We drove 45 minutes to bring our reactive dog here for the self serve dog wash stall and were thoroughly impressed! First of all, the employees were so kind and informative as it was our first time in. They showed me how everything works and I didn't have to worry about anything! They even let me pay before I brought my reactive dog in. It's super cheap, less than $20 and they provide everything: aprons, treats, towels, slip leads, and even a blow dryer. I tried to clean up the stall as I left but the employees said they take care of that. I highly recommend this place! I didn't really get the chance to shop around but it appeared they had all the animal supplies from food to toys. Thanks rumford! We will be back with our furry friend! read more

A staple in the community. They've been around furever. Sure the prices can be a few dollars higher than Petco or online but it's got the small local business thing going for it and you can stop in and get your pet supplies quick and easy unlike in a large store or days later shopping online. It's clean and neat and doesn't smell. My one gripe is that I wish the young guys working there would offer to carry the heavy dog food bag to my hatchback for me as I'm handicapped and walk with a cane so it was a bit awkward carrying it one handed, putting it down on the wet ground to open the car and then lifting it back up into the car. That probably has more to do with personal manners than store policy though. Otherwise I think the place is great and I appreciate the variety they keep in stock. read more

Because I don't trust a groomer alone with my dog, my husband and I like to take him somewhere where we are able to bathe him ourselves. We love taking him to Rumford for this. They have 2 self service bath stations for dog owners to bring their furry ones for a bath. They come equipped with everything you need - a bathtub, towels, shampoo, and even an apron for you to wear so you don't get wet after your dog does their wet dog shake. The self service bath stations are always clean. There were a couple of times that we went and they were already occupied so we waited. After the dog owners were finished bathing their dogs, the staff would go in and clean it prior to letting us in. Staff there are always friendly. The shelves are always neatly stocked and they have a variety of pet foods and toys for every pet. Highly recommended! read more

Just want to update my review from 2 years ago that they seem to have hired some friendlier employees. Sometimes they are a little snobby, and not always helpful. But they must be getting minimum wage or something, they just don't care very much when ringing you up. I'm not sure who the owners are, but maybe hire more friendly and outgoing people, and pay them more? The employees always seem stressed out. I do still come here. I no longer live near the Attleboro location, but they seem to be a lot more positive over there, and it's just a newer, brighter, better stocked store over the East Providence location. But I have also found a new pet store that is family owned, and the owners run it, and they are great, super friendly, so I try to go there as much as I can instead of Rumford. read more

I used to shop here regularly until the inventory for cat items got lower and lower and the customer service was terrible. Yesterday I had a fish tank emergency and needed to either get a new one or rehome the one fish I still had. Decided not to replace since they're a lot of work and started calling around to pet stores to see if anyone would be willing to take this one fish. Petco didn't have a big enough tank, they were rude too but that's a different review. This girl I spoke with on the phone was beyond rude. Told me "we don't take surrendered animals" I'm just glad I was t standing in front of her cause seriously? I just need someone with a big enough fish tank. She suggested the ASPCA. Im like., it's a fish and you have larger tanks. She kept repeating that they don't take surrendered animals. It's not like im trying to drop off a dog or a cat but my fish tank was leaking, I needed it our. WTF was I supposed to do? Put him in my bathtub?! I've never spoken to someone so absolutely ridiculous and stupid in my entire life and I work in customer service. Rumford Pet Center has lost my business forever and I plan to make this into a Facebook post as well and am considering contacting the manager as this idiot made a stressful day so much worse. I'm giving 5 stars for the sole purpose that I was looking for a self service dog wash close to where I live in Riverside and I was extremely pleased! The dog wash tub was more than suitable for my 100 pound German shepherds and the amenities provided a part of the dog wash fee we're great! Very affordable and will continue going here to for dog washes! Plus the dog wash rooms are individual so you don't have to worry about sharing space with other people and dogs!! read more

