There was a buffet of fresh shrimp, crab claws, oysters on the half shell, smoked salmon, deviled eggs with taco seasoning, pastries, baked fritatta, cheesy hashbrowns, French Toast, thick cut bacon, and large plump breakfast sausage. In addition to the buffet, we had the option of made-to-order eggs benedict, omelets, and Prime Rib. We each ordered a benedict, which came as a single serving, and we shared a dish of Prime Rib, which came as two 3-4oz slices. Everything was delicious and well-prepared, and our server was great! First time here. We were staying at the American Club for the weekend, and eating at the Wisconsin Room was a must on our list. Food: The menu offers a nice selection of starters, à la carte options, and full dinners. The ability to add a wide assortment of sides is a great way to customize a meal to fit your tastes. We started with a couple of specialty cocktails, the Whistle Stop Old Fashioned and the Hemingway Daiquiri. Both were nicely made and delicious. We do not normally order bread service, but my wife was famished, so we started with the House Special Duck Fat Parker Rolls. Wow. They were amazing. The crust was dark, crunchy, and full of flavor. They came with honey butter and a bacon jam spread. Next time I might try the Steakhouse Brisket Burger and substitute these rolls for the bun. For our meals, we ordered the Salmon à la carte with a Caesar salad and the Wagyu Short Rib dinner. The salad was nicely made with a light and flavorful dressing and good presentation. The salmon was excellent. It was melt in your mouth tender with a beautiful pan sear, which is a perfect combination. The Wagyu Short Rib was a different experience. This was my first time having this "Denver" cut of short rib. I was expecting a very luxurious, rich texture, but instead it was fairly lean and a bit dry. The outside was nicely charred and had a slightly ashen flavor, which was not unpleasant, just unexpected. On its own, the meat was a disappointment. Paired with the risotto and bordelaise, it improved considerably. Still, it is not something I would likely order again. We took our leftovers home and still had room for dessert, so we shared the Banana Bread Pudding. It was delicious, though the texture was more muffin-like than the dense, creamy style we usually prefer. The rum raisin ice cream was a very nice addition. Service: Like the rest of the service at the American Club, it was very good. The entire evening felt relaxed and well paced. Water and drinks were always attended to, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu and helpful when explaining items. My only small issue was the tone of the service. It was extremely upbeat, almost to the point of feeling a bit scripted or performative. I love enthusiastic and friendly service, but at times it did not feel entirely authentic. This is a minor criticism in what was otherwise a very good experience. Atmosphere: Like the rest of the hotel, the Wisconsin Room is full of character and charm. There is a strong sense of history in the space, especially knowing it was once the cafeteria for early immigrant workers. That adds a humbling and meaningful layer to the experience. We started with the not-so-lazy Susan app- which was a fun array of different things to try. Chicken liver mousse, an onion dip and an orange-fig butter that melted in my mouth. We stayed at the American Club and were able to have both dinner and breakfast at the Wisconsin Room. We were there on a Sunday night and a Monday morning, so there were only a few other tables with other people. It was quiet and very pleasant and the service was wonderful. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu! Dinner was delicious and the butter that was melted over the steak was unreal. The wedge salad and French onion soup were the perfect things to share to start the meal. The half chicken was also very good. The only thing that wasn't our favorite was the 5-year cheddar cauliflower. It unfortunately just was not very cheesy and lacked some flavor. Overall, the meal was delicious! Our server even packed us some treats to take up to our room since we were celebrating getting married! We came in for Sunday brunch, which we used to do all the time pre Covid. This was the first time we were able to come back since it restarted. Brunch prices have skyrocketed from previous years and unfortunately, the buffet was lackluster compared to those years. When we came previously there was a chef making made to order eggs and omlettes, pancakes, waffles, French toast, multiple salads and carved meats and desserts. This buffet was dingy in comparison and cost more. The mimosas were included which was a plus, and they still do made to order eggs but in the kitchen. They were refreshing some food but the salads were a soggy mess that were never replenished. The food was still very good, as was the service, but I miss the more expansive brunch. The down side of the Wisconsin room was their desserts. Pedestrian at best. Service was solid. Food was big resort type. Meat and potatoes. Very tasty lacking sophistication of a great restaurant. The American Club is