Rudy's Pizzeria is so DAMN good! I get the medium sized pie with pepperoni, Italian, and pineapple, with wheat crust. I usually split it with my boyfriend and it fill both of us up! The wheat crust alone makes the pizza irresistible. The toppings are fresh! The combination I get is a good spicy sweet combination! The sauce is also very flavorful. Another delicious option is their pocket-za's which is kinda like a calzone. Overall the people are nice, helpful, and very chill. They have free delivery! Love the extensive topping options - more than 40 & including many not so run-of-the-mill choices like almonds, cashews, walnuts (nuts for nuts), sunflower seeds, avocado (wacky!), broccoli (er?), steak (whoa) + extra points for having soy cheese (not my thang but great option for the vegans). I cannot honestly understand why this is rated the #1 pizza restaurants in Lawrence. The crust taste prefabricated (similar to pizza hut), the sauce is way to sweet and the cheese is noting special. I think of this place and I think of a place that is conflicted. By conflicted I am talking about the strangely unique good way. My buddies and I walked down the stairs into this pizzaria and instantly noticable on the wall was a dragon and a water work with some koi in them. We went to the front counter to order our pizza and the help was very friendly. She offered us a special after we had some difficulty deciding and it ended up working out for the group. Then we got the final product. We ordered a Rudy's which is somewhat like a supreme from pizza hut and a beef and cheese thin. The crust was crisp and tasty on both accounts. The sauce was slightly rich on the garlic, but I like garlic, so in this case it was a plus. Lastly, I was impressed at the focus of the employees. I used to manage a pizza place. When someone got up and left, someone was out very quickly to clean the table. This ensured that the restaurant had a great appearance and didn't feel like the roach motel that some college town pizzaria's feel like. read more

It's just not for me. I get that people love this place. For me , the crust is too thick, chewy , and bland. The cheese tries too hard, and the sauce wishes it were something else, like a wizard. I just don't get what all the hype is with this place. People rave about how wonderful Rudy's is and I find it to be just OK. I think it has become a place that is famous for being famous and people may be afraid to go against that grain. The pizza is decent, and at a really good price - just not all that people have bragged about it being. While it is not the bottom of the barrel, and I will eat it if it is offered, it is certainly not the first place that I would choose. Great value for the dollar, though! read more

Rudy's is the best pizza ever!!! My now husband of 16 years got me hooked on it when we started dating. After moving 35 min away from Lawrence, we still make a trip back at least once a month for Rudy's!!! We even invested in a pizza warning bag so we can pick it up and take it back home!!! My parents who live south of Wichita love it too and have to eat at Rudy's when they visit. They have wonderful varieties, fresh product, amazing red sauce and unique atmosphere. I love to see what the veggie slice choice is (it's always three veggies..... Always changing), that and the beef & sausage combo are a top choice!! If you want a combo suggestion I must recommend the following: mushrooms, red onion & black olive. We refer to it as the tri-fecta. Any pizza place that sells by the slice gets at least 3 stars unless the product is just rancid. Rudy's pizza is, in fact, good (though there's both better quality and better value available), the other stuff is neither bad nor remarkable and the ambiance, location, setup, etc. all balance out to a good, solid, average score. LOVE RUDY'S! The location is the cutest. It's underground towards the end of Mass St, with a very cozy atmosphere. Ingredients are always fresh and pizza is made to order. I wished I lived in Lawrence. I would order from this place a lot! I love their pizza! I live in the Kansas City metro area, so we have a lot of options for pizza. While I won't say this place out does any other in the metro area, it is at the top of my list of favorite places! And so many creative toppings! WOW! After over 18 years of eating this pizza I have noticed a marked change in service and quality of their food over the last year, and it's not for the better. I live close to downtown and as a tradition every other Friday we order Rudy's and watch a family movie together. I never minded that I had to wait up to an hour and a half to get my pizza delivered 7 blocks, I never minded the hippies, hipsters, other disenfranchised college students that workers their who always served you pizza with a flippant attitude. What I do mind is paying 30$ for two pizzas that are delivered by said hipster etc in an hour to an hour and a half time and that pizza is cold, has decaying vegetables on it and looks like they only put cheese on half of it. When I called I was told that they could remake my pizzas but it would take an hour and a half!! If I would like my money instead of new pizzas I would have to drive the pizzas to them. I was never apologized to, I was treated with contempt, and at no point in time did the manager offer to comp my meal(which is what any good manager would have done). So I sadly say farewell to an old friend. The moral of the story: Don't sell me a shit product at champagne prices. read more

Rudy's isn't fancy. The crust tastes like they make it from scratch. I like the regular crust, but their thin crust is my favorite. The sauce is spicy (not sweet). Worst pizza-related experience I've ever had. Was told it would be delivered at any time (they had the driver on GPS). It never came. When I asked for a refund, they said they did it; next day $22 was taken from my bank account. When I called to complain, I didn't get apologetic customer service, I got attitude. I was told I was already refunded and more than I should've been! Then I was told "It might show up in your account on Monday..." I will never order from this place again.
