I have been wanting to try it Rumbi and I'm glad I finally got to this week!! My son and I went here for the first time, we walked in and it's such a nice vibrant fun scene! The workers were kind and friendly, I love when I go to a brew place and I ask for recommendations and they know exactly what everything is and what's popular! I ordered the Mango Chicken with Hawaiian Teriyaki sauce, brown rice and their black beans with bacon. Everything was perfectly prepared and so tasty! Very fresh nicely out together, I ordered that in the smaller size they offer. My son got their chicken bites and fries! He enjoyed his food as much as I did! We were looking for something fast, not too spendy, relatively healthy and with Gluten-free options. We found it right here in Mesa near Fat Cats and the 202. We had a nice, healthy dinner with good flavors and fast service. When we do it again, we will probably take it to go, because they have that option as well. Let me just say I am a sucker for some good fish tacos! Rumbi's is a good casual fast(ish) food place if you are looking for something more unique. I love the island flavors. The fish tacos are very flavorful but the Rumbi rice kinda lacks. The pulled pork had a really great dressing that pulled the salad together. While the food isn't super rave worthy, it's always satisfying. The service is very lackluster but what can you expect at a counter order restaurant. We love that the place is never super busy so there are always plenty of places to sit. And bonus points for crumble being next door! read more

We ordered takeout on a weeknight through their online service. Half of our orders were wrong unfortunately. We did call to see if we could get them fixed and they did offer us sides of what was missing and when we get there they gave us a coupon for a free meal, so that was all made right. The food was just okay in my opinion. The portions of meat were fairly small in comparison to the amount of rice. Honestly it just tastes like chain restaurant food, if you know what I mean. The restaurant itself was clean and put together. Overall it was not a horrible experience, and we will probably be back just because it is so close to our house but there are definitely better restaurants in the valley for this type of food. read more

Honestly the most basic food and putting a pineapple ring on a greasy hamburger doesn't make it island..canned pineapple too yuck. The staff was nice, the place was clean, the half and half order of fries came out as a full order of sweet potato fries but they were crispy and good but just crinkle cut like frozen in the grocery store..fresh would be so much butter. The ciabatta roll on the burger was fresh but could not hold up to all the grease from the burger. Bun fell apart quickly. The burger meat didn't look like ground meat but like some over processed meat product. Tacos and rice were so generic. If you have anywhere else to pick from, go there. read more

This was close to my hotel and I didn't want to drive for dinner so why not. Was it as bad as some on here gave said, no. Was my experience as good as some on here, again no. I got a bowl with tempura chicken, cabo style,sweet and spicy sauce and brown rice. The chicken was good but a little soggy, the beans were just alright as they had very little flavor. The rice was also good but again lacked flavor. The sweet and spicy sauce was sweet but had no heat at all. This could have been a whole lot better if they had just used some seasonings when cooking. You can't just rely on the sauce to carry everything. So overall it was just an ok dinner. read more

Needed a lunch place yesterday and stumbled across Rumbi Island Grill. We made the right decision for sure. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. We got a variety of bowls with different sauces and each was delicious. Easy to make healthy choices, too. But we do recommend the fries, we got a mix of regular and sweet potato fries and they were PERFECT. Best fries we've had in a long time. Yum! Also the music and ambiance were fun too. read more

I'm so happy to see that a Rumbi went in close to my house. Their teriyaki chicken bowls are terrific! This location is fairly large and has a nice, airy feel to it. There are also a few tables out front if you want to dine al fresco. As is usually the case with a brand new restaurant, the staff is really friendly and helpful. Since we came opening week, they had a wheel to spin for prizes. I won a $10 gift card - yay! SIGNIFICANTLY OVERPRICED. And the pricing is deceptive which is the worst. 1st you choose your protein and anything other than vegetables is considered an extra charge!? Since when did vegetable become a protein? Then most sauces cost extra as do other options. So what they sell as basic bowl at $12 ends up to be over 16 by the time you have chosen chicken, sauce, and beans. $36 for 2 of us today and I even had the mini. Want extra sauce? 75 cents for about a tbsp of watered down peanut sauce. Oh, and the "mango shredded chicken" was dry cubes. Go to Ono Hawaiian for amazing food at half the price. Or literally ANY other rice bowl type place. read more