This is a review of the self wash pet station. Really happy with the staff showing me around the room and explaining each tool to me. My dog saw the bath and was super nervous and the boy working was very nice and pet her to calm her down. I love how large the room is, it let me allow my dog to get acclimated to the room off leash before I tossed her in the tub. Very easy set up with hook attachments so mazie wouldn't be able to jump out of the bath. Really nice selection of tools, the deshedder was perfect for my girl and I love that you get a free bandana with the wash! Now she has a Christmas one. Perfect because her bath is so she can take a photo with santa tomorrow. Price was really good, $10 but apparently it's an extra $3 for conditioner, I think that's a little silly, just have it in the room for all one price. Overall I am highly satisfied and loved that I don't have to clean up!!!! One addition that would make this place even better is if they had files so after I trimmed her nails I could file them down. read more

Endless wait for the self service dog wash every time I've come. Won't make the same mistake again

I'm not really a big Rumford pet liker. Why? Well they have 3 stores all are mostly a decent size however this one located in East Providence has had a bit of a change in recent years. No more puppies being sold for some time now which is great and the big fish area has gone away which is sad to make way for new puppy play classes by an out sourced company in RI. This takes up a pretty big size of store. In the other half where the tanks where on right hand side of store when you first walk in is now all the dog food. Rows and rows. This store also sells leashes, a small selection of dog cloths, cat products and two or three glass cases where bunnies are for sale. In the back of store they have a groomers pet station as well. Saw a few organic products for treats for all animals as well. I visited the store on Saturday morning the moment they opened. Greeted by an associate standing at register. On my visit I bought two very well made dog bags super expensive but my dog needed a nice plush bed that would last a while as she is 7yrs old. I also bought her a new lite jean jacket on sale from $35 to $5 that was a crazy good price and made up for the beds being $70 each. Spent a lot, store was relatively clean as it had just opened. read more

I come here to get my grain sensitive wheaten terrier his kibble. They have a large selection of grain free dog food and treats. They also have tons of toys, some furry, some squeaky, some stuffing free, some Kong. They also have a large assortment of harnesses and leashes. (They carry Lupine brand collars and leashes too - owners with dogs who chew - get one! If your dog chews it - they replace it!) They used to have a huge aquarium area but that has all been removed in favor of their dog training / owner retraining classes. They must be decent at it since, Every time I go in they have at least 3 - 4 students back there. The store staff is mostly young but polite and know how to operate the register and rewards cards. They do carry a small selection of Beta's in bowls, beta treats, birds, bunnies and maybe a hamster or guinea pig and accessories..... I never really pay much attention to that side of the store. Anyway, the prices are usually in line with the big box pet stores and it's clean - I say worth a visit! read more

I don't usually make such outrageous wishes public, but if there were "half stars" on Yelp, I'd give RPC "2.5"... it truly is a hit or miss experience every time I walk in. Let's quickly discuss: The Prices & Selection Fantastic. Affordable, in some cases a steal. High quality stuff all around. I love the selection of Wellness, BFF, and Weruva for my cat. I also appreciate the amount of all-natural treats for felines, too. The Crew Sometimes the snow comes down in June, sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon. Sometimes the team here seems completely hungover, sometimes they're well-rested and lovely. God bless, but about half the time I come in here, there's a lackadaisical vibe among the team that is near spellbinding. There's no real "sense of urgency" when the line is five customers long. No real "rush" when entering sale codes manually for large orders. No "calling for backup" when the crowd grows wild. And sometimes, answers to customer questions go no further than, "I don't know." or "Hmm, yeah, I'm not sure about that." Then other times, they're so on it, they are it. Some crew members KNOW THEIR STUFF. It makes a world of difference, srsly. Not much more to say about it, really. Sometimes they're great, sometimes they're less than great. The Rabbits, Other Animals Please, please stop selling animals. There are so many animals filling up local animal shelters. Why not partner with a local shelter and have adoptable rabbits in those cases instead? It feels wildly unnecessary to sell rabbits, and it breaks my heart whenever I come into this store. Moral of the story: Stop selling rabbits. The Convenience/Shopper Card This is more of a message to the owner/manager. This "convenience" card causes more issues than savings. The sales are great, but as someone who's stood in front of a cashier for roughly 7-10 minutes while he/she MANUALLY tags each item with the card/coupon, it's not efficient. Not sure why this card doesn't just "zap into action" the way other convenience cards do at other stores, but it's worth exploring. read more

