We came here after the street fair to have a nice dinner date, around 820 ish to closing 9pm. I don't think I can describe the instant regret I have after we finished, if ever walking in here. After a couple years and multiple warnings of this place, I am really kicking myself for not listening. Not only did the waiter bring us the wrong drink, we ordered one of the specialities drinks they had available. We ordered a Flor De Fuego, and got the El Diablo instead. I understand that our waiter did not make the drink, however the fact that he quickly shut us down and said I brought you that drink, and after I asked him where the flamed grapefruit was and why we got a lime topper instead, mind you this drink is dominantly grapefruit, he rushed away mumbling I told him that one, only to come back and tell us they ran out of cinnamon, which he didn't even tell us when he brought us the drink. Also we sat for ten minutes trying to get our waiters attention only to have to flag someone else down. Upon entering we were seated immediately. The service was attentive and fast, but not incredibly charismatic. The food came out smelling wonderful. Worst Mexican restaurant you can go to in Monrovia!!!!!!! Went to go have brunch here with my boyfriend and his sister they brought us the receipt we paid and took a picture of the receipt later on that night we checked our bank accounts and realized that they over charged us and it wasn't the same amount on the receipt! We went the next day to try to fix the problem with the owner but they owner just gave us attitude and just said that he couldn't do anything on his end. That was really disappointing that the owner couldn't even own up to the mistake that they did and that we had to get the police involved. This is the worst experience that has ever happen to us at a restaurant. I would recommend if you do eat here take a picture of your receipt and check your bank account after because it's not fair that they over charge and they think you aren't going to noticed. On top of that I wouldn't really recommend this restaurant it's not all great and they are way better Mexican restaurants than Rudy's and service here is really slow maybe time for them to get new staff!! This is the worst Mexican restaurant that I have ever been too. Not only did the food not taste great but the customer service was very poor and unprofessional. The food tasted very bland and dull the presentation of the "el gigante" burrito that I got looked terrifying and sloppy. The guacamole and sour cream was falling off the plate. The chicken tasted dry and the rice was hard almost like eating rocks. I would NOT recommend anyone to come here unless you want to experience fraud. The OWNER RUTILIO him self lacked extremely poor customer service skills and his waiters committed fraud. They charge my bank account more than what the bill was supposed to be. I came in the next day to fix the problem of the over charge and RUTILO SAID "I do not have time, do you see these papers I have to go through them" waving a stack of receipts in my face he was clearly to busy to deal with customers. I delightfully called the police to get this problem resolved. Upon waiting the arrival of the police I waited outside. Magically the waiter and RUTILIO found the receipt and came out to me outside. YES YES YES!!! Been going to this place for years! Couldn't be a better spot for family, friends and sports. Great atmosphere and even better staff, not to mention family owned! The only thing I don't like is them being closed on Mondays, because I'm selfish like that :p It's central location to downtown Monrovia make it a must go whenever you're local. Went to Rudy's last night and had the WORST service! Had a party of 8 people, we called in ahead to reserve a table. They didn't have a table ready when we got there but did seat us fairly quickly which was fine. The server took our drink and food orders, but never came back. My husband had to go get him to get additional drinks which was frustrating since it wasn't that busy. Fast forward an hour later and we are STILL waiting for our food! Then everyone except me gets their food and they bring mine out 15 min after everyone else's and it's wrong! 2015 YELP 100 CHALLENGE - 092/100 I have no idea why my friend suggested we come here, the last time we visited Rudy's was back in high school and I remember not liking it then. One big pet peeve of mine is walking into a restaurant and not being acknowledged. We walked in and stood for about 5 minutes without being acknowledged. I made eye contact with probably 6 employees, and they would continue what they were doing. Then the hostess approached us... grabbed menus and walked away. We were literally about to walk out. Finally she came back and sat us. Our waitress was great. But as for the food: really really bad. Do yourself a favor and find another Mexican restaurant, even El Torito is 10x better than this food. I got a combo plate with chicken taco and chicken enchillada, I couldn't even finish both because the chicken was dark dark meat and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours, it