I will never ever return to this place again. I wish I could give it 1/2 a star! Even though they don't even deserve that high of a rating. I ordered a chicken taco salad and ended up with a piece of chicken wire in my dish. When I brought it to their attention they looked at me like I did something wrong. Not even a sorry, let us make you a new dish, no OMG here let me give you a refund. Nothing like that! I got "do you want me to through it away?" Like I was putting them out. My friends son the next day ended up with a toothpick in his burrito. When my friend told me what happen to them I wasn't surprised after what I had found in mine. As far as taco Tuesdays go this place is ok. $2 for a monster taco is a better deal than the tiny 99 cent taco from some of the competitors. Wasn't a big fan of the mango salsa but otherwise was an average lunch for $4 . Found a nuckle to a chicken bone in the chicken taco though, and this seems to be a trend after reading the reviews. Stopped here for dinner while heading north on 101. We were pleasantly surprised at the food from a place that had a fast food motif. The fish fajita was served on a sizzling cast iron pan with plenty of good fish, veggies, rice and condiments. A classic chicken burrito was good, though on the bland side. Normally, I don't go to places that are either unfamiliar to me or not recommended by someone I know. However, I happened to have a craving for Mexican food during one of my trips between SF and OC and decided to check out Rudy's. It is either one of the best - or one of the worst - decisions I have ever made. It is the worst decision because the food was so excellent that I now drive the 101 freeway between SF and OC instead of highway 5, which adds over an hour to my trip. It is one of the best because this had to be the best Mexican food I have had in 20 years. (In some respects Rudy's is even better than that restaurant - Caliente's in Irvine which closed years ago - because it has top quality but at lower prices. I am quite fond of the two-item combo and normally get the chicken enchilada and chicken taquitos. Both have shredded chicken that is marinated just right and are extremely flavorful and moist. It also comes with rice and refried beans that are also cooked just right. I have been there close to a dozen times the past four months and have never had a bad experience with their food. I did once order the beef enchilada and taquitos. Again, the meat was moist and flavorful. It was a bit spicy for my personal taste, which is why I stick to the chicken, but I still enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I am a creature of habit and tend to order the same thing over and over when I find something that I like, so I can't give any feedback to the other items. However, if the enchilada and taquitos are any indication of the overall quality of food at this restaurant, I am sure the other items are just as excellent. read more

We ate here tonight and my moms food was horrible. The Santa Barbara salad she ordered had stale chips and the chicken was not thoroughly cooked. After she returned the meal and requested her money back the staff started to talk about her in Spanish. Little did they know my mom speaks Spanish and understood what they were saying. Two words, Shrimp Tacos! They're almost too pretty to eat! They're so good and I love that they're on homemade tortillas and the chipotle sauce is delicious. This is my go to for Mexican food. It's nothing fancy, you order at the counter and they bring chips out to you and your food. The sodas and salsa are self serve. But the food never disappoints. They also have Taco Tuesday, it can get crowded but you can't beat their big tacos for $2.50. read more

This place has quality food, but the service is absolutely terrible. The waitresses are nothing short of lazy. The waitress asked if we needed anything else, and before we could answer she had already turned and walked away to go talk to a co worker. And the time to receive your food is extremely long. When we first moved up to the SY Valley 11 years ago (coming from SB) we were disappointed because there wasn't a great Mexican restaurant in the valley. We were so happy when Rudy's opened up (about 8 years ago?). Ever since Rudy's has opened we have gone there at least once a week (unless we're out of town). We have gone there as much as 4 times a week but always at least once a week seriously. The food is great, the people are friendly and the prices are good. We know most of the front staff by name and they are always helpful and friendly. Some of my favorites are the Veggie Burrito (with black beans, enchilada style), cheese enchilada combo, Chicken toastada, tres tacos with steak, etc. The salsas are homemade and can be different slightly but are always good. The chips are very good too. If you want to go somewhere fancy and order at the table then you can go to Carlitos 2 in Santa Ynez but it's very pricey and usually really loud and hard to hear. Burrito Loco has the best salsa in the valley and there food is ok but not as good as Rudy's. Taco Roco has "Taco Tuesdays" tacos for just $1 each (Rudy's has the same for $2 and their tacos are bigger). Taco Roco is good but I personally don't think it's as good as Rudy's. read more

You might be the only person in the restaurant, but they will still call your number instead of providing good service and bringing your order to you. I always found that odd. Wow! If you are really hungry you have to try this place. My husband and I were traveling from so cal and staying at Pea Soup Andersen's Inn. We decided to try a little local Mexican food. Make sure your hungry when you come. The flavor of the steak in the chimichanga and the chicken verde enchiladas were amazing. Not to mention I would expect the price to be much higher considering the portion size. Located right off highway 101 at Highway 246 in Buellton. Bad service and disappointing EVERY time. Cashiers pay no attention to what you're ordering; ordered an asada burrito with no onions and I got a CARNITAS burrito with onions! Decided to try them again and ordered another asada burrito and again asked for no onions or guacamole and AGAIN got both of those inside my burrito! Came here another night and there was no one there to help me..... took 15 minutes of standing there and the cashier finally came inside from her car outfront. Waited one day for a burrito, was told it would take 15 minutes and after 40 minutes I gave up and asked for a refund. I will not waste anymore of my time or money here.
