This place was our last stop before heading back home. After a long day at the beach, the food that served here couldn't have made our experience any better. I had low expectations for Jamaican rundown soup - usually have low expectations for soups from tropical countries :). I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. The yam crust on the coconut shrimp was a surprise too and it was good too. Baja Fish Tacos and the Malaysaisn curry shrimp noodles were equally good but I liked the Baja fish tacos. Would have liked the tacos even more, if they had not served it with tuna. More than the food, the rooftop ambience elevates the experience. Giving this cafe 5 stars for its homemade key lime pie (I got a whole pie to go) and it value for money selections. Hawaiian Poke was not the best I've had but the fish was so fresh. I am updating my previous review. This restaurant is definitely 5 stars for food and normally for service. We eat there every time we are in town. 2 weeks ago we stopped in for dinner. When our food was brought to the table, the gentleman knocked my ice tea over and by over, I mean all over me. My shorts, my shirt and my feet were completely soaked and COLD. I had to sit in drenched clothing and wet shoes for my entire meal. I understand that accidents happen. He barely mumbled that he was sorry and walked away. He never came back. The waitress eventually came over to mop up the floor and my chair. The waitress never acknowledged it other than to wipe it up. The manager never came over. Nothing. I did not even get my tea comped. I never complained but it would have been nice if it seemed like anyone cared. I was frozen and wet. It took a lot of joy out of my dinner. read more

Just moved to the OBX and Rundown is one of the only places near southern shores that's not overpriced. This is my first visit and I stayed in the Hula Deck and got the poke and the lettuce wraps. The poke was great and the lettuce wraps were decent for the price. Drinks are super reasonable The service is super friendly and accommodating. And what a great view from the deck. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because I didn't check out the full waited service and dinner menu but I'll be sure to update my review once I come back. read more

Servers are really good and attentive no matter how busy it is. The food is consistently excellent, and they make a really, really good margarita. I'm always tempted by the specials, and rarely disappointed. Some menu standouts include the Poke Bowl, Spicy Thai Lemon Grass with Fish, Taco Platter (recently ordered w/fish but available with chicken), and one of my standbys is the salad with coconut fried chicken. If you want a spot on the deck, maybe avoid peak lunch rush, especially on weekends. I'm not just saying that to get my own spot. read more

Two noodle dishes were bland with raw mushrooms that never cooked in the lukewarm broth. The tuna was tasteless. I liked the chicken bites appetizer, though, but my companion didn't. Based off my previous trip here in 2021 my hopes were not high. But after sitting down I was nothing but pleased. Our server was great and attentive to our slightly larger than normal party. No missed drinks. Food was hot and fresh even with waiting but it was a busy night so it was not a big issue to us. The Szechuan Shrimp Bowl has been my go to and it still is and I recommend. From the drinks to the food, everything was room-temperature. Such a disappointment. Scallop special - scallops and rice were undercooked. Veggies over cooked. And nothing on the plate was hot. I got the Shrimp Tacos. Now living on the OBX for 20 years I have never been to a locally own place and gotten Shrimp Tacos with popcorn size fried shrimp like you get at Capt. D's. Usually you get decent size shrimp not popcorn shrimp with more batter than shrimp. The tacos weren't horribly tasting with the sauce but for $19, I wasn't expecting Sysco popcorn shrimp. This an interesting place to stop for dinner or just a drink. We had to wait for a little bit, but we were able to enjoy feeding the fish and getting drinks and listening to music on the top deck. The place itself has a cafe plus Mexican look on the inside. If you are in the deck it is very much more of a beach/bar type of feel. I had the coconut shrimp plate which was really good. We entered the parking lot and loved the look. We were seated immediately upstairs. I love The look. The bartender and wait servers were all very attentive. We started with drinks. This was our first time here. There was so much on the menu that looked delish, but had to settle for the shrimp noodle Thai bowl. It was a month full of wonderful. The fresh ingredients, flavors and ample shrimp made it a winner. My husband got the soft crabs and he gave it a thumbs up ( he is pretty picky about seafood so that is a high compliment). Rundown Cafe does exactly that. The conch fritters are delicious, far better than any I've ever had anywhere else. The fish burrito was spectacular with its thick pieces of game fish as well as burrito sides such as rice and beans. Aside from traditional beach fare, RC also has unique dishes such as its Asian Noodle dishes. These unique bowls combine fresh seafood (or other proteins) with traditional asian flavors such as sesame, and soy glaze.