I am not impressed with the food in this little place. I love eating in new places but the order was not what I ordered and the flavors were not great. It was quite expensive for what we got.... an aloha salad and a mango chicken bowl(had not one piece of mango). We both liked the sweet potato fries however. Over $30 for that meal though was absurd. When I took my 3/4 full bowl to the waitress and told her it was simply awful, she said "Sorry" and walked away. I'll not be back. read more

The menu items looks decent, but I really didn't see anything that really hit the mark for me so I reluctantly got the sweet pork salad because it sounded pretty good. Service and wait time wasn't bad, though it was a pretty pricy especially for what you got. There was nothing special about the food and it lacked a lot of good island flavor that I was expecting to get in the food. Neither of us ended up finishing our meals because it was just not that good. We both felt like it was lacking something and I still cannot figure out what that is. Chicken is grilled and not that great. This dish should realistically cost $8. Really disappointed. Teriyaki sauce is nothing special. If you want great teriyaki chicken or Japanese food go to YOKOS off of Gilbert and Southern. Great prices and food is phenomenal. Do not go here, you can cook better teriyaki chicken using frozen packaged of "teriyaki chicken." Only good thing is the strawberry lemonade. read more

Mediocre at absolute best. Bland. Chicken was extremely dry. Jerk sauce was wasn't very jerky. Long wait. Way overpriced for what you get. Ordered the full sized size fire grilled chicken bowl 'Cabo style' with Jamaican jerk sauce. I wish I had taken a picture to show just how 'blah' this dish looked upon arrival. Probably 4 cups of white rice, with 1/2 cup of cubed chicken (that was so dry the grain of the chicken was flaking apart) on one side, and maybe and other 1/2 cup of black beans on the other side. The alleged bacon in the black beans was no where to be found. On the side, a tiny little cup of the Jamaican Jerk sauce, which had absolutely ZERO spice to it at all. In all reality, I hope they accidentally gave me the teriyaki sauce, because this was sweeter than any grocery store cheapo Americanized teriyaki sauce I've ever come across. To top it all off, there was no one in line when I walked in, and 2 tables with numbers on them, and it took a solid 15 minutes to get my food. That's a LONG time a throw a couple scoops of what I'm assuming is already cooked rice, already cooked chicken, and already cooked beans in a bowl. read more

I have been here a few times, and am having a hard time not only grasping the concept, but the overall quality for price paid. Decor: Now it can be easily stated they are an island themed restaurant with bright colors, tropical themed music, etc. They have a bigger dining area, which also accommodates bigger groups. Service: The service I've received overall has been ok, nothing great. It seems really dry, just not a ton of enthusiasm. I've asked about menus and items and have been told vague responses. Just wanting more. Food: This is where the stars are mixed for me... I want to give it more, but for the price paid I just don't feel it's worth it. I called in the order after receiving a coupon in the mail. I had to call in since we were paying cash. My boyfriend was already out and about running errands so I explained to the super sweet girl that took the order over the phone I wasn't sure when he be there. She said no problem. I also explained I had given him a 2 for coupon and she applied it over the phone (online there is no cash option upon pick up so you gotta call in for cash) the mango chicken with all veggies is what I got with spicy teriyaki, they gave me two!!... So good! I'll ask for less zucchini next time but that is just my preference. The steak with the Rumbi rice and beans my boyfriend got he really liked. We also got the tempura shrimps, I would say they were good. I didn't get the chance to try them because he inhaled em so quickly that damn brat. Came here with my girlfriend and we both agreed... one of the worst restaurants we've been out to in awhile. I got the combo plate with the steak and shrimp, coconut rice, and vegetables. She got the combo plate with with the mango chicken and tofu. Way too expensive for what you're getting. I received a few small thinly cut pieces of steaks that were very overcooked and 4-5 pieces of shrimp, with A LOT of rice that barely had any coconut flavor. I had asked for Hawaiian Teriyaki sauce... but it was clear that there was no sauce at all. The pictures on the website make it look like there's a lot of protein, but clearly not. I guess the shrimp tasted okay? Definitely would not revisit, even with a free coupon I probably would not give it a second try when there are many other great food options around. read more