smelled even. My friend didn't enjoy her bean and cheese burrito either. It was a good portion, but the refried beans just tasted stale. We also ordered guac for the table, and it was the most generic, pastey guac I've ever had, no flavor. Like many other people have said, the pico de gallo is crap too. Just tastes like water and onions in water. Really disappointing that this place hasn't changed in over 8 years. Once again we're out here in cow town...except...there aren't any cows around. SERVICE: EXCELLENT. What Mr. Durden wants, Mr. Durden gets. The second I stepped in, I was greeted by 2 people with hands and arms in the air. It just reminds me of Mechanicsville, VA. For a second there, I was convinced that I knew these people from a long long once upon a time ago. The servers were very helpful and courteous. Most important --- they speaka deh English. The manager (Angel) came out and introduced himself and provided that nice service support like comfort. You know...the kinda service that's like "I'll handle it if they can't...and I'll find someone to handle it...I guarantee it!" Also, Mexican food can get a bit messy, but they made sure that I always had enough napkins and plenty of water to cool down fire. I usually don't get service like this unless I go to a chain restaurant like El Torito. Actually it doesn't get this good at those chain restaurants, but the staff there speak English. Authentic Mexican restaurant (like most Chinese restaurants) usually have good food, but bloody horrible service. Most of the time, only 1 person is the English speaking representative for the whole crew, and I still end up having a hard time understanding that person. FOOD: (+) positive (-) negative Its lunch, so I'll go light... Chips and Salsa + No Mexican restaurant should mess this up! Its pathetic to see that some manage to do so. Its easy, Rudy just takes Extremely thin sliced corn chips, deep fry em and served while still warm. Then pair it up with cool chunky salsa. It's a perfect marriage. So many different textures, temperatures, and flavors packed all into 1 scoop. - None. Flautas (chicken) + They are as fat as the cold Asian spring rolls. Stuffed with chicken, grilled string onions, cilantro, and Mexican herbs & spices. Served with cool sour cream and REAL guacamole from REAL avocados. When brought to the table, they are nice crispy and also very hot. Note: You will burn your mouth if not careful...I mean it! The best thing about them is that the cooks in the back must have drained the oil or something because it wasn't greasy like most places. - NONE AT ALL Sopes (Lengua, aka beef tongue) + The bread that the meat and veggies sit on was hot and crispy. The lengua was very tender with loads of flavors and spices. I think they've simmered it for hours or maybe even days! - Again, NONE. Soft Tacos (fish) + Grilled fillet of Mahi Mahi fish. They seared it just right too...so that it creates a crust to lock in the flavors while maintaining the tender and moistness on the inside. Then, the usual toppings. - NONE NONE NONE Flan with Deep Fried Ice Cream + Just try it. I'm not gonna spoil it. This is something that you gotta just try before reading. - NONE. All of this for a bit under 20 bucks is one heck of a bargain for authentic and extremely tasty food. DECOR / AMBIANCE: Like most Mexican restaurants, they have the mariachi and banda music playing in the background. However, they are a bit more updated and play a mix of Banda and rock n' Espanol. I'm so happy they didn't play that annoying regga-tone cr@#&. Anyhow, the place is clean with old Mexican wooden furniture. The restrooms are also clean, while the tables and chairs are not one bit sticky. The most interesting thing that I noticed was that they had a heap of old photography hanging on their walls. Pictures of Los Angeles before it became what it is now, and pictures of relatives/family in Mexico (that's my guess...for all I know, it could just be Fresno). I went there for lunch so the ambiance was filled with us "suits" (that's what one of my buds calls me), and it was weird because the vibe looked serious but it also felt chilled and relaxed at the same time. I came here during the Myrtle street fair. They're only receiving a star because the food was okay and because I can't rank any less. This review is strictly for my experience with the restrooms. My nephew is in diapers and needed a changing. My sister and I went to the restroom and they had NO CHANGING TABLE. It's 2017, why is there no changing table?! We had to lay napkins on the floor and change my nephews diaper on our knees. Luckily enough his diaper bag comes equipped with a roll-our cloth/changing blanket. This was incredibly unsanitary and I was so disappointed. If our car wasn't so far away we would've gone to change him there. They seriously need to update this. read more