always beautiful during the holidays, so even after our lackluster experience last year, we were hoping that the Wisconsin Room had improved since then. We noticed that they had changed their menu substantially and we chose not to go for any of the prix fixe special events hoping that the kitchen staff would not be so overwhelmed. Unfortunately, our meal was hit-or-miss with some excellent dishes and some not-so-much. The hits were the Autumn Root and Pear Soup, though it came out lukewarm, the Herb Roasted Chicken, Yellowfin Tuna Loin, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Creamed Spinach and Gnocchi with Lamb Neck Ragu. The soup's flavor and texture were excellent and we would love to have it again one day. The chicken, sweet potatoes and the tuna were cooked perfectly and all came out hot. The spinach had a nice flavor and we would have loved to have more of it. The misses were the Lobster Arrabbiata, which just didn't taste good, the Lobster Mac & Cheese (very bland), the Caramelized Brussel Sprouts (lacked flavor and served cold), the Tagliatelle al Tartuffo (too sweet, more like a dessert with an excess of allspice and little butternut squash flavor) and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes (comes with only one cake for the appetizer and two cakes for the entree for $48). The Mushroom Ragout and 5 Onion Soup were both ok, but not standouts. The manager was very kind and felt bad that our experience was lackluster and offered us some desserts: the classic lemon meringue pie was right on the money and the profiteroles had a delicious creamy fudge sauce. Overall, we were disappointed with the new menu--we really missed the Wisconsin-themed dinners of the past, which paired more local game-and-seafood offerings with appropriate sides, and we were puzzled that they thought that shifting to more-casual, generic steak-and-sides offerings (at fine-dining prices) offered more value or appeal to diners. Also, the execution was lacking for a 5-star resort restaurant. Most importantly, though, for a large dining room in Wisconsin in the winter, they need to match the lovely, warm decor with the ability to serve food items above room temperature--of our 10 hot items, only 4 were actually still hot by the time they reached the table. It's hard to believe that at this price point, they haven't been able to incorporate plate warmers, heat lamps, and/or better order management to address this solvable problem. read more

We love the Wisconsin room! Have visited for just about every meal including their buffet brunch. Service is wonderful and they don't blink an eye at messy children or random requests. Friendly, helpful and no one rushes you at all. Food is delicious and high quality. Most recently we had tuna tartar and Amish chicken. Kids meals included lots of great options including filet! How cute! The buffet is wonderful. Amazing food, fresh and quality and you can go back for your favorites over and over. Great wine list for dinner, but be prepared, it's pricey! Good bottle selections, though! It's a lovely atmosphere - the tables are not crowded but it still feels cozy even with the separation between tables and high ceilings. Our server Elisabeth was excellent. She was very useful with deciding what to order and very personable. The J Henry Old Fashioned was very good with two luxardo cherries! The mushroom app was light but flavorful. It was not warm enough when it came out. The squash soup with a large nut covered crostini was flavorful but had a bit too much ginger. The tuna tartare was very, very fresh however it needed a lot more seasoning, salt and pepper - some acid and a hint if onion would have brightened up the flavor. The tiny lingonberries (?) were a nice touch. The dried piece of brioche was a nice vehicle for the tuna, however a second piece would've been helpful since there was so much tuna! Not sure the creme fraiche was helpful as it was so plain as well - perhaps flavoring that with some shallots or chives would've brought the whole dish together. They were offering U-10 scallops at $10 each so I added two to the appetizer scallop dish it was very delicious with brown butter and some paper thin slices of potato in a few rings of Fresno chilies, although again it could've been a lot warmer. The walleye came out basically room temperature at best. There was a parsnip purée underneath which was very smooth and flavorful. They brought two small bites complementary for my husband's birthday - a Mezcal toasted marshmallow and a raspberry macaron. Both were delicious. The chocolate peanut butter entremet was amazing. It had a nice crispy layer in the center and great balance of chocolate and peanut butter flavors. Pre-Covid, my family booked a Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner in the Wisconsin Room that was the most fabulous dinner we've ever had: lobster corn bisque soup, salmon mousse crackers, smoked salmon, crab deviled eggs, charcuterie board with smoked meats and cheeses, lobster salad crostini, cocktail shrimp, oysters, Caesar salad, scallop linguini, shrimp and noddle stir fry, prime rib, white