One of my friends recommended this place and I tried the cod fish and chips. You have to ask for the tartar sauce. The cod is so soft and the skin is crispy. I ordered it on doordash and I changed my mind to dine in onstead. The servers are really nice to let me dine in even though it was so busy in the evening. Overall, this is a great experience and they are really nice. The cod fish does have a mild fishy odor inside, so if you don't like it, get more of the tartar sauce and white vinegar to cover it up. I absolutely love fish and chips. I was so excited to try out the bottomless option that they had here. After trying a whole bunch of items on their summer menu, I learned that I much prefer their grilled items to their fried items. The grilled items taste more fresh and flavorful, and I could eat so much more of those whereas the fried fish, onion rings, fries here specifically were heavily breaded and just left me feeling icky. Got a chance to re-visit this one lately - tucked inside the Kensington Plaza with the Safeway. Monday- Wednesday they offer their all you can eat fish and chip special ~ And since it was a Wednesday , that is what we indulged in. In terms of service - it was on the slower end of things - waitress doesn't really check on you - however when she does - she was very friendly. This place used to be great. When my sister passed several years ago, they stayed open late to feed my family.. the bonus...they did not even charge me that night. Made me a loyal customer for over a decade. Now, they are horrendous. My last three orders have had missing items. The kicker, my last order of fish and chips didn't even come with fish! I used to think fish and chips need to be a La carte since it's so rare to have good ones, cockney AYCE nights changed my mind, it is sooooo delicious and the fish is huge, recommend to starve urself a little bit before u go otherwise u won't last two rounds. I have been trying to eat more fish lately so we went for some fish and chips! Between the three of us, we got a bowl of soup, one cod dinner with two extra pieces of cod, a kids meal, and their new chicken burger! Loved how they gave the little one a game sheet with crayons to play with. The chicken strips from the kids meal was very juicy and tender. Not dry at all. Their new chicken burger was surprisingly delicious! The batter on the fish is one of my favourites. Crispy but not too thick that it gets in the way of the fish. The pieces are always massive with a big pile of chips. I ordered their soup last time and the little one loved the veggies in it. So we definitely ordered it again this time. Ordered a family pack via delivery, so it came with 5 salmon (wrapped in paper - classic!), super large fries (also wrapped in paper), 2 large cole slaws. Also ordered my fav mushy peas in large. Got a bonus small cole slaw for free (a special tonight). No disappointments anywhere - fresh salmon that was moist inside the batter, fries were not greasy, coleslaw had a perfect balance of dressing (others over-drench it IMHO) and mushy peas were the perfect amount of mush, still seems healthy - if that makes any sense. *They have AYCE pollock & chips offer during the week, tho I have never tried it. Came here after reading the reviews and hearing recommendations from several people.. The staff is very kind and courteous.. The location is very convenient and accessible.. The place didn't have a single table empty and seems to be a favorite among a lot of folks.. Ordered a mix of Cod and Halibut with chips. The taste was decent but it wasn't as light as was expected i.e. a little much on the oily side for me.. They also do bottomless chips which is nice... The gravy for the fries also hits different and is much more richer and aromatic than your usual gravy. I also recommend the sandwiches as they are bigger portioned than the fish and chips if you are a big eater. It's an amazingly cute family-esque restaurant with lots of selection and affordable pricing. From what I experienced and witnessed while I was there, the decor and the staff created a friendly space for people of all ages. The menu I also felt was reasonably priced, generous and large in portion while maintaining deliciousness. The tartar sauce complements the fish so well adding that needed hint of sour to the heavy frying. Although it looks like a lot to digest, the haddock and salmon were delectable and not as heavy as it might seem. I personally preferred the haddock to the salmon because it was a lot more light but that's for the individual to decide. The gravy and cheese for the poutine was divine and I inhaled everything. My only nitpicks was that the calamari dinner didn't say it had onions in it - would have wanted it without onions but ultimately everything else was great. read more

