I love the fun, island vibe this place has. The music is always poppin and you can't beat the view. It's important to get here early because valet parking is limited and it's a pretty popular spot for dinner. I love the drinks here. Especially the margaritas. I tried the spicy one at the recommendation of the waitress, and I regretted it a little bit. I usually like spicy, but I like the refreshing factor a cold margarita has on a hot day, and the spiciness counteracted it. Every sip lit my mouth on fire, making me take another sip to cool off, lighting my mouth on fire again... and so on. Definitely will be sticking with the classic margaritas from now on. Loved the wings that I had though. Had a sweet, tangy bbq sauce that was great. The ribs I had were covered in a similar sauce that I loved. I tried some of the scallops too. Really perfectly cooked and tasty. The sweet plantains my girlfriend had were crazy good. The best part of dinner though was the key lime pie. One of the beat key lime pies I've ever had. Decided to stop here to try this place while visiting the Hamptons. Was not impressed and ended up leaving hungry and disappointed. Our server was not attentive at all. We noticed other tables were checked on much more frequently. The cocktail I ordered tasted nothing like a mojito. I informed the server it was not good. She left it on the table and did not offer a replacement. We waited over 40 mins for food, which was sent back after one bite. Tacos were cold, not even a bit warm. When I informed the server that my food was cold, she looked at me and questioned if it was cold after I had just told her it was. Manager never came by to check on the table after drink and cold food was sent back. Ideal location on Hamptons Bay with a little dock. Easy in and out with valet parking. These were the best parts. The food was mediocre and over priced. The loud fan drowned the loud music. Drinks took a long time to be made and offered nothing spectacular in terms of rum even though the t-shirts touted "girls just wanna have rum". Plus: ALL The bees! Everyone was putting their flowers in vases on the floor in a hope of a bit of relief. The faucet in the bathroom would not work--my teen son was asking lots of questions about the topless girl photo in the men's bathroom. Our waitress could not pronounce "shells" and the inedible gluten fee version of the tacos had raw chicken. The $30 burger was cold. We ordered a basket of tortilla chips and got 6! RUMBA looked awesome from all the photos but I wish I had dug a little deeper and looked at prices and maybe some reviews before I made a rushed decision... When we arrived there was a line for valet but we were quickly taken care of and made our way inside to be seated outside again on the deck. Great space for summer nights but this September evening was a bit breezy. The interior was appropriate for the atmosphere they were going after but there just aren't enough tables inside. As I looked through the menu which was smaller than I imagined, I began to realize I made a mistake in choosing this place... everything was at super premium prices! I get it, the location and the Hamptons and what not but what was not justifiable was the portion size or lack of sides. For drinks, I ordered a mango mojito at $14 after tax which was refreshing but super watered down! I don't even drink much but I needed more booze... I ordered 3 tacos for my entree, fish, shrimp and steak. The fish taco I enjoyed and the shrimp taco was amazing but the steak taco was lame, just one small piece, and it's the priciest of the three. Though tasty, they just weren't enough. I wish there was more to it, a larger taco stuffed with toppings and fillings or some sides. My friend got the Caribbean Mahi, which I hear was quite delicious just lacking in sides. For $27 it would've been an excellent meal with rice and beans, or a small salad, just some kind of carb. Food came out quickly, was presently nicely, and our server was perfect, but we both ate up our entrees fast and left still hungry. Sure, an appetizer would've sufficed but at the same prices as some entrees it just doesn't seem worth it to order one without racking up the bill. Overall if we didn't have a budget and just order what wanted, RUMBA would've been absolutely perfect, but this place is totally a "tourist trap" so expect to pay up if you want to leave full! The restaurant was very spacious and had beautiful views of the water from outdoor dining area but fair enough view from indoor dining area. The bar area was very overcrowded but everyone seemed okay with that. We didn't have reservations but sat right away and waiter said hello and greeted us. We had about 4 different waiters/waitresses while we were there, seemed off since every time we told or requested something from one waiter , the other waiter or helper wasn't aware of it. So we had to repeat ourselves. The drinks and food was very flavorful, literally would of been perfect if when the steak came out it wouldn't of had a bug maybe a fly stuck in the sauce. The waiter or waitress should be more aware of what they're delivering to the table. Tacos were are favorite and steak