fish, perch, potatoes, asparagus, mahi mahi, sea bass, couscous, orange and dark chocolate macaroons, lemon meringue, chocolate tiramisu with raspberry drizzle, fig tarte with gold flakes and a pumpkin dessert. Everything was fabulous, lots of options to choose from and there were customizable stations to ensure you got exactly what you wanted! This year, I wanted to recreate that dining experience, and I booked what I was assured was essentially the same thing, just prix fixe for Christmas Eve; however, the menu was not available ahead of time, and I was told that the regular menu was available for the same price. The first two courses were fabulous: the starter was a pumpkin apple soup and the second was sea diver scallops in butternut squash puree. The third course was a steak fillet with carrots and potato pave. The fillet was cooked to order, but the dish itself was a little cold, and the potato pave was inedible - it was so potent of garlic and salt that you couldn't taste potato in the dish at all. The dessert course was a gingerbread cake with what seemed like a cheesecake filling, hard toffee topping in place of frosting and cranberry sorbet. I have no idea what someone was thinking putting those flavors together because they didn't pair well and wasn't executed very well either. The prix fixe was $110 a person, which would be fair, if the meal met the same quality we were expecting from years past. My Dad took a look at the dessert menu from the prix fixe menu and decided that he wasn't interested, so he ordered off the regular menu instead. Main dishes do not come with anything what-so-ever. Side salad, potato, and dessert were all a la carte, which made for quite the expensive dinner, not "the same price" that I was told over the phone; not the end of the world but a $500 bill for 3 people seems a little steep, even for fine dining, when 2 out of the three aren't drinking alcohol. He ordered prime rib eye, which he said was okay - more of a smoked prime rib instead of a rotisserie style, if you're into that. Our waitress was personable and we really quite liked her; it was just the uncomfortably long waits between dishes that was off-putting, but I don't believe it was her fault. I think the kitchen may have just been slow. It did not seem busy, since most of the tables around us were empty, and the tables that were occupied were largely socializing and had finished their full meals substantially earlier. Our dining reservation wasn't even until 8pm so we didn't actually finish our meal until 10-10:30pm. The dining room itself was decorated very festively with trees and lights in the entryway, and the centerpieces were simple but elegant. In the past, there has been live music in the waiting area, and we were disappointed that we missed that this year. There was no one at coat check, so I hung our coats myself, which was fine but again takes away from the experience, when I know there's an attendant. We came to Kohler for a birthday celebration and ate dinner here. The ambience was perfect for a date night - music was fun but relaxing (ie Creep played but was a coffee shop cover). We had excellent service with very friendly and helpful staff. Michelle was our sommelier and she was amazing! My husband and I shared a steak and pork chop that Michelle helped us pair with the perfect bottle of wine. It was one not on the menu but she recommended based on our order. Have eaten here for breakfast the past few days as we are staying at the American Club. But half of the meal is the ambience, and it's a great heritage restaurant. Food was not anything to write home about, except maybe the French toast. Between us, we have tried the omelette with bacon added, the avocado toast, the full breakfast, and the French toast. Wife loved the French toast, her favorite item so fats Omelette was okay, was loaded with onions which can be a pro or a con. The breakfast with eggs and potatoes and sausage was alright, diner quality imo, same for the omelette. They do have fresh squeezed orange juice which is a huge plus from me. I would avoid the smoothies, at least the berry cider, it wasn't what I expected at all, and not very good. read more

Staying at destination kohler and the Wisconsin room is one of the few restaurants open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Made a reservation for dinner which was a quick walk across the parking lot from the carriage house. Service was good with great recommendations. It is a large dining hall and wasn't even close to half full on a Monday night. Free bread is served on the table. We got the lamb chops which were good but lacking a little seasoning/flavor but the cauliflower on the side definitely made up for it with a nice sauce and spice. We also got the house made gnocchi which was really good and has small pieces of shrimp in it. Beautiful restaurant and hotel over all. Would definitely go back. Would recommend making a reservation ahead of time. You can also charge the meal to your room. Dined at Wisconsin Room while staying at Kohler's Spa resort. Apparently, the place to be while at Kohler is The Immigrant restaurant but it books out weeks in