We stopped by here for dinner on our way back from Squamish. It was a random thing and we were lucky to get a table on a Saturday night. The place was quite busy. My friends had the fish and chips and grilled salmon entree. I had the seafood cioppino. They enjoyed their food but wished the coleslaw was a much bigger portion for the fish and chips. The seafood cioppino and it was one of the best I had. Plenty of seafood in it. The broth was very flavorful and tasty. It was so good. I will order this again. Poor chips with so much oil. Too small amount of tuna in the salad! The fish is so thin... my worst experience in Canada!

We were craving some oyster and we were in the area as we were planning to relax. We were seated in the back patio, although the waitress mentioned that the back patio may not stay as it was supposed to be temporary unless the city extends it. The back patio is well built, with patio lights and nice decor. I hope it stays but it is technically a parking lot. We got an oyster burger and crisp chicken burger. The ouster burger had more oysters than we thought as a lot of the time, there would be a few but this one has quite a bit more. They were lightly battered so you taste more of the oyster than batter. The server was great. She was attentive, provided good recommendations, and was so positive that we felt welcomed. read more

Olive & Anchor is definitely the best spot for lunch or dinner @ Horseshoe Bay! Got here midday & made a dinner reservation just before boarding the ferry over to Bowen Island. Anyone remember Jesse Martin from Law & Order!? Well he was strolling around Bowen Island & got to chat with him! Very cool dude! He's shooting on - The Flash - in Vancouver. Ran into him just before we came back to Horseshoe Bay for dinner after a 3 hour stroll around the central area of the island. BTW, the ferry ride over is only 20mins oneway, just in case you were interested in a short day trip idea. Check out Bowen Island as it makes for a nice escape from the big city! Ok back to the restaurant - it's located on the waterfront with great views of the bay. Makes for an easy 'grab & go' if you're in a hurry to catch the ferry. I highly recommend the Seafood Cioppino - a stew full of flavour & very decent seafood portion (Salmon, cod, Manila clams, prawns, Chilean crab legs, calamari in a white wine tomato broth with a grilled focaccia), & the Korean Hot Stone Bibimbop! I previously wrote a review for Olive & Anchor raving about their chips. I have not eaten in the restaurant, I only took out chips. This was a couple of years ago. They were amazingly the best chips ever and I've been craving them lately. Hot, so crisp on the outside, fluffy inside and absolutely delicious! I finally got back there today, walked in the rain from the ferry terminal just to get those fabulous chips again. Wow! What a bitter disappointment! The chips I got ($6) were absolutely NOTHING like the fabulous gems of my previous visit. What the heck happened? I eagerly opened the box and took out a chip as I walked back to the ferry terminal. It was a typically boring chip like one gets everywhere. I don't even know if they are fresh cut or frozen. I hurried to the bus shelter to get out of the rain and sat down to investigate some more. It was a good portion of very mediocre chips. They weren't crisp, they were limp. And they were not even cooked through, they were still firm (too firm!). I ate about half a dozen and decided they weren't worth eating. Maybe with a good whack of gravy on them... I decided to take them home, save them for tomorrow, give them another dip in the fryer, and eat them with gravy. If that doesn't improve them they're straight for the bin. We found this place by walking by looking for somewhere to eat while we waited for our ferry to come. For an appetizer we ordered the KFC ( Korean fried chicken ) my husband's Korean so he was interested to try it. They weren't bad! Nice and crispy and a bit spicy. When I walked into the restaurant around 5:00PM, I noticed the calming interior and cleanliness. There weren't many people at this time, though by the time I left (6:00PM), the restaurant was definitely starting to fill up I ordered the Calamari and the Linguine Pescatore. When I asked for no tiger prawns for the Linguine Pescatore, I was immediately offered extra mussels, which doesn't happen too often so I was surprised. The Calamari wasn't amazing so to say, but it was still good! The Linguine Pescatore is definitely in my top ten best pasta dishes. Presentation was nice. The flavours were great and no one ingredient overtook the dish, they all complemented each other well. The service was great. There were three front of house staff at the time and they were all very kind and attentive. During my time there, what caught my attention the most was one of the front staff workers since he was amazing with children. I would definitely come again! read more

