After Hurricane Florence blowing through, one begins to experience cabin fever! Hubby and I could no longer stand being inside, we had to eat somewhere and FAST! Thank God Rudy's was open! This was my second time here, it does not disappoint. My first visit, I ordered the Rudy Club on Sourdough hot off the griddle, and hubby opted for the Blackened Chicken Wrap. They serve these amazing squiggly shaped fries. This time I chose The Bypass burger: fried egg, bacon and cheddar. Hubbs decided on The Hurricane burger:jalapeño, sautéed onions, pepper jack cheese, and chipotle BBQ sauce both on a brioche bun. Talking about shut-the-front-door good!!! I placed an order at 2:40. It said it would be ready at 2:55. I get a text at 2:55 saying my order is ready so I go ahead and I head over to the store. Once I arrive the host tells me it's gonna be about five more minutes flash forward to 25 minutes later after I've been sitting there and I still don't have my order, I ask her how long it's going to be. She goes in the back and it magically appears. I tried to let them know that whatever system they use let me know that my order was ready 30 minutes before it was and she said "yeah that's just how it does it, It's to give you time to make it here." The host really couldn't be bothered with it either. She was on her phone half the time and every time a customer came in It was a hassle. I understand she couldn't have done anything, but her standing on her phone was just a slap in the face. Anyway not a great experience. When looking around last Sunday, getting out of the house from cabin fever, I came up on Rudy's when driving down Hwy 55 towards Apex. They are located near the Harris Teeter in Haddon Hall Commons. I decided to give them a try since I was starving. Walking in, it's your average bar setup, with 5-6 TVs and a large golf video game and pool table setup. A reasonable size bar to sit at and lots of small round tables with a few booths to sit at. It's nothing on the tier or scale of nearby Tyler's Taproom or anything in that type of place but it's what you can expect from a bar in a shopping center. Being that it was a Sunday afternoon with no major sports going on but NASCAR and golf, it wasn't packed either. They had the usual domestic draft type of specials going on and I had one of those, but they have a full bar and other beer selections as well as a few wine offerings as well. After looking at the menu, I decide to go with the Reuben Spring Roll choice to start with. Neat idea, a twist on two faves. The result was not bad, ok taste but turned out a bit greasy in appearance and feel. I'd give them a go again with a beer. For the main eats I went with the Rudy's Dip, their version of the French Dip (see photo). Again not bad, good amount of meat and cheese, ok taste. My server on this trip was good, always checking on my beer and making sure I didn't need anything else. My service at this time was great, no complaints in the time of all my food coming, my beverage glass always taken care of (not empty), and timeliness of requests made. I'd give the atmosphere 2, food 3, and service 4 stars on this trip. Looks like in the average they come out with a 3 star rating this time. I'll buy that, it was an A-OK visit. read more

Consistent problems with take out orders...for example, I got pork tacos, supposed to come with pepper Jack, only 1 of 3 had pepper Jack, Cole slaw was so runny it looked like my tacos were pissing...wife got Cobb salad, croutons and bacon missing...not the first time we've had missing stuff On the plus, everyone is super nice, orders are always on time read more

I became acquainted with Rudy's over the last three months. The initial draw for me was Carolina Keno. It is hard to find a spot with good social distancing and decent food with Keno. This place excels in both areas. The waitstaff if friendly, the menu is varied, prices reasonable and a full-service bar. On weekends they serve breakfast/brunch as well. I would highly recommend this place for a family as well as small groups. It is especially important to serve local restaurants during these difficult times. read more

