently delicious but the salsa isn't my fave. Service is hit or miss. Location is great - right in the heart of Old Town Monrovia. They have a happy hour menu Tuesday - Thursday with lots of drink specials but limited food options. It's always really warm inside - especially during summer. We've tried their chimichangas, mole, tamales, and burritos over the years - all decent choices. This visit my hubby got the Chile relleno de mariscos and he liked it. Had lots of seafood inside and plenty of cheese with generous sides of beans and rice. I got a seafood burrito which, again, had very ample amounts of seafood inside - white fish, tiny scallops, and plump shrimp. It also comes with rice inside and usually beans too but I skipped those. It's covered in green sauce and cheese and is excellent! Sadly their salsa is lacking. It's as thin and runny as soup and very bland. Their chips are ok - they come out super warm - but have a bit of an aftertaste that I don't like. Service is definitely hit or miss. This visit we were ignored at the door for around 10 minutes even though staff kept looking at us. It wasn't until a man walked in and he must've been the owner? Bc he raised his voice and rang some bell I didn't see and got someone to come out from the back and seat us. It was odd lol. Then at the table we were ignored again - there were two staff and only a few tables so it wasn't busy - early dinner time on a weekday. They were slowly bussing tables and disappearing. We very nearly got up and left - just as we were about to leave finally someone came over. So that was frustrating. And at the end when it's time to pay, they bring the machine to the table and hover over you while you're deciding on the tip amount which is always awkward. They also charge a 3.5% fee for use of the card and we had some other "service fee" added on as well - no idea what that was for?! Highly recommend to bring cash to avoid these issues altogether. The dining area is extremely warm - and downright hot in summer. It's a good location with easy parking in Old Town. We really want to like Rudy's but it's just ok. Enough time passes and I forget why we don't come more often but am reminded why every time we visit lol. I imagine after this experience we probably won't be back bc there are several other options just steps away that have incredible food and excellent service.

The czar special not on menu. Rib eye steak smothered with special enchilada. Awesome

The applewood smoked bacon added great flavor, and the roasted tomato basil pesto sauce really brought the whole sandwich together. I had the Bourbon Barbecue Burger, and it did not disappoint. The bacon was excellent, and the combination of aged white cheddar, house barbecue sauce, and tempura battered onion rings created a burger that was packed with flavor. Every bite had a great balance of sweet, savory, and smoky flavors. We also shared the braised short rib tacos, which were fantastic. The short rib was tender and flavorful, while the pickled onions, watermelon radish, and serrano peppers added freshness, texture, and just the right amount of kick. The fries were golden and soft. They were not particularly crispy, but they still paired well with the meal. Overall, everything we tried was delicious!

The restaurant has a modern, lively atmosphere that perfectly captures the feel of a Korean pub, with K-pop music playing throughout the space to create an upbeat ambiance. Service was attentive and efficient, and despite the restaurant being busy, our food arrived quickly. Every dish was generously portioned, beautifully presented, and showcased bold, well-balanced Korean flavors. 10-Piece K-Extreme Wings: 5/5 If you're a fan of spicy food, these wings are a must-order. The K-Extreme sauce packed a bold, fiery kick that immediately reminded me of the iconic flavor of Buldak instant noodles. It delivered a satisfying balance of heat, savory umami, and subtle sweetness without overpowering the crispy fried chicken. The wings themselves were juicy and tender on the inside with an irresistibly crisp exterior that held up well to the generous coating of sauce, making every bite incredibly addictive. Korean Corn Cheese: 5/5 Creamy, decadent, and incredibly comforting, the Korean corn cheese was the perfect side to complement the meal. Sweet, juicy kernels of corn were coated in a luscious blend of melted cheese and mayonnaise, creating an irresistibly smooth, velvety texture. The generous amount of gooey cheese added plenty of richness, while the corn's natural sweetness kept the dish balanced and prevented it from feeling overly heavy. Spicy Cold Noodles: 5/5 The spicy cold noodles were exceptionally refreshing and generously loaded with toppings. The noodles had an incredibly chewy, bouncy texture and were tossed in a vibrant sauce that delivered the perfect balance of spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet flavors. Paired with crisp vegetables, the dish remained light and deeply satisfying from the first bite to the last. Spicy Bulgogi Fries: 5/5 This was the ultimate comfort food with a Korean twist. Crispy fries were generously drizzled with spicy mayo, delivering a satisfying kick that paired beautifully with the sweet and savory bulgogi. The addition of tangy kimchi cut through the richness with a bright, fermented flavor, while fresh jalapeños provided an extra layer of heat and crunch. Topped with a perfectly fried egg featuring a rich, runny yolk, every bite was indulgent, hearty, and absolutely delicious. Seoul Alley delivered an outstanding dining experience from start to finish.