Great restaurant by the waterfront and little park area. You can eat at the cute restaurant or get a takeout and enjoy the food outside if the weather is nice. I made a reservation via Yelp, and when I got there we were seated immediately. They have a pretty good variety on their menu, I was shocked to see they had some Korean food options like the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and bibimbap. Anyways, I got the crispy cod tacos and substituted their regular fries for yam fries. The tacos were actually really tasty! I liked that they had green onions and cilantro in them. This is a wonderful restaurant! We were 5 in our party, and it was a droopy wet day. It was also a little late for lunch (around 1:30), so there weren't many people there - maybe 3 or 4 tables were occupied. This restaurant was renovated a year ago, but still has that old fashioned pub feel to it. The service was good and the food was great! Top this off with the fact that they also offer a gluten free menu. I was very impressed! Two of us had chicken pot pie (not GF) which has nice big chunks of chicken in it, and it comes with salad which is very tasty! On this occasion, the only downers were that I found the music a bit too loud to hear conversation very well at my own table, and there was construction going on at the back (we just happened to be sitting by the window near the back), and it was loud enough to make me jump a couple of times! Four of us went to the restaurant last night and were placed at a table at the back of the room. Since the restaurant was almost empty I asked to sit at the front where the windows were open. I was told No that the table could not have 4 chairs around it. Politely I asked many times why and then said we would leave as the manager told us not to come back. Attracted by the lineups I saw last time at the takeout part of the restaurant, I decided to try out this place this time I made a visit to Horseshoe Bay. We arrived at around 10ish am on a Saturday and this place wasn't too busy. I tried the West Coast benny and it was simply amazing. That smoked salmon was delicious. The servers were super attentive. Fantastic service, great and tasty food. We had 45min to grab lunch before our ferry departure and we ended up with a bit of margin. They have books and some toys for kids which make the experience of grabbing lunch before the ferry ride even smoother. Stopped by while we waited for our ferry, and was contemplating whether to go to this restaurant or another a couple doors down.. but so glad we came here! You can sit wherever you like and a server comes to give you menus. Our server was pleasant and gave great recommendations. Was thinking of trying their homemade chicken pot pie but they ran out already so my mom and I opted for the fish and chips, and the smoked salmon flatbread. Both were pretty amazing.. the fish tasted so fresh and flaky, not the mushy taste you get when fish is frozen beforehand and packaged. The smoked salmon was a color I've never seen before as I've only had from the supermarket. It's BC Local so I'm guessing it's extra freshhh. During a recent 4 hour weather delay at the ferry terminal, we wandered over into the village in the rain to get some lunch. There was a line up at the first restaurant we came across. We stood in line until my husband wandered over right next door to Olive & Anchor where there was no line up. We were seated right away at a great table with wonderful service immediately. I had the chowder, which was really tasty and hit the spot after being out in the rain. I then had the best, most delicious oyster burger I've ever had. If you like oysters, this is a must! Delicately fried with little batter and two very large oysters. My companions also ordered the fish tacos which they loved. Highly recommend this place for top notch service and amazing food. Loved this place! Great ambiance, great staff, great food. I enjoyed the size of the menu, plenty to choose from but not too many options to overwhelm you. We ordered truffle fries to share which came with a garlic aioli (their sauces are made in house, big plus) these were delicious. We took the servers advice and got the chicken pot pie, which was great advice. It was the perfect cozy dish to warm up with and came with a side salad to lighten things up a little. The grilled salmon and with risotto was delicious too. The risotto was the perfect texture, the salmon was fresh, and the veggies (asparagus, broccoli, carrot, arugula, crisped Brussel sprouts) added a lightness to the dish. The risotto also had baby scallops in it. Our last entree was the Korean hot stone Bibimbop. Lots of veggies and shaved ribeye on rice, served in HOT bowl. Let me tell you, they are not shy with the serving size for this. Very flavorful and filling dish with a nice heat to it, spice-wise (from the gochujang paste) and temperature-wise. The food stayed hot til the end of the meal from the heated stone bowl. We spent a long time here and enjoyed every moment. The environment was perfect for us. Before we left we chatted with our server who was so friendly and took the time to write us a list of recommendations of places to see/visit while in Vancouver area. Definitely recommend. read more