I'm not too sure if it was the cold rainy weather or just the craving for fish and chips, but I decided to give Cockney Kings fish and chips (cockney) a try. My fiancée recommended the restaurant which made me want to go that much more. I entered the restaurant hungry. The decor is old country style, similar to what you would find on the east coast. I sat down and we ordered the halibut meal for a family which included 5 halibut strips, fries and coleslaw. The halibut was good, but it was a bit dry and a bit greasy. Some salt in the batter would make it much better. The fries were good, but again some salt would be good. I like to have the chef season my food, that way I get the full experience from their perspective. The coleslaw was also pretty good. I made a little sandwich consisting of fish and coleslaw which hit the right spot. The waiters were nice and welcoming and I greatly appreciated their service. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some fish and chips. read more

Excellent for Halibut and chips. They specialize and they do it darn well. As you walk in, there is an open kitchen with cooks flipping and frying and hustling. All the excitement is there because there is often a line up for take out (which they are great at managing btw). If you decide to grab a seat, you will find yourself in an ol' English era sort of Time Machine setting. It really sets the mood for fish and chips. Personally, prefer to order ceasar salad (and steal fries from my nearest table mate). However, these fries are deadly delicious and totally addicting - especially with a dab of malt vinegar. Well, I'm a long time (over 20 years) Cockney Kings (one in North Burnaby) fan that orders pickup, however they have really gotten cheeky with the size of their halibut. Most expensive fish there with the smallest amount given. Used to be that you got about a 4 or more ounce size of halibut. Now?? Last 2 times 3 ounce size. When I ordered the other day, I specifically mentioned giving me a bit larger size Halibut. So I got the same pitiful 3 oz size. I'm starting to wish C Lovers wasn't so far away! I used to be a fan of Pajo's in Richmond, but when my cousin took us to lunch at Cockney King's Fish & Chips, this quickly became my number 1 place for good fish and chips. Fish is batter is light and crispy and not too greasy. Fries are golden crispy to compliment the fish. I prefer my fish with lemon rather than tartar sauce. Lemon does not automatically come with your order, so just be sure to ask, and they will bring you a generous plate of lemons. Service was quick and friendly. I recently joined a FB group for my hometown and folks kept on reminiscing about Cockney. My family and I never went to this restaurant when we lived in North Burnaby so I have no baseline. It's just off of Hastings in Kensington Plaza near Burnaby North Secondary School (we lived further west so not a regular hang out for us.) The plaza was very busy in the middle of the week but there's plenty of parking. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who told us to choose any table we wanted in their bright, airy dining room. As expected, the interior is designed with plenty of English references but somehow it didn't smell too fishy or oily as I've noticed in other fish and chip joints - especially since their open kitchen is by the entrance. The pricing is similar to other f&c places and they have a good selection of fish (halibut, cod, haddock) and other seafood (shrimp and calamari.) We ordered the small plate version of one halibut and chips (no bun and coleslaw) and I also ordered a side order of mushy peas. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and she always anticipated what we needed. She made sure our coffee cups were always full. I've never had mushy peas before so I was pleasantly surprised when I had a spoonful of warm, slighly sweet and well seasoned peas. I like that there are whole bits of peas to give it some texture. The chips were thinly sliced, very crispy and well seasoned. Sadly, my halibut was very dry which is too bad as this was supposed to be the star of the meal but instead it was upstaged by the peas. My Dad liked his fish and loved the ambience but I don't think I'll come back on my own unless my Dad remembers this place and wants to come back. read more

Unlike most other places, Cockney doesn't force one to order chips. In other words, one can eat nothing but piles of deep fried fish. Beautiful. Pou-tine in work! An hour after landing at YVR and heading east for some sight seeing, I found my stomach growling. I turned to my handy-dandy Yelp app for help, typed in Poutine and voila! Cockney Kings Fish & Chips. Walking in, I was greeted right away and could not have been more welcomed. The Chef in the kitchen was an easy going guy and was in his element. I knew I wanted the poutine so I ordered to-go and didn't wait very long. I am so glad I ordered the poutine! The fries were crispy, the gravy wasn't too salty and the cheese curd melted right away! In retrospect, I could not have asked for a better place to try my first serving of poutine at. I did have poutine in another place and Cockney Kings Fish & Chips is x1000 better! My only regret is not ordering two or passing by before heading back home. Parking was easy and plenty. It is located in a shopping plaza that includes a Starbucks and a gas station. The size of the place is fairly large. I got my order to-go, so I did not pass the initial lobby but the place feels authentic. Their price was inexpensive in my opinion!
