Sitting and waiting proved to be one of the highlights of the experience, the owner while maintaining orders and checking on the cook in the back.. truly cares about the customers. From wiping down tables between guests, to sharing stories with guests about their first visits, to giving expert guidance on Pittsburgh culture.. she made it fun to just sit and be together. The food came out in the order of the orders and WOW IT WAS WORTH IT! The roll and bun were so buttery and crispy that I can't believe every sandwich shop doesn't study it. The chopped cheese was a harmony of perfectly seared peppers and onions with a perfect amount of meat and cheese. The chicken was a tender cutlet with a thin layer of perfect fried crisp and the bacon was high quality crisp, but the provolone was dripping and oozing like a decadent blitz on this sandwich. This sandwich shop came up on my DoorDash app and I really liked the menu. The Ida sandwich really caught my attention because I love all the ingredients. It's lunch meat turkey, Swiss cheese, fresh coleslaw, and a special sauce on marble rye bread. I did not taste any special sauce. I can tell a little was on there, perhaps in the cole slaw? I wished that I would've asked for a side of mayonnaise and might've made the sandwich more flavorful. Finally got to try Ida's. Our friends who live on Observatory Hill told us about it and said we had to try it. Glad we did! When we ordered, the lady told us that there were 8 orders in front of us so it would take longer. We said that was fine. There were some others in the restaurant but most were online orders. I really appreciated her letting us know. Then as they were completing it, they checked in with us, told us they were working on it and even offered us a free drink for being patient which was really nice. It was such good customer service. Other places would make you wait but wouldn't let you know at all let alone keep you posted on progress. That really spoke to me because service is so important. The food looked amazing when it came. It delivered. My husband loved his smash burger. He gets it completely plain so he knows if it's quality meat or not. It was very good. I tried. Very flavorful! i got the shrimp po boy and loved it. It's hard to find a place that does shrimp well over here since we're not by water. It was crispy and very flavorful. It was so big that I could barely pick it up and could only eat half. We both loved the rosemary homemade French fries. They were soooo crispy and good. The rosemary really makes them. My friends said they have really good breakfast sandwiches. i Happen to drive past Ida's this afternoon while coming back from Target. I was hungry and in the mood for a good sandwich. I believe they opened yesterday or today. I originally wanted a breakfast sandwich but was disappointed that they where not serving breakfast anymore that day, It was 1:00. I decided on turkey and swiss on rye with yellow mustard. The woman told me sorry no more swiss they had provolone which was ok. They did not have yellow mustard only brown. I chock all this up to newly opened business. The place is nice a bit on small side but nice. The staff where very friendly and helpful. The sandwich was ok not great. I will defiantly go back again for breakfast. If I like the breakfast better I will certainly upgrade my stars. I give them 3 stars as the sandwich was ok. Service & staff where excelent. read more

It's a shop but they do have a few tables and some counter space for about 8. I had their French toast sandwich eggs cheese on French toast it really was good Daughter had the eggs bacon toast potato breakfast Here is an excellent perk breakfast come with a big hot coffee and the coffee was good. Love how they served on reusable little trays. We also got a nice big chocolate chunk cookie yummy The menu was on the wall next to me there are at least 3 sandwiches for my next visit Including classics like egg salad. This was quite a tasty sandwich and definitely satisfied my craving for a grilled cheese. Classic and tasty. They use classic white bread and make it nice and toasty. The portion is pretty good for the price (enough for a decent meal). They use multiple types of cheese, such as American, Swiss, and Provolone. It all seemed high quality. If you get takeout, heat it up and enjoy all the delicious cheese. It melts together better that way (cold, the cheeses somewhat separate). This place is not open for dinner, but it a great spot to get lunch or even breakfast for a good price. It's a little but inconvenient of a spot for me, but good food. This new sandwich shop just opened up in Observatory Hill. It's black women owned! The space is beautiful and bright! The owners did a really nice job with the set up. I especially love the old photos of the neighborhood on the walls. They have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. Breakfast is only served until 10:30am. In addition to breakfast there's lots of cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches and salads. I went with the grilled chicken salad and my husband got the engine 34. The grilled chicken salad was good but the engine 34 was the star of the show. First of all the sandwich is HUGE and only $12! The bread was chewy and the chicken was cooked perfectly. It is a prime place on Observatory Hill that was needed in the neighborhood. I will let you know that the food is MADE TO ORDER and there will be a wait - but it is worth the wait. Patience is key for some good quality food. Call ahead of time if you want your food to be ready at a certain time. This was my first time ordering from this restaurant and tying their food. It is a small shop with little employees. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and she was very friendly. I can tell that she takes pride in the food that she prepares. The owner double checked the order to make sure the sandwiches were prepared correctly. I placed a large order for myself and coworkers. It took a bit longer than we expected to receive the food but it was worth the wait. Every coworker was pleased with the temperature of the food--it was all nice and hot including the fries. The fries were tasty and had an unexpected but delicious rosemary flavor. They were also fresh cut. We ordered this food to go and this is one of the few restaurants that used Styrofoam containers and poked holes on top of the lid to allow the heat to escape. I can't stand ordering fried food that becomes soggy due to the condensation from the steam. The side order of fries is pretty large! One order can feed up to two or three people. We mistakenly ordered four orders. I ordered the Pittsburgh chicken salad. It was very large and filling--lots of chicken. The chicken was seasoned well, it may have been on the saltier side but the salad fixings and dressing balanced it out. My coworkers enjoyed their meals. They ordered chicken tenders & fries, grilled cheese, cheeseburgers, and a tuna melt. The only constructive criticism that was given was that the tuna sandwich needed more mayo. read more

Amazing garden salad - fresh veggies, large quantity, served in a large bowl so you could mix in the dressing. My son in law loved the Ida sandwich. The service is extremely slow. I've never waited anywhere so long for 2 sandwiches and fries. We were told that it would be a wait when we ordered but with only 3 people inside we figured 15-20 min. (it is just a breakfast and sandwich shop after all). We sat there for 30 min before they brought any food from the kitchen to anyone. After 80 min we still didn't have either of our sandwiches. We finally had to leave with only half of our food. The food we got was good but I could have gone to the store bought the ingredients, prepared the food and ate it in under an hour and a half. Genuinely one of the best places I've been to in Pittsburgh! Can't believe this little gem is tucked away on Northside, almost passed it until I went in to grab a quick breakfast. I got a morning start breakfast and added french toast, best combo hands down. French toast was super flavorful, eggs were perfect, and the home fry potatoes were seasoned incredibly well. Thank God someone's doing breakfast right! I went in the next day to snag a chopped cheese since it caught my eye, and was also blown away. So good, the cheese was perfect and soooo melty.
