We have enjoyed eating here for a number of years. The current owner has done a great job during the COVID-19 period under trying circumstances to keep everything going. We mostly come for lunch but also for family milestones too. I especially enjoy the Fried fish and chips. read more

First off, we ordered for 5 through Waitr. The steak description was steak with shrimp, grilled vegetables, baked potato, and your choice of salad or cole slaw. Upon ordering, you're given a choice of cole slaw, salad, OR baked potato for extra $2. Also, under poboys and burgers, there were no burgers. Whatever, we dealt with the inaccurate menu. Once the food came, most ended up in the garbage with the pineapple beef being the worst. Oh, there was also an egg roll that smelled like B.O. We found Runway Cafe today in Yelp, saw it had good reviews, and decided to check it out. We found a varied menu of steaks, seafood and fish, and chicken and burgers. We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather under the covered porch. I ordered grilled shrimp and scallops with grilled veggies and dirty rice. Janice order steak and grilled shrimp with a baked potato and dirty rice. We also had iced tea and agreed it was the best in Lake Jackson. Our side salad arrived fresh and crisp, with excellent homemade blue cheese dressing on the side of mine and ranch for Janice's. Our entrees were delivered promptly and reach us before cooling off. The shrimp was fresh, sweet, properly seasoned with Cajun seasoning, and deveined! The scallops were sweet and good. Janice's steak was very flavorful. And the veggies, dirty rice, and baked potato were all excellent. The owner (who is also the chef) visited with us and the waitress was friendly and attentive, and kept our tea topped off. We wanted so badly on our first visit two weeks ago to find a new and wonderful restaurant in the Runway Cafe.... sadly, our overall experience would not compel us to ever return. It's a shame, because they've kind of got a gold-mine of a location, something really fun and different (this alone garnered my two-star rating). I want to say right up front that our server, Miranda, was attentive and gave us very good service, which was appreciated. And yes, both the indoor and outdoor seating areas could use a little spiffing and tidying up, but we found those areas acceptable. The menu is HUGE.... and this is never a good sign. With so incredibly many options, there is no way they can do many (if any) well. They would be so much further ahead if they only offered about 10 or 20 items TOTAL, and just made each thing killer good. I had gumbo and a ham and cheese sandwich that I requested be grilled.... it's hard to screw up a grilled cheese sandwich, or so I thought until this one. The outside of the bread was 'toasted' dry on the grill, without any butter, so it tasted like old grease. The gumbo was absolutely hideous, with way too much chili powder and cumin, and it was dark-dark brown like really bad beef gravy. I added enough Tabasco that the burn mercifully masked all flavor. My partner had the grilled mahi and fried shrimp special, both of which were the consistency of rubbery leather. I'm truly not trying to be unkind -- I'm just being honest. PLEASE, Runway Cafe, just do it SMALLER, and do it REALLY WELL! Find somebody who can cook and make the world's greatest grilled cheese, gumbo, sautéed fish and fresh vegetables, a really incredible burger and fries, a BLT, and maybe some chili and huge baked potatoes, a couple of fresh, hearty salads, GREAT fried shrimp, some homemade mac and cheese (with optional additions like shrimp, jalapeños, brisket, etc), that kind of stuff. If you had a small menu with GREAT food, you could have so many repeat customers! You'll never be able to do such a huge menu, or your customers, any justice the way it stands now. I love this place. Food is always fresh and well prepared. The hamburgers are huge and tasty. Fresh ground sirloin. No frozen patties here. The owner is the cook and he is not new to the restaurant business. He is the owner of Baytown Seafood in Freeport that we know all so well for fine seafood dishes. My family of 3 went on a sunday afternoon and spent 20 minutes there before we were given a menu and asked what we would like to drink. We waited another 5 minutes with no drinks in sight. The place was a little busy and only saw 2 waitress working. I'm assuming our waitress was a little agitated due to the fact she was less than delightful. Not just a $100 Aviation burger joint they have Asian food and several healthy selections. If you don't fly airplanes at least you can get a ramp side view of aircraft operations coming and going...for my pilot friends the airport is easy to get in and out of so yes I highly recommend!!!!! read more

We ordered for the first time ever. Ordered to-go to support them during the covid 19 issue. Burgers, fries and onion rings all were very good. We will go back to dine-in when there are planes to watch! Service was friendly and order was ready on time. We also got lemon and coconut pies and both were good. The fixings for the burgers were separate which I like, but included jalapeños which affected the pickles so if you don't want, order burgers cut the peppers. read more

Last night me and my husband had dinner at Runway Café at the Angleton Gulf Coast Regional airport and the food was delicious, the serves was great, and the view was beautiful. It sits right next to the airport runway and you can watch all the planes land and take off while you enjoy your meal! Great place to eat with the family. read more

I'm a big fan of out-of-the-ordinary places to eat. We have young kids and anything interesting that keeps them occupied means a better meal for me and the wife. This place is cool and the food is actually darn good. The inside part of the restaurant is nothing special (the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars) but they have a nice big patio that looks out at the airport runway. The kids loved eating while watching the small planes take off and land. Something to keep in mind; if the weather's bad, the planes don't fly. read more

Great food and friendly service. As far as fly-in diners go, this one gets 5 stars. I flew in to drop my passengers off at the FBO, then walked over to the restaurant for lunch. I ordered a cup of shrimp gumbo as a starter and then their grilled salmon. The entree came with a side of steamed veggies and dirty rice. The owner even chatted with us as we checked out. I had ordered food through Waitr. Food was cold. The gumbo was terrible. The waitress sounded rude when talking to her. She called me to inform me that they didn't have an item and offered me a drink. I said well just refund the money. She precedes to tell me it's just "x" amount of money, just get a drink. Came to eat during lunch. Place was kind of hard to get to. It was not very busy so we were sat as soon as we walked in. I give two stars, one for service because they were attentive and the second is for the bacon cheeseburger I had. Other than that, their water tastes disgusting and I had to order a bottled soda. It was ready quick and fresh. My only complaint was that the chicken was in huge slices, so cutting them into bite sized using plastic utensils wasn't the easiest. Decided to go for a motorcycle ride today to someplace new for lunch. I had been here before when it was the Windsock and was expecting the same type of sandwich restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was much more. The dining room is typical cafe and is very clean with a nice decor. I like eating at the airport for the entertainment value too. Watching the planes come and go is nice as well as listening to these pilots talk. I am a plane fan. My waitress greeted me immediately when I came in. Throughout my meal she was very sweet and attentive. Quite often when I eat alone I don't get great service I guess because they figure the tip will be small. If only they knew, I'm a very generous tipper. These folks earn their money. She will get a nice tip. Although the menu is extensive for such a small place, including lots of seafood options and steaks, I went simple and ordered a bacon cheese burger. I would say it is probably my second favorite burger in Angleton based on one visit. I got it with half fries and half homemade tater chips. Very surprised in how good the chips were - light and perfectly cooked. I'll get them without the fries next time. The burger came with all the toppings including some jalapeños. Yum. Pretty good burger. The only reason they only get 4 stars for now is because it is my first time here , and I just can't rate someone 5 until I see if they are consistently this good. A great place to eat with even better food, I highly recommend the Pad Thai, but I have not had anything I disliked. The fried catfish, when I had it was battered in something other than cornmeal, not my favorite. But each has their taste. The burgers are great.