Service is awesome! The food is excellent. If you get a chance for brunch... don't miss it. The wife had corned beef hash and I had the biscuits and gravy. I needed more gravy and simply asked. Boom not a problem. This spot is a bit out of the way but when we start kicking around dining ideas... we make the trip cuz we know it will be worth it. Speaking as a former chef, Rudy's is ok. This is my opinion, but I ordered a Hurricane Burger this evening and was severely disappointed. The burger was drowned in a watered down BBQ sauce, perhaps it may be to hide the fact it could be a frozen burger patty? A higher grade you may find from Sysco or GFS, albeit but still frozen? I say this because I've cooked 10,000+ real and frozen in my career; this was similar to those of the lesser quality based on the shape, taste, and mouth feel. If it is not in fact a frozen patty, they may want to make the patties less like a hockey puck, hand patty, smash on griddle. Swap out the pickled jalapeños with fresh. I expected more, but I guess at the price point it makes sense. Inflation has not helped with food quality / cost. The pile fries I ordered, noting they were smoothered in queso, bacon, and cheddar were very very dry...clearly missing queso. The sauces were what appear to be premade from the standard 5 gal jugs, pretty forgettable. Trying to be as fair and objective as possible. To put things in perspective, it does not take much to please me...my favorite food is a hot dog with chili and cheese. I rarely feel compelled to leave a review unless something is just not good. In no way is this intended to represent material fact, only personal opinions as a former chef, classically trained from one of the best culinary schools in the world. To this effect, everyone is afforded their right to express their thoughts, free of arrogance or intimidation. *Update to Rob's comments - While I appreciate the offer to tour your pantry and walk in, to view the prep work and food quality but that is not necessary. It is clear you have a passion for your restaurant, my review is not intended to criticize your management or customer service style, the response speaks for itself. The restaurant industry is tough, I get it, and taking criticism is also as equally tough. I love mom and pops, and my feedback is intended to help, not impact your ego. Unfortunately, I cannot do a cook-off, I would be giving you my secrets for free ;). Freebie though, swap the bbq with a chipotle aioli, fire roasted charred jalapeños, sub sautéed onions with your onion straws/rings and you'll have a hit. Food is good- I'm not a pretzel person but those pretzel bites were mmm bites of buttery goodness. The buffalo shrimp were cooked perfectly and not too spicy. The fries are shaped differently- called puffer fries- slightly thick and twisted- but good. I would definitely recommend Rudy's and make a return trip. read more

We have started going to Rudy's as one of our go-to places for lunch. I like a good reuben sandwich and Rudy's reuben is great. My wife typically has a sandwich or a salad and she has always enjoyed her lunch. In addition to the good food, they have a pretty good beer selection. read more

This was our first time visiting Rudy's and we were very impressed. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Between my husband and myself, we split a dozen wings, the Cobb salad, and an order of fries. The wings were nice and crispy, and well -seasoned. The Cobb salad was a very generous portion and did not skimp on the meats and cheeses. Good steak fries in an unusual "propeller " cut which gave it a great surface area for the ketchup. Been going to Rudys for a few years now, and the food has been great. Last night we went with the wife and we ordered Fish and Chips and my wife had her usual Rudy's dip. It was the first time trying the fish, and it was pretty good my wife on the other hand got the Rudy's Dip and it was horrible. The meat was dry and overcooked. When asked if everything was OK she explained that the sandwich was unedible...I gave her half my Fish and Chips because reordering on St Patty's day would have taken forever..the place was packed and it took them 45 minutes to get the original order out. The waitress asked about the food, and we let her know that the dip sandwich was not on par to what we have had before. She said she was sorry and that she would try to get that plate taken off our bill...10 minutes later she returned and was very apologetic but unfortunately the manager declined her request even though my wife didn't touch the food. This says alot about a business, and we will no longer be patronizing.... read more

Food was terrible and the servers weren't great at all. They were very inattentive and forgetful of small request. I'll never return. Ordered lemon pepper wings and two salads. Not to mention the (2) beers and maker marks shots. Absolutely one of my top five places to eat when I want a consistently great meal! I love their Grilled Club Sandwich and Fries, their Fried Mozzarella and my all-time favorite Biscuits and Gravy Brunch plate is delicious! I match it with their amazing Spiced Bloody Mary! OMG. This Bloody Mary is the best that I have ever had. Rudys has a welcoming home town vibe with the best staff, some having been there for years. We enjoy a burger or sandwich regularly at Rudy's, but tonight after mentioning it to our waitress, we tried the Smothered Chicken Breast. My wife and I split the dish and it was plenty for both of us and it was delicious! The combination of onions, tomatoes, peppers and cheese they smothered the double breast with was amazingly tasty, something in there was sweet. The Chefs potatoes and grilled vegetables were perfect. We highly recommend you look to the bottom of their menu and try this one. read more