advance and The Wisconsin room seemed to be a reasonable alternative. The ambiance was historic (in the best meaning of the word), tasteful and not too fussy. Music was "90th" old fashioned and in my opinion something more classy-jazzy would have fit better. Do yourself a favor and read about the history of the building on the first page of their menu and ask staff for more anecdotes if time traveling while having a meal excites your taste buds as much as it does with mine. They gave me a Wisconsin Room themed tile as a gift in the end of the meal and it felt like a well chosen and thoughtful gift. The waiter was attentive but not in that sugary-fussy way that screams "fake". I wanted a steak Rossini and he recommended a perfect cut for it. The meat itself was cooked to perfection and there is nothing that I would change about it. Foie Gras steak was well prepared and the size of it was average compared to other Rossini's that I have had before. The amount of black truffle shave did not match either the recipe or the 40$ price tag for the "Rossini" add on. I counted and there were precisely 6 thin slices/shaves of black truffle on a large size steak-the amount that gave 0 flavor/aroma enhancement. Truffle shave only works when you are generous with it, so in that regard the dish left more to be desired. Overall, the experience was positive but I would highly recommend ordering a foie gras appetizer for 20 something $ rather than taking a 40$ Rossini add on. I would also skip their Old Fashioned (had too much alcohol in it and chocolate flavor did not fit in. Their wine list is excellent though! read more

I had the lobster gnocchi. The gnocchi was good and there was a generous portion of lobster but it was a little bland. The scallop appetizer was good, cooked well but flavors a little simple. Nothing was wrong but nothing was memorable. They were out of the appetizer and dessert I picked which is a little frustrating but I understand sometimes hard to predict during off season. Did not have the best experience at the Wisconsin room last night. First, we ordered bread, salad and soup for appetizers (none of which required cooking) and it took over an hour for it to be delivered to the table. We also realized there was a little ant problem in our corner of the restaurant - ants on our table and we found one crawling on my husband. Finally, we ordered the sea bass ceviche - which was a major mistake. They used all of the dark fish flesh to make our ceviche and it was awful. So tough and completely lacking flavor. The steak and soup we had were tasty. At the end of the meal we spoke to management about a few of the issues and were shocked when they didn't go anything to compensate. This place is beautiful! It is located inside the American club resort, historic and breathtaking location. Inside the hotel, it smells of aged, leather and wood, with beautiful decor and historic memorabilia to enjoy. The grounds themselves are absolutely gorgeous. Walking inside to the restaurant, we were seated immediately. This is a popular location for golfers, so the entire restaurant was comprised mainly of men who had finished golfing. thus, it did get a little loud at times, but nothing horrible. Our server was so sweet, and very attentive. The actual room of the restaurant is again very beautiful. All the food we ate was absolutely amazing, the half chicken was the best chicken we have ever had. The wall I was amazing, and the steak tartare was equally as delicious. The prime rib (per my hubs) was perfectly seasoned w an amazing run...super tender. Comparable to and in some ways exceeds the Ritz Carlton (ST LOUIS & CHICAGO) spread in terms of consistency in the flavor fulness of each item. Fresh oysters. Lovely canapés. The brûlée the French toast to serve. Salads were good. Desserts were decadent and bite sized perfectness. Nice coffee. Great environment. Casual to spa clothes to dressy. You can where what u want. Which we liked bc we came directly from the spa. Only shortcoming was the omelette. I prefer it French vs American preparation. But for a station it's good. Great price for the package of environment, service & quality of food. We generally get annoyed w buffets bc of the waits, forgettable flavor across dishes (yes even 5 star places), and the empty serving dishes. This place kept everything warm & full seamlessly. Plus the lines were minimal expect for the eggs station which had its peaks. So since eggs are an important part if brunch we couldn't give this place a 5... Were staying at The American Club. Tonight we had a 6:15 reservation for Thanksgiving dinner. 