It was like traveling back in time eating at Rupp's. I was last there probably 45 years ago and I will swear nothing has changed-this is both good and bad. Yes, the interior is dated and the open kitchen (enclosed in glass) has definitely a vintage feel. This is not a place where you go to impress a date. However, this is a place you go to enjoy a quality and value driven dinner. My steak was perfectly cooked over a charcoal grill and enormous for the price point. I usually avoid the offer of a salad bar but Rupp's does it right. Old school with various pastas and side items but I appreciate the freshness of the ingredients. They don't make places like Rupp's anymore. Go while you can, soak up the dated decor, and reminiscence of simpler times. read more

Went for my birthday dinner with family and friends. Why a 2? 1) after we were seated (late), it took 15min to put in a drink order, 20 minutes more before we got them. Had to flag down the server to ask where the drinks were and that we were ready to order food (she had asked us if we needed another minute when she took our drink order). 2) the salad bar was average, and they need to attend to it more often. 3) the "really good" clam chowder was inedible because it was so fishy. 4) the split pea soup was lumpy (tasted ok). 5) the above gets them down to a 3. But this is an effing steakhouse. My medium rare strip was done medium well (slightly pink), and my son's medium was done well (no pink). We stopped by for a nightcap just before closing and before we hit our next bar. The outside facade promises a time warp inside and it does. We sat at the bar and ordered a brandy old fashioned (sweet) and a martini. We should have been a little more specific because the sweetness was shocking and the martini was on rocks full of soda - not what we are used to. It was the end of the shift and a busy season so the bartender was not in any kind of mood for banter, something we would encounter every day in Door County when we got up there. But yes we still enjoyed it and it is a lovely old bar. read more

Worst service ever. Bartender looks at you with disgust even just walking into the place. Go up to the bar, he will tell you to quickly tell him what you want and gets annoyed even ordering a drink. We walked in and were greeted with the hostess and I had an amazing drink while we waited a short 10 min to be seated. We could smell the food waiting and it was smelling phenomenal. We got to our seats and were greeted by a very friendly waitress who was very knowledgeable. She gave her recommendations on what we asked. My had the fried shrimp with baked potato and my date had the T-Bone with baked potato and extra broiled shrimp. When this meal came out we were shocked how big everything was. The steak was huge and so juicy. The shrimp were about the size of my hand. Shrimp could've been seasoned some but were great otherwise. Love the vintage ambiance. The bar was built in 1939 and is beautiful. Highly recommend grabbing a Bloody Mary at the bar-- I'll be back just for that. One of the oldest supper clubs in Sheboygan. A place you can rely on for great entrees. Steak, chicken, pork chops, Ribs, Fish, shrimp, lobster. Always cooked perfectly and prepared beautifully. The Chef is a master and has never disappointed me. His orange brandy sauce is amazing on chicken. His burgundy wine sauce is incredible on the pepper steak or tenderloin tips. The bartender has also been there since my first visit 15 years ago and is exceptional at his work. My only complaint is that they are only open a few hours a day. That isn't necessarily a problem, but it becomes a problem because your experience will suffer if you show up during the later half of their serving time. I usually am able to get there 30min - 1 hour before closing time. Even though I always tip over 25% I am almost never offered dessert. I hear people near me being offered dessert every time I'm there. But since I'm finishing up right at closing time, they never do for me. Also, they are willing to seat me and charge me for salad bar 30min before closing time. But by the time I actually order and head to salad bar they may already be collecting all the utensils and putting it all away. Im lucky if I get to quickly grab things 1 time. They start to take it all down 5-10min before closing time. If you seat people from 4-8, the salad bar should stay up till at least 8:30. Not 7:55. read more

First time trying a supper club! (I figured, when in Wisconsin!..) Come hungry- the dinner entrees come with a soup, a self serve salad bar, a potato, and the main meal. I enjoyed the orange roughy and would recommend it if you like fish. There were four of us. We went as a walk-in and we noticed there was no one at the hostess podium. There was a party of 6 that was sitting at the bar waiting to be seated. As soon as they got seated waited at the bar, maybe grab a drink first. The bar tender didn't acknowledge us. Then a guy walked in and was greeted right away. I heard him ask if there's any seat available since he's a walk-in. The guy steppe out to grab his family of 5 and was seated right away. Was looking forward to visiting an old school steakhouse on a weekend getaway and while the prices were good, the service was mostly great, the quality of food was lacking. It's definitely got an old school restaurant vibe - dark, woody, antique-y furniture. It was cool to be in a historic place - it's one of the oldest restaurants in town. Plus, they were all respecting social distancing and mask-wearing rules, so everyone was seated 6' apart, and everyone working wore masks while serving and speaking to customers. We ordered fried walleye and the Saturday night special, the prime rib. The entrees come with a salad bar, a roll, and a cup of soup. The entree itself also comes with a side of potato, rice, or vegetables. The fried walleye and the baked potatoes we got with our meals were fine, but the walleye could've been better seasoned and the baked potato was essentially self-made, since they bring you butter and sour cream to add to it, and of course you've got the salt and pepper on the table. The salad bar was fine, you've got a few pickings to create a salad (i.e. pickled beets, hard boiled eggs, mushrooms, cucumbers, etc.), plus a few other types of salad like pasta salad, potato salad, tuna macaroni salad, all of which were very rich and mayo-heavy but good nonetheless. Unfortunately the prime rib was a pretty big disappointment. It was a thick cut of meat, very filling, but it had very little flavor and the meat itself was pretty tough to chew. My jaw was tired by the end of the meal. So, probably not a place I'd go back to next time we're in town for vacay. read more