I really used to like this store. Especially because I had a cat with a digestion issue so I was trying to switch foods. They have a policy that you can exchange food (as long as more than half is still in the bag) if the food does not agree with your animal. It was just more cost-effective to use them. They used to be very friendly, and very organized. Well, I went in a few weeks ago and I am not pleased with them at all. I went in to see if they could order me a larger pack of food, they said it was on the order list and would call me when it was in. 1 week nothing, I call them, they said be patient. 2 weeks, nothing...I call them, they said be patient. 3 weeks...nothing, I call them and they have no record of my order. That was fail #1. Fail #2 was going in, finding they completely rearranged the store, so I asked THREE people where I could find the food I was looking for, I got an attitude THREE times and nobody could tell me where anything was. So, I wandered around aimlessly until I finally found it. Then, there was fail # 3. Buying the same food I always buy, getting to the register and finding out it costs $6 more per bag??? I could go to Petco and get it for the old price. I asked them why the 30% increase in prices...she told me it has always been that price. I showed her 3 receipts from when it was the old price, and she said you must've gotten that somewhere else. Then why do all my receipts say RUMFORD PETS with the address of where you guys are?? Forget it. I'll go to PetCo and save myself the aggravation. read more

After visiting almost every pet store in the area recently, it's time for an update. My cat has had a few health issues recently and is on a very limited diet. Normally she eats prescription food, but I wanted to try some other options. Rumford Pet Center is the only store in the area that has a wide enough variety to meet her needs. I was able to walk out with at least 20 different cans of food to try. I was unable to buy a single can from any other store. That deserves another star in my book. read more

Was extremely disappointed to walk in an hour before closing (which I double checked on the website) to be told that the self-serve bath closes at 5 on Sundays. As a former employee of this pet center I was surprised as that was not a policy when I worked there. I would always happily clean the room for last minute baths, especially on the weekend when most finally have the time to run this errand. I like Rumford Pet Center because it is a local chain and because they have the best hay and litter (price and product) of any pet store in my radius... when they have the hay in stock. The staff is always friendly, but as a rabbit owner, I am wary of a place that sells rabbits when their staff knows very little about them. On one occasion I happened to be perusing the small small animal section (more on this later), when I overheard an associate telling a customer with a bunny in a cardboard box (arrghhh) not to feed her bunny lettuce. REALLY? I refer to myself as a bunny advocate and have owned rabbits for years, so I just took the conversation over. I don't even want to think about how many pet rabbits have been sent out the door with poor or no advice. The aforementioned small small animal section: If you are going to sell rabbits, then sell decent rabbit products. Their selection of water bottles SUCKS. They don't have hay cribs (again, REALLY?), and as I said before, I have come in more times than I care to recall to see their hay stock completely wiped out. For days. They have a great tropical fish section, which I think is a separate business, but none-the-less very cool and the guys are knowledgeable. If you own a cat or dog, you'll need not look further for whatever they require. I wish they didn't sell puppies out of cages, or rabbits out of plexiglass, though I will have to confess to drooling over the latter. Aside from being pleasant, their staff seems to genuinely care about all the animals. After all that complaining, why three stars? Compared with Petco and Petsmart, with their even more abysmal small animal product selections, I will walk over hot coals to get to Rumford. And they have a frequent buyer plan. It's a nice little bonus to get $15 in store credit in the mail once in a while. read more

Great place to purchase your pet food. They sell great products and top quality cat and dog food. The staff and store manager is very knowledgeable and friendly. The store is very clean and well managed. If you need puppy socials or training they also provide this. My dog has been going there since he was a puppy for both socials and training, he absolutely loves going there to see all his human friends. read more