7 pm we were seated. After a while of settling in, we order drinks. I should have known we were in trouble when my cashmere hammer stout did not come with a glass! The initial courses took awhile. We got our soup, which was pretty good. Then our kale salad sat in front of us for ages. I refused to eat it without a proper plate. Wait and wait. Need more water, wait some more. Our mains came, turkey with all the accoutrements, green beans and more potatoes. Even salmon. That was all good. But the empty plates just say there. And our waitress told us there was a short rib course with risotto. Sure, bring it. 40 minutes we waited. Finally some of my party went back to their rooms. I was ready to leave myself. But others wanted the remaining food. Yet, there were still dirty plates on our table. Even when the next course cane out. This is unbelievable. It's like we're getting punked. I had the parsnip soup which was the seasonal vegetable soup. It was interesting. I didn't not like it but not sure what to make of it. It had apples and celery in it and was almost sweet. More of a purée than a soup. For dinner I had the maple chicken which was very juicy and delicious. We ended the evening with the chocolate torte and the cranberry apple dessert. Both were very good. Not what I expected from a 5 Diamond resort. The service was bad and the food was not good. My wife had the risotto which was more like porridge with mushy shrimp. In fact, stay away from the shrimp everywhere in this hotel. The shrimp cocktail was rubbery and the shrimp hors d'oeuvres we had at our banquet where disgusting. I had the lamb, which did not have enough sauce to over come the fact that it was tough and dry. If you can't get a reservation at the Immigrant Restaurant, do yourself a favor and leave the hotel. My wife and I spent 4 days at the Carriage House at the American Club for our 40th anniversary. We made the mistake and choose The Wisconsin Room for dinner Everything started out great drinks were good. The chicken soup I order was very good the Carrot soup my wife border tasted funky; not good. Then our entries arrived, I had the Char it was very good, my wife had Salmon and it was served cold. We told our server and she was great, however I finished my dinner and 15 minutes later my wife's Salmon arrived. You all know how this feels, she watched me eat, them I watched her; super bad Karma. Just finished breakfast before a much anticipated day of golf. We were seated along with 5-6 other tables of adults having quiet conversation - it was perfect. Until they seated a woman with two loud, whiney children right in the middle of all of the tables who were enjoying quiet conversation. The mom had no control over the children - it was excruciating. The looks being shared from table to table from angry customers wishing they could enjoy a peaceful breakfast - or open a vein with their butter knife. I respect a parent's right to enjoy breakfast with their children. And bad parenting is not the restaurant's fault. But to knowingly seat them in the middle of an adult section when the far end of the restaurant is wide open clearly sends a message that management could care less about the experience of their customers. And the food was just ok - nothing special. We will not go back choosing to dine off property for the remainder of our stay. And I can assure you there were many in the restaurant that left with the same feelings. I expected far better from The American Club - huge disappointment. read more

You've got to be kidding me. The food tastes very good, but the portion sizes are a joke, like the TV ad on mini food. My table of four had two tuna appetizers, and I had the lamb chop entree with two extra sides and dessert. Over $100 in cost for my food alone. The lamb chops were the size of a two bite appetizer, with essentially nothing else on the plate,and the appetizers themselves were so thin as to be practically transparent. All told it added up to about one-third of a normal sized meal. I get fine dining, but from a value standpoint I'd score this less than one star if I could. Rip off. read more

A beautiful room that screams sophistication. Take the time to look around and appreciate the ambiance, especially for dinner. Expect smaller plates and a higher price tag, but that was always our expectation. The service, wine, and food were all fantastic. It should be an experience. read more

The canapes were all fun and delicious, though the ones on crackers may have been sitting out a while, as the crackers seemed a bit stale. Still, with the variety of all the choices, and complexity of each one, they were fantastically delicious. The omelet was made well and of course to order, but dragging that down was the sadness that was the cold roast beef, despite being under a heat lamp and carved when asked! The Caesar salad was quite good and the Crème fraiche horse radish was rather. Of note also was the french toast, which was divine in it's sweetness, and not over the top in serving size. The champagne flowed, as did the coffee, and the waitress, while quite busy, was nothing short of professional, nice, and spot on. Twas a treat as I rarely go to brunch anymore:) read more

We've had breakfast here twice...I tried the buffet the first day and ordered off the menu the second day. I suggest ordering off the menu! The omelet on the buffet is tiny (seriously) and the toast selection is just okay. The crustless quiche was really good. Everything else was just okay. The omelet off the menu, delicious! And I got an English muffin, not a choice on the buffet. Cappuccino is okay, the one in the stain glass window cafe is so much better. read more