I am on a vacation from Monterey, California and wanted to try something really American out here. I am also on a road trip date with a woman I very much want to impress with a nice dinner during this first night of coronavirus restrictions being lifted. We were greated by a miss Nadine and ordered clam chowder, deep fried shrimp, and some sort of steak. Let me tell you this, I have never, in my 37 years tasted a medium rare steak that melts in your mouth the way that steak did! The American Fries were the best god damn fries I have ever eaten in my life! My lady friend shared my enthusiasm for the food as the clam chowder and deep friend shrimp were the greatest she has ever had! We're from Monterey where the wharf and cannery row are home to world class clam chowder and I have eaten steaks costing over $100 from Pebble Beach which do not compare to the quality Rupp's has given me! It should be a crime that this restaurant is over 3,000 miles away from home! This dinner, served impeccably by Nadine, will be a memory I shall never forget when I tell my friends and family of my experience at this establishment!!!! read more

Hands down, Ripped is my favorite restaurant in Sheboygan. The old style atmosphere and traditional fixing make it a delight. Very, very good salad bar. This time I had the beef tenderloins in gravy, I've had the NY strip steak, porterhouse, chicken amongst other offerings, nothing disappoints. EXCELLENT value. Prime rib was delicious and the regular size was more than enough for dinner plus tomorrow's dinner. The salad bar is plentiful-lots of great options (pasta salads, too!). The Swiss onion soup was creamy and flavorful. Our server was Vanessa, and she was one of the best servers we have EVER had. So attentive, friendly-even offered, as my mom couldn't decide between rare or medium rare for the prime rib, to cook it rare and then send it back to cook a little longer if she wasn't happy with it. We were in WI for my Boyfriend's Grandma's 100th Birthday, having never been here - I wanted to explore a little. So we decided to stay in Sheboygan one night - mostly based on how fun it is to say... I had been reading up on Supper Clubs, and that was one thing I wanted to experience. The place I had my eye on for MONTHS, was closed for remodeling... so we scrambled and found this place. We said, eh... we'll peek in and see how we feel - if no, we'll keep looking. Well, Sir... after peeking in, I knew this is what I wanted. Old school dark wood, a seedy bar, majority of the patrons were white hairs... this was it. Jenna was our awesome server - prompt, polite, informational, very friendly - she was great! We each got a meal, I, the broiled walleye that came with a salad bar, potato, soup, and bread... my boyfriend the New York steak - with the same accoutrements... it was divine. Down home comfort cooking at its finest! The steak melted With each bite, with just the perfect amount of char at the finish... the walleye was one of the best seafood dishes I've had to date - and I love on a coast! And the drinks! In town for business and decided to have dinner here based on a few local recommendations. Walking in I wasn't sure what to expect due to the old school feel but the service and attention to detail was glaring. I sat at the bar with a coworker and enjoyed a classic Wisconsin old fashioned. Once we were ready to head into the dining area for our meal the bartender himself walked us to our table (never have had this happen before at any restaurant). The menu has a feel of grandmas home cooking and a fine steakhouse. Our entrees came with the salad bar, which was incredibly fresh and had many options. I ordered the chicken supreme with sides of a baked potato and seasonal vegetables. The chicken was prepared perfect and was topped with mushrooms, onions and melted Swiss cheese!!! Stopped at the bar on Friday night right before close and the drinks were good so we decided to stop back on Saturday night. I really wanted to try the deep fried lobster tail. Portion was good , but completely UNDER cooked. I ate one bite. No compensation at all. No offer to cook it more or replace. They offered me a dessert for my "inconvenience ". 58.00 meal vs a 12.00 dessert. . Anyway the waitress was nice but also forgot our appetizer order and a drink. She was apologetic and we still tipped more than average. Probably won't be back here since management couldn't even come over and apologize for serving under cooked seafood. read more