4.5 stars I have been into this store 4 different times and taken up the various staff members time, troubleshooting my two cats health struggles/dietary challenges and they have always been friendly and reasonable to impressively informed. Their least informed worker is still leaps over chain stores. I have been down the street to petvalu. Good information but a bit grandiose with strong opinions on certain matters and then you scratch your head . . . Hearing the rightful rants and raves about raw diet but see low end, commercial cat food on their shelves. Someone suggested it may be a marketing ploy to meet the needs of "all customers" but to perhaps persuade them to particular brands. Not bad marketing but I didn't like the contradictions. I felt the consistency and knowledge at rumford aligned with hours and hours of personal research I did online so the combination of these makes me trust the knowledge at Rumford without the anxiety/raised eyebrow experience I got at petvalu. They have brands there like Daves, which is low phosphorus for your sick, CKD and/or bladder crystal kitties - an alternative to the vet pushed hills or royal. Warruva "fowl" is my cats favorite. Note that warruva products list amount of phosphorus, unlike most other brands. Customer card is excellent. Why? Because points actually gets u something. Loose your receipt? They will look up your previous purchase and return/credit items. Also, you can bring bags of dry food etc home, see if your pet likes and if not, you can return! Assuming you don't show up with half the bag gone of course and claim they didn't like it. Yes, good point made by other customer to consider not selling pets unless through a local shelter. They will price match other stores by calling to confirm but NOT AMAZON. Honestly, this means I buy my canned there and go to Amazon for the rest. I want to support local businesses but one medicines, supplements etc are 50% cheaper online, I just can't justify this financially read more

Rumford years ago used to be a descent shop. Clean with a variety of different animals and loads of dog food choices. For top dollar. I'm generally a reptile, dog and fish guy. However I've also kept birds, cats and other small mammals in the past. I am a VERY big pet and animal guy and have been for over 30 years. Like most shops their reptile selection is weak and overpriced. I won't hold that against them as it is the norm and they clearly aren't looking to specialize in herps. Not profitable enough. They have dogs which is terrible, as they are in small cages and that's not how dogs should be cared for (or not cared for as the case may be). I once asked where they were from, the implication being they were from a puppy mill, and of course they said no. However, that's just semantics, because they clearly deal with breeders who produce lots of puppies and sell them wholesale. That is the definition of puppy milling. The conditions of the mill or breeder is another topic. That I have no idea. They had an extensive fish selection in some nicely furnished tanks. Note the past tense as they've completely eliminated the live fish section. They had sub-contracted the space out to "something fishy" out of Warwick but clearly the business relationship wasn't working or was not profitable enough and they left. Rumford Pet Center has not filled the void and it doesn't look like they intend to. Again not profitable enough. No reason for me to go there now. Note they are following the business model of Petco/Petsmart. Loads of supplies, useless accessories and foods for animals, but VERY few of the actual animals. This is because it costs money to care for them while they're being housed in the store plus risk of loss through mortality. Why shop here? No reason at all, they have nothing interesting and unique anymore and they opt for the high profit low quality business practice of selling caged puppies. Do not give them your business if you care about dogs. read more

This is the only pet store chain that sells good size natural elk antlers for my large lab. All other bones affect his stomach, and I won't give him rawhide. The staff always talk to me about my dog and ask me if they can pet him. At the larger chains, the staff seem a bit like cashier robots from a grocery store. read more

There's a little corner with some bettas, that's it for fish. It's just all dog and cat supplies. There were some cages, which were all empty. I used a $10 coupon at RPC the last time I bought the dog food but Amazon would have still been $10 cheaper. Update (and an important tip if anyone from RPC reads this): we've been taking our rabbits to RPC for nail trimming for a couple years now and have never had an issue. Though today my husband went to bring Radar bun in for a trim and the employee who was trimming picked up Radar by the scruff of his neck. Please pleaseeeee do not pick up rabbits by their neck or scruff. They don't have a bunch of loose skin there like dogs might, and in general they're much more fragile than other animals. Just a heads up. Just be mindful of this please. read more

Very disappointed to have been sixth in line this morning at the east providence location for the kitten shower sponsored by the RISPCA. My group and I were sixth in line as they were giving out applications outside the store before opening and we were handed the sixth one. RISPCA announced that there were only 12 kittens available and that they would be available to the applicants numbered 1-12. Having been given the sixth application, that should have guaranteed our spot in the adoption process. However, to our disappointment, we learned that a rumford employee had given out number tickets to customers in line way after my group and I had gotten inside. So despite being sixth in line, we never received a number, therefore never had a chance to adopt a kitten. We left in frustration as we weren't even given any other options to cat adoption. read more

I tend to buy all of my dog supplies online, but they do carry my dog's food, which a lot of places do not, so in a pinch, I frequent RPC. They do not have a great selection and are oftentimes out of the type I want, so it's really a last resort. The employees are okay, though a little chattier amongst each other than I like and its sometimes impossible to find someone to help you. read more
