the food here is good, but you are rolling the dice with this place because of how apathetic and unprofessional the cashiers are. they are not trying AT ALL. they are not friendly, they will leave you on hold forever, when you go to pick up your food it will sit on the shelf behind them in full view (uncovered) while they look at their phones or chat to each other about how slow it is. I want to give them 5 stars but it's such a hit or miss at this place. Most of the time, the wait staff is incredibly friendly. The food is the hit or miss. Every time I ask for no cilantro, there's always a ton of cilantro on my meal. The burritos are either the most delicious tasting burritos you've ever had in your life or they are small, cold and made with stale tortilla. I love this place too much to give it a one star but unfortunately it's such a toss up that I can't give it a full 5 stars. We were hungry for Mexican and thought we'd give this place a try after our visit in Solvang. We were unfortunately not pleased at all with the lady taking our order at the register. She did not say hi, smile and acted extremely annoyed. When my husband asked if they had a certain food she glanced at the menu for him to look himself. There were two highchairs that were both dirty and did not have the necessary buckles. They forgot one of our burritos that we took to-go. I would give them zero stars I could, but unfortunately Yelp won't let me. We are ordered 8 breakfast burritos this morning, and let me tell you, I was surprised that they were all so horribly made. If I had wanted uncooked potatoes in the burritos I would have had a two year old make me breakfast. I didn't think beans wrapped in a tortilla constituted as a burrito, but I guess it does here. We hired Rudy's to cater a breakfast following our wedding day and they delivered. Tracy was very responsive via email and flexible when I needed to make changes due to guest count and dietary restrictions. They even delivered food outside their normal business hours (early in the AM) and got our venue to scrap a hefty fee they were going to impose on us to hold an event, because of their great working relationship with the venue. Their prices are very fair and food is delicious. We received countless compliments on how tasty the breakfast burritos were. Personal favorite was the machacha! We found this place by accident looking for an early breakfast before heading out for wine tasting and could not be happier. It was a nondescript looking place from the outside but inside the service and food were great. It is an order and they bring your food place. The very friendly cashier/server brought us a basket of chips and we both thoroughly enjoyed our food, a Spanish omelet and Huevos Rancheros, was very tasty. Initially I heard great reviews about the food, honestly it was subpar to be honest. We were there yesterday and the worst thing happened! I had two tacos, one chicken, one beef. I bit into the chicken taco and felt something hard in my mouth. It was a long toothpick, about 2-3 inches!!!!! Oh my gosh! Such good Mexican food. Me and my family were here visiting Chumash Casino, and we were really hungry. My husband and I ordered take out from Rudy's last night. We typically stop in and get it to-go, and sometimes we phone it in and pick up. Last night, we phoned in. When we got home- all of 3 miles down the road, my chicken taco salad was mush. Pale blue corn chips lined the box, which were stale and salty. The black beans on the bottom had completely obliterated the tostada into corn mush. There was very little dressing on the salad, so it wasn't the dressing that caused the mush. The worst part, though - the 5 chicken strips on top that were so overdone they actually made a "crunch" when breaking it apart. Terrible- no seasoning, cold, black on the edges- and like cardboard. The worst chicken I have ever had - ever. My husband got the crunchy beef taco, which fell apart when he put a fork into it. It was also absolute mush. The shredded beef was cold and not seasoned. The top of the taco was overstuffed with rancid cheese, which was probably meant to disguise the terrible meat inside. I just read a few other comments from other reviewers- and they are correct. This place used to be really good- high quality food, friendly and efficient service. The last time we went in, the salsa bar was half empty and filthy. But we tried it again last night ... unfortunately. Is there new management? They need to get things back on track- cuz the Rudy's in Santa Barbara is phenomenal. Today I called the restaurant to place a to go order for a platter of rice. The first time I called, it rang twice and then the line went dead. The second time I called, the line was picked up after 5 or 6 rings and I was asked to please hold. After waiting well over six minutes on hold I decided it wasn't worth the wait and called Tequilas instead who were much more accommodating. I live in Buellton and go to Rudy's a few times a month. I got started on them with their cheap Taco Tuesday's. Their crispy tacos are crazy big. Their salsa bar is probably my favorite anywhere. Period. All five or six salsas are incredible. Their tomatillo salsa is ridiculously good. Four stars because the interior is very meh. Sort of an old building, nothing special, kind of beat up. For $6, I got a huge burrito filled wth tasty carne asada, guacamole, lettuce and probably some other goodies I didn't have time to identify in my ravenous state. Yummy! The carne asada tasted pretty fresh like it had just been cooked. They have a salsa bar with a number of options, but because I'm a pansy when it comes to spicy stuff, I had to pass. Rudy's can be a total hit or a total miss. It is definitely a mixed bag. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the chicken tacos are consistently good. It's my favorite thing and only thing that I order there. I have ventured away from it and always wished that I had gotten the chicken taco instead. The chicken tacos are monster size tacos. They come with loads of cheese and savory chicken. I love the salsas at the salsa bar and the marinated onions. My husband and I often only order one taco each, and we're full to the max. Walked in with the latest copy of The Hockey News in my hand to entertain myself and stepped up to the counter.