Stopped in on our way back to Illinois from Door County for the weekend. Overall it was very good and I'd go back, here is the breakdown. Environment, it's very dark! No windows as many reviews state. I could imagine the place way back in the 60's being full of smoke. When you walk in the long bar is right there, then off to the side and further back is another portion of the dining area. Somewhere between the bar and the back dining room is the kitchen which is glassed in. You can see them prep the food which is nice I guess. The decor is not up to date at all. I'd say grandma's living room meets really old restaurant (example the oil look floral paintings in gold ornate frames with garlands of flowers draped over the tops). Is it beautiful and modern? No. Is it manageable, I'd say as long as you read reviews and expect it then yes. Food, excellent! Everything was perfect! They have a salad bar which is much more than salad and very fresh. They had this broccoli slaw that was just out of this world good, along with tons of other salads, muffins, fruits and veggies etc. Most everything comes with soup and choice of potato as well. All of which was good. I had the tenderloin tips and my parents had the ribs, all with baked potatoes. Everything was well prepared and very good. I had a old fashioned and a glass of Malbec. Prices were excellent as well, only realized later the wine was $5 a glass and the old fashioned was $4.25, and I don't know where else I could get a good old fashioned for $4.25 at least in 2016... Service was great. Our waitress was friendly, prompt and knew the menu like the back of her hand. Very good timing on the items being brought out as well which is always plus. Good place to stop off as a somewhat midpoint to Door County if you are looking for something old school/supper club style with good prices, service and food. Ordered the prime rib end cut. I question whether it really was an end cut??? Looked more like they cut the very tip of the end or cut a slice from? And cooked it more? It didn't have the soft meat around it and was dried out without any flavor. Honestly couldn't eat it. Waitress could see one bite had been eaten but not the rest. I am not sure what I will do with it when I get home? . Either soup or the dogs. Worried this restaurant is going down hill. So disappointed!!! Salad bar though was amazing. Truly a hidden gem in Sheboygan. If you are looking for traditional dishes done right, this place will satisfy you or a large group. You can see the kitchen from the main dining area and it doesn't present any disturbance. How quiet it was, was impressive! Note: This place is not photo-friendly. It is a supper club that caters to an older crowd and tables were there a minimum of 45minutes--it's a classic after all and love in food cannot be rushed! Take into consideration that a 12-top was sat simultaneously during "widows" weekend in the hunting season, and our food came out pretty fast. Food: They have a selection of seafood, steaks and chicken perfect for someone who does not like to venture too far. City residents highly recommended the prime rib, but this options is only available on Saturdays. They have a fresh salad bar and I would recommend selecting an entree that includes it. They have all house-made items on it featuring cottage cheese, potato, pasta cucumber and bean salads; you can enjoy as much as you'd like because it's self serve! I got the liver & onions (I blame nostalgia and was a total skeptic), but it was fantastic and best I've ever had at a restaurant. You get a choice of onion rings or sauteed onions on top and I opted for the onion rings because they are battered fresh and humongous! My friend got the seafood platter and that was all notably cooked to perfection and included: medium-sized scallops, shrimp and fish! Large portions. Beverages: If you are passing through, looking for a Wisconsin favorite: you must get an old fashioned here. Brandy sour is the way to go and they are priced less than $5! If you are a "person of a certain age" Rupp's will remind you of a restaurant you visited with your parents for special family occasions. So, while it indeed looks outdated, it made me feel nostalgic...from our genuinely friendly server Patty, to the soft delicious dinner rolls, to the traditional salad bar, to the generous dinner portions, Rupp's was a true walk down memory lane. So, trendy hipsters are probably spending their money elsewhere, but if they want a good meal, they should make it a point to give Rupp's a try. My rib eye came with the salad bar and soup, so I tried the Mexican dumpling soup, which had a very fresh, peppery tomato flavor and subtle tasty dumplings. The broth had just a slight bit of kick. Ah, an old fashioned salad bar! It had the basics and more..lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrot sticks, several dressings, potato salad, slaw, three-bean salad...it went on and on...and all very fresh. My rib eye was cooked perfectly and I went with American fries as my side. My wife went with a deep-fried walleye, which included two large filets that she thoroughly enjoyed. Old school supper club! Stopped in Sheboygan our way to Door County and asked a local for a Friday fish fry recommendation. This is where we were sent. Some have mentioned the salad bar which was just so-so. But the fish, the astonishing cole slaw (no mayonnaise in sight, how did they do that?), the house-made marble rye, the very affordable pints of Spotted Cow! I'll forgive the iceberg lettuce. If you're from Chicago you'll need to adjust to the pace of table service in smaller cities like Sheboygan. But it's worth it. read more

Looking for a supper club close to our hotel and this was rated well on Yelp. We were there on a Sunday night when there weren't many other customers. The decor and atmosphere is what we expected and wanted in a supper club. The service was great and the food was even better. We had 4 adults and 5 kids and everyone enjoyed their meal. The salad bar is large and very good. I had french fried shrimp which were large and excellent. Others in the family had chicken schnitzel, broiled chicken and ribs which were all delicious. If you're in Sheboygan, I highly recommend a stop into Rupp's as you will not be disappointed!! read more