This used to be my favorite Mexican place. There was a good couple of years when almost every celebration we would go to Rudy's. Food was great, service was good, didn't have any problems at all. Until recently, my last celebration at Rudy's was my birthday and that may be the last time I would eat there as well. The food wasn't as good as it used to be. I'm not sure if they changed chefs or recipes but it wasn't up to par. I bragged about this place to new friends and it came out to be really disappointing. The carne asada lacked taste, burritos were so-so. Loved the chips though. However service was good, a bit slow, but it was understandable since it was a friday night. So my biggest problem that night was with the manager. I'm not sure if he was the actual owner but I'll refer to him as the manager. I called few days before to make a reservation for 16 people. The "manager" said "ok, I'll put you on the list, but be here on time." Done. A good half of my party and I arrived at Rudy's at 7:15, 15 minutes before my reservation time. I checked in, and the host said "ok, we're just going to set up the table." 7:35 rolls around and my name still haven't been called. I walk up to the stand and it was the guy I spoke with on the phone. He says that he can't give us our table anymore since we're late. I of course argued saying I was there way before my reservation. He responded with "I've been here all night and I did not see you." How could he have seen me if he was not out front this whole time? Anyway, we argued and he kept insisting that he can't seat us because our whole party wasn't there. We were only missing about 4 people and he still wouldn't let us go to our table. We spent 10 minutes arguing with him when this whole time he could've let us sit. He said he was going to start taking tables and chairs away from us because he has a party of 4 and 6 waiting. First of all, we were a party of 16, celebrating a birthday. We'd be ordering a lot more food and alcohol than his parties of "4 and 6." Plus we're great tippers. Anyway, I'm not sure why he was so persistent on us "being late," after I said forget it we'll just leave he says "no it's ok, your table's ready now." I'm not sure what his problem was but besides that, I don't think it's worth going back there again. I even drove from Anaheim to have dinner at what was once one my favorite places. Came here from a recommendation of a friend and was not impressed. I ordered the Chile Colorado plate and asked how tender the meat was and was told it was shredded. Instead it came in tough strips. The thing is it's ok to use lower quality cuts of meat but any cook will tell you slow roasting is needed to soften it. The sauce was also lacking in flavor. We called in an order yesterday for a simple rice and beans plate to be ready by 3 the next day. We came in and there was no ticket. Nothing was ready. The owner (didn't ask his name) got involved and was extremely rude. We asked if we could have a 10% discount for the inconvenience. (10% off would have been 3 dollars) He started yelling saying we were being very "demanding" and said if we wrote a yelp review he wouldn't give us the order. All of our family has gone here for a long time. We were shocked by how rude the owner was. He was the only one being rude. Not happy especially because it was there mistake in the first place. Living in Glendora has its perks because I'm close to many Mexican restaurants. That being said, it's definitely hard to find good ones. The food overall was meh. Flavor is bland. It's like they're afraid of using spices! They have decent chips and salsa, but not enough to keep me coming back. First, I would like to start with the EXCELLENT customer service, smiling faces, prompt service and completely respectful staff!! Margaritas are great, the fresh chips, salsa and guacamole are something to look forward to, oh and the authentic food cannot be forgotten. We live in Ventura (1.5 hours away) we happened stumbled across this fabulous establishment and definitely worth the stop whenever we happen to venture off in that direction! I drove from Pasadena based on a significant number of 5 star reviews. They must have been family members of the owner. The salsa, as reported, is very good. There were however a number of the acclaimed chips served with the salsa that had a rancid taste. The margaritas were poor, with the worst being they were served in PLASTIC GLASSES. Good grief, what's with that. My first plate was so salty it was inedible. I returned it to the waiter who had another plate, literally, with seconds. Not as salty, but not that good either. Why this place gets all the great yelper reviews is a mystery to me. The only reason my wife and I give this place 2 stars is the salsa. read more

3 hrs ago I checked in here. It is 5pm and I have had the worst stomach ache ever since then. I should have listened to the ratings ..they're very on point. We walked in and they are super nice greeting us...but I think we were like the only ones eating there. N e way I ordered chicken flautas..1st the outer part seemed like egg rolls then I bit into it and almost broke my tooth biting on a chicken bone not a good feeling at all the rice was dry and the beans were a weird water like consistency. The cheese on top taste like melted government cheese or something.