I have lived in the area for over two years and I just tried this place...don't make the same mistake as me! If you haven't been you're missing out! We were looking for somewhere to grab dinner before a meeting and since they had kids eat free Thursday, we decided to go. It's not a huge place, but there are booths, tall tables and you can sit at the bar. They have darts and some board games for fun. We started with the bacon cheese fries which were amazing! Not sure what you call how they cut the potatoes but they were delicious! My husband ordered the dry rub wings and they were delicious...better than another local place that I've also written a review about. Next time I want to try the Miami Madness. I had the Rudy's Club with no ham and it was amazing! Such a huge sandwich I brought half home. My son had Mac and cheese which was nothing special...just kraft from a box, but he liked it. My daughter had the chicken tenders which were really good...I think they were hand breaded...not crappy frozen ones. The waitress was great and told us Monday is $5 burger night and they have a wing night. Definitely going back! read more

Place was hit and miss on the things we ordered as the wings were pretty dried out and not great at all. However the pickle chips we got were quite tasty and I would for sure order those again. Our waitress was nice but she had to come back and confirm our order like 3 times. The kids eat free was also a nice perk with the magician for the kids on Thursday. TVS at each table are a nice touch especially when they had cartoons going on them for the little guys. Plenty of parking as its in a strip mall and the prices were quite reasonable. read more

I have been to Rudy's a few times now and the experiences have been alright. Good drink specials, depending on the day that you go. The crowd is always interesting. On this recent visit, my mom got the omelet since brunch was all day and it included home fries. It was alright, the home fries were great but the eggs in the omelet were a bit overcooked. I got delivery from Rudy's tonight. I got an order of fried pickles and an order of chicken wings. The pickles were good. They tasted good. My only complaint was that they were very greasy. I understand they were fried and greasy comes with that. They could have used some paper towel draining. The chicken wings, on the other hand were almost inedible. I only ate two and may throw the rest out. The carrots and celery were good but warm as they were packed with the wings. I like my raw veggies cold. read more

We found this family owned (not a chain) restaurant in Apex, NC from a google search for breakfast with TV because we evacuated from Miami where Hurricane IRMA was headed and we had no TV at my nephew's place here. They kindly put the Weather Channel on the TV in our booth so we could find out the latest news. We'd traveled 23.5 hrs to safety. Besides the friendly staff, and service, the food was perfect. Best breakfast ever, all three of us agreed (waffles and chicken for them, eggs and Caesar salad for me). So, we brought more of our family back for dinner of burgers and beer last night. Fabulous. I had fish and chips, everyone loved their burgers. So, here we are again for breakfast, and plan to come back for lunch today to watch football. Came here to watch the Super Bowl. Discovered the drink menu, have to come back like 10x based solely on cocktail list. Then I almost cried at the amount of GF (gluten free) items on the menu, now I have 10 things to try when I go back for those 10 drinks. I can't eat gluten but had a little taste of the side of a peanut butter cheese cake and let me say... if I was friends with the baker I would invent reasons to need a cake. I would probably have children just so they could bake something for my baby shower real talk. Many People who came in after us got their drinks and ordered food. Before COVID, we rarely went out to eat. Once quarantine started, we wanted to support some local restaurants while also making ourselves slightly less miserable. We had never been to Rudy's before, but decided to try it one night and got it delivered through Door Dash. Since then, we have probably ordered takeout 5 times from Rudy's. The food is consistently great, the portions are huge, and they are literally the only restaurant we can say has not messed up our takeout order even a tiny bit, not even once. They get every single aspect correct, right down to every single condiment. It means a lot. You ever order a salad expecting their good homemade ranch and it's not in there and you have to use bottled? It ruins the whole meal. We are so glad we started ordering from Rudy's and we will continue to do so. read more

The reason I first visited your establishment was because I loved the owners response to his google/yelp reviews. My first visit to Rudy's did not disappoint and my husband and I come from Fuquay every chance that we can. Breakfast is on POINT! Love coming for breakfast and Monday's... I love burgers and Miller Lite so I'm in heaven. What I will say however, I was upset that I saw fried twinkies on the menu first before ordering my dinner and our server (who was great, especially to put up with me) said you don't serve them anymore. I had built up this wonderful anticipation of being able to eat these fried twinkies after dinner, so I'll accept partial responsibility for my disappointment. One other thing that was odd to me was that you pickle your own jalapeños- however we were told that you don't have any fresh jalapeños in your establishment? I guess it's just weird because now I'm curious as to how you pickle your jalapeños... I still got the hurricane burger and was just hopeful for fresh jalapeños instead of pickled. No matter the lack of fresh jalapeños or fried twinkies this is still one of my favorite places to frequent and I will continue to do just that. read more