was okay. Sangria was yummy and the dessert 3 ledges was so good! We got the bill with one amount and got charged a different amount because one of the waitress forgot to add the dessert, now what if we wouldn't of had enough on that card; what I'm saying is we should of got told the difference before changing the card. The inconsistency of service, I have to give them a 4 luckily didn't give them a 3 which I've never had to do to a restaurant. I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to check it out from the reviews. I made a reservation and headed to the restaurant. I have never been to Long Island, so I was eager to venture to the Hampton Bay Area. I had a little bit of a wait and quite a bit of trouble trying to get my cocktail ordered. The bartenders never would look my way, so I moved to the end of the bar where it was less crowded. A bartender did finally notice me but not to take my order. He found it important to let me know that was the waitresses' station and I couldn't order my drink there. He told me to go back and stand where I was apparently invisible. I informed him I was there before and never could get any attention there. I went and stood there and once again he helped everyone but me, including the people sitting at the bar who were on their second drink. Then a man stood where I was standing before(the waitress area), and he took his unwanted drink and made him another drink. He never told him he couldn't take his order, or not to stand there. Finally someone cleared some space and I popped right up to the bar. The bartender continued to look over me, and then I put my hand up and waved at him. Finally he took my order, and just in time because the hostess was ready to seat me. Waiting for 25 minutes to get a drink made made my waiting to be seated go by faster. Once we got to our table which was a great view of the sparkling fireworks; we were greeted by the lovely waitress, Anita. She was absolutely wonderful when it came to helping us make a choice with our entrees. I ordered the Dominican ribs as an appetizer which fell off the bone and were absolutely delicious. Then I moved to my entree which was the island ribeye flavored and cooked with pineapple and mangoes I believe. The side was roasted sweet potatoes which were also good and perfect with my rib eye. My son had the salmon, risotto, and corn on the cob. I loved the creamy risotto and the corn was to die for. There was a cream on it and possibly a southwestern seasoning or chili and cilantro all over it. I ended up ordering some corn to go. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about the salmon because my son wouldn't let me get my fork any where near it. He said he was enjoying it and it was very good. It looked very moist and perfectly cooked. I also ordered key lime pie to go based off Anita's suggestion. I'm too tired to try it yet but I'm sure it's amazing as well. Anita said it is, and she was right about everything else. Oh and that cocktail I ordered was the key lime pie martini. That's my favorite drink and three orders of it later I will definitely admit the waiter knows how to make a great key lime pie martini. The graham cracker crumbs and sugar around the rim is always a nice touch too. I would have given 5 stars but I wasn't thrilled with my initial service at the bar. Everything else was great, I liked the crowd there, and more than one waitress checked on us as well as runners for the waitresses, they checked on us too. The hostess and Katherine who made my reservation on the phone was very helpful and sweet as well. I wish I knew the hostess with blond hair who greeted me when I walked in the door. She was so nice and promised me when my table was ready she would come find me no matter what, and she did. She also patiently waited for me to finally get my drink from the bartender, and she retrieved my son first and brought him to me before seating us. I will definitely go back there. The weather is nasty today so the views of Shinecock Bay are hindered. Didn't matter, food and drinks far surpassed the bad weather. In fact the food was so good I wasn't interested in any views. We had a small problem at first. Parking. Very limited but they usually have valet parking. Today they didn't because they didn't expect much business. A very sweet hostess pointed out a place to park that would block in two cars but they were workers cars. A worker came out to direct my maneuvers which was great. OK Let's get to the food. It's all Caribbean with a little kick. NP for me. I had the Dominican Ribs for an App. OFF THE CHARTS. I could nave eaten three orders. Next I had the Jerk Chicken Platter. Also OFF THE CHARTS. My wife had something that she said was excellent. I can't tell you what it was because I was too engrossed with my meal. So if I can get that permanent reservation I'll be there at least once a week in the summer. If not, I'll be there anyway. Oh BTW Yelpers get a 5% discount for checking in. We had lunch here, and we loved it all. We started with a grilled artichoke, which was for me a revelation. I've always loved artichokes but haven't eaten them this way. They were simply delicious.